N.C. House approves loosening gun laws

The Daily Southerner — RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — People who are being victimized by a carjacker or home-invader, or who think they can save a life, can use deadly force under an expansion of North Carolina gun laws tentatively approved by the state House on Tuesday.

The House voted 77-38 for legislation that puts the burden of proof on prosecutors if there’s a question whether a person was justified in firing at an intruder entering homes, cars or workplaces. A final House vote is expected Wednesday, followed by consideration in the Senate.

Current law says people have no duty to retreat inside their homes prior to using deadly force against someone trying to break in if they reasonably believe the intruder may try to kill or seriously injure them or someone else. But the legal standard means the shooter may have to justify using the weapon after the fact.

The new legislation presumes firing a weapon during these situations was proper, and would apply that beyond a home to potential victims of carjackings and business break-ins. A district attorney could try to prove otherwise in court. The shooter also would be immune from civil liability.

So I'm about halfway through the second book of Livy, and am really starting to grok just how different the early Romans are from the silk-covered brats stumbling out of the vomitorium we're shown in popular images of the Empire.
No, this is the early Rome.
To set the stage - they've just said "enough of this 'king' horsepuckey," kicked out their king, and set up a Republic.
Said king goes and shacks up with some of the city's old enemies, and eventually said old enemies and their king come knocking at the Romans' door to make them proper royal subjects again. Bad example for the neighborhood, you see.
Now, the royals get spanked trying to take the city, but are too powerful to be driven off entirely. Stalemate. So they settle in for a siege, hostages are taken, and negotiations ensue.
Enter The Kid.

TSA Torments Special Needs Man at Detroit Airport

Via California Tree of Liberty

Drew is severely mentally disabled, yet he was singled out for abuse from TSA
The family was going through security when two TSA agents singled Drew Mandy out for a special pat down. Drew is severely mentally disabled. He's 29, but his parents said he has the mental capacity of a two-year-old, which made the experience that followed at metro Detroit's McNamera Terminal that much harder to deal with.

You see, the TSA was horrified that this young man was carrying his two favorite toys with him that he takes everywhere - a 6-inch plastic hammer and a baseball. The hammer was singled out as a ......... yes ...... a weapon. The TSA proceeded to take his plastic hammer and grope his private parts, wherein they proceeded to question the young man's adult diapers, even as they could clearly assess this man's mental capabilities.

The young man's father, Dr. David Mandy, was very upset about the whole incident, yet he still reinforced the perception that Americans just can't seem to get over. He said, "I realize they're trying to keep people safe, but come on, does he look like a terrorist?" It boggles my mind that some of the worst victims of government terrorism still can't get past the propaganda and recognize why the federal government has institutionalized violence and fear on such a massive scale. No Dr. Mandy, this has nothing to do with "keeping people safe." It has everything to do with keeping people under control and in perpetual fear.

Attempting the Impossible Again, General Bryan Grimes at Appomattox:

“On Saturday, April 8, the weary and hungry men continued their march westward. “No enemy appeared,” wrote [General Bryan] Grimes in his report of the campaign, “and we marched undisturbed all day.” The sun bathed the Virginia countryside in warmth and light, and the spirits of the men improved somewhat, even if the strategic position remained grim. It was obvious to everyone that Federal infantry was closely pursuing them while strong legions of cavalry were riding west and south on a parallel course to get ahead of the Army of Northern Virginia. If the army was cut off and unable to turn south, a junction with Joe Johnston’s army would be impossible.

“Up to this time, since the evacuation of Petersburg,” Grimes explained, “we had marched all day and night, continually followed and harassed by the enemy.” As a soldier in Grime’s Division recalled the experience, “we just marched on, the ranks growing thinner and thinner, as the men would fall out exhausted.” Following in the rear of [General John B.] Gordon’s Second Corps, Grimes camped his men a couple miles behind near a small stream.

Their slumber was almost immediately disturbed when artillery fire opened in the distance about 9PM. Grimes roused his men and ordered them to move out once more. The march consumed both their strength and the night hours. Before daylight the division was still fitfully moving forward through the quiet streets of Appomattox Court house. Just on the far side of the village, recalled Grimes, “I found the enemy in my front.” The sun on Palm Sunday, April 9, was just beginning to emerge over the horizon when Grime’s rode forward to make his dispositions.

