I went in one year earlier (1966) and took basic at Fort Bragg, then AIT at Camp Lee, then assigned Permanent Party at Fort Knox in a training division, then to Vietnam after a short stay. I spent a total of 21 months in Vietnam, then got out with 31 months total as you would be let go if you came back with 5 months or less. (pre-planned). Then off to OICC Saigon as a Budget Analyst and later with DAO (Defense Attaché Office) American Embassy until the end.
