How to land an airplane if you are not a pilot

Via Daily Timewaster

 http://hackermonthly.com/images/mag-cover37.png

At the flight school people always ask me:

"Can I land a plane? I have X years of flight simulator experience."

Short answer is: history shows you will probably die. Probably not because it is difficult but because you don't know what you don't know. Flight simulators distort important aspects of landing airplanes:

your awesome 200 degrees/3D vision, the muscle mechanics of flying and the notion of distance. In fact, flight simulators are harder than the real thing. Yet, many in the flight school I teach landed without the need for intervention in their first flight. I landed an airplane for the first time when I was 11 years old. With a bit of luck you can do this by yourself. So, in case of an emergency, this is what you could do...

(TL;DR at the end)

There are many types of airplanes, but when it comes to landing there is pretty much two classes:

heavy and light. This is more related to lift/weight ratio (and wing type) than actual the size of the airplane. I will show you how you can land light airplanes in the easiest way possible, as long as first you open any flight simulator right now (xplane for iphone is ok) and understand the basic controls (pitch, roll, yaw) and the relationship between speed and angle of attack. Playing with it for 10 minutes (at low speeds) should suffice. The basic mechanics are good enough. Keep in mind that brains are incredible machines and can learn things automagically, but you need to stay calm. For instance, my wife learned to keep an airplane flying without one single instruction.

The pilot died, now what?

Rand Paul aide has history of neo-Confederate sympathies, inflammatory statements.
Who cares?  He's one of my favorites, by the way.

A close aide to Sen. Rand Paul (R., Ky.) who co-wrote the senator’s 2011 book spent years working as a pro-secessionist radio pundit and neo-Confederate activist, raising questions about whether Paul will be able to transcend the same fringe-figure associations that dogged his father’s political career. (He will handle it just fine as did his good father, moron.)

Holy Mosquito Bite Batman! It’s Summer Time!

 by

Do you remember the ‘60s TV show, Batman? Twice weekly, Batman and Robin treated audiences to their own brand of campy slapstick comedy, awash in the fiendish antics of the Daring Duo’s roster of villains: the Joker, the Penguin, and the Riddler, as well as others. These cunning scoundrels taxed the Daring Duo’s patience, as well as the Duo’s ability to eradicate them. Each show ended with a cliffhanger, leaving the audience to ponder if Batman and Robin would survive. But the Daring Duo may have met their match had they traveled south via the Batmobile and experienced a Mississippi Gulf Coast summer with its heat and those flying, biting Harpies of the South – the pesky mosquito.

Underground Gun Making Industry in the Philippines (27 pics)

It all began during World War II when gunmakers in the town of Danao supplied guerillas with weapons against the Japanese. Now 10,000 of Danao's 100,000 residents are involved in the industry. Replicas of M-16, AK-47, Uzi and Ingram sub-machine guns are the most popular firearms. The weapons are later sold to local customers, politicians, military personnel and ordinary civilians. For example, a revolver maybe sold for $ 80 which is already equivalent to a few weeks' wages. They are also very popular among Japanese Yakuza and Chinese mafia.

art-link-symbol-small-rev01.jpg 237 years after its birth, the United States of America may cease to exist as we know it within the next 90 days. The American people have become lazy, slothful, and intellectually dishonest to the point where accepting the government's decrees which impinge on their freedoms is the accepted rule of thumb rather than fighting to defend their freedoms. Unless a drastic change occurs soon, the end of the Republic will happen much faster than imagined, says John Galt in this article, The Last 90 days of the USA, at Shenandoah.

art-link-symbol-small-rev01.jpg The media's biased reporting has whipped up racial arsonists from Washington to Hollywood who have cited it as proof Zimmerman "executed" Martin out of racism. It's also led indirectly to beatings of whites by blacks in Virginia, Illinois and Alabama, who said they were getting even "for Trayvon." If there's rioting from an acquittal of Zimmerman — as the police chiefs of Sanford and Chicago and elsewhere fear — the blood will be on the media's hands, says this editorial, Media's High-Tech Lynching Of George Zimmerman, at Investor's Business Daily.

