The diameter of the earth at the Equator is approximately
21,600 Nautical miles. There are 360 degrees in a circle and each one of those degrees is divided into 60 minutes. 360 x 60 = 21,600. The length of a Nautical mile is the "arc length subtended by an angle of 1 minute measured at the equator".
Of course that is somewhat theoretical. I don't think anyone has actually measured it!
CHAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7566715115931065803.post-3557260839811954042015-07-29T10:57:25.389-04:002015-07-29T10:57:25.389-04:00Interesting and thanks for the info.Interesting and thanks for the info.Brock Townsendhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11404173139501539265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7566715115931065803.post-27164020014849508032015-07-29T10:35:00.587-04:002015-07-29T10:35:00.587-04:00:) They use it in Vietnam also.:) They use it in Vietnam also.Brock Townsendhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11404173139501539265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7566715115931065803.post-47968191921100101122015-07-29T08:21:06.917-04:002015-07-29T08:21:06.917-04:001/1000th of a mile is 5.28 feet, pace off 100 feet...1/1000th of a mile is 5.28 feet, pace off 100 feet and divide it by the number of steps you take, it will be roughly half that. The Romans were quite a bit shorter than modern humans, no way they marched with a 5.28 foot stride.
