Gov Kristi Noem Says If You Don’t Like Vaccination Mandates, Just Quit Your Job

 Via sw44magnumman

Governor Kristi Noem is at her political core Wall Street (Koch Brothers etc.).  Meanwhile, President Trump is at his political core Main Street.

It’s always there, right below the conservative veneer; and if you wait, it surfaces.  This tweet highlights the difference between ‘conservative’ corporatism (traditional GOP class), and MAGA pragmatism (the blue collar dynamic).

The disconnect is found in the difference between what looks like a good ‘talking point’, and the reality of workers having to deal with the issue of mandated vaccinations in the workplace.  Just quit your job… not so easy in practice.

For What Will We Go to War With China?

For What Will We Go to War With China?

Why are we threatening this? Is who controls Mischief Reef or Scarborough Shoal a matter of such vital U.S. interest as to justify war between us and China?

In his final state of the nation speech Monday, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte defended his refusal to confront China over Beijing’s seizure and fortification of his country’s islets in the South China Sea.

“It will be a massacre if I go and fight a war now,” said Duterte. “We are not yet a competent and able enemy of the other side.”

The Wild Man (Touching)

My First Car

At the top of the hill where my great-grandparents lived, there was a dusty, black and white picture on a shelf. It could’ve been my grandpa or great-uncle, but it didn’t look quite like them. It was a dapper dressed young man leaning over the fender of a ’59 Ford car, posing. I never asked about this picture but it was kept in a back bedroom, somewhat out of sight from my great-grandmother, who I have no doubt spent many hours gazing at it, wondering how life could have been different.

My great-grandparents were married on December 20, 1936, in Vendor, Arkansas. They were to have five children: Stanley, Dennis, Glen, Shelia and Joyce. Stanley Wayne was the first born on September 29, 1937. He was a tall, lanky and somewhat scrawny kid. His family affectionately nicknamed him ‘Tom’, but around his ‘running buddies’ he was to get some more appropriate nicknames.

Due to his high pitched voice, some called him ‘Squeaky’, but the one that stuck was ‘Wild Man.’

Daniel Webster on the Expansion of Slavery

Daniel Webster was one of the most notable Northern statesmen of his day. He was an American lawyer who represented New Hampshire and Massachusetts in the U.S. Congress.  His list of accomplishments is impressive:  Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Massachusetts’s 1st district; Chair of the House Judiciary Committee; United States Senator from Massachusetts; Chair of the Senate Finance Committee.

He was no friend of the South, but on March 7, 1850, Webster gave a speech in the Senate which many say cost him his Senate seat. It appears he was too honest for his fellow Northern politicians who sought to consolidate the Northern vote by playing upon the racist fears of Northerners. Their strategy was to claim that the South intended on expanding slavery into the territories and all over the US. Lincoln used this same fabrication to resurrect a political career on life support.  This fabrication horrified Northerners who did not want to live or compete with blacks. It was a fabrication these politicians hoped would coalesce and sectionalize Northern voters against the South for the purpose of political control and economic exploitation of the country.

Poll: Nearly Half Of Republicans Think ‘Patriotic Americans’ Will One Day ‘Have To Take The Law Into Their Own Hands’

UNITED STATES - DECEMBER 8: An American flag hangs upside down in the wind outside Union Station in Washington on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020.

More than half of Republicans support the potential use of force to preserve traditional American values and nearly half believe a time will come when “patriotic Americans” will have to take the law into their own hands, according to the results of a George Washington University poll released this week.

The GW Politics Poll, which surveyed more than 1,700 registered voters from June 4 to June 23, also found that Republican trust in the integrity of U.S. elections has plummeted since the 2020 election.

Repost 2009: An Archbishop's Memories Of Vietnam+

Sent to me after he had read

Vietnam Babylift, My Story

 Dear Brock;

I remember the horrific crash of the C5A flight and the whole “Baby Lift”.
I still remember how my heart broke for all those infants and adults who
lost their lives that day.

The following is the story of my adopting my sons.

I had graduated from high school in 1964 and made several attempts to join
the navy, hoping to become a corpsman. After the third rejection (I was 30
pounds underweight most of my life) I entered an Orthodox Catholic
monastery that was located in Florida, in 1965.

In 1969, the entire monastic group (8 monks) went to Southeast Asia
(Vietnam and Laos) during the Vietnam War doing missionary work, helping
orphans and refugees. I spent most of my time there in Cu Chi and Saigon.
While there, I got to meet and become friends with the Roman Catholic
Archbishop Ngo- Dinh Thuc, the brother of the former South Vietnamese
President Diem Ngo.

Upon returning to the United States in May of 1973 (two years before the
fatal C5A crash) the monastic community settled in Utica, New York where I
continued with my studies for the priesthood, which included studying
Hymnology, Christology, Theology, Iconography and Pastoral Counseling and
learning liturgical Slavonic, Greek and Arabic.

Since Orthodox priests are allowed to marry before they are ordained to
the deaconate, I left the monastery in 1978, to marry, continuing my
studies on weekends and during two weeks every summer. In 1979, my wife
and I adopted two boys from Vietnam. The oldest one Tung, was eleven years
old at the time. He was half Vietnamese, fathered by an American who
abandoned him and his mother. His mother was killed in an attack by the
North Vietnamese when Tung was eight. The second boy, Tan was nine years
old (He is the one in the picture at the zoo on my blog). He is from the
ethnic group known as Montagnards (Mountain people). In 1981, we adopted a
third boy from Laos, Lo who was eight.

I was finally ordained a deacon in 1982 and was assigned to assist a
priest in the western New York area, and it was at this time that I began
to get involved with the Southeast Asian refugee community that had
settled in the Erie and Monroe county area. In 1983, I was called back to
Utica by my bishop to be ordained a priest, after which I was sent back to
western New York to set up a congregation among the Vietnamese, Lao and
Cambodian refugees in the Western New York area. In 1984 we adopted our
fourth and last child, a boy Hai, from Vietnam. Hai was four years old
then.

Unfortunately, unknown to me at the time of our marriage, my wife was
addicted to drugs and alcohol. I only became aware of it late in 1985 when
her addictions became much worse. After several failed suicide attempts
and several failed attempts to get her help at rehabilitation, I was
granted a Church annulment by my bishop, with the understanding that I
remain celibate if I wished to remain in the priesthood. Both the
annulment and a civil divorce were granted in 1987. I was granted full and
sole custody of the boys, by the court. I continued with my ministry as I
raised my sons alone. Today they are all grown with families of their own
and I have 8 grandchildren.

On November 1, 2008, I was consecrated a bishop of the American Orthodox
Catholic Church in Syracuse, New York and elevated to Archbishop in
January, 2009

To this day, I prefer mainly Vietnamese foods.

The Giant Killer: American Hero

May be an image of 1 person and outdoors

American Hero!

Patrick Gavin Tadina is pictured here in an undated photo wearing North Vietnamese Army fatigues and carrying an AK-47. A 30-year Army veteran who was the longest continuously serving Ranger in Vietnam and one of the war's most decorated enlisted soldier.

Patrick Gavin Tadina served in Vietnam for over five years straight between 1965 and 1970, leading long range reconnaissance patrols deep into enemy territory -- often dressed in black pajamas and sandals, and carrying an AK-47.

A native of Hawaii, Tadina earned two Silver Stars, 10 Bronze Stars -- seven with valor -- three Vietnamese Crosses of Gallantry, four Army Commendation Medals, including two for valor, and three Purple Hearts.

His small stature and dark complexion helped him pass for a Viet Cong soldier on patrols deep into the Central Highlands, during which he preferred to be in the point position. His citations describe him walking to within feet of enemies he knew to be lying in wait for him and leading a pursuing enemy patrol into an ambush set by his team.

In Vietnam he served with the 173rd Airborne Brigade Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol, 74th Infantry Detachment Long Range Patrol and Company N (Ranger), 75th Infantry.

Tadina joined the Army in 1962 and served in the Dominican Republic before going to Southeast Asia. He also served with the 82nd Airborne Division in Grenada during Operation Urgent Fury in 1983 and with the 1st Infantry Division during Operation Desert Storm in 1991.

A 1995 inductee into the Ranger Hall of Fame, he served with "extreme valor," never losing a man during his years as a team leader in Vietnam, a hall of fame profile at Fort Benning said.

Some 200 men had served under him without "so much as a scratch," said a newspaper clipping his daughter shared, published while Tadina was serving at Landing Zone English in Vietnam's Binh Dinh province, likely in 1969.

Tadina himself was shot three times and his only brother was also killed in combat in Vietnam, Stars and Stripes later reported.

The last time he was shot was during an enemy ambush in which he earned his second Silver Star, and the wounds nearly forced him to be evacuated from the country, the LZ English story said.

As the point man, Tadina was already inside the kill zone when he sensed something was wrong, but the enemy did not fire on him, apparently confused about who he was, the article stated. After spotting the enemy, Tadina opened fire and called out the ambush to his teammates before falling to the ground and being shot in both calves.

He refused medical aid and continued to command until the enemy retreated, stated another clipping, quoting from his Silver Star citation.

"When you're out there in the deep stuff, there's an unspoken understanding," he told Tate in 1985. "It's caring about troops."

After retiring from the Army in 1992, he continued working security jobs until 2013, Poeschl said, including stints in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

What’s in a Word

In many ways, “Woke-ism” behaves as if it were religion with its own dogma for behavior and a defined morality.  Like many religions in the world, believers accept their truth as an absolute that cannot be questioned.  The Church of “Woke-ism” has its zealots, like the Pharisees, that self-righteously condemn those that fall short of being Woke enough. Unlike every major religion in the world, however, “Woke-ism” has no pathway for forgiveness, redemption or second chances.  Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, Islam, and Christianity all provide this most important pathway for their adherents

Spoken and written languages consist of words that have similar meaning among the general population.  Local accents and regional idioms aside, most inhabitants of our county can write and speak in “American English” and comprehend the essence of the conversation.  The English language is a more recent addition to the human linguistic system.  Many English words are derived from older languages, and those words share a common word root and similar meaning.  The origin and root of each word, therefore, establishes the meaning of the words and expressions we use in every day communication.

Second Eye-Witness Steps Forward — CONFIRMS Capitol Hill Police Killed Trump Supporter Rosanne Boyland Then Attacked Those Who Tried to Save Her (VIDEO)

 Via Billy

Earlier this month Trump supporter and activist Philip Anderson confirmed to The Gateway Pundit that Capitol Police killed Trump supporter Rosanne Boyland on January 6.

Philip knows this because he was next to her when she died.  He was holding her hand.  And Philip nearly died himself.

Activist Philip Anderson spoke with The Gateway Pundit about the Jan. 6 protests at the US Capitol and how the Capitol police murdered Rosanne Boyland and nearly took his life too.

This was an amazing eyewitness report that has been ignored by the fake news media because it does not fit their narrative.  A black Trump supporter was gassed with clouds of pepper spray, pushed down, and then nearly trampled to death as police officers continued to push people on top of a pile outside the US Capitol.

Bar Owner Killed Himself After Fatally Shooting Rioter; Now His Family Is Suing Prosecutor Who Branded Him Racist

TOPSHOT - A protester reacts standing in front of a burning building set on fire during a demonstration in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on May 29, 2020, over the death of George Floyd, a black man who died after a white policeman kneeled on his neck for several minutes. - Violent protests erupted across the United States late on May 29 over the death of a handcuffed black man in police custody, with murder charges laid against the arresting Minneapolis officer failing to quell seething anger.

Parents of U.S. Marine Corps veteran and Omaha bar owner Jake Gardner have filed a lawsuit against a Douglas County attorney and the special prosecutor who branded their son racist before Gardner committed suicide.

Gardner fatally shot an anti-police rioter, 22-year-old James Scurlock, during a struggle outside of his bar last May.

Gardner was initially cleared of all charges after it was determined that he acted in self-defense. However, following unrest largely because of the races of Scurlock, who is black, and Gardner, who is white, the DA appointed special prosecutor Fred Franklin and a grand jury, hoping “it would restore public faith in the justice system,” NPR reported.

Report, CDC Expected To Announce Tomorrow That COVID Vaccines Don’t Work on Delta Variant – Hence, White House Credits Trump With Vaccine Today

 Via sw44magnumman

The White House would never credit Donald Trump with the vaccine rollout unless there was something negative about the vaccine that is going to hit the newswires; that is  a no-brainer.

That baseline is why CTH said two months ago to watch for the moment when the White House credits Trump with the vaccine because that’s the moment when: (1) the vaccine was going to be identified as dangerous; and/or (2) reports would show the vaccine did not work.

Today the White House credited President Trump with the vaccine:

Battle of Xuan Loc

Airborne soldiers protecting refugees waiting to be evacuated, Xuan Loc, 1975.

During this month in 1975 the last major battle in the twenty year long struggle of the Republic of Vietnam was taking place. Much about the battle has been written and discussed by veterans, historians, news commentators, students, and authors of all kinds in the subsequent four decades. In this posting, RVNHS would like to ask you to take a moment to reflect upon the battle not as an abstract historical event, but as the fierce physical and psychological ordeal for the servicemen and women as well as the countless civilians of the Republic of Vietnam who were caught up in the intensity of those April weeks forty (six) years ago.

Tank crew heading into Xuan Loc, 1975. Note the flags painted on the helmets of two of the crewmen - a show of loyalty and determination undertaken unofficially by soldiers during the battle.

The battle has often been discussed in terms of the last stand of the republic. Nearly all those soldiers who went into the forray to defend the republic`s cause would give their lives or lose their freedom this month. Of those who survived the battle many would spend years in "re-education" camps. The overall commander at Xuan Loc, General Le Minh Dao, would remain in capitivity until 1992, seventeen years after the battle ended. The sacrifice of these men and women in the eleventh hour of the republic stands testiment to the loyalty many held for the Republic of Vietnam.

Refugees fleeing the Communist advance flocked around the military of the republic,
clogging roads and generally making military movement of any kind difficult.
Nevertheless, the republic`s military felt a responsibility to the civilians, and thousands were
evacuated aboard military aircraft from the conflict area as shown in this photo,

"The Supermen": Battle of Xuan Loc April 1975 - ARVN 18th Division

Battle of Xuan Loc was the last major battle of the Vietnam War, the vastly outnumbered 18th Division stood and fought at Xuan Loc, 38 miles north of Saigon. It was commanded by General Le Minh Dao.

They were decimated at Xuan Loc and Bien Hoa'

The Battle of Xuan Loc; Mar 17 – Apr 17, 1975 & The End

Xuan Loc was the last major battle for South Vietnam. This town sits astride Q. L. (National Road) #1, some 40 odd miles to the northeast of Saigon (on the road to Phan Thiet) and was the capitol of South Vietnam’s Long Khanh province. The North Vietnamese Army (NVA) attack fell on the Army Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) 18th Division.12

On March 17th, 1975 the NVA 6th & 7th Divisions attacked Xuan Loc but were repulsed by the ARVN 18th. On April 9th the NVA 341st Division joined the attack. After a four thousand round artillery bombardment, these three divisions massed, and spearheaded by Russian tanks and other armored vehicles, mounted a second assault on Xuan Loc. But again, the ARVN 18th held its ground. The NVA reinforced with their 325th Division and began moving their 10th & 304th Divisions into position. Eventually, in a classic example of the art of “Mass and Maneuver” the NVA massed 40,000 men and overran Xuan Loc.

During this fight, the ARVN 18th had 5,000 men at Xuan Loc. These men managed to virtually destroy 3 NVA divisions, but on April 17th, 1975 they were overwhelmed by the sheer numbers and the weight of the “Mass.” Before overrunning Xuan Loc the NVA had committed six full divisions, plus a host of various support troops.

“Dire Consequences” for Most Americans from $3.5T Infrastructure Bill

Stanley Druckenmiller is one of the most influential investors in America today. He became a billionaire himself by making billions more for his clients as a fund manager. At the time he chose to close his asset management firm Duquesne Capital in 2010, after more than 30 years of investing other people’s money, it was managing over $12 billion in assets. Over the course of his career, markets themselves grew from billions to trillions in size.

That background confirms Druckenmiller as someone who gained both understanding and experience in handling very large sums of money in the real world. As such, he has a clear understanding of the impact the proposed $3.5 trillion “infrastructure” spending bill will have on Americans if it passes.

He has been making the rounds on Capitol Hill to warn politicians about the astronomically large spending bill. He warns they will guarantee “dire consequences” that harms low and middle-class Americans if they pass it. On July 23, 2021, he spoke with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle on that topic, telling her what he’s been telling lawmakers.]

While many Biden backers are enjoying seeing the hammer come down on pro-Trump, non-violent protesters, they should take note: the kind of totalitarian “justice” system they are cheering on will soon be coming for them. It always does.

The recent felony conviction and eight month prison sentence of January 6th protester Paul Hodgkins is an affront to any notion of justice. It is a political charge and a political verdict by a political court. Every American regardless of political persuasion should be terrified of a court system so beholden to politics instead of justice.

We’ve seen this movie before and it does not end well.

Worse than this miscarriage of justice is the despicable attempt by the prosecutor in the case to label Hodgkins – who has no criminal record and was accused of no violent crime – a “terrorist.”

South Viet Nam Air Force - 1975 - Operations

The Cooper-Church Amendment had a profound effect on the morale and outlook of South Vietnamese leaders at all levels. No longer was there a lever to deter the North Vietnamese from building up forces for an all out fight for a military victory. Only the threat of resuming the bombing restrained North Vietnam. With the amendment, this threat was neutralized. Finally, whereas U.S. airpower had been decisive in halting the 1968 and 1972 offensives, that firepower would no longer be available. Confronted with these factors and the curtailment of money and equipment, Vietnamese leadership stood at the crossroads on the brink of the 1975 offensive.

Disunion Sentiment in Congress in 1794

John Taylor was born in Orange County, Virginia, in 1750, one year before James Madison, and the boys were neighbors; but Taylor afterwards moved to Caroline County, where he lived for the rest of his life, and died in 1824, at the age of seventy-four years. To distinguish him from others of the same name as himself he was called John Taylor of Caroline. He was an officer in the Revolutionary War, and ranked with the foremost men of his State. He did not approve of the Constitution, but was not a member of the State Convention in which its ratification was so bitterly contested. December 12, 1792, he took a seat in the United States Senate made vacant by the resignation of Richard Henry Lee, and served until he resigned in 1794. In 1803, from October 17 to December 13, he filled an unexpired term by appointment, caused by the death of Stevens Thomson Mason, and again he served from December, 1822, to his death in August, 1824. He was in the State Legislature several times, and in 1798 introduced the famous Virginia Resolutions which Madison had prepared. He was one of the conference of Jefferson, George Nicholas, Wilson Cary Nicholas, John Breckinridge, and Madison, at which it was determined to formulate the creed which the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions announced. He was always a consistent state rights man, and the preservation of the division of power between the general and state governments was the keynote to his political belief. The federal party,” he said in one of his newspaper letters, to Thomas Ritchie, printed in *“The Spirit of Seventy-six,” March 27, 1809, “were in favor of a government founded upon a balance of power between the departments of the government, their opponents of one founded upon its division between government and the people, and between two governments.” It is not known whether he was an emancipationist, as nearly all the leaders of thought in Virginia of this period were, but he denounced any interference with slavery by the general government, and the fear that there would be such interference, if the policy of the general government should be shaped by an unchecked majority, was really the fundamental cause of his insistence upon state rights.

The constitutionality of this act is attacked upon the ground that it conflicts with both the Thirteenth Amendment, which abolished slavery and involuntary servitude, except a punishment for crime, and the Fourteenth Amendment, which prohibits certain restrictive legislation on the part of States.

Sandy Hook Families Offered $33 Million Settlement by Gun Maker Remington

Via John "This is a really bad precedent.   What is Remington thinking? From here on out, every person harmed by someone using a Remington firearm will be going to Remington with their hands out. Failing a handout, they will sue......as will every other gunmaker be sued.  Incredibly stupid move, Remington. Wait till Ford and Chevy get sued for drunk drivers who were driving their cars.......this is a VERY slippery slope, and we're already sliding."

Via Ed "This is such a bullshit - blame the gun manufacturer because somebody misused one.  We better sue baseball bat mfrs also. It's always the liberals that do these crimes- so they want laws to protect Innocent citizens from themselves- from they themselves going wacko.  We better ban all knives, also. Chefs will have to find a different way to cut food.  Actually, we better ban everything.  Ignorance prevails- look at our country's leadership. It's a pathetic joke."

******************

Two of the bankrupt firearms manufacturer’s insurers are backing the offer of $3.66 million each for nine families, a person with knowledge of the case said.

Remington Arms Co. has offered to pay nearly $33 million to settle claims that its marketing practices were in part responsible for the Sandy Hook school massacre that left 20 first-graders and six faculty dead, according to court documents.

The now-bankrupt gun maker proposed a settlement of $3.66 million apiece for nine families who lost loved ones in the 2012 shooting at the elementary school in Newtown, Conn., in a series of filings made in Connecticut Superior Court Tuesday.

Josh Koskoff, a lawyer representing the families, said they were considering their next steps.

"Since this case was filed in 2014, the families’ focus has been on preventing the next Sandy Hook,” Mr. Koskoff said in a statement. “An important part of that goal has been showing banks and insurers that companies that sell assault weapons to civilians are fraught with financial risk.”

