Students and parents in Forth Worth, TX are outraged after the school district declared that Christmas celebrations – including visits from Santa Claus would no longer be allowed during the school day.
The Fort Worth Independent School District also banned students exchanging Christmas gifts after they determined that public schools could no longer “endorse or sponsor any religious activity or doctrine.”
A spokesman for the school district told Fox News & Commentary that “in an effort to be politically correct” teachers are not allowed to “post something that would foster or promote or impugn one doctrine or religion over another – or even give that impression.”
Seasonal decorations are still allowed but they have to comply with the district’s ban on decorations that are “religious in nature.” In other words, don’t expect to see a Nativity Scene on school grounds.

Fort Worth school district bans Christmas
Via The Dorkfish Express
As you can tell, this makes my blood boil.
ReplyDeletePisses me off to no end.
ReplyDeleteIt will all be over soon enough, now...
ReplyDeleteSeveral years ago, our local district pulled this sort of thing too. No "Christmas Carols" at the Elem. or middle-school "Holiday Concert", for example.
BUT...
They had the Kindergarteners all decked out in "Kwanzaa" outfits!
Then there was the middle-school version a couple of years later. Again - no "Christmas" music allowed, but not only were we treated to "Dreidel-Dreidel-Dreidel" but were actually forced to sit through a ~20-minute "Hanukkah" dissertation by the only two (2!) Jewish students (Bro./Sis.)in the whole school.
Naturally, those of us who complained later were back-handedly accused of "anti-semitism" to boot...
I'm still reminded - every time I think of this - of Orwell's old saw about some animals being "more equal than others"...
I have no problem with Chanukah components being included, but I must admit that "Kwanzaa" -- as it was invented in the 1960's by a murderous gang-member while he was in PRISON -- is IMHO not worthy of even consideration... but I digress...
To me there's NO JUSTIFIABLE REASON why the majority should be denied the traditions that have served us for CENTURIES. If the Constitution somehow prohibited such you'd think we would have discovered this at least 200 years earlier - no?!
As to the "rights of Atheists", to me it's real simple: They can just SKIP THE CONCERT! or, if they REALLY want their kids to participate they can either (1) sing along for the fun of it or (2) just not sing the "religious" songs!
I knew things were headed to hell in a handbasket, even here in the boonies, when they banned the santa visit because there was ONE (!1!) "jehova's witness" kid in the school.
Talk about "tyranny of the minority" -- 1/10th of 1% objects so ALL THE KIDS get screwed?!
Gah!
1/10th of 1% objects so ALL THE KIDS get screwed?!
ReplyDeleteUseful idiots.
