According to an explanation of “The Lost Cause” from the web site of the Virginia Historical Society:

Former Confederates crafted a historical interpretation of the Civil War to reconcile the prewar society they admired and the devastation that accompanied southern defeat. The “Lost Cause” narrative was developed by former Confederates who claimed that states’ rights, not slavery, caused the war; that enslaved blacks remained faithful to their masters; and that the South was defeated only by overwhelming numerical and industrial strength. Confederate veteran and memorial associations promoted “Lost Cause” themes to help white southerners cope with the many changes during this era.

As Lincoln prepared his invasion of the South after Fort Sumter, he responded to public outcry in Maryland with illegally suspending the right of habeas corpus, increasingly severe repression, and monitoring elections. The author below writes that Lincoln’s “clumsy response is better explained by psychological impulse than by political imperative,” as he could not abide having dissident Maryland citizens waving Southern banners so close to his political seat.

“[General Winfield] Scott . . . [issued the order] for the arrest of Baltimore’s city marshal, George P. Kane, and the entire board of police commissioners – all of whom [were] implicated in the imagined [Maryland secession] plot.

So it was that at an early hour on June 27, 1861, a detachment of troops marched through Baltimore’s streets . . . [to] Marshal Kane’s home. Within the hour Kane arrived at Fort McHenry . . . When the sun rose over the Eastern Shore on July 1, all four commissioners lay in the dank dungeon of Fort McHenry . . . Soldiers by the hundreds strode Baltimore’s streets with their bayonets fixed that morning, and citizens who dared to express disagreement with their government felt the teeth of martial law.

The United States Congress convened three days after the arrest of the commissioners and questioned the seemingly highhanded action taken against public officials of a loyal State. Knowing that Lincoln had already ignored judicial demands in such matters, the police commissioners bypassed the legal system to petition their congressional representative for relief, and twenty days into its session the House of Representatives adopted resolution requesting [Lincoln] to provide grounds and evidence for the arrests.

Lincoln declined to cooperate. Citing what would become the favorite excuse of future administrations seeking to invoke a dubious prerogative, he informed the elected representatives of the people that it was “incompatible with the public interest at this time” to release that information.

Some of the commissioners remained in confinement for months, and Marshal Kane was not released until November of 1862, but for the rest of the war and thereafter, revealing the reason for their detention remained incompatible with the public interest.”

Who Was Flora Macdonald?

Flora Macdonald, Jacobite heroine, was born in 1722 to Ranald Macdonald of Milton on the island of South Uist in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, and his wife Marion. Her father died when she was a child, and her mother married Hugh Macdonald of Armadale, Skye.

She was brought up under the care of the chief of her clan, the Macdonalds of Clanranald and was partly educated in Edinburgh. Throughout her life she was a practising Presbyterian. During the Jacobite Risings, in June 1746, she was living on the island of Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides when Bonnie Prince Charlie took refuge there after the Battle of Culloden. The prince's companion, a Captain O'Neill, sought her assistance to help the prince avoid capture. After some hesitation, Flora agreed to help the prince escape the island. The commander of the local militia gave her a pass to the mainland for herself, a manservant, an Irish spinning maid, Betty Burke, and a boat's crew of six men. The prince was disguised as Betty Burke.

This last six months of events within Canada have certainly educated the Canadian public as to how passive subversive terrorism has been adopted by the Liberal Party of Canada. I have been vastly ignorant and critical regarding the decisions and plans of the Liberals, because their every action just happens to fit the description for the extremist islamic strategy of war against free countries. Let us review shall we?

Deliberate stagnation of our economy and resource sectors: We certainly saw everything but progress or intelligence regarding the development of any oil pipeline. In fact, all "efforts" were put forth to ensure that the pipeline chosen for expansion would be the one that faced the most protests and environmental concerns. We watched as everything became ridiculous and two provinces forgot they were in the same country. Alberta and British Columbia were deliberately set upon one another, while Native protesters had a wonderful time tooting their horns and pooping their pants. Without any intelligent leaders to properly negotiate, Kinder Morgan had no choice but to set a deadline. For those of you that fail to understand, deadlines are set as a last result when absolute idiots cannot get anything done. I predicted that the Liberals would practice filth politics and divisional tactics against Canadians, and what have we witnessed? How about that carbon tax, eh?

Four of the world’s biggest tech platforms have working partnerships with a left-wing nonprofit that has a track record of inaccuracies and routinely labels conservative organizations as “hate groups.”

Facebook, Amazon, Google and Twitter all work with or consult the $outhern Poverty Law Center ($PLC) in policing their platforms for “hate speech” or “hate groups,” a Daily Caller News Foundation investigation found.

The $PLC is on a list of “external experts and organizations” that Facebook works with “to inform our hate speech policies,” Facebook spokeswoman Ruchika Budhraja told TheDCNF in an interview.
Facebook consults the outside organizations when developing changes to hate speech policies, Budhraja said, noting that Facebook representatives will typically hold between one and three meetings with the groups.

