$PLC Busted Again

I am writing in response to the New Yorker essay of February 17, in which you reported that the Southern Poverty Law Center has designated the Federation for American Immigration Reform and the Center for Immigration Studies as "hate groups." You offered no elaboration, no explanation. You provided no opportunity for response. I write now in defense of the Center for Immigration Studies, where I am a research fellow. I will let FAIR speak for itself.

The hate group smear is a cheap attempt at character assassination. Your reckless recitation of it in a prestigious magazine is journalistically unethical. Before you drew your readers' attention to the smear, it had been ignored in the world of reputable journalism. Reporters and editors must have recognized that printing it would make them complicit in the SPLC's dirty work. You may be proud that you assisted the SPLC's effort to denigrate CIS. I think the SPLC, who excesses are so blindly accepted by so many liberals, has induced you to debase the New Yorker.

The purpose of the SPLC attack on the Center for Immigration Studies is to delegitimize a widely respected organization that has become an important voice of dissent from the Manhattan consensus on immigration. That consensus defends the proposition that immigration – regardless of its legality, intensity, or effects on the lives of working-class Americans – is an undiluted good, questioned only by the narrow of mind and hateful of heart.

Explaining Trump to the Brits

Of the four Christmas cards I received from the UK this past December, three of them had the same request:  explain the Trump phenomenon.

This is my reply:

America has had a bloodless revolution.  It remains to be seen what will really happen once the New People take over Washington.  No doubt much can (and maybe will) go wrong, but Trump, while a gaudy character, is an “instinctive Patriot.” We have been marching relentlessly toward a modern socialist state. At least we can hope for better times.

The first thing to remember is that America has not been governed by either President or Congress in the   traditional manner for at least a generation. It simply costs too much to run.  Millions and millions of dollars. And who has that kind of money to spare—except for the REALLY rich, who live in a world of their own. Their home is everywhere (they can make more money) and while handing over their money to many, they make sure they get their money’s worth.  Hence their insistence on “open borders,’ “free trade,” in short all the tenets of the One World Order. Many who donate their money are not citizens, but it certainly doesn’t keep them from meddling in U.S. affairs.  For instance, take George Soros (please).  Remember he was the man who almost broke the Bank of England a few years ago.  So it is not surprising that the only “successful” candidates for high office are the ones who feel comfortable keeping Congress from passing any laws their benefactors oppose. After all, they will soon be running for office again. And in the near future.

In Search of the Real Abe Lincoln

 https://i.ytimg.com/vi/LQoEFx593nU/hqdefault.jpg

No one interested in American history can escape Abraham Lincoln. Over the years the outpouring of books, articles, essays, and poems has been enormous, so much so that this form of activity is sometimes referred to as “the Lincoln industry.” With all of this attention devoted to one man, how can there be a “Lincoln puzzle”? Surely all Americans know him — walking for miles to borrow (or return) books, reading by firelight, splitting fence rails, wrestling with the boys (always winning) — this simple, rugged, honest son of the frontier, a man of the people, called by them to save the Union and free the slaves, presiding with melancholy anguish over a long and bloody war, comforting Mrs. Bixby for the loss of her sons. Is this not what they see when they go to the Lincoln Memorial and look up at that brooding giant whose somber gaze seems to penetrate the very meaning of life? Where is the puzzle?

Hey! Hey! Hey! :) NC constitution’s ban on secession could be dropped under House bill

Rep. Michael Speciale (Rep) speaks as the N.C. House debates in 2014.

A bill filed Tuesday by a trio of N.C. House Republicans seeks to drop a provision in the state constitution that prohibits secession.

Reps. Michael Speciale of New Bern, George Cleveland of Jacksonville and Larry Pittman of Concord are proposing a constitutional amendment that would give voters a chance to repeal Article I, Section 4 of the North Carolina constitution.

Here’s what that section says: “This State shall ever remain a member of the American Union; the people thereof are part of the American nation; there is no right on the part of this State to secede; and all attempts, from whatever source or upon whatever pretext, to dissolve this Union or to sever this Nation, shall be resisted with the whole power of the State.”

Voters would decide on the amendment in the November 2018 election.

Supremes to Decide if Foreigners Have Constitutional Rights

The Supreme Court on Tuesday is taking up a case that presents a critical question of law: Can a U.S. law enforcement officer be sued in American courts for the death of a foreigner outside the United States?

For most of American history, the answer to that question has been a clear and emphatic “no.” Courts for two centuries have held that constitutional rights do not apply to foreigners with no voluntary connection to the United States.
“That has been under a lot of pressure and challenge recently.”
That the high court even agreed to take Hernández v. Mesa casts doubt on that long-held understanding of the law, however.

‘Trump Bump’ for Dow Industrials Is Biggest Post-Inaugural Move Since FDR

Via Billy

President Donald Trump has been doing a lot of bragging about the stock market rally lately.

How does it measure up?

By some measures, the rally that took place during Mr. Trump’s first 30 calendar days in office has been the largest for any president’s first month on the job since 1945. Since inauguration day on Jan. 20 through Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed more than 4%.