Grime’s directed the remnants of [General] Bushrod Johnson’s Division to attack the Federals on their left flank, while his own skirmishers charged their center. The line would be advancing against a fresh stand of earthworks and a battery of artillery. “I then gave the signal to advance,” recalled Grimes, at the same time [General] Fitz Lee charged…Grimes’ infantry quickly captured the line of breastworks “without much loss,” together with several pieces of artillery. His division was moved forward to support the skirmish line…”driving the enemy in confusion for three-quarters of a mile.”

Grime’s stopped the advance…[and] sent a message to Gordon that “the Lynchburg road was open for the escape of the wagons,” and awaited orders. The directive he received was completely unexpected: Grimes was to withdraw his command immediately. “This I declined to do,” wrote Grimes, “supposing that General Gordon did not understand the commanding position my troops occupied.” Gordon, however, “continued to send me order after order to the same effect, which I still disregarded, being under the impression that he did not comprehend our favorable location.” An exasperated Gordon sent another withdrawal order accompanied this time with an order from General Lee, “to fall back.” A dejected and confused Grimes now had no choice but to obey. “The first traces of dawn colored the eastern sky at 5:20AM on Friday, March 10, 1865. [General Wade] Hampton and his Southern horse soldiers stood poised for the attack. “Follow me men,” cried Hampton, his voice ringing out for all to hear. “Charge!”

“In a moment the cavalrymen were dashing with a magnificent Confederate yell through [Northern General] Kilpatrick’s camp.” One of the legion’s officer’s recalled that we “fell upon the camp like a small avalanche.” The surprise was overwhelming. “Our Brigade swept out everything clean,” recalled Col. J. Fred Waring, the commander of the Jeff Davis Legion Cavalry of Wright’s Brigade. “Great numbers of the men were sobered while rising from their blankets,” recalled [a Northern soldier].

Trooper Posey Hamilton of Hagan’s Alabama Brigade thought he knew which tent [General Judson] Kilpatrick was in, so he and his friends were determined to nab the unsuspecting Federal commander in his bed…[though] Kilpatrick was in the Monroe House.

General [Robert H.] Anderson’s troopers managed to find a narrow trail through the swamp, but they had to squeeze together to make it across. The horsemen from his 5th Georgia Cavalry approached so stealthily that none of the sleeping Federals stirred until “one of the couriers (following the General) put the point of his saber through the blanket of one of the sleeping guards, who started up, and, by his outcry, woke the sleepers.” Anderson headed toward the Monroe house [and] in spite of the Federals fighting on foot with repeating carbines, the 5th [Georgia], mounted and using pistols only, broke them and after a brief scrimmage they fled.” Kilpatrick’s bugler was seized just as he was bringing his horn to his lips. He never got the chance to warn the rest of the camp.

“The Yankee camp looked like a cyclone had struck it all at once,” recalled trooper Posey Hamilton. “Their blankets were flying in the air, and then men were running about in every direction…while the men from the big tent were legging and heeling it down the hill to beat the band. If this was not a stampede on foot, then I never saw one.”

Open letter to Herman Cain on the right to keep and bear arms

Cain: Will gun owners eat up what he's selling?

1. Do you believe that the Constitution is the "supreme law of the land" and that the Bill of Rights acknowledges our birthrights?

2. If so, should these rights be proactively protected from infringement by all levels of government, including city, county and state?

3. Please give some examples of gun laws you consider constitutional.

4. Please give some examples of gun laws you consider unconstitutional.

5. Does the right to bear arms include the right for any peaceable citizen to carry them concealed without a permit, as in Vermont?

6. Do you believe that Americans have a right to own, use and carry weapons of military pattern, and will you use the prestige of elected office to publicly promote that right?

7. Do you support or oppose registration of weapons? Why?

8. Do you support or oppose licensing requirements to own or carry firearms? Why?

9. What specific gun laws will you work to get repealed?

10. If elected, will you back your words of support for firearms rights up with consistent actions? How?

SUMMER OF THE GHETTO THUG FLASH MOB!

ATTACKING A TOWN NEAR YOU SOON!

