Friday, May 3rd 2013

Below is a list of topics we cover in the one week course. I will be condensing it
to one day and will cover as much as possible for the PATCON. The first 5-6 hrs will be
lecture, discussion, demo and dirt drills. The last 2 hrs will be a walk through scenario.

We will need to do this on Friday because it will require all day and I do not want to impact Saturday's events.
We need at least 10 participants and not more than 15.

This course was developed for military small unit field conditions. As most civilians groups
will not have support capability I  will present it with austere conditions in mind.

Cost will be $100 per person with half going to support the PATCON

An Open Letter from Bear

Via Bonnie Gadsden

An open letter to all who have posted comments concerning our recent bout with the police state...

Words cannot convey what Marcela and I have experienced, reading what Will wrote concerning our current circumstances and the following comments, Love & support that it has so far, produced...
As we have read the article and the following comments, both on Will's blog and Bonnie Gadsden's blog we have laughed and we have cried. Our hearts have filled with a sense of brotherhood and Love. Our egos got filled with indignation and guffawed at some of what was said. With an immediate follow-on thought of understanding that everyone is entitled to their opinion and the freedom to say it. Even if we disagree with it.

Speaking of which, I want to get this out of the way now, so I can get on with what else I would like to express...

To the person who thinks I'm a malingerer-in-waiting, in my claim that my back is ruined because of what happened... When I read your words, I laughed. I laughed because, the quote by Albert Einstein rings true, in my life once again... “Condemnation without investigation, is the height of ignorance...” And to be my honest self, I also laughed at your ignorance. I mean, really? How on earth does one make a condemning, detailed diagnosis of a back injury, without having first investigated said injury? Then, I continued laughing, as I had a visualization of you struggling to stand up with your hands cuffed behind your back. Then throwing in the high stress levels created by being totally confused as to why the hell you're even in handcuffs and there are several assault weapons aimed at your head with fingers on the triggers and the men holding said guns, are yelling at you... While you're getting up, holding your burning shoulders back as far as you can due to the searing pain caused by the bicep muscle in your right arm having been torn during the cuffing process, one of your feet slip out from under you and you fall, unrestricted, flat on your ass. IF you knew me, which you do not, you would know that I am not a mean person by any means, but I do admit that I had a good chuckle, envisioning you in that scenario... Then, I stopped chuckling, because it did happen to me, so I know what you'd really feel like. Like someone else said, you're either a provocateur or an idiot and you should go back into your hole...

To the sheriff's deputy... You, too, deserve the Einstein Ignorance award... You said that I know all of the deputies that were assaulting my wife and I? Really? And just how would you know this? And why would that be the case? I know who some of them are, but I don't know them personally. And even then, if I did know them, so what? If anything, if they did know me, this would never have occurred, because they would have known that I am not someone they need to come out to confront, with guns loaded and in the fire position...

Then you say that I could see them coming? Hmmm... Well. You're wrong. I actually have a very limited field-of-view, from where I normally sit and begin my day.

I am very interested as to how you seem to know me so well. And how you seem to know so much about this case. I could be wrong on this part. I know that one of the tactics used by officers is to act as if they are totally aware of things, when they're not, hoping people will talk about things you'd not known before... To act like you don't know something shows weakness and those such as cops and others in positions of authority don't like showing weakness... So yes, I could be wrong on this point. But I frankly doubt it.

Moving on to other points you make... You make your statements about how you think things went down, and I shake my head. I know that you're coming from a place of those assaulting my house. Fine. Now look at it from my pov...

I'm sitting at my spot in the front room, at the computer, sipping my first cup of coffee, checking my email and talking with my wife. We are talking about the things we are planning to do that day. She's in the kitchen preparing our breakfast. I am in a semi-grumpy mood due to too little sleep the past two nights due to a slightly pinched nerve on the left side of my neck. (You know, you turn your head too quickly and it pinches then burns? That kind.) By then, it was all but gone, but like I said, I was a little grumpy. About 20 minutes prior, I had only been downstairs for about a minute when Marcela comes into the kitchen in her own negative mood, from having to have chased some loose chickens, first off for the day... I yelled, “Can we please start the day without negativity? PLEASE?” She turned and looked at me and she apologized. Then I apologized too, because I knew I had just told her to not be negative, negatively... (silly, I know.) Then I went into the kitchen and we hugged. I poured a cup of coffee and went to sit down. Sans the first-off-yell, this is pretty much how our days used to start, everyday...

So, I'm sitting at my computer and I hear cars go by on the dirt road that runs along our front yard, and at a high rate of speed. I sensed three cars. I leaned over to look, to no avail as they had already passed. I can't see very much out our front window on the door. The blinds to the other windows are usually always shut as they were then. A few seconds later, a couple of more cars go by, fast... I called out to Marcela, that someone is sure moving fast on the road... I then got up to look out the south window toward our crop area, from the kitchen and I saw an unmarked car moving fast up the road, away from my house, toward a neighbor's. I said to Marcela, “I wonder what's going on up there?”. I walked back to my spot and took a sip of coffee. I wasn't involved. If it was bad enough, my neighbor, ProLife would tell me later. I went on with waking up, to get my day going, going out to my field, fertilizing & weeding, irrigating..

From my pov, I haven't “done anything wrong”... I am not expecting the cops. I'm not even thinking of cops. I'm thinking of how many weeds I will be pulling. I'm thinking of how much fertilizing I need to do... Then, Marcela, looking out the window herself, says to me, “Bear, there's guys in a silver truck driving off the road by our corn.”... I leaned back and thought, wtf? I then leaned down to pull on my boots and as I'm doing so, I say, “hold on, I'll go check.” and she says that she'll go out now and heads toward the west, or side door and out of my sight... As I'm grabbing my second boot I hear her yell, “Bear! Men with guns!”