That’s the biggest gain over the first 30 days of a presidency since Franklin Delano Roosevelt was inaugurated for is final term 72 years ago, according to WSJ Market Data Group. During that period, the Dow rallied 4.1% to 159.01 points.

Iran tells U.S. chess champion to wear a hijab – here’s how she responds

Nazi Paikidze is the reigning U.S. chess champion, but when the Iranian government told her she had to wear a hijab, the Muslim head veil, and restrict contact with men in order to compete in the world competition hosted by Iran this year, she refused. The “morality laws” were supported by FIDE, the international organization that coordinates the world chess championship event.

The Offer that Turns the Gaza Strip into Singapore

Via David

https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/pics/2318.jpg
  •  Last week, Hamas received an offer that no sane entity would turn down. The offer did not come from Hamas's allies in Iran and the Islamic world. The offer, to turn the impoverished Gaza Strip into "the Singapore of the Middle East," came from Israel.
  • "The Gazans must understand that Israel, which withdrew from the Gaza Strip to the last millimeter, is not the source of their suffering -- it is the Hamas leadership, which doesn't take their needs into consideration... The moment Hamas gives up its tunnels and rockets, we'll be the first to invest." — Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman.
  • Hamas does not want a new "Singapore" in the Middle East. Hamas wants Israel to disappear from the face of the earth. The welfare of the Palestinians living under its rule is the last thing on the mind of Hamas. The dispute is not about improving the living conditions of Palestinians, as far as Hamas is concerned. Instead, it is about the very existence of Israel.
  • Hamas deserves credit for one thing: its honesty concerning its intentions to destroy Israel and kill as many Jews as possible. Hamas does not want 40,000 new jobs for the unemployed poor Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. It would rather see these unemployed Palestinians join its ranks and become soldiers in the jihad to replace Israel with an Islamic empire.

Harvard–Harris Poll 80% of Americans oppose sanctuary cities

An overwhelming majority of Americans believe that cities that arrest illegal immigrants for crimes should be required to turn them over to federal authorities.

The poll shows that President Trump has broad public support in his effort to crack down on sanctuary cities.

A survey from Harvard–Harris Poll provided exclusively to The Hill found that 80 percent of voters say local authorities should have to comply with the law by reporting to federal agents the illegal immigrants they come into contact with.

A Louisiana woman was honored over the weekend for springing to a police officer’s defense during a traffic-stop attack.

Vickie Williams-Tillman, 56, was listening to gospel music in her car Sunday when she noticed an officer struggling with a suspect. She immediately used the patrol car’s radio to call for backup along Airline Highway before jumping on the suspect’s back. The individual had already wrestled away the officer’s baton and hit him in the head when she pounced.

White House says transgender students are a states’ rights issue

The White House said Tuesday that President Trump views school districts’ bathroom policies for transgender students as a “states’ rights” issue in response to reports that the president will reverse the Obama administration’s rule on such policies.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer didn’t specifically discuss details of a pending action but said guidance will be coming from the Justice Department and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

“That’s an issue that the Department of Justice and the Department of Education are addressing,” Mr. Spicer said at his press briefing. “I think there will be further guidance coming from DOJ in particular with respect to not just the executive order, but also the case that’s in front of the Supreme Court.

South Korean M1s And M1 Carbines Becoming Available?

Via 4Branch

 My favorite weapon.

SOFREP:

One way to look at a 60-year-old, battle-worn M1 U.S. service rifle is as a cherished historical relic unfit for any duty more rigorous than color guard. Another way is as a military-grade firearm likely to be snatched up by street toughs and used for common crime. Over the past six years, the Obama administration has seen the gun both ways, leading to a saga that has incensed legislators and gun collectors alike.
Helpfully for the executive branch, Republican Rep. Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming filed the “Collectible Firearms Protection Act.” While Lummis’s bill sounds wide-ranging, it actually targets a strange and singular quandary that’s given the State Department fits since 2009: What to do with almost a million vintage, American-made M1 Garand and Carbine rifles now moldering in the arsenals of their custodian, South Korea.

“Legislation shouldn’t even be needed for U.S. citizens to purchase perfectly legal and regulated firearms, especially in this case, with storied, American-made rifles that are pieces of U.S. military history,” Rep. Lummis said in a statement. In fact, legislation wouldn’t be necessary if President Obama were okay with the purchase, which in this case, his administration was in favor of. Until it wasn’t.

Trump Intelligence Community Split

My take is:  Just more fake news, but based on some underlying truths.

I am writing this because I had this same conversation with someone this weekend as well as seeing it several places on the nets.  Just a few minutes ago, I read this at Free North Carolina’s place.

I don’t believe the basic premise of the base article, the the CIA is anti-Trump or Anti-America.

Mostly because it is an anonymous source.  In this day of Fake news, Named sources get credibility.

Anonymous sources should be treated as creative writing assignments.

Q. It seems the intel community has it in for Trump – is this your feeling?