'Remarkable' therapy beats terminal breast cancer

The life of a woman with terminal breast cancer has been saved by a pioneering new therapy, say US researchers. 

It involved pumping 90 billion cancer-killing immune cells into her body.

Judy Perkins had been given three months to live, but two years later there is no sign of cancer in her body.

The team at the US National Cancer Institute says the therapy is still experimental, but could transform the treatment of all cancer.

Judy - who lives in Florida - had spreading, advanced breast cancer that could not be treated with conventional therapy.

A friend and I were sitting at a bar, iPhones in pockets, discussing our recent trips in Japan and how we’d like to go back. The very next day, we both received pop-up ads on Facebook about cheap return flights to Tokyo. It seemed like just a spooky coincidence, but then everyone seems to have a story about their smartphone listening to them. Dershowitz: Someone 'Leaked' Comey Info Out of Fear IG Report Would Be Changed

Alan Dershowtiz appeared on "Fox & Friends" on Thursday to react to a report that the Justice Department inspector general has determined that former FBI Director James Comey defied authority at times and was "insubordinate."

Inspector General Michael Horowitz has been exploring the DOJ's and FBI's actions during the 2016 presidential campaign, including whether Comey exceeded his authority in July 2016 when he publicly discussed the Hillary Clinton email investigation and recommended no charges.

Dershowitz said somebody familiar with Horowitz's draft report leaked this information about Comey because they were "afraid it was going to get changed."

Rogue House Republicans are preparing to grant amnesty to 3.2 million illegal aliens

Immigration has been electoral gold for Republicans in the last few elections cycles. As Democrats have moved increasingly in the direction of an amnesty-only approach to illegal immigration, Republicans at the federal and state level have succeeded by promising voters real immigration enforcement. 

Running on that platform, Republicans captured both houses of Congress and the White House in 2016. Both in his campaign and as president, Donald Trump laid out a comprehensive list of reforms to halt illegal immigration and vowed to oppose any form of amnesty for those who violated our laws. 

In 2018, as legislators prepare to face voters once again, Republicans have delivered nothing in the way of meaningful immigration enforcement legislation, but seem poised to pass legislation in the House that would grant amnesty to some 3.2 million illegal aliens (more than four times the number of people who received DACA protections), without even vague assurances that large-scale illegal immigration will be tamed.

Black Motorists Lying on Cops -- Who's Doing the 'Racial Profiling'?

In the last few weeks, three black motorists, including an NAACP chapter president, made blatantly false allegations against perfectly courteous police officers.

Now who's "racially profiling"?

First, in Timmonsville, S.C., local NAACP President the Rev. Jerrod Moultrie put up a lengthy post on his Facebook page: "Tonight, I was racially profiled by Timmonsville Officer CAUSE I WAS DRIVING A MERCEDES BENZ AND GOING HOME IN A NICE NEIGHBORHOOD." The reverend claimed the officer told him, "I am doing you a favor tonight not taking you to jail or writing you a ticket."

"My conviction is that we will be faced with 'Official' organized opponents i.e. trained, equipped, organized military force.  Marines and some Soldiers acting under orders

of whatever authority holds sway . . . might be a Governor . . . might be a Senator,

might be some quasi-religious nut.

Mormons once raised an aggressive militia of their own.  I doubt not that it may be

in existence still, on the QT.  Muzzies certainly have a religious inspiration.

Anyway - I'm more concerned with that scenario, than CCW and the off chance that

I might be the guy to take down some rabid dog of a Muzzie, Antifa, or BLM whacko.

So my gear is aligned with the military aspects.  I use issue pistol belts, LBE, gear

and fooforaw.  I have steel pots, E-Tools (Of the old style, not the flimsy folding crap)

I anticipate that that the Reds will win the government back from the Trumpistas and

that hell will be paid thereafter.  Demographics alone informs me of that eventuality.

Anyway, here's an object of interest for you . . . this is a legitimate tool, used in

the AC/Heating/insulation industry.  You will note that it has some interseting

possibilities for a DIY doing some 'remodeling'.  Now, this is NOT a field knife.

It's a tool, so the blade is not thick for 'batoning' kindling and so on.  What it is

good for is penetrating, slashing, and cutting as in some untoward situation a

citizen might find himself involved in.

I have two older styles, with High Carbon double edged blades, fairly flexible,

spear pointed and  v e r y  sharp.  I'm ordering two more, of the pattern you see."

We Are Going to Lose the Second Amendment

In just the last month, there have been three school shootings. More if we extend the timeline back to February to include the one at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida. No one can point to any real regulation short of confiscation that might have stopped the killings, and, besides, we already have comprehensive gun regulations.
 
And yet, the “gun control” drumbeat is growing louder. We continue to be inundated with news reports featuring sobbing, scared children; stone-faced politicians who intone, “Enough is enough”; social media blitzes designed to capitalize on the still-fresh trauma; and on and on. 

All this leads to a very simple, obvious conclusion—one that no doubt will shock and make very uncomfortable most people on the Right: We are going to lose the gun debate, just like we’ve lost so many others.

Why? Because the Left knows precisely how to win these contests.