My mind, is still foggy. I haven't had a full cup of joe yet. All I can think is, “WTF?”, but I yell, “get back in here!”, I get my boot on and I head towards the door. As I'm moving that way, I'm putting two and two together, that I had just seen an unmarked car. I had just heard several cars drive past my house and now Marcela is yelling that there are men with guns. This all happens in my head in a flash and still all I can think is, WTF? As I round the corner, I see a cop with an assault rifle aimed at my head. I can see his finger is on the trigger. I have just heard him use my name. I do not know him, but I have seen him at the courthouse. I pray that I don't get shot. I don't know what others would do, but I start asking what the problem is, wondering where my wife is, and really just wondering what is going on.

Please keep in mind, that what had happened 25 minutes prior with my wife, is not a part of my thinking. It wasn't even an argument, much less a fight.

I get outside and now I see three assault rifles and pistols aimed at me and everyone seems pretty darned upset, at me in particular...

To those who speak of brave & daring moves that would be made at this point... Ummm... No. Wasn't gonna be happening here. No way. None of my Mom's stupid kids, lived.

I knew I had done nothing wrong. I don't have a criminal mind. I believe in freedom. I believe the organic Constitution is a document written to guarantee and uphold the rights endowed to us by our Creator... I believe in growing & processing whole, healthy organic foods. I believe that in helping others I help myself, so I help others as often as possible. This is because we all have the same Creator... I believe that my wife, Marcela & I, were wronged to the Nth degree. I believe that it can happen to anyone, at anytime, as well, and are starting to find out that, indeed, it does.

We were bothering no one. We were living our lives in relative peace, that is other than a couple of nosy, selfish, mean people that really were/are more like gnats to me... Pesky but self-imposed short boring life-spans... In a figurative way, they're going to get a swat themselves... *grins* (Legal recourse is being pursued.)

At this point, I just want to stay alive. I don't want there to be an 'accident'. I want to know what the hell is going on and all I'm getting is bullshit. I'm witnessing a bunch of power hungry men, who have obviously made a huge mistake, who take the authority position granted to them by the People, a wee bit far, imho...

Finally, after falling down and all that fun stuff, I begin getting the gist of what they're doing at my house. They are telling me that I beat my wife. Not asking. Telling.

I look Perecz in the eye and I tell him that I Love my wife very much and that he's insane. He tells me, “Bear, all men that beat their wives, tell us they Love them.” After my jaw hit the ground I said, “so you're telling me that I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't?” He shrugged his shoulders and raised his eyebrows as if to say, “well?”... I shook my head and said, “this is insane! Look at my wife (as I gestured towards her)! Does that look like a battered woman to you?

Now, here's where he tried to entrap me... It was pathetic, really. He goes over to Marcela and the cop with her. He then comes back to me and says, “Bear, why are Marcela's knuckles all scraped up?” At this point, I was beyond incredulous. I said, “I don't know what the hell you're talking about.” So he goes and gets Marcela and brings her over to where I am sitting and has her hold her hands out. On her left ring finger is a superficial scratch that is approximately, 1/16th of an inch long. I kid you not. I look up at him and I laughed. “You've got to be kidding me.” Marcela is beside herself and heatedly repeats what she had said to the first cop: “You have to be kidding! We live on a farm! It's physical work and you gets cuts and bruises all the time, and I already told you I had chased chickens this morning and got that scratch on some chicken wire!” He shakes his head and walks away.

Are you getting the picture, deputy? Can you see how you made an out-of-hand statement that is patently not true? If you can't, I'm sure others can...

I truly hope people will begin investigating before condemning...

Reviewing the redacted video taken from the pov of one of the deputies and listening to the redacted dispatch conversations, has helped me to recall a lot of different things that happened during the raid. I know that some like the deputy say it wasn't a raid, but come on. They were all wearing tactical vests, carrying assault weapons that were in the fire position, swarming around my place coming to, in their minds, hunt some bear... Namely, me. Namely, because they know that I will stand up for my rights. Standing up for my rights is not, in any way, shape or form, saying that I am violent or aggressive towards cops, or anyone for that matter...

Somehow, someway, things have become so convoluted that I am considered an enemy of the state, for defending the rights guaranteed by the Constitution. So much so, that the deputies decided before coming to my house, that I was going to “be aggressive” toward them. And the ironic thing is? They have created what they irrationally feared. I am going to be aggressive toward all of them. I am going to go after all of them in a very aggressive, legal manner. In fact you could say that we are going to pursue this, legally, with a vengeance.

All of this. All of what we're all facing with this semi-communist/semi-fascist regime that spews so much double-speak that I feel like I'm living in the 1984 movie, is nothing but a created way to employ a lot of otherwise un-employable people and subjugate the rest of the masses into an even more draconian slavery than it is at present. People like those that read these blogs and believe in personal sovereignty... People like us, are a threat to their bottom line. That's all, really. We threaten their livelihoods. Their 401k's. Their savings. Their vacations. Their nice houses and nice cars... All monies that have been sucked out of the populace. They feed off the public tit and they're creating every way possible to fine, imprison and control those they are supposed to be serving... All for the bottom line.

So, that's where we're gonna hit them the hardest. Their bottom line. It's the only way to make them listen, at present...

We really didn't ask for this. This all happened due to some nosy neighbors, fueled by some over-zealous cops that are going to learn that they can't just get away with this police state bullshit. I'm so sick of labels... The cops call me a Constitutionalist and as I've said, I wear it proudly. But to be more accurate, I should be called a “Creatorist”. Not a creationist. A Creatorist... I believe we are part of the Creator. The Creator would never imprison ItSelf or take away its own freedom. I think the ones that think they can, don't know they're part of the Creator, as well... Which is fine. Until their beliefs, infringe upon mine. Upon Ours...

Look at how easily these small-minded people have upset and caused untold havoc in our once peaceful lives... They can, and probably will do it to many more, if we don't stop this insanity and stop it quickly.

We have lost our livelihood because of this bullshit. On top of all the things she did around the farm before this happened, Marcela has taken up the slack and is doing all of the things I once did, as best as she can, because I no longer can. But she couldn't bring in the entire harvest and we lost most of it...We're now to the point where we have to cull most of our chicken flock because we don't have the money to feed them. It's a vicious cycle we've been forced into.

