Now That Hasan Trial Is Over, Texas Lawmakers Revive Push to Designate Shooting as Terrorism

Via LH

http://pjmedia.com/tatler/files/2013/09/FortHoodpresser.jpg

A trio of Texas Republicans announced legislation this week to declare that the Fort Hood shooting was an act of terrorism, award the victims Purple Hearts, and make the victims and families eligible for special benefits similar to those offered to 9/11 victims.

It’s not the first congressional effort to get such recognition for victims of the 2009 attack, but it’s the first since Nidal Hasan was found guilty and sentenced to death for the massacre.

The Obama administration claimed it couldn’t change the designation from “workplace violence” because Hasan’s trial was still ongoing. Now that trial is over.

“We are a nation at war, and the location in which our men and women in uniform come under hostile fire from a terrorist should not unduly prejudice them and their families from receiving the full honors, recognition and benefits associated with their courageous service,” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas).  “As a nation, we have a sacred obligation to take care of them.”

“Justice was served when Nidal Hasan was found guilty and handed the death penalty. But justice has not been served for the victims of this horrific shooting. This legislation will ensure the victims of this obvious act of terrorism receive the benefits they not only need, but justly deserve,” Rep. John Carter (R-Texas) said.“We cannot continue allowing the Obama Administration to turn its back on these men and women by failing to admit this was indeed a terrorist attack on American soil. If the administration had properly labeled and managed the Fort Hood shooting from the beginning, this legislation would not be required.”

Florida family finds $300,000 in sunken treasure

A Schmitt family photo shows gold chains and coins from a wreckage of a convoy of 11 ships that went down in a hurricane off the coast of Florida

Rick and Lisa Schmitt have been hunting sunken treasure for years with their family. Their recent haul from a historic wreck was a record setter for them.

A Florida family who spends their time together hunting for treasure struck it rich over the weekend, hauling up an estimated $300,000 worth of gold from a historic wreckage in the Atlantic Ocean.

"What's really neat about them is they are a family, they spend family time together out there and the most amazing part about them is they always believed this day would come," said Brent Brisben, whose company, 1715 Fleet - Queens Jewels LLC, owns the rights to the wreckage.

Calls to Congress 244 to 1 against Syria war

The people revolt: Americans tell lawmakers 'no' to military action

Congress may or may not approve a military strike on Syria, but it looks like the American public overwhelmingly disapproves by a margin of more than 200 to 1.

A national debate is raging on Twitter. Tweets and statements from members of Congress both Democrat and Republican show tremendously strong opposition to President Obama’s call for an air strike on Syria:

Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash., tweeted, “Calls and emails from my constituents is 100 to 1 AGAINST getting involved in Syria. The American people are speaking.”

Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., said 99 percent of the calls his office oppose an attack. (This one is very telling. BT)

KS - Homeowner Fatally Shoots Man Who Breaks Into House During Police Chase

A Kansas City, North man awoke abruptly early Wednesday when he heard two loud bangs in his garage, directly beneath his bedroom.
He grabbed his shotgun, ran down the stairs and opened the door to the garage to investigate while his wife and 18-month-old baby stayed upstairs, according to neighbors and police.

He came face to face with a stranger, who apparently had kicked his way through a pedestrian door into the garage in the 9000 block of North Garfield Avenue. The intruder lunged at him while holding a screwdriver and set of pliers.

The men fought over the shotgun and ended up grappling on the kitchen floor. At one point, the stranger pinned the homeowner on his back and tugged at the shotgun. But the homeowner wouldn’t let go.

The stranger then told the homeowner, “I need your car. The police are after me!”

The stranger grabbed keys from the kitchen counter, ran into the garage and got into a vehicle. When the stranger reached into his pocket, the homeowner feared he was pulling a gun. The homeowner fired twice, killing the man in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. The driver’s door remained open.

LeFigaro Interviews President Assad

Via LH

obama-assad-192799

LE FIGARO - Can you prove to us that your army did not use chemical weapons on 21 August in the Damascus suburb, during attacks that killed more than a thousand people, as you are accused of by Barack Obama and Francois Hollande?

Bachar el-Assad - It is for those who are making the accusations to provide the proof. We have challenged the United States and France to put forward a single proof. Obama and Hollande have been unable to do so, even to their own people. (…)? I’m not at all suggesting that the Syrian army does or does not possess such weapons. Let’s suppose that our army wishes to use WMD: is it really going to do so in an area where it is actually present and where soldiers have been wounded by these weapons, as the UN inspectors found during their visit to the hospital where they were being treated? Where is the logic in that?

What would your response be in case of military strikes against Syria?

The Middle East is a powder keg, and today the flame is coming very near. We cannot talk merely about the Syrian response, but about what might take place after the first strike. But nobody knows what will happen. Everyone will lose control of the situation when the powder keg explodes. Chaos and extremism will spread. There is a risk of regional war.