If the day comes when tanks are necessary in defense of gun control, gay marriage, mandatory abortions, national health insurance or some other liberal cause, there is no real doubt that they will do it. For now they admire their own sophisticated ability to get their way with empty speeches, media bias and social nudges. It hasn't crossed their minds yet that the day will come when that will not be enough.

Firefighters 7.62x39 HotShot 123gr FMJ, 1000rd case SPECIAL "HOTSHOT" FUNDRAISING SALE

The cheapest I have seen recently.

On June 30th, 19 firefighters of the Prescott AZ Fire Departments Granite Mountain Hotshot Crew were killed fighting the Yarnell Hill Fire. The fire raging through the Prescott National Forest swept over them that fateful Sunday evening, taking their lives and leaving many wives and children behind in need of support.

To show our support for these families in need, we are starting a special fundraising effort. We have carried the "Hotshot" brand 7.62x39 ammo for quite some time and are now reducing it to only $250.00 per 1000rd case, with $50.00 from the sale of each case going to the Prescott Firefighters Charity, or other similar 501(c)3 organizations that focus on the local families.

This special "Hotshot" offer is good until next week, or until we sell 700 cases of ammo. We hope through our combined efforts to donate $35,000 to this cause. These courageous firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice defending our communities from wildfire. Their families deserve our support.

We thank you for joining us in this effort. For more information on the Prescott Firefighters Charity please see their site at www.prescottffcharities.org/how-you-can-help/

(The 7.62x39 Hotshot ammo is a 123gr FMJ load. This is new production, non-corrosive, Berdan primed ammo by CAI. It comes in a 1000 round case. Classic military style poly-coated steel case, perfect for your AK or SKS.)

U.S. Government’s Secret Move To Hide Files On The Osama Bin Laden Raid

Via avordvet

The Osama Bin Laden raid was suspect from the very beginning.  Not only were key initial descriptions of the assault completely incorrect (such as him being armed and his wife being killed), but the manner in which his body was rapidly tossed into the ocean was beyond bizarre.  I mean, Tony Soprano keeps a body longer than that.

Well it seems the “most transparent administration ever” has made sure that the American public never receives any information beyond the propaganda of Zero Dark Thirty. From the Associated Press:
WASHINGTON (AP) — The nation’s top special operations commander ordered military files about the Navy SEAL raid on Osama bin Laden’s hideout to be purged from Defense Department computers and sent to the CIA, where they could be more easily shielded from ever being made public.

The secret move, described briefly in a draft report by the Pentagon’s inspector general, set off no alarms within the Obama administration even though it appears to have sidestepped federal rules and perhaps also the Freedom of Information Act.

But secretly moving the records allowed the Pentagon to tell The Associated Press that it couldn’t find any documents inside the Defense Department that AP had requested more than two years ago, and could represent a new strategy for the U.S. government to shield even its most sensitive activities from public scrutiny.

Obama-backed Jihadists in Syria have Enough Chemical Weapons to ‘Destroy a Country’

Obama backed Syrian jihadists reported to have chemical weapons
Should I believe the government?  Just ask any American Indian.

This will not end well. Obama’s jihad in Syria goes to a whole other level.

Back in January, I reported here that the U.S. had “backed a plan to launch a chemical weapon attack on Syria and blame it on Assad’s regime.”
  • Leaked emails from defense contractor refers to chemical weapons saying ‘the idea is approved by Washington’
  • Leaked emails have allegedly proved that the White House gave the green light to a chemical weapons attack in Syria that could be blamed on Assad’s regime and in turn, spur international military action in the devastated country.
A report released on Monday contains an email exchange between two senior officials at British-based contractor Britam Defence where a scheme ‘approved by Washington’ is outlined explaining that Qatar would fund rebel forces in Syria to use chemical weapons.

Now we find that the jihadists have a chemical weapons arsenal devastating enough to “destroy the country,” giving proof to UN claims back in May that it was jihadists who were using chemical weapons and not Assad.