I am NOT making any wild threats. I do not enjoy violence. I want to live in peace, freely. But it's not being made simple. There are those that don't like us being free and they're not some kind of ghostly mooslim terrrrrrissts. They're real terrorists and they get paid from our taxes. Think on that.

I want to state publicly, that I do not hold any personal grudges against any of those involved, but I am going to seek that you cannot and will not do this to people any more.
Nor, have I ever shown any aggression towards ANY of the law enforcement officers (corporate policy officers) in this, or any other county, anywhere...

My back is now against the wall. I can be pushed no farther... I had a long talk with Marcela last night about all of this and what we're facing... I told her this... “I am going to die someday. We all do. We can't get off of this planet any other way. I wanted to die quietly, in my sleep, if possible but right now it's looking like that's not going to happen. So, when I die, it will be defending our Creator-given unalienable rights, more'n likely...” She looked me in my eyes and told me she is by my side until we leave this planet... She is all I need...

We thank you all, so very much for your support... Will, you are a champion and I consider you a new-found brother-in-arms and friend that I can trust... What you wrote, to get the story of our plight out to the world, is not something we asked for, but are eternally grateful it was you who did so... Mere words cannot express...

Bonnie Gadsden... I am so glad that circumstances have led our paths to join... You have vision & drive and your desire to help Marcela & me in this time of need will always be remembered, long after we have shed our shackles... I look forward to meeting you and moving forward with the dreams we all have of living our lives free of tyranny... I also want to thank you for recommending we put up a donation button to help offset the coming court costs. We hadn't thought of that, to be honest... And we're more than grateful, for the kind donation you have made.

I hope that I have been able to show everyone what has happened to us, our lives changed drastically for the worse, literally in a blink of an eye... I hope that you know it can happen to any of you. To any of us...

I have long thought of that poem written after WW2 about how they came for the... (name your oppressed) until they came for the writer of the poem and there was no one left to speak up for him...
I have waited too long and now, I am speaking up...

While I'm remembering, I would like to say to the few that have made comments about lynching, violence or some other form of insanity, you are either a provocateur, an idiot or both. You need to stop doing so, now, and get some balance, get a life, if at all possible...

To the people who have left comments that they're shocked that this happened in Idaho, I would like to say this... Yes, there have been a few bad apples. Both in the government and citizenry... as there are, everywhere else. But far and away, the rest of the people around us are kind, compassionate, caring & friendly people, most of whom would be labeled Constitutionalists... (Meaning, they believe the Constitution is there to protect their freedoms.) So, if you were considering moving to Idaho, please don't let this experience sway you. If anything, we'd like to have more Constitution Loving people living up here with us!

To all of the AWESOME people that have left such incredibly cool posts, we thank you from our hearts...

Everyone who has left kind comments and to all our friends, we want you to know that you have made this all more (forgive the pun) bearable, than it would've been going this alone... You've given us hope in Humanity... The outpouring of kindness from our true friends has been a whelming & wonderful experience that is greatly helping us through this fight we're ready to fight... You all know who you are and I want you to know that Marcela & I Love you very much...

As for you, Pro-Life? I'm recommending you for sainthood... You and your family have been a rock for us. We could never have asked for better, more awesome people to live next to... In our opinion, you're the greatest... You will forever have our vote...

Remember...

There are far more of us, than there are of them... Please consider this fact...

Peace Out...

Dove Dinner Lands Texas Man In Hot Water With Law

Via Keep It Simple Survival

dove cook out Dove Dinner Lands Texas Man In Hot Water With Law

A Texas man is in hot water with the law after cooking and eating a dove that had flown against the side of his home, broke its neck and died.

Being dove hunting season in Texas, Ryan Adams thought it was a stroke of luck when he discovered the Texas white-winged dove right next to his home in Pflugerville.

“This is the same bird that hunter’s pay just buckets of money to go out and shoot,” he said. “They take their time… and I just got one for free?”

Adams decided to do what he thought any aficionado of wild game would do in his shoes — cook the dove for dinner.

“I have never had such fresh meat before. I had meat that had come to me that was fairly fresh that had slaughtered the week before but never like that day,” Adams recalled.

But according to Texas Parks and Wildlife spokesman Steven Lightfoot, that was the wrong thing to do.

RepresentativeChaffetz: No One Menioned Video To Me In Libya

They must actually believe we are too dumb to figure out their ineptitude.

U.S. Representative and member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee Jason Chaffetz traveled to Libya and upon returning made it known that the video that was blamed for the Benghazi attack was never mentioned to him while he was there.
Rep. Chaffetz said,
“I wish that I could tell you everything that I learned. I did go to Libya, I did drop everything. I had the same type of notice that was given to the Democrats. In fact, the State Department sent an attorney to follow me in my every footstep … I wish that I could share everything that I learned there … It’s been too hard, too difficult to get basic information. I will tell you, though, that when I was in Libya — good part of the day — never once did a person ever mention a video. Never. And I am fascinated to know and understand from the President of the United States, from the Secretary of State, and from the Ambassador to the United Nations how they can justify that this video caused this attack. It was a terrorist attack. Let’s be honest.”
Chaffetz believes there was a “coordinated effort” between the White House and the State Department to scale down security precautions in Libya prior to the attacks on the consulate.
In an interview on Fox News, Chaffetz was asked if he had proof. He said that it was his “strong opinion.”

“I’ve been diving into this, I’ve talked to the people who are going to testify, I’ve been on the ground in Libya, that’s my impression,” he said.

He also claims there were multiple warning signs that the administration should have noticed and heightened security measures in Benghazi.

“You’ve got to understand this was a very tumultuous situation; twice in the lead-up to this, to their attack on 9/11 [2012], our compound in Benghazi was bombed. Twice the British ambassador had an assassination attempt. We were moving into 9/11 and now the White House wants to say we had no direct information, no actionable intelligence — are you kidding me?” said Chaffetz.

He said, “Between the White House and the State Department … they need to interact together, clean up the statements that they’ve made, fix these problems so they never, ever happen again.”