You want the truth? Can you handle the truth? American cities are under siege from hordes of rampaging, young, black ghetto thugs. That statement is not politically correct. You won’t hear that on the news. You won’t hear politicians saying it. But that is the truth. America is under siege from hordes of rampaging, young, black ghetto thugs. Not white hordes, nor Asian hordes, not Amish nor Jewish….ghetto blacks! It is a problem decent people of all colors suffer. Is America ready for an open, honest debate on what to do about the problem?

This scourge has come into focus, but has not been very clearly defined, since Drudge Report listed the numerous attacks, fights, riots and killings caused by black ghetto youth that took place over the Memorial Day weekend a few weeks ago. The cities of Miami, Charlotte, Myrtle Beach, Nashville, Birmingham, Boston and Chicago all suffered from violent riots involving out of control black kids. Since then, it’s almost a daily norm that somewhere in America a flash mob of young black thugs will steal from a store or beat, rob, or kill an innocent person (usually white). So far, every one of these mobs has consisted of young, black ghetto thugs. Yet, the PC propaganda media never discusses, nor even mentions, the race of the culprits. However, the word “urban” has become the unintended synonym of “ghetto black” in the mainstream media.

Why will very few openly discuss the 800 pound gorilla in the room of ghetto black violence? It is because any criticism of black people in America immediately is labeled as racism. And, in PC America, a racist is the worst thing one can be. Even worse than a murderer or child molester. Child molester and film director Roman Polanski is a hero of the left yet Mel Gibson’s career is over because he used the N word. Every time AWD writes about the epidemic of crime caused by ghetto black America, I am predictably dismissed by blacks or liberals as being “racist, redneck, in-bred trailer trash” with the points of my article never discussed or even taken into consideration. A white person in America must either endorse or ignore the ubiquitous violent behavior of ghetto black thugs or be ridiculed. I refuse to have my voice and opinions limited by those whose ideology and culture I do not respect.

Triple-barrelled cannon found in Croatian fort is 'machine gun' forerunner designed by Da Vinci

Via Sipsey Street Irregulars

Invention: The multi-barrelled machine gun was a weapon with remarkable firepower. Da Vinci sketched this rolling artillery battery around 1480

When an ancient three-barrelled cannon was discovered by schoolchildren, museum officials would have known they had stumbled on a rare find.

But now, 40 years after the discovery of the unique weapon, they have learned just how important it is - the gun is a prototype designed by Leonardo Da Vinci himself.

The cannon was discovered in a Croatian fort, but only now has it been confirmed it was designed more than 500 years ago by the artist and inventor.

Da Vinci was famous for his weapons of war which were hugely in demand among the rival factions in the northern Italian cities.

He was the first to invent a breech-loading machine gun with several cannons in rotation which meant soldiers could be firing one, loading another and cooling the third.

The triple-barrel cannon, apparently one of his less successful designs, had been dumped in the Klicevica border fortress near the southern town of Benkovac.

A group of schoolchildren discovered it and told museum officials in the town - but its 15th century origin remained a mystery until today.

The original Da Vinci designs are regarded as forerunners for the modern machine gun. Until now the only Da Vinci cannons on display in Italy have been replicas.

"Pick an issue – trade, immigration, terrorism, marriage, education. In just about every case, the left has staked out a revolutionary program that means the continuing destruction of our traditions and the erosion of our liberties. What is offered by conservatives? A little less of the same, a little easing off the accelerator lest we get to Hell ahead of schedule. They don’t want same-sex marriages, only civil unions; they don’t want to repatriate immigrants who commit crimes or go on welfare, but they are willing to beef up the border a little; they are even unwilling to even consider dismantling the disastrous experiment in government education, but they would like to give parents the right to decide which expensive ignorance-factory to send their kids to." --Thomas Fleming

"It is equally surprising that the police did not shoot themselves"
this is not going to end well:

We’re rapidly heading for a world in which the whole wolves/sheep/sheepdogs = bad guys/innocents/good guys paradigm breaks down.

Instead, cops are properly now seen by civilians as threats. They have the capacity to kill you, and sometimes do. Threat does not = sheepdog. Threat = wolf.

While it is taking every ounce of self-control to limit myself to the following comment, let me just say this: I guess our country had a good run, but welcome to the police state. When an apparently law-abiding citizen and veteran can be gunned down in his own home for owning legal property and being unfortunately related to a family of allegedly law-breaking pikers, this "America" experiment of ours is well and truly over.
