RAPE OF GERMAN WOMEN: After Germany lost the Second World War
These mass rapes were one of the greatest crimes against women throughout history. Rapists were mainly Red Army soldiers, many of them - non-white soldiers from the Asian republics of the Soviet Union.. However, unfortunately, it must be said that many rapists, were American soldiers. They certainly behaved like animals, but they had official sanction. The European women of those nations that had been allies of Nazi Germany were targeted too.
Millions of women victims raped by Russian soldiers during the last months of World War II. Anthony Beevor's book "Berlin -- The Downfall 1945" documents rape by Russian soldiers. "Beevor's conclusions are that in response to the vast scale of casualties inflicted on them by the Germans the Soviets responded in kind, and that included rape on a vast scale. It started as soon as the Red Army entered East Prussia and Silesia in 1944, and in many towns and villages every female aged from 10 to 80 was raped." The author "was 'shaken to the core' to discover that even their own Russian and Polish women and girls liberated from German concentration camps were also violated." Until recent years, East German women from the World War II era referred to the Red Army war memorial in Berlin as "the Tomb of the Unknown Rapist."

ReplyDeleteIn his autobiography, "SERGEANT NIBLEY, PH.D.," (2006, Shadow Mountain Publishing), edited by Alex Nibley, Professor Hugh Nibley of Brigham Young University, now deceased, tells of paratroopers in the 101st Airborne Division who, during the D-Day invasion, while being welcomed by rejoicing French citizens, stormed into a wedding at a Catholic church, murdered the groom, and then forcibly gang raped the bride, as the horrified guests watched.
He tells some other shocking horror stories, too, such as the reason all those gliders crashed during the invasion was because of G.I. mechanics in England who got drunk and deliberately sabotaged the gliders, jealous that they weren't being allowed to go into France.
He also wrote that the many, if not most, American soldiers would not fire their weapons directly at an enemy, because the idea of killing a fellow human being was so repugnant, that afterwards, a soldier (even decorated commissioned officers!) would often commit suicide.
Prior to the Second World War, Hugh Nibley served in Switzerland as a full time missionary for The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints, and then earned his doctorate in ancient languages and Egyptology.
During the war, as a draftee in the United States Army, he refused a commission, serving as a military intelligence analyst in the 101st Airborne Division, going ashore on D-Day, and serving as an interpretor interrogating German Prisoners of War during the Battle of the Bulge.
Thank you.

Yes, maybe not.

ReplyDeleteI do not understand what you are talking about here but I would appreciate if you would delete it. It seems to refer to something regarding my fathers service,
which, it does not and I did not say this. At least remove my name from it.
The top one referred to John's comment and the bottom one to yours.

Hugh Nibley memoirs are not to be trusted as honest or accurate. I personally interviewed him in SALT LAKE TRIBUNE in May of 1994 for a special 50th D-Day anniversary special edition. It was my task to interview D-Day combat vets across the state of Utah. The 18 interviews that I wrote and were published included fighter pilots, landing craft commanders, infantrymen, tanker crew, engineers, and paratroopers. During my research leading up to the special edition, I arranged an interview with Nibley in his home in SLC. In the interview, Nibley told me directly, serving as an interpreter in HQ Company for entire 101st AB Division, he had not arrived on the beachhead until D-Day plus 30 (July 1944). As the interview continued and I pressed him about his personal first hand accounts of where exactly was he on D-Day proper? He recounted that he was with Division HQ Company on a transport ship floating out in the English Channel. And that the whole of his HQ company didn't embark ashore until weeks into the Normandy campaign. He then became upset with me. He told me he was under the impression that the interview was supposed to be about his whole life and memoirs. I apologized to him about the confusion. He ushered me out the door my having been there only about 25 minutes. To put this in perspective, I did indeed interview another 101st paratrooper in a line company (and French interpreter) who made the combat drop during the night of June 5, 1944. When I interviewed this other paratrooper, I happened to mention my encounter with Nibley. He became very angry telling me that the 101st vets he and other ww2 101st AB were enraged at Nibley and his disgusting lies. He told me that although he never met Nibley personally, his horrible slander against frontline combat troops was incomprehensible. In particular, he said the lies about 101st paratroopers murdering a civilian groom and raping the bride could only come from a sick mind.
ReplyDeleteKnowing this, I also believe that Nibley's other absurd written claims about the behavior of combat soldiers all to be giant lies.
Thanks and I believe the vast majority were by Russians:
