Ashley Edens
Jason Edens 22, of Franklin, Tenn. was assigned to 1st Squadron, 13th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas. He died April 26 in Bethesda, Maryland, of wounds sustained April 15 in Laghman province, Afghanistan.

Lordy Brock, such misery. Three things I think of when I look at those pics, first, sitting in front of the tv as a kid watching the news with my stepdad and the Viet Nam war was always talked about and every night listening to the body count of our dead for JUST THAT DAY. It was such unsettling times and our country was so uncertain and afraid. Second, I hope those scenes are not played out in our country, but I fear the worst. Third, what ever happened to those people. Were they able to put their lives back in order? Will we be able to do the same if our fate is the same? Many came here I believe to start over, there is no where for us to go. I read over at Selco's that you are never the same. But, why is it some people are so strong and others who have the same experience just can't go on? Sorry to go all philosophical on you, I need rest, or maybe a beer, lol, probably both ; )

Yes, and when I told one of my Vietnamese friends before the last election that Obama was a Communist, he looked like he had seen a ghost. His father, who has been to my house, was in a re-education camp for, as I remember, 12/14 years as he was a full colonel. You can just imagine that they never dreamed this could possibly happen here.

ReplyDeleteI can't even imagine what it was like being in Viet Nam. I've seen the photos, read the stories, but I know that doesn't even begin to touch it. Thank you for your service.
Being a 1955 Classic ;) I was just young enough to miss some of that, but def old enough to know what was going on.

I enjoyed my 6 years during the war and 2 afterwards, but I wasn't fighting, just doing sinful things.:)