Has France become an enemy of Syria?

Whoever contributes to the terrorist’s financial or military strengthening is the enemy of the Syrian people. Whoever works against the interests of Syria and its’ citizens is an enemy. The French people is not our enemy, but the policy of its’ state is hostile to the Syrian people. To the extent that the policy of the French state is hostile to the Syrian people, this state will be its’ enemy. This hostility will end when the French state will change policy. There will be repercussions, negative off course, for the French interests.

Michigan State investigates professor who tells students Republicans 'raped this country'

Michigan State University is investigating one of its professors after a video surfaced showing him accusing Republicans of racism and raping America.

Campusreform.org, an online news organization part of the conservative Leadership Institute, posted the video on Tuesday, claiming to have received it from a student in the classroom.

In the video, MSU professor William Penn berates Republicans in front of his Intro to Fiction Writing lecture-hall class on Thursday.

"If you go to the Republican convention in Florida, you see all the old Republicans with dead skin cells washing off them," Penn says in the video. "They're cheap. They don't want to pay taxes because they have already raped this country and gotten everything out of it they possibly could.

"€œThey don't want to pay for your tuition because who are you? Well, to me you're somebody."

Penn then interacts with a student seated near the front of the classroom who apparently disagreed with the professor's politics.

"You can frown if you want," Penn says, motioning toward the student. "You look like you're frowning. Are you frowning?"

Chicago Police: If You Carry a Gun, We're Trained to Shoot You

garry mcarthy chicago police superintendent predicts gun carrying citizens will be shot
I think it ought to add a few more stars, then he'll really have power.......

Illinois recently enacted a concealed carry law, albeit a very restrictive one. The Chicago Police Superintendent isn’t too happy with it. He thinks that more guns equals more crime. He also warned that the new law will create more incidents of cop-on-civilian shootings. He made his warning known in a radio interview: '
“You put more guns on the street expect more shootings. I don’t care if they’re licensed legal firearms, people who are not highly trained… putting guns in their hands is a recipe for disaster. So I’ll train our officers that there is a concealed carry law, but when somebody turns with a firearm in their hand the officer does not have an obligation to wait to get shot to return fire and we’re going to have tragedies as a result of that. I’m telling you right up front.”
He acknowledged that unfortunately there are many cases of police shooting innocent and unarmed citizens, but having concealed carriers around will only make that problem worse.

'Obama's Presidential Library' is an outhouse

Some comments:)

“That’s an insult to the outhouse.”

“I think for Obama it should be a two-story outhouse.”

“It’s no wonder Obama’s library is so small, it only consists of one book … the Communist Manifesto!”

“I think two books. The other is the Koran.”

'I'm not even certain he even deserves that level of respect'

Syria will Lead to World War III and it will be Nuclear-Paul Craig Roberts

Via comment by Anonymous on Let’s Join One Another to Crush the Unholy, Unruly,Muslims

Former Assistant Treasury Secretary Dr. Paul Craig Roberts says, “Let’s cut to the chase.  It’s got nothing to do with Syria.  The reason they are looking for a fabricated excuse to attack Assad is to continue the radicalization of Muslims in the hopes this spreads into the Muslim populations of Russia and China. . . .

Washington intends to weaken the two giants it cannot run over.”  Dr. Roberts goes on to warn, “I think this will lead to World War III, and that, of course, will be nuclear.”  One big dilemma Dr. Roberts points out, “The issue is will any aspect of the government have any credibility if they back Obama when the rest of the world already knows he’s lying through his teeth? . . .

This time the big lie didn’t work like it did in Iraq.”

NC: Conservative student group at University of North Carolina claims political bias robbed it of funding

Conservatives at the University of North Carolina say the Tar Heel student government plays favorites when it comes to doling out budgets to campus groups, and they rank somewhere below self-professed anarchists.

The College Republicans of the school's Chapel Hill campus say their request for $8,000 to fund guest speakers Townhall.com editor and Fox News Contributor Katie Pavlich and filmmaker Ann McElhinney got chopped to just $3,000 because the Student Congress doesn't share their politics. And the GOP students note that the governing body had no trouble finding $3,000 for self-professed anarchist group UNControllables, and even more for a hard-core feminist group.

 taped shut

I’ve always been uncomfortable with the talk of going to war. It’s not that I believe that if you just hug everyone no one will fight anymore. I have just never understood the politics of it and I can’t have much of an opinion or argue about something if I don’t understand it.

It’s easily clear to me when something happens like when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. An obvious attack on us and we had to defend ourselves. When September 11 happened, this was another obvious attack on us and we absolutely needed to do something. Where it was confusing to me was do we attack another country or a group of people or what exactly? And where? I didn’t have a personal opinion either way because I just felt I didn’t know enough. I asked friends and trusted others their feelings and thought about their responses. It still didn’t clarify it for me. Nothing was cut and dried, black and white.

By now you know I don’t trust our government.

In a possible first and under heavy security, KKK and NAACP meet in Casper

 Klan - NAACP Meeting

They didn’t think he would come.

He was a Ku Klux Klan organizer, after all, and they were local leaders of the NAACP, historic enemies. They spent months negotiating the terms of his visit to Casper. There were ground rules, topics to be discussed and guarantees of a security team.

They wait in a small, low-ceiling conference room in the Parkway Plaza hotel. Four NAACP leaders. Ten mints, striped red and white, sit clustered on the table. The pitchers of ice water on the table drip sweat.

“Showtime,” a security man says. He’s here.

A security check, swipes with a metal-detecting wand, and he steps into the room.

Here is John Abarr, an organizer for the United Klans of America, carrying a brown briefcase, shaking hands, settling into a high-backed swivel chair, leaning in, ready to talk. This could be the first time representatives of the two groups purposely met in peace.

Keisha Simmons, the secretary of the Casper branch of the NAACP, pours the Klansman a plastic foam cup of water.

A security man locks the wooden conference room door.

What attack on Syria will mean

 http://auroramediagrp.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/asuplads/Britain-Syria_Perr-300x250.jpg

If Barack Obama leads America into a war with Syria, there’s something everyone needs to know about this mission that hardly anyone is articulating.

This war will not just be with a Syrian regime clinging tenuously to power. It will be a proxy war against Iran.
If it were not for support from Iran, Bashar Assad would probably be out of power already. It would not even be an exaggeration to suggest Syria has become a client state of Iran, as has neighbor Lebanon. Think of Hezbollah as Iran’s terrorist foreign legion. It maybe represent the most significant military power in Syria and Lebanon.

Last week, Iranian officials said if the U.S. launches missile attacks on Assad’s forces (meaning their own), Tehran would respond with missile attacks of its own – on Israel.

This may be a bluff, but it may not be.

I don’t think that comes as a surprise to U.S. war strategists – not at all.

Let me explain the real war behind the war.

Heckle this! Kerry gets taste of own medicine

Kerry And His Mystical Khmer Dau (Rouge)

A lying SOS, words with no proof

It may have been a strange moment of déjà vu for John Kerry Tuesday, interrupted by an anti-war protester while he testified before a Senate committee and made a case for military action.

In 1971, Kerry famously testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee as an anti-war protester and as a member of Vietnam Veterans Against the War.

Ironically, he testified Tuesday before the same committee as Secretary of State, but this time, to make a case for a military strike against a country with which the U.S. is not at war.

In 1971, Kerry insisted “there is nothing in South Vietnam which could happen that realistically threatens the United States of America.”

Tuesday, he tried to make the case that attacking the regime of President Bashar al-Assad in the middle of a Syrian civil war is in the U.S. vital national interest.

As the anti-war protester was removed from the hearing room after screaming “We don’t want another war,” Kerry took a moment to say “when I was 27 years old, I had feelings very similar to that protester.”

A full year before students around the nation submit to the new Common Core standardized tests, the federally-backed program is already causing chaos and confusion at local school board meetings, in the classroom and at the dinner table.

As critics fear Washington is poised to take control of what and how local districts teach kids, school administrators are adopting new curriculum in an effort to ensure their students outperform their peers and parents worry that their children are being used as academic guinea pigs. As the program gets closer to full implementation, a full-blown backlash is developing despite assurances from supporters that it is merely a test aimed at establishing a national standard.
“Common Core is forcing districts to re-think math curriculum. And in cases like ours, they are making poor decisions.”
- Kelly Crisp, parent from Fairfield, Conn.

“It’s just now reaching their school districts and their children’s schools and they want to know, ‘What is this, and why is it being forced on us?’” said the Cato Institute’s Neil McCluskey.

Generating and Managing Intelligence Requirements

 ireq

Before we get into today’s post, I’d like to explain that I was recently turned away from a business because I was carrying a holstered firearm.  If you live in a state that protects your right to open and concealed carry, I’d just ask that you support the businesses that recognize your right, and publicize to your friends and family the businesses that deny you the opportunity to exercise that right.
ALSO: The Knoxville ICAC has a limited number of seats available.  Email if interested.

Intelligence requirements.

Discussions of intelligence collection should revolve around the understanding that all collection is directed.  That is, your ‘control’ – in this case, the Analysis and Control Element (ACE) that everyone should be building – directs your collection efforts through intelligence requirements.  These are requirements… you are required to answer them as a part of a grand strategy to analyze the threat or operating environment, or plan for future operations.  Requirements are generated from higher, almost always as part of the commander’s intent (protecting the populace while ridding the AO of gang elements, for example).  As an intelligence collector, you are a taskable element being tasked by the ACE.  Be intimately familiar with the ACE’s intelligence requirements so that you can answer them.

Ted Cruz: US Is Not 'Al-Qaeda's Air Force'

Via Billy

On Tuesday, Sen. Ted Cruz distilled the current debate over possible military action in Syria to its essential dilemma. While Syrian President Bashar Assad is certainly a ruthless dictator, the forces aligned against him are dominated by jihadis and elements of terrorist organizations. Cruz noted that Americans didn't enlist in the military to "serve as Al-Qaeda's Air Force."

“We certainly don’t have a dog in the fight,” Cruz said, calling it a civil war in Syria. “We should be focused on defending the United States of America. That’s why young men and women sign up to join the military, not to, as you know, serve as Al Qaeda’s air force.”

Questions for Lawmakers on Immigration

Via Mike

Below are questions on immigration legislation that voters might ask their representatives when trying to determine their actual stance on the issue. Some are specifically on S.744, the Senate amnesty bill, while others are more general. Several are targeted by political party. They all are intended to help move the discussion beyond the evasions and platitudes usually offered by politicians.

Q: How do you justify bringing in tens of millions of foreigners at a time when millions of Americans are unemployed and unable to find work?

The U-6 unemployment rate is around 14 percent, a high number representing the
unemployment/underemployment of tens of millions of Americans.1 It is difficult to see how some employers cannot find Americans to fill jobs. For the most part, businesses promoting the immigration bill simply want an endless supply of cheap, foreign labor and do not want to offer better wages in order to attract legal residents to available jobs.

There is no such thing as "a job Americans won't do". According to Census data, nearly every job that a politician might think of as an "immigrant job" is actually held by a majority of American citizens. For example, of taxi drivers and chauffeurs, 58 percent are native-born; of butchers and meat processors, 63 percent are native-born; when it comes to construction laborers, 66 percent are native-born; and 73 percent of janitors are native-born Americans. Politicians often repeat the "jobs Americans won't do" claim, but they never seem to give examples because they know they would insult millions of Americans.

Q: The CBO says the bill would reduce wages for American workers. How do you justify this?

North Carolina Republicans will aim to ax income tax

Via WiscoDave

 http://media2.newsobserver.com/smedia/2012/05/16/14/22/MHeAS.AuSt.156.jpg

At the moment, seven states across the country don’t levy a tax on income, and North Carolina Republicans want to make it eight, according to a powerful member of the state legislature.

State Sen. Bob Rucho, a Mecklenburg County Republican and chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, said Wednesday that he hoped to use the 2015 legislative session to eliminate the state income tax, replacing it with a consumption-based sales tax to make up for the lost revenue.

“That’s a direction we’d like to go,” Rucho said in an interview as the state Senate adjourned for the year. Rucho said it was impractical to push for such a steep cut during a short session the legislature holds in even-numbered years, but that cutting the income tax was a top priority of his when the legislature reconvenes for its biennial full session.

Obama's BS On Chemical Weapons In Syria

Obama is spouting off from the ass once again in Sweden.

Every time this buttclown, McStain, Graham or the others open their mouths (or McStain plays poker during the Senate hearing yesterday) they continue to obfuscate and ignore the bottom line:

A military strike at Assad's government IS ACTING AS AL QAIDA'S AIR FORCE.

The rest of this debate is arm-waving.

A military strike at Assad's government IS ACTING AS AL QAIDA'S AIR FORCE.

Al Qaida is a sworn enemy of the United States.  The United States has ratified their statement of being our enemy through more than 10 years of continual declaration of a "state of emergency" citing the so-called "war on terror."

It is an act of Treason according to our Constitution to provide material aid and comfort to a sworn enemy of our nation.

A military strike at Assad's government IS ACTING AS AL QAIDA'S AIR FORCE.

I am not convinced that Assad's people used the chemical weapons.  They would be insane to do so; they are winning the civil war and irrespective of winning or losing there was no political calculus that makes sense for them to use this sort of munition.

You Americans want to remove my ally, the Syrian leader Bashar Al-Assad.  To borrow a phrase from your John F. Kennedy, Assad may be a son-of-a-bitch, but he’s my son-of-a-bitch.

So if you want to destroy him, what are you going to give me in return?  If your answer is, “We will give you nothing,” well, why would I ever agree to that?   That’s not negotiation, that’s dictation; it’s a return to the bad Yeltsin days, when Holy Mother Russia was pushed into the mud like a used whore.

Look, I’ll be the first to say that Obama’s “red line” comment was dumb.  It’s obvious he hadn’t thought it through; one can see it in the words he used to express his policy.  He said that the “red line” would be crossed if “a whole bunch” of chemical weapons were used.  What kind of language is that?  How does one quantify a “whole bunch”?  This is the President of the High-and-Mighty United States, and he’s talking like a schoolboy?  All for this silliness over sarin in Syria?