The Arrogant Ignorance Of Marxist Ideology

marxists

VERBATIM

I feel we are coming to the crossroads with this upcoming election. It’s down to whether the arrogant ignorant continue their march of tyrannical rule over us, or the beginning of the turn toward the freedoms we are guaranteed. That’s it. The bottom line. Plain and simple. One or the other. Tyranny or freedom.

Arrogant ignorance (also known as the Dunning-Kruger effect), is at the heart of all we are facing. Some arrogant ignorance is laughable. But the enemy we face today within our sovereign borders is hardly laughable. Combine arrogance and ignorance with Marxism and you have a witch’s brew of despotism whipped up to poison America forever. (caveat, I include Fascism and Nazism as aspects of Marxism, because they all represent statist control over the ruled masses.)

Why is Marxism ideology arrogant and ignorant? Ignorant because it exchanges a Monarch for an army of bureaucratic Monarchs. All it does is create another privileged class of rulers. Arrogant because it assumes that a bureaucratic class is somehow more equipped, mentally or otherwise, to rule over their fellow human beings. Instead of an educated self-ruling citizenship, we have an entire group of people in America who have been force-fed that witch’s brew in the public school system for decades. And look what we have…a lot of arrogant ignorant people with giant egos who think they are the “Ruling Class” and the 47% that Romney referred to as the dependent class.

If you wish to make yourself indispensable to the masses and rule over them, you must clear your path of obstacles, obstacles like educated intelligent people. You can’t have educated intelligent people or they may wish to rule themselves and rise up against you. You can have a lot of Dunning-Krugers, but not actually smart people. If there are any educated intelligent people, you must get rid of them.

In France, before the Revolution, the Churches owned the schools. Robespierre could not allow that and hold power, so he proceeded with the Reign of Terror, killing and pillaging. He created the “Committee of Safety” and proceeded to guillotine 17,000 people, mostly nobles and priests. Another 20,000 were imprisoned or killed without trial. Robespierre justified the Terror by using Enlightenment principles, although some of the Terror’s victims included influential Enlightenment figures.

Please note the “Committee of Safety” and “using Enlightenment principles” in that last paragraph. Can you see the correlation between International Code Councils and the supposed global “enlightenment” of Sustainability? Statists are the same no matter what era of history you choose to study. I use the French Revolution here because it a precursor to European ideology that led to Karl Marx. The propaganda was much the same as you see today. Code Councils are the new Committees of Safety. The Enlightenment, i.e. Global Environmentalism is being used to control people and will be used to starve them out. The French Revolution resulted in the tyranny of Napoleon and after Napoleon evolved into statist control in an attempt to achieve a common Social Justice, as Europe appears today.

For those of you who are not aware of the fine points of the French Revolution compared to the American Revolution, I am posting the following: American vs. the French Revolution
“Unlike the American Revolution, whose philosophical ancestors were the English liberals, the French Revolution was fundamentally fathered by the French radical philosophers, especially Jean Jacques Rousseau, and inherited the faith in reason engendered by The Enlightenment. Reneé Descartes’ trust in geometric-like reasoning and Rousseau’s belief in the common will and sovereignty of the people framed the conception guiding the French Revolution. This conception is mechanical. Government is a machine, fueled by coercive power, and driven by reason; and its destination is Social Justice. Government is thus a tool to reach a future goal — improving man. Those in charge of the State would therefore use reason to apply government to further and create Social Justice.”
“This conception is clearly different from that of the American revolutionaries. For the Americans, interests were the guiding force; for the French, reason. For the Americans, Freedom was to be preserved against the State; for the French, the State was used by reason to achieve Social Justice. For the Americans, individual rights were essential to protect interests; for the French, the collective, the sovereignty of the people, the general will stood above rights. Finally, for the Americans, no one interest could be entrusted with the State — all interests had to be limited and balanced by their opposition; for the French, the State was a tool that should have no limit so long as Social Justice was pursued according to the common will.”
“(The principles of the French Revolution) underlie the revolutions of 1848 in Europe, the first stirring of socialism, the writings of Marx and the birth of communism and democratic socialism. The French Revolution was defeated but the Revolution was victorious. Infesting intellectuals everywhere, its ideas eventuated in the successful Russian Revolution. “
(If all you know of the French Revolution is the popular, romantic Broadway play, Les Miserables, you are far away from the critical knowledge of why the American Revolution and consequent establishment of our Constitution is superior to the French.)

So here we are. Marx is dead. Engels is dead. Hegel is dead. Rousseau and Napoleon are dead. Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, all dead. But, the failures of Marxist ideas live on and keep being repeating like Bill Murray’s movie “Ground Hog Day” …until we get it right. The inheritors of Marx and forebears in like-mindedness are still working their wiles behind the scenes of our government. We have wrought the brazen, outrageous, fanatical, Fabian rule by those ideologues in power for the last 100 years now. Is it time for an American Revolution redux? I think so.

We got it right in the beginning of this nation. November 6th we will find out if Newsweek in 2009 was right, that “We Are All Socialists Now,” or we begin a march of our own, en masse, toward the America we were given by the Grace of God and His leadership.

The Fourth Freedom Index for the 112th Congress Has Just Been Published: Hold Your Congressmen Accountable for Their Votes

In order to preserve our freedom under the Constitution, We the People must hold our elected representatives and senators in Congress accountable for their votes on key issues. One good tool for doing that is "The Freedom Index: A Congressional Scorecard Based on the U.S. Constitution," which is published twice a year by The New American magazine.

Each issue of the "Freedom Index" scores all 435 representatives and all 100 senators on ten key votes based on their adherence to constitutional principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, national sovereignty, and a traditional foreign policy of avoiding foreign entanglements.

The fourth "Freedom Index" was published in the October 22, 2012 issue of The New American. The scores are derived by dividing a Congressman’s constitutional votes (pluses) by the total number he cast (pluses and minuses) and multiplying by 100. Therefore the constitutionally best score is a 100 percent and the worst score is 0 percent. The average House score for this index (votes 31-40) is 47 percent, and the average Senate score is 40 percent. Ten senators earned 100 percent scores; three representatives did so in the House.

Please click here  to view the current "Freedom Index" and look up your representative and senators to see how well they scored. If you need to look up who your senators and representative are based on your address, click here.

Next, we recommend that you send an email to your representative and senators and let them know whether you approve or disapprove of their votes.

Of course, if one of your congressmen scores a 100 percent, let him know you approve of his performance (assuming you agree with the scoring, of course). However, a score of 90 percent or below means that they voted against the constitution one or more times. Be sure you let them know in your email that you disapprove of their incorrect votes, and ask them why they voted the wrong way. We'll be sending the same message to all three of your congressmen, so be sure to include a message to all three in your email message. If you've looked up the score for all three, be sure to mention each congressman by name with their corresponding score. Nonetheless, we have written the message in a generic way, just in case you don't have time to look up the individual scores.

Click here to purchase hard copies of this new Freedom Index for distribution to others.

Thanks.

Propagandist for State-Run Media Wants Even More of Your Money

Via SHNV

LCR
VERBATIM

 by Thomas J. DiLorenzo

I speak of course of Ken Burns, the $50,000/speech (according to Forbes) PBS civil servant/documentary film maker. In response to Mitt Romney’s critique of PBS during the first presidential debate, Burns authored a long defense of PBS in the October 10 edition of USA Today. The first thing Burns does in his article is to inadvertently admit that the main purpose of his work for PBS is to serve as a propagandist for state power over the citizens. His boasts of the popularity of his documentaries also prove that taxpayer subsidies to PBS are a waste of money.

In his first paragraph Burns recalls how he assisted the military/industrial complex in its propaganda efforts by producing a documentary called "The War" (about World War II) and making a special trip to West Point to "motivate" the cadets with film clips. He then boasts that many of the West Point cadets admitted that they decided to apply to West Point because of an earlier Ken Burns state-subsidized propaganda film, The Civil War. Good job, Ken! Keep those taxpayer subsidies rolling!

Burns really lets the cat out of the bag in the next paragraph where he quotes a U.S. Army Major named Sullivan Ballou, who wrote his wife during the "Civil War" about why he thought the war was being fought. It was not to free the slaves but to defend the Lincoln regime in Washington, D.C. "American civilization now leans on the triumph of the government," he wrote, and "I am willing . .. to lay down all my joys in this life, to help maintain this government . . ." What a job the military propagandists of his day must have done on the hapless Major Ballou (assuming that the letter is authentic).

How odd that anyone would equate the killing of some 850,000 Americans (the latest estimate of "Civil War" deaths), the bombing, burning, and destruction of entire cities, the mass killing of tens of thousands of civilians, the rape, pillage and plunder of thousands more, the suspension of Habeas Corpus and imprisonment of tens of thousands of Northern civilians, the shutting down of hundreds of opposition newspapers in the North, military conscription, the daily execution of deserters (by the Lincoln regime), and the rigging of Northern elections as "civilization." And how odd that anyone would think that the secession of a state (or states), under the correct belief that the union of the founding fathers was a voluntary union, would somehow "destroy" the government in Washington. In fact, the government in Washington grew exponentially after the Southern states seceded, fielding the largest and best-equipped army in world history up to that point.

The obvious purpose of Burns’s The Civil War, as with Lincoln mythology in general, is to spread propaganda that props up state power. Moreover, Burns is apparently unaware that his argument actually makes the case against taxpayer funding of PBS. Specifically, his boast that nearly 40 million people viewed The Civil War proves beyond all doubt that there was no need at all for taxpayer subsidies. What corporate advertisers would not want to place their products before 40 million potential customers?

Burns also perverts the English language when he calls taxpayer subsidies to PBS "a good investment." There is no such thing as "government investment." All government spending is consumption spending, not investment. An investor is someone who puts up his own money, takes a risk, and reaps the profits or suffers the losses from his decisions. No politician or bureaucrat ever puts up his own money, takes on any personal risk whatsoever, or is punished with financial losses for his bad decisions. In fact, his bad decisions are routinely subsidized by taxpayers for decades on end with no negative personal consequences to him.
PBS and National Public Radio (NPR) are state-subsidized government propaganda megaphones. Americans used to criticize totalitarian communists for such practices. Perhaps the mistake the communists made was to not disguise their propaganda with cute little Big Birds and Big Red Dogs.

OCTOBER 8 1862: Invasion of Kentucky

Via Calvin Johnson

Brigadier General Sterling Alexander Martin Wood, in dark uniform and staff . Just before the Battle of Shiloh, Wood's brigade (which consisted of the 16th Alabama, 8th and 9th Arkansas, 27th, 47th, and 55th Tennessee, and the 3rd Mississippi Battalion, all infantry regiments, including an artillery battery) was placed into Hindman's Division, William Hardee's Corps.

At the Battle of Perryville, Kentucky October 8th 1862, Wood
was wounded by  artillery shrapnel while his brigade helped  capture an artillery battery.

================================

OCTOBER 8 1862, Confederate Gen. Braxton Bragg launched an invasion of the key border state of Kentucky hoping to divert Union attention from the Southern strongholds at Vicksburg and Chattanooga, as well as to encourage Bluegrass State volunteers to join the Rebel army.

Though unsuccessful in the last regard, the Kentucky Campaign did draw Federal forces out of northern Alabama and Middle Tennessee, ground it would take the Union almost a year to regain.

The largest engagement fought in Kentucky, the Battle of Perryville was a Confederate tactical victory, though the heavy fighting and bloodshed forced Bragg to retreat into Tennessee.

Real Ambush Video & Comments

Via WRSA

I am posting this video because it illustrates a lot of points. I remember this happening back when I was working in Baghdad, and I saw the after action review at the time. My intent is not to criticize the actions of the team, but to make constructive comments.

Now, I will state here that 'it is not the critic that counts, but the man in the arena with blood on his face'. It is not my intent to criticise the actions of this team, but to use the video to make some constructive training points. It is also my understanding the one of the team members, James Yeager, has his own Internet presence and has been criticized for his actions by moving off the 'X' to the median. However, as I state below, it appears that team cohesive drills were lacking so individuals would have reacted both as that, individuals, and also as per their training and experience. It is hard to criticise:

The Devil’s Laughter

Among the great majority of those [civilians] who scrambled onto ships, boats, tugs, barges, and naval craft sailing west, their flight was safe and successful. Not only was the warmth and food aboard ship a God-send, but the realization that they were at last escaping the dreaded Bolsheviks proved the first peace of mind many had known in weeks. As the wretched survivors of the [ship] could aver, however, there often was no escaping the nightmare… even at sea.
Just before one A.M., two torpedoes slammed into the Stuben’s side. Somewhere the ship was burning and people everywhere jumping into the water. As the Stuben’s stern rose high out the water, hundreds leaped overboard, including some who were torn to pieces by the still-turning propellers. Within seven minutes, the ship plunged beneath the waves, swiftly silencing a final mass scream that seemed to arise from a single voice. Of the 3,500 passengers aboard, only Franz Huber and a few hundred more survived. Tragically, for thousands who successfully traversed the treacherous Baltic, American and British bombers were often the first to greet them when their ships docked.
While the slow, dangerous evacuation of women, children and wounded comrades continued [on the still departing docks at the other side], a German Landser remained in the ever-shrinking pockets, ferociously fighting on so that others might live. That most in the enclaves were already doomed, all fighting men understood. “For every thousand persons embarked, some three thousand more arrived from the east.”
Frantic to escape such carnage, desperate civilians fled across the ice of the Frisches Haff, a bay several miles wide separating the mainland from a barrier island, or Nehrung. Along the slender strip of sand that led west towards Danzing, all were hoping to reach safety. Unfortunately, the bitter cold changed to rain just when many treks set out. Recounted one survivor of the perilous journey: “The ice was breaking and at some places we had to drag ourselves with pains through water nearly a foot deep.” Juergen Thorwald describes the long, nightmarish experience of another refugee:

TSA screener accused of intentionally slapping flier's testicles

Via Don

A frequent flier is speaking out about an incident in which a TSA agent allegedly slapped his testicles as punishment for opting out of the naked body scanner at a Nevada airport.

Steven deForest was flying out of Las Vegas when the incident occurred. "A bulky young TSA agent came over to pat me down," he told the Huffington Post. "He told me to turn around. He was using his command voice, barking orders. I told him that I wasn't comfortable turning away from my luggage, which had already been screened, and wanted to keep it in my sight." According to deForest, the screener knelt down to begin the pat-down procedure before making a shocking move. "As he raised his hands he was looking at me. Then he gave a quick flick and smacked me in one of my testicles," deForest said.

Updated North Carolina Voters Guide

Via Bernhard

This is an updated version of the previously-sent Guide, you will find new additions in italics below.  The NC LS does not endorse candidates but shares information on candidates that reveals the depth of their traditional conservative principles -- important to us as we head to the polls next month.  Please feel free to share this information with your family, friends, and those who are like-thinkers with our political goals and views of conservative politics in the valued tradition of the tight-fisted Nathaniel Macon who well-understood the nature of our government, proper State and federal relations, and what the United States Constitution means and doesn’t mean.

11 October 2012 Update

North Carolina League of the South – 2012 Voter Guide

The following is a partial listing of important Statewide elections to be held in November with candidates information compiled from their statements or past records as incumbents.

The NC LS as a traditionally-conservative organization sees it as imperative that candidates be elected who espouse and actively pursue efforts to govern North Carolina in a manner which holds “North Carolina First,” and steadfastly protecting our culture and past. We also strongly encourage the election of candidates to be our representatives and conduct State-federal relations as intended by the United States Constitution and underscored by the Tenth Amendment.

The NC LS Legislative Committee
POB 328, Wilmington, North Carolina 28403

The primary differences between Democrat and Republican candidates for State office appear to be in the areas of education, abortion and fracking; both seem to follow national party line on other issues.  Little difference is apparent in the area of economic incentives.

The conservative viewpoint on the above is simple: education of our children should be a basic, frugal endeavor and not social experimentation which does not follow parental wishes; killing a child in the womb is murder; and private development interests should not be impeded if their intentions and projects are lawful.

Regarding economic incentives, our State and local governments have no authority to speculate with hard-earned tax dollars. The business climate in our State should be friendly and have simple regulations that attract business, and other than State officials welcoming new companies to North Carolina who offer to employ our citizens, this is incentive enough. The excuse of other States offering incentives and that we must do the same is not the conservative vocabulary.  This is how North Carolinians were drummed into accepting a State lottery – which is a State monopoly on gambling and encourages wasteful spending. Conservatives believe that government does not create jobs, private businesses do.

Should McCrory be elected and a Republican-dominated legislature remain the norm, that party will be exhibiting for all the depth of conservative ideology that they claim to embrace. The NC LS will score elected officials in the future and rate their performance as stewards of the citizens tax dollars and interests.

Governor -

Pat McCrory is by far not the most conservative nominee for governor the Republicans have put up in some time.  That being said he offers a great number of policy solutions that will wittingly or not, promote North Carolina sovereignty.  The first recommendation is that North Carolina nullify Obamacare by an act of the General Assembly with the Governor's support.  The second is McCrory's insistence on passing a Voter ID Bill that will allow us to police our own elections and not the federal Justice Department.  Lastly is McCrory's willingness to push for offshore drilling which will give North Carolina access to essential energy sources that will make us less dependent on others and especially DC for our survival.  Democrat Walter Dalton has been a quiet Lt. Governor with little to recommend him to the position of governor.

Lt. Governor -

Dan Forest is by far the greatest source of hope for liberty lovers and those desiring a strong North Carolina.  He is an ardent Tea Party conservative and very well schooled on the 10th Amendment.  He promises to push for nullification of unconstitutional federal policies and to combat the Third World invasion by battling illegal immigration via implementation of the 287g program in all 100 counties.  Of all the Council of State candidates he is the best hope for the future if he wins this election.