Michael Farris Of HSLDA Responds To Publius Huldah’s Critique Of The Parental Rights Amendment

The best deal ever.  $10 a month for membership which gives you beside other things, free attorney representation in any Homeschool related problem.

Editor’s Note: After our very own attorney Publius Huldah, broke down the Parental Rights Amendment, we were contacted by Michael Ramey representing Michael Farris of Homeschool Legal Defense Association (HSLDA), who was the architect of the Parental Rights Amendment to the United States Constitution. Mr. Farris wanted the opportunity to respond to the article and so we are granting him the opportunity to do just that below. If you wish to read the previous article to understand Farris’ response, you may do so by clicking here. Our hope is that this will air out both sides so that parents can make an informed decision. “The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.” –Proverbs 18:17

The blog posted by Publius Huldah gives the appearance of a scholarly critique of the Parental Rights Amendment but it lacks any actual scholarship. In short, the author simply does not understand the subject matter of either parental rights or the basics of American Constitutional Law.

For readers who are unfamiliar with my thirty-six years of legal practice, let me give you a brief summary. I am a constitutional litigator who specializes in parental rights. I also teach constitutional law at Patrick Henry College where I am the Chancellor. I have published numerous law review articles and have written 15 books. I have argued before the Supreme Court of the United States, eight federal courts of appeals, and the appellate courts of thirteen states.

As the founder of the Home School Legal Defense Association, I have a clear record as one of the leading defenders of parental rights in the nation.

In addition to teaching Constitutional Law at Patrick Henry College, I also coach the Moot Court team, a form of debate that simulates an argument before the Supreme Court of the United States. My team has won seven national championships—including the last five in a row. No other college has ever won more than one championship.

I should also disclose that I am the principal author of the Parental Rights Amendment.

In short, I have the background as a teacher, author, and litigator to explain both the Parental Rights Amendment and the basics of American Constitutional law. Now let’s turn to the analysis by Publius Huldah.

Illinois Gun Owners Finally Win Right to Carry Concealed Firearms

Via avordvet

Illinois Becomes 50th State to Allow Concealed Carry of Handguns

Illinois became the last state in the nation to allow public possession of concealed guns as lawmakers rushed Tuesday to finalize a proposal ahead of a federal court’s deadline.

Both chambers of the Legislature voted to override changes Gov. Pat Quinn made to the bill they approved more than a month ago. Even some critics of the law argued it was better to approve something rather than risk the courts allowing virtually unregulated concealed weapons in Chicago, which has endured severe gun violence in recent months.

The Senate voted 41-17 in favor of the override Tuesday afternoon after the House voted 77-31, margins that met the three-fifths threshold needed to set aside the amendatory veto. Quinn had used his veto authority to suggest changes such as prohibiting guns in restaurants that serve alcohol and limiting gun-toting citizens to one firearm at a time.

Black Education Tragedy By Walter E. Williams

Via WiscoDave

As if more evidence were needed about the tragedy of black education, Rachel Jeantel, a witness for the prosecution in the George Zimmerman murder trial, put a face on it for the nation to see.

Some of that evidence unfolded when Zimmerman's defense attorney asked 19-year-old Jeantel to read a letter that she allegedly had written to Trayvon Martin's mother. She responded that she doesn't read cursive, and that's in addition to her poor grammar, syntax and communication skills.

Jeantel is a senior at Miami Norland Senior High School. How in the world did she manage to become a 12th-grader without being able to read cursive writing? That's a skill one would expect from a fourth-grader. Jeantel is by no means an exception at her school. Here are a few achievement scores from her school: Thirty-nine percent of the students score basic for reading, and 38 percent score below basic. In math, 37 percent score basic, and 50 percent score below basic. Below basic is the score when a student is unable to demonstrate even partial mastery of knowledge and skills fundamental for proficient work at his grade level. Basic indicates only partial mastery.

