Real estate mogul Donald Trump thinks the governor of Hawaii should be "investigated" for saying he remembers when President Obama was born.
Speaking on "Fox and Friends" Monday, Trump said that Gov. Neil Abercrombie (D) was just trying to help fellow Democrats defend accusations that Obama was born outside the United States and therefore is ineligible to be president.
“I think this guy should be investigated," Trump said. "He remembers when Obama was born, give me a break. He is just trying to do something for his party.”
Trump, who has been mulling running for president in 2012, has been voicing skepticism that Obama was born in the U.S. In an interview on ABC's "The View" Trump demanded to see Obama's birth certificate.
"Why doesn't he show his birth certificate?" Trump asked. "I wish he would, because I think it's a terrible pale that's hanging over him."
Trump's repeated statements about Obama's birth certificate are in line with claims by so-called "birthers" movement that Obama is not an American citizen.
Abercrombie, a former Democratic congressman, has been a staunch opponent of this claim. The Hawaii governor has said in past interviews that he remembers Obama when he was a baby in Hawaii and remembers seeing him at social functions. Additionally, Abercrombie says he knew Obama's parents.
During his presidential campaign, Obama released his birth certificate to the public to satisfy the birthers.
I real hope one of these retreads and blowhards runs for president, not because they have a chance of winning but because I like to see the train wreck that they will cause.