Secretary of State -

Ed Goodwin is a solid conservative running against perhaps the most left-wing member of the Council of State, Elaine Marshall.  The incumbent, Marshall, has steadily opposed a voter ID law in North Carolina and asserts that there is no voter fraud occurring in our State; Goodwin is a true citizen patriot and a 5th generation farmer from Edenton.

North Carolina Treasurer -

Steve Royal is right up with Dan Forest in terms of his devotion to liberty and his opposition to the status quo.  Unfortunately he has been all but written off by the NCGOP for both his views and his inability to raise funds.  According to Royal, the State GOP has all but endorsed his Democratic opponent and turned a blind eye to his requests for campaign funding, a clear indication that he is too conservative for the liberals in the NC GOP. He needs our help as much as anyone to end the risky management of our State's pension funds in the stock market.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner –

Farmer and former insurance salesman Mike Causey of Guilford County is challenging incumbent Democrat Wayne Goodwin of Stanly County to lead the State’s insurance department.  Causey as a private citizen successfully lobbied the State legislature to make it easier for customers to get their vehicles repaired at shops they choose. This helped smaller repair shops compete against larger repair chains favored by underwriters. Goodwin has received praise from conservative organizations in the past.

North Carolina Supreme Court -

Next to the presidential and gubernatorial contest this is the most importance race in North Carolina.  Justice Paul Newby is running for another term on the court at a time when it is a 5-4 conservative balance.  Were Newby to lose then we would see most sovereignty and 10th Amendment issues being argued before a left wing court.  This race deserves our utmost effort.

US Congressional District 3 -

Walter Jones is in the same league as Ron Paul in his devotion to the Constitution and his willingness to buck the traditional party mold.  An ardent foe of foreign adventurism, abortion, illegal immigration, and free trade, Rep. Jones is perhaps the best Congressional candidate in the state.

US Congressional District 7 -

Republican challenger David Rouzer opposes longtime Democrat Mike McIntyre in this race, the latter patterns himself as a conservative Democrat but expectedly demonstrates clear support for Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi.  While no deeply-ingrained conservatism of the Nathaniel Macon variety seems to flow in Mr. Rouzer’s veins, unseating a liberal Democrat in North Carolina may be worth holding our noses.

US Congressional District 11 -

Mark Meadows is a patriot in the same mold as our Founders.  A devoted Christian and ardent constitutionalist, Mark is like Walter Jones in the sense that he is willing to buck the traditional Republican tenets if they violate his conservative principles.

NC Senate District 8 -

First-term Republican incumbent Bill Rabun faces political newcomer and Marine veteran Danny Hefner, a Democrat. Hefner states that Rabun has not done enough to create jobs in Brunswick County, and wants to reverse the education cuts made by the Republican-controlled legislature.  The Civitas 2011 Conservative Effectiveness Rating gave Rabun an “A” rating.  Of recent note, Rabun has refused to endorse fellow Republican David Rouzer (above), claiming that the “ugly campaigning” concerns him.

NC Senate District 9 -

Thom Goolsby is the incumbent Republican and challenged by Republican Deb Butler. Senator Goolsby opposes illegal immigration, and supports reduction of the gas tax, charter schools and homeschooling efforts. Democrat Deb Butler has received the endorsement of the NC teachers union, National Organization of Women, Pro-Choice America, and Equality America.  An admitted lesbian, Butler opposed Amendment One and receives campaign donations from the gay and lesbian Victory Fund.

Goolsby’s only blemish in office has been voting to pardon impeached Radical Republican Governor William W. Holden in 1870, and overlooking Holden’s corrupt regime which defrauded North Carolina citizens.

NC Senate District 13 -

Michael Waters was appointed to the NC Senate to represent Columbus and Robeson counties by Governor Perdue in 2009, then elected one year later. He has been endorsed by the North Carolina Educators Association, National Federation of Small Business, and State Employees Association. Waters is opposed by Republican W. Bernhard White of Whiteville, a free market advocate who wants anti-union “right to work” language written into the North Carolina constitution. White appears to be the conservative candidate in this race.

NC Senate District 19 -

Republican incumbent Wesley Meredith faces Democrat George Tatum in District 19 which encompasses eastern Cumberland county and parts of Fayetteville and Hope Mills. A stubbornly-high unemployment rate is a large issue which Meredith feels will be allayed by policies of tax cuts and reduced regulation favorable to small businesses. Tatum criticizes the Republican legislature for cutting education, feeling that education encourages companies to locate in North Carolina. Meredith supports the current right to work status of North Carolina, Tatum feels that workers have a right to a quality of life after a hard day’s work, suggesting he is pro-labor union. This is a Democrat-leaning district and Meredith is considered vulnerable.

NC Senate District 30 -

This race is a renewal of the 2010 race with incumbent Republican Don East facing challenger Ric Marshall, a Democrat. Redistricting has left the District with Surry, Stokes and Wilkes Counties, moving Allegany and Yadkin out, and favoring Republicans.  Marshall opposes fracking, pro-abortion, and feels more money should be spent on education in the State; East supports fracking, is anti-abortion, and has stated that “I don’t believe a dollar bill has ever taught a child anything.” Marshall believes that as a legislator, he can lure jobs to the State; East indicates that he supports economic incentives since other States are committed to luring companies with tax monies.

NC Senate District 34 -

Senator Andrew Brock is a solid patriot who is a staunch supporter of our State's Christian and conservative traditions.  He is also seriously devoted to reducing federal interference in North Carolinian's daily lives.

NC Senate District 38 -

Richard Rivette is a liberty candidate in the mold of the Tea Party and Ron Paul.  With Glen Bradley's defeat in his Senate primary, Mr. Rivette is probably the best chance for electing a true liberty candidate to the NC Senate.

NC House 3 -

Beaufort county commissioner and Democrat Robert Cayton states that “education, transportation [and] economic development” are issues directly affecting the future of rural North Carolina. This district is comprised of Pamlico, much of Beaufort, and the eastern half of Craven counties. His challenger is Illinois-native, former Marine and Republican Michael Speciale who has won distinction as an advocate for eastern several North Carolina Tea Party groups. He is a founder of the Coastal Carolina Taxpayers Association which fights for lower taxation, and feels that the federal government has no constitutional  authority over education.