Few Americans, particularly black Americans, have any idea of the true magnitude of the black education tragedy. The education establishment might claim that it's not their fault. They're not responsible for the devastation caused by female-headed families, drugs, violence and the culture of dependency. But they are totally responsible for committing gross educational fraud. It's educators who graduated Jeantel from elementary and middle school and continued to pass her along in high school. It's educators who will, in June 2014, confer upon her a high-school diploma.

How did America’s police become a military force on the streets?

Are cops constitutional?

In a 2001 article for the Seton Hall Constitutional Law Journal, the legal scholar and civil liberties activist Roger Roots posed just that question. Roots, a fairly radical libertarian, believes that the U.S. Constitution doesn’t allow for police as they exist today. At the very least, he argues, police departments, powers and practices today violate the document’s spirit and intent. “Under the criminal justice model known to the framers, professional police officers were unknown,” Roots writes.

Action Alert: The Parental Rights Amendment (PRA) needs a bridge

July 9, 2013

A few years ago Congress was criticized for earmarking millions of dollars for a “Bridge to Nowhere.” Yet it seems that when a bridge really is needed, they are slow to get the job done.

Today the Parental Rights Amendment (PRA) needs a bridge “across the aisle,” but Congress has been slow to respond.

Just this May, Nevada’s Democrat-led legislature passed SB314, a bill to preserve traditional parental rights under state law. Republican governor Brian Sandoval signed the measure on June 5. A similar measure was adopted by Virginia’s Republican-led legislature in March.

Meanwhile, resolutions calling on Congress to propose the PRA to the states for ratification have been adopted by legislatures led by Democrats in Louisiana and dominated by Republicans in South Dakota (both in 2010). Resolutions were adopted more recently in Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, and Florida – the latter a solidly bi-partisan effort. A majority of each party – that is, a majority of Florida Republicans and a majority of Florida Democrats – supported its 2011 adoption.

And according to a Zogby poll in 2010, more than 90% of any party – Democrats, Republicans, or Independents – support the traditional right of parents to make decisions for their children.

Frankly, we remain baffled that Democrats in the U.S. House and Senate have yet to support the PRA1. At the state level, parental rights are not a partisan issue. So why should that be any different on Capitol Hill?

It is time to build the bridge. And this task is achievable.

Democrats have no reason to oppose the PRA, but they guess from the fact that all 55 current cosponsors are Republicans that their own party must be opposed; it looks like a partisan issue. Since they don’t know why that is any more than we do, they are hesitant to cross the line. But all it takes to change this are 2 or 3 brave congressmen who will look at the facts, consider the need, and sign on as cosponsors.

In other words, it only takes 2 or 3 to build the bridge. And once the bridge is built, more members from both parties can freely arrive at their destination as cosponsors of the PRA.

We have already been working behind the scenes on getting this bridge built. Today, I want to invite you to join us.

Action Items: Bridge Building

1. First, please call your congressman today and urge that they cosponsor the Parental Rights Amendment. You can find their contact information by clicking on your state at parentalrights.org/states. Then, if they are a Democrat, simply give them the following message in your own words:

I support the Parental Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, HJRes. 50. I want to urge my congressman to sign on as a cosponsor. So far only Republicans are sponsoring this legislation, and I am tired of being left out. I want my congressman to support it, regardless of what party he is from. Democrats at the state level understand that this is not a partisan issue, and it shouldn’t fall prey to partisan politics in Washington, either. If Nevada’s Democratic legislature can pass a parental rights bill like they did last month, our Democrats in Congress can support this Parental Rights Amendment, too. Please contact Rep. Mark Meadows’ office to sign on. If my congressman has specific concerns or objections, I would like for him to reply in writing so that I can get those answered for him. Thank you.

If your congressman is a Republican, you might give them a message similar to this:

I support the Parental Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, H.J.Res. 50. I want to urge my congressman to contact Rep. Mark Meadows and sign on as a cosponsor. And I would like to request a written response, especially if my congressman has questions or concerns. I would like the opportunity to get those answered for him so that he can sign on.

If your congressman has sponsored in the past, you might add:

I know Congressman ____ has sponsored this Amendment in the past, but I don’t understand why it is taking him so long to sign on now. Past support is not going to protect our parental rights. I need my congressman to continue to support this Amendment until it is adopted.

