Why We Are Divided: The Case of Larry Elder

Larry Elder is a talk show host who is running for governor of California. On September 14, California voters will have the opportunity to recall their current governor, Gavin Newsom. Should that happen, voters will choose Newsom’s replacement on the same ballot. If current polling is anywhere near accurate, the likely winner will be Elder.

The liberal media is panicking over the prospect. An editorial in the New York Times by Farhad Manjoo, for example, declares the Elder candidacy a “looming disaster,” a “liberal nightmare” and a possibility that is “as serious as a heart attack.”

For Times editorial writer Paul Krugman, the possibility is even more frightening. Elder, he says, would be a “Trumpist governor” whose election would produce “awesome consequences”—all bad, of course.

Elder’s candidacy is an ideal opportunity to investigate why the country is so divided politically and why it is so difficult to have civil conversations about politics. But first things first.

Why is Elder running for governor? He has a website that tells you. His main issues are: homelessness, crime, education and high taxes. For anyone who has been paying attention to California in the news, these issues should come as no surprise.

The Biggest Fraud Ever Perpetrated Against the U.S.

The scamming of pandemic unemployment relief benefits is now being described as “the biggest fraud ever perpetrated against the U.S.” by private security experts. What’s really scary is that it may not yet be over.

The story is back in the news because those experts have done more work to identify where the money has gone instead of to the unemployed Americans to whom it was intended. NBC reports:

Russian mobsters, Chinese hackers and Nigerian scammers have used stolen identities to plunder tens of billions of dollars in Covid benefits, spiriting the money overseas in a massive transfer of wealth from U.S. taxpayers, officials and experts say. And they say it is still happening.

Among the ripest targets for the cybertheft have been jobless programs. The federal government cannot say for sure how much of the more than $900 billion in pandemic-related unemployment relief has been stolen, but credible estimates range from $87 billion to $400 billion—at least half of which went to foreign criminals, law enforcement officials say.

A Year with Forrest

         Forrest-42K

There were two brigades of infantry close at hand, numbering in all about five thousand men, and the country swarmed with cavalry, but these did not count for much. The Northern generals still proceeded on the sleepy idea that it is the main function of cavalry to serve as eyes and ears for infantry. Forrest had gotten beyond that standpoint long before, and no cavalry trained upon the ancient maxims was able to stand against us.

[Publisher's Note, by Gene Kizer, Jr. : Rev. Whitsitt's address recounts a year with Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest mostly in Tennessee and often around the area of SCV national headquarters at Elm Springs in Columbia, Tennessee where Gen. Forrest and his wife, Mary Ann Montgomery Forrest, will be laid to rest in a little over a week.

We are blessed to have one of the greatest cavalry soldiers of all time and his beloved wife back home with us, inspiring us now as he did his compatriots during the war. It is as if Forrest is once again commanding Confederates, charging into the enemy, winning battles, except it is our honor to do so today.

SCV members should pilgrimage every year to Elm Springs and other inspiring places and come away determined to spread the true history of the South far and wide, and obliterate our woke, ignorant enemies.

A good way to celebrate the return of Gen. Forrest and his wife to those who love them, is with the powerful words of another Tennessean, Edward Ward Carmack (1858-1908), in his "Pledge to the South." Carmack was a United States senator from Tennessee and before that a member of the House of Representatives. These words were spoken on the floor of the House:

The South is a land that has known sorrows; It is a land that has broken the ashen crust and moistened it with tears; A land scarred and riven by the plowshare of war and billowed with the graves of her dead; But a land of legend, a land of song, a land of hallowed and heroic memories. To that land every drop of my blood, every fibre of my being, every pulsation of my heart, is consecrated forever. I was born of her womb; I was nurtured at her breast; And when my last hour shall come, I pray God that I may be pillowed upon her bosom and rocked to sleep within her tender and encircling arms.

The Latin phrase, gaudium certaminis, is mentioned in this article and it means "the joy of battle" which describes That Devil Forrest and his Confederate compatriots to the letter.]

The Journey from Canaan to Carolina

Biblical history tells us that Abrahamic monotheism, the foundation of not only Judaism but Christianity and Islam as well, began some four thousand years ago in Ur, the ancient land that is now southern Iraq. There, the patriarch Abraham made his sacred covenant with God in which the followers of Abraham were to someday inherit the promised land of Canaan. A millennium later, the Jewish kingdoms of Israel and Judah were finally established there, along with the written text of Judaism presented in the first five books of the Old Testament, the Torah.

In another thousand years, however, that land which the Romans called Judaea became a protectorate of the Roman Empire that was administered by a Roman governor. Within a few years, the Jews rose up in rebellion against the harsh Roman rule and its onerous taxation. The revolt was crushed in 73 B. C. with the capital of Jerusalem being almost totally destroyed, the area annexed as a Roman province and the Jews driven from their promised land. Thus began their two-thousand year Diaspora . . . a tragic journey that would entail much suffering and lead them to every corner of the world.

A Bridge Too Far? White House: Biden will tell private businesses employees must get vaccinated

Just two months ago Biden prematurely declared the nation’s “independence” from the virus. Now, despite more than 208 million Americans having at least one dose of the vaccines, the U.S. is seeing about 300% more new COVID-19 infections a day, about two-and-a-half times more hospitalizations, and nearly twice the number of deaths compared to the same time last year.

President Joe Biden on Thursday is announcing sweeping new federal vaccine requirements affecting as many as 100 million Americans including mandating that private business owners force employees to receive the COVID-19 vaccine of undergo weekly testing.

The expansive rules mandate that all employers with more than 100 workers require them to be vaccinated or test for the virus weekly, affecting about 80 million Americans. And the roughly 17 million workers at health facilities that receive federal Medicare or Medicaid also will have to be fully vaccinated.

CDC Changes Definition of ‘Vaccine’ as COVID-19 & Rand Paul Trolls Biden on Guns

On August 26, 2021, the definition of “vaccine” on the CDC website was “a product that stimulates a person’s immune system to produce immunity to a specific disease.” The definition of “vaccination” at that time was “the act of introducing a vaccine into the body to produce immunity to a specific disease.”

As of yesterday, the new definition of “vaccine” on the CDC website is “a preparation that is used to stimulate the body’s immune response against diseases.” The definition of “vaccination” describes “the act of introducing a vaccine into the body to produce protection from a specific disease.”

The governor’s move prompted a legal challenge that remained unresolved for more than a year. But the Supreme Court of Virginia ruled last week that the commonwealth could remove the statue and that the government was not obligated to keep it up — even if the deed for the monument called for it to be kept up for display in perpetuity.

A time capsule below a now-removed Confederate statue will be replaced with a new capsule filled with contemporary items. The capsule-removal plan, announced by Virginia Governor Ralph Northam (D-VA), involves searching around the 40-foot granite base that previously held up a statue of Robert E Lee, the Confederate general. The statue was put up in the decades after the Civil War.