Lawyers for Remington didn’t respond to requests.

Remembering Anthony Bourdain and His Passion for Southeast Asian Food

Bourdain's mother, Gladys Bourdain, told The New York Times: "He is absolutely the last person in the world I would have ever dreamed would do something like this."[131]

Anthony Bourdain meant many things to many people.

To those that worked with him, he was a unique storyteller, a skilled conversationalist who had the ability to talk with anyone and everyone. He traveled adventurously and extensively, inspiring people from around the world to do similarly, proving to be an unashamedly authentic voice.

But on June 8, 2018, the world lost that voice

GRNC: Oppose discharge ban

The latest threat to North Carolina gun rights appears to be a coordinated effort by multiple county commissions to virtually end shooting on private land, with two hearings coming up on August 5th and 12th. Only you can end this cancer before it spreads!

This new attack by gun ban leftists seems to be firearms discharge ordinances designed not to provide “reasonable public safety” as proponents claim, but instead to create wide swaths of areas within counties where the lawful discharge of firearms for training, recreation and pest control are prohibited.

The first and most immediate threat is in Guilford County, where a newly elected Democrat majority on its county commission is debating just such a discharge ban, with a public hearing scheduled for next week, August 5th.What this draconian discharge ban does:

ð  Defines anyplace where a gun is discharged, including your own land, as a “shooting range;”

ð  All but bans hunting anywhere within 150 yards of virtually any structure;

ð    Bans even shooting a rat in your own barn with a .22 rifle;

ð  Prohibits all moving targets, including not only shooting at varmints, but also simple moving targets such as a metallic “dueling tree”

ð     Bans each and every discharge of a rifle or pistol unless a berm 2 feet thick and 4 feet above the target is used; and

ð    Ends all training for concealed handgun permits or other defensive firearm training at outdoor ranges.

The Guilford commissioners will claim we are wrong, but they will be lying because the sleight of hand they are trying to pull lies within the ridiculously over-broad definitions of what constitutes a “shooting range or gallery,” as well as other definitions.

We need you to contact Guilford commissioners REGARDLESS OF WHERE YOU LIVE!

This ordinance cannot be allowed to create a precedent which will undoubtedly be followed by other left-leaning county commissions.

Biden Motorcade Greeted by Jeers and Middle Finger Salutes Arriving in Pennsylvania, VIDEO

 Via sw44magnumman

The people of Pennsylvania showed up to greet the installed occupant of the White House, Joe Biden, upon his arrival in Pennsylvania – which he calls his home state.  The illegitimate office holder was scheduled to speak at Mack Truck Plant in Macungie, Pennsylvania.

Unfortunately for those who are attempting to manage the White House, the jeers, boos and middle finger salutes from the crowd was not exactly what they were looking for.

An Ottoman supply train still resting where it was ambushed by Lawrence of Arabia 104 years ago on the Hejaz railway

Via GUNBB

           hejaz-railway-5

The Hejaz railway that ran from Damascus to Medina, through the Hejaz region of Saudi Arabia, was one of the principal railroads of the Ottoman Turkish Empire and a vital route across the desert. The railway was built in 1900 at the behest of the Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid II and was supposed to extend all the way to Mecca in order to facilitate pilgrimage to the Holy city. But its primary motive was to strengthen the empire’s control over the most distant provinces of the empire.

The railway reached only as far as Medina, some 400 kilometers short of its destination, when the First World War broke out and all construction works came to a grinding halt. When the Arabs, led by the strategic British officer T.E. Lawrence, better known as the Lawrence of Arabia, rose up in revolt against Turkish domination, the railway became the principal target. Today, large sections of the railway lie abandoned in the desert with tracks swallowed up by the sand, and carriages and engines toppled over and overgrown with shrubs.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin Calls Out Anti-Asian American Discrimination in U.S. During Trip to Singapore

Reports of anti-Asian hate crimes have risen 149% in the U.S.’s 16 largest cities over the past year, according to the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University San Bernardino. The biggest increase has happened in Democrat-run and dominated New York City, Los Angeles, and Boston.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin called out anti-Asian American discrimination in the United States during a trip to East Asia this week to reassure allies and partners.

“Our partnerships draw strength from our shared belief in greater openness, and our belief that people live best when they govern themselves. Now, our democratic values aren’t always easy to reach. And the United States doesn’t always get it right,” he said.