2. Call your senators and urge them to sponsor the Amendment as well. You can find their contact information through parentalrights.org/states, and give them a variant of the following message:

I want to encourage my senator to cosponsor the Parental Rights Amendment in the Senate. It is currently championed by Rep. Mark Meadows in the House as HJRes. 50, and I would like to see my senator champion the Senate version. If he would be interested, could he please contact Parentalrights.org to coordinate with them? Their number is 540-751-1247, and the person to speak to is Michael Ramey. (If your senator is a Democrat, you might add:) They are especially interested in a Democrat sponsor, to reflect the kind of bipartisan support parental rights already receive in the states. I would be very proud if my senator could provide that leadership.

(Note: We have already arranged a lead sponsor in the Senate, but we cannot yet go public with that name. We are encouraging would-be cosponsors to contact us directly.)

3. Build a bridge of your own – Visit your congressman in August.

Every year the Congress takes an August recess to make themselves available in their district. Make plans now to gather some friends, set an appointment with the local office, and go see your congressman and senators when they are home! You can find useful printouts at ParentalRights.org/documents to help you prepare for your visit (and to share with your lawmakers).

Once we build the bridge, we will not need to build it again. With your help, we can build that bridge today!

Sincerely,

Michael Ramey
Director of Communications & Research

1 It should be noted that Rep. Mike McIntyre (D-NC) is the exception to this. McIntyre cosponsored the PRA as HJRes42 in the 111th Congress and we appreciate his past support.

The 9/11, 2013 Million Muslim March- Commemorating Islamic Victory in America With Demands of Further Assault on Liberty

Via Steven

deadamericans

As Muslims continue their murderous jihad against innocent people in America and around the world (lets see, the count is over 21 thousand Islamic deadly terror attacks since 911) they moan, groan, and demand respect from American citizens for their barbaric, violent, “religion” and its accompanying Sharia Law.

Disregarding and disrespecting the mass loss of life at the hands of their religion, Muslims choose 9/11, 2013 as the date to march one million strong to shove their important message down the throats of the American people..

I get the message… do you? Do I really need to spell it out for you?

Muslims across America who participate in the Million Muslim March will validate what so many of us have been proclaiming for years about Islam’s true intent for America…. Destruction.

“Reflected Glory: Letters to Anna.”

The North Carolina War Between the States Sesquicentennial
“Unsurpassed Valor, Courage, and Devotion to Liberty”

“Reflected Glory: Letters to Anna.”  Mary Anna Morrison Jackson, portrayed by Kelly Hinson.

Date:  Sunday, 14 July -- 2:30PM at the North Carolina Forestry Museum, corner of Madison & Columbus Streets, Whiteville, NC.  Light refreshments served after the performance.

Mrs. “Stonewall” Jackson, nee Mary Anna Morrison Jackson was born and reared in Lincoln County, North Carolina and is ably portrayed by Kelly Hinson of Pinehurst.  Kelly has “researched, written and performed in first person & full mourning, the story of our beloved General’s wife, Anna.  Taken entirely from her own factual accounts, as written in her book, “The Memoirs of Stonewall Jackson,” I recount his views on secession, slavery, and the Confederacy.”

The play features selected readings of letters written by Gen. Jackson to his “esposita” during the War, adding Anna’s own thoughts to the events he describes therein.  Ending with his untimely death, after his wounding a week before by friendly fire.  The hour-long play is performed with oil lamp light, enhancing the audience’s feeling of stepping back in time to 1863.

Anna’s story is a love story, but also a tragedy in that she is widowed and remains in mourning for the rest of her life.  She and General Jackson both believed in  “Divine Providence” and that God brought him to the Virginia Military Institute before the War, and that God protected him on the battlefield. He wrote in one of his letters that he believed that “. . .God will, in His own good time and way, give us the victory.”

The presentation is sponsored by the Columbus County Volunteers, Camp 794, North Carolina Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Marxism in Mississippi

Via Billy

Recently a new mayor was elected, after a run-off election) in Jackson, Mississippi. There was almost nothing about it in any of the “news” papers that I saw and I checked with friends in Mississippi, about sixty miles south of Jackson, and they said the same thing. When it came to the new mayor of Jackson it was pretty quiet on the home front and not much news was passed out other than that he had won the election.

It was like everything else in this country anymore. If you want to find out what really goes on you have to check out sources from other countries.

I had never even heard of Jackson’s new mayor until I read an article on Trevor Loudon’s New Zeal Blog, http://www.trevorloudon.com that was a real eye opener. It was entitled “Chokwe Lumumba, Van Jones, Rev. Jeremiah Wright—Race Radicals, Marxist Militants”. Mr. Loudon started the article off with: “What do Jackson, Mississippi’ radical new Mayor Chokwe Lumumba, former Obama ‘Green Jobs Czar’ Van Jones, and former Barack Obama pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright have in common? All of them are veterans of the Communist instigated Black Radical Congress.” Loudon went on to explain how over 70 activists from over twenty cities around the country met in Chicago (where else) to start planning for a Black Radical Congress. Although the participants came as individuals, they represented groups like the New Afrikan People’s Organization, the Labor Party, the Communist Party USA, the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, African American Agenda 2000, the Democratic Socialists of America and “the Communist Party splinter Committees of Correspondence.”

Affordable Care? I Think Not.

 http://www.blueandgrey.zoomshare.com/files/pthegrey_wall-troiani097.jpg

 By Michael Downing

Once again heading into that time of year when we meet with our insurance broker to begin the discussions around renewing our employee health insurance for the next year. Last year we saw an increase of close to 19% which we were told was a small increase compared to most companies. This October we will see an increase well in access of 20% but that is nothing compared to what is coming in 2014. We were told to expect and additional 40-80% across the board for everyone and that with the demographics in our employee pool to expect to be on the "low" end between 45-60%.

Since we currently pick up around 87% of our employee cost for health care it is easy to see that we could not afford to continue to do so with this type of increase and even if we did many of our employees could not afford a 50% increase in their share. The only "solution" that our broker had to offer was for the company to drop all coverage and increase our employees" pay level by the amount we currently contribute to their health car and let them shop on the new government exchange that will be created where they will be "subsidized" according to their income.

If the American Sheeple have lived in a fantasy world that everything will be OK in a world of free bubble up and rainbow stew they are about to have a very rude awaking. If they don't wake up and demand the crooks in Morder on the Potomac be jailed for their crimes then it will be time to leave them all behind and declare our freedom once again. If at first you don't secede; try, try again........

This story received minor coverage in the local news. If the races had been reversed this would be the biggest news story in the United States. It would have knocked the Zimmerman trial out of the news.

Railroading Evangelicals on Immigration Issues: Ignorance Is Not Love

Mike Scruggs

In early 2009, Senator Charles Schumer and other “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” Gang members (for amnesty and big guest-worker programs) tried to rope the 40-member National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) into backing “Comprehensive Immigration Reform,” embracing amnesty, and more legal immigration. The NAE announced a unanimous resolution to that effect, and the feathers began to fly at the denominational level. It turns out that the resolution had only 13 of the 40 signatures and many member denominations quickly distanced themselves from the resolution. Schumer and the “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” Gang have been up to it again in 2013.

The Southern Baptists were listed in a recent immigration article as backing amnesty, but this probably reflects mainly Richard Land’s long-standing liberal immigration position, which I seriously doubt reflects Southern Baptist membership. Land is the outgoing President of the SBC’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission and has been a chief spokesman for the denomination on public policy issues.  Polling consistently shows that evangelical or “born-again” Christians oppose amnesty and other liberal immigration policies by the largest margins. In my opinion, they are much better informed on what is really going on than Richard Land. With 8 million illegal immigrants working and 20 million Americans wanting a full time job and unable to find one and with unskilled wages dropping 22 percent since 1979, further impoverishing our poorest citizens; amnesty and huge legal immigration increases do not make economic or moral sense.