NC House 6 -

The 2011 State legislature created this new district which has Dare County Democrat Paul Tine opposing Dare County Republican Mattie Lawson.  Tine supports the heavily-subsidized State ferry system and heads a nonprofit organization funded with Golden Leaf Foundation and federal stimulus money.  Lawson helped found the Tea Party of the Outer Banks, supports “limited government, lower taxes, and the founding principles.”

NC House 14 -

George Cleveland is one of the most conservative members of the Republican caucus.  He is a very passionate opponent of illegal immigration in our State and a fierce proponent of State sovereignty measures.

NC House 18 -

Since our previous Guide, Republican Louis R. Harmati has reversed his conservative position against film company incentives and now states that they are needed to reduce unemployment. There now appears to be little if any difference between the two candidates. Harmati is challenging incumbent Democrat Susi Hamilton, the latter being a film industry incentives booster and has earned top rating and support from the NAACP.  She has recently come under fire publicly for supporting film industry incentives and renting her personal property to film companies receiving State assistance. No conservative candidate is apparent in this race.

NC House 19 -
Republican Rep. Danny McComas has resigned and former New Hanover county commissioner Ted Davis has been appointed for the remainder of his term. Republican Davis is contending for the seat against Democrat Emilie Swearingen.  The Democrat candidate will fight the Republican reform of education, and “promotes easy access to health care, child care, education, birth control, equal pay for women, and keep government out of our personal lives.”  Davis recently voted for his county to accept a birth control grant from the State.

NC House 20 -

This is a newly-formed district and the result of redistricting by the Republican-dominated legislature. Current New Hanover county commissioner Rick Catlin is an environmental engineer running against Democrat Tom Gale.  Catlin’s publicly-stated positions include repealing Obamacare, maintaining capital punishment and he supported Amendment One.

NC House 35 -

This Wake County contest between current school board member and Republican Chris Malone, and former school board member (2005-2009) and Democrat Lori Millberg. Both candidates have cited education and employment as voters foremost concerns, with Malone noting that the growth of government is troubling. Millberg has stated that “We’re on the brink of a recovery,” but “education cuts made by Republican lawmaker have exacerbated unemployment.” Malone supports lifting the cap on charter schools and encouraging local school innovation.

NC House 45 -

Political newcomer and Democrat Eddie Dees, educator and former mayor of Hope Mills in Cumberland County, has received the endorsement of the North Carolina Educators Association-PAC.  He is opposed by Republican John David Szoka who opposes Obamacare, feels that lowering taxes will create a favorable employment environment, and has earned a “B+” grade from the NRA.  Of note to conservatives, Szoka refused to answer issue questions from Project Vote Smart’s Political Courage Test.

NC House 58 -

Redistricting has made this district more country and less city, removing a large chunk of Guilford county and adding parts of western and northwestern Greensboro. Veteran incumbent Alma Adams faces Republican challenger Olga Morgan Wright in this race.  Wright has not mounted a serious intellectual challenge to Adams tenure but feels that she will do more for education in North Carolina, claiming that our current system is archaic.  Neither candidate seems to have conservative ideals or credentials.

NC House 65 -

Bert Jones is only a recent convert to the GOP, having won his seat as an independent.  As such, he presents himself as very conservative and an outside-the-box thinker in approaches to both State and federal issues.

NC House 74 -

This open seat has Democrat David Wayne Moore running for his first public office against Republican Debra Conrad, a Forsyth County commissioner for 18 years.  Conrad claims to have a conservative record, though her past support of economic incentives (speculating with tax dollars) to lure businesses contradicts this.  Moore has a full load of personal bankruptcy, domestic violence protective orders, and past-due child support issues to explain.

NC House 79 -

Incumbent Republican Julia Howard faces former teacher and Democrat Christina Vasquez, who cites voter concerns about too little money being spent on education in North Carolina.  Vasquez moved to NC from a union State and believes teachers elsewhere “had more rights and protection than they do here.”  Howard supports fracking, Vasquez opposes this due to concerns about the environment.  Howard holds an anti-abortion position while Vasquez believes it is a federal question.  Vasquez is vague on the question of economic incentives; Howard supports North Carolina competing with other States to lure business though tax breaks.

NC House 85 -

Mitch Gillespie is a staunch conservative and major proponent of energy development in North Carolina.  He has led the fight to remove unnecessary regulations from the books in State government and is in a key position of leadership in the GOP caucus.

NC House 87 -

Edgar Starnes is probably the last true paleo-conservative in the NC House.  He is a frequent sponsor of the important Monument Protection Act which preserves North Carolina heritage and culture, and hangs a picture of Mississippi Senator and American President Jefferson Davis on the wall of his Raleigh office.

NC Supreme Court Non-Partisan Race

If one votes straight party ticket they will not have voted in this race which is near the end of the long ballot.
The two candidates are incumbent North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Paul Newby, a Republican, but not listed as such.  He is challenged by North Carolina Court of Appeals Judge Sam Ervin, IV, a Democrat, but not listed as such, and grandson of Senator Sam Ervin.
Currently the Republicans have a 4-3 majority on the State Supreme Court. If Ervin wins, it will switch to a 4-3 Democrat-majority which can undo all the Republican legislature has passed during this last term. This would include the recent legislative redistricting.
Though polls show a likely McCrory win as well as a likely Republican State House and Senate, they would lose the State Supreme Court should Ervin win. With at least 5 pending legislative reform lawsuits from this term, expect many more with a Democrat-majority court.

North Carolina Libertarian Candidates for Office:

Our recommendation when both Republican and Democrat candidates appear equally opposed to traditional-conservative State governance is to strongly consider voting for a Libertarian candidate.  While the LP may not mesh perfectly with the ideals and goals of traditional-conservatism, the Libertarian will be far more resistant to federal encroachment into our personal lives and State affairs.

Additionally, a general rule of thumb is to vote against any candidates endorsed by the Charlotte Observer, Raleigh News and Observer, and Wilmington Star News.