Later in 2009, Zogby did a poll for the Center for Immigration Studies that showed that church denominational members were far more conservative than many of their denominational leaders.

Apparently the propaganda that illegal “immigrants are only doing what Americans won’t do” has little credibility with the general voting public. Asked whether more immigrants were needed to fill this need, Only 11 percent of all likely voters chose a similar answer. But 71 percent of all likely voters, 69 percent of Catholics, 73 percent of mainline Protestants, 75 percent of self-identified “born-again” Protestants, and 61 percent of Jewish voters selected choice B: There are plenty of Americans already here to do those jobs. If employers can’t find workers they should pay more and treat workers better.” About 18 percent said “neither” or not sure.”

In a choice between enforcing immigration and employment laws so that illegal immigrants would be encouraged to leave or legalizing them under certain conditions (like paying fines and back taxes), 61 percent of all likely voters preferred enforcement and only 26 percent preferred conditional legalization. The enforcement versus legalization choice was 64 to 24 for Catholics, 62 to 24 for mainline Protestants, 76 to 12 for “born-again” Protestants, and 43 to 40 for Jewish voters.

On a question as to whether there was too much or too little immigration (total of 1. 0 to 1.5 million per year versus less than 300,000 before the 1986 amnesty), 71 percent of all voters said it was too high. The “too high” answer was also given by 69 percent of Catholics, 73 percent of mainline Protestants, 75 percent of “born-again” Protestants, and 61 percent of Jewish voters.

One of the pitfalls of evangelical leaders making sweeping moral endorsements of legislation at the behest of political leaders is what I have called “analytical negligence.”

One evangelical leader of a genuinely conservative evangelical church, explained his advocacy of amnesty as a simple choice between law and mercy. The trouble with this leader’s thinking, however, is that you have to have your facts right and know the economic and social issues well enough to discern what good or evil consequences logically follow legislative actions, and who is going to be affected and how. It requires some economics and other homework. One of the most astonishing errors regarding immigration issues has been that supposedly just leaders are looking at immigration only in terms of mercy for illegal immigrants, while completely ignoring the colossal injustices and economic hardships that illegal immigration and excess importation of legal cheap labor inflict on American workers and their families. Mercy to lawbreakers often means unjust burdens and even poverty and disillusionment  for the law abiding.

Here is a fairness issue. Breaking immigration laws may seem a nominal offense to those who have no regard for national security, public safety, and economic and social justice, but it usually requires breaking other important laws. The Schumer-Rubio amnesty package would mean relatively small fines of $500 to $1,000 spread over several years for legalized former illegal immigrants. How many illegal immigrant workers are guilty of identity theft, Social Security number fraud, or tax evasion as well as border or visa violations? Almost all, but Schumer-Rubio will not hold them liable. Now what if you as an American commit such felonies? The Federal penalty for identity theft, a rampant problem in Arizona and other states with high numbers of illegal immigrants, is 3-7 years in prison. Some states have $50,000 to $100,000 fines as well.

Harvard Economist George Borjas has pointed out the moral tragedy of our present immigration policies. Illegal immigrants benefit at enormous expense to American workers and taxpayers, while the big corporate users of cheap foreign labor make huge profits—over $400 billion per year. Excess immigration, both legal and illegal, displaces many American workers and drives down the wages and benefits of most of the rest. Most Americans and legal immigrants are being hurt significantly by high levels of immigration, but the poorest of them are being hurt the most. Yet many religious leaders, because of shallow and unstudied knowledge of the issues are actually favoring Robber Barons against the people of their own congregations. Who is it that is financing the constant propaganda for amnesty and open-door immigration policies? It is the very same Robber Barons and their teams of lobbyists, wearing, thanks to Evangelical endorsements, the smile of moral self-satisfaction that is the reward of moral ignorance and self-deception.

When I was a child, I hated homework. The scary thing about adulthood and especially leadership is that homework is required to make good decisions, including many moral decisions. Ignorance is not love. “Love…rejoices with the truth. I Corinthians 13: 6b.
