NPS: I have never worked with a more arrogant, arbitrary and vindictive group

Claude Moore Colonial Farm is a living history, family-friendly site that, according to 1771.org, “authentically portrays the life of an 18th Century American family building a life on the nearer edges of civilized society.” It is also the only National Park in the country run by a non-profit organization. Yet, even this privately funded space, which has not received a penny from the Federal government since 1980, was not safe from Monday's shutdown.

Anna Eberly, the Managing Director of Claude Moore Colonial Farm, told supporters via email today what she thought about the closure:

Flaggers: Raising the RVA I-95 Battle Flag

In the days leading up to the September 28th RVA I-95 Confederate Battle Flag raising in Chester, VA, the media filed reports filled with fears and speculation of "trouble" that was sure to accompany the planned Memorial and Dedication service.  Planning for a crowd of approx. 150, we were warned that folks would likely stay away in fear. Chesterfield County police officers visited with us in the days leading up to the service, to go over parking and traffic control plans, and to let us know that they would be on call should there be any disturbances.

As the Va Flaggers arrived to prepare for the event on Saturday morning, it soon became obvious that not only was the weather going to be perfect, but that all of those fears were completely unfounded.  Parking was plentiful, traffic was trouble free, and over 300 Southern Heritage Supporters made their way to the flag site, including visitors from as far away as North Carolina, Texas, Florida, Missouri, and Pennsylvania, as well as cities and towns from across the Commonwealth.  Throughout the entire course of the event, there was not one single protestor, dissenter, or even a disparaging remark from passers-by.

NC: GRNC Alert 10-2-13 Davidson College To Hold Public Gun Forum

Panel discussion on “gun rights, responsibilities and regulations”…

GRNC has learned that Davidson College has invited the public to a panel discussion on “Gun Rights, Responsibilities, and Regulations,” on Monday evening, October 7 in the Lilly Family Gallery of Chambers Building.

The panel will address questions such as: What are the trends in the use of guns in murders and other violent crimes in the U.S.? What is the current status and scope of our Second Amendment rights? What does federal law require regarding background checks prior to gun purchases? What concerns do law-enforcement personnel have about illegally trafficked guns? Are changes to current gun laws or regulations warranted, either at the state or federal level?

The panel will include Chief Rodney Monroe of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Chief Jeanne Miller of the Davidson Police Department, Interim Acting Chief/Captain Carolyn McMackin of Davidson College Public Safety, Lance Stell, Thatcher Professor of Philosophy and Director of Medical Humanities, and Andrew O’Geen, Assistant Professor of Political Science. The event is being sponsored by the Vann Center for Ethics, and will be moderated by David Perry, Director of the Vann Center and Professor of Applied Ethics.

Lost Invitations?

Noticeably missing from the discussion panel, of course, are any solid Pro-Second Amendment individuals. Perhaps their invitations were lost at some point? Here’s where you come in: plan to attend the forum at Davidson College on Monday evening so that all voices can be heard. Unless we are willing to participate in these types of forums, our voices may be swept by the wayside so that only one side of the issue is heard. Although we can’t say for sure if that is the intention here, we can make sure that our side is represented in the audience, at least.

Important note

Those planning to attend the event should note that guns are not allowed on the Davidson College campus. Davidson College is a private educational facility and does have a “no weapons/ firearms” policy. Please do not bring firearms with you on Monday evening.

Collusion :)!

I tried to install, but it is not compatible with my Waterfox 18.0.

added collusion yesterday.  it's still beta and not entirely stable.  watched it build up a little network chart as i went to drudge, the blaze, breitbart, then wrsa.  looked like everything was normal as expected with a lot of links back to google.  went to brock's site and up popped an entire new constellation with about 40 or 50 stars of it's own in one neat cluster.  must be something about his links.  pretty sure this is just normal and good, but interesting, if you are exploring linkage these days.  haven't had time to check on click thrus, as i have to start packing for the trip.  you got a videographer yet or is it open policy on making video clips of the event?  feel obligated to at least make you guys think you're still being spied upon since the government is shutdown.  ha ha.

Obamacare exchange leaks data of 2,400 unsuspecting customers

Via LH

An employee of Minnesota’s Obamacare exchange, MNsure, sent an unencrypted file to the wrong person and left 2,400 people’s private information at the mercy of a nearby insurance agent.

One exchange staffer’s simple mistake gave insurance broker Jim Koester access to an Excel document of Social Security numbers, names, addresses and other personal data for whole a list of insurance agents. Luckily for the 2,400, Koester was cooperative — and unnerved.

“The more I thought about it, the more troubled I was,” Koester told the Minnesota Star Tribune.
“What if this had fallen into the wrong hands? It’s scary. If this is happening now, how can clients of MNsure be confident their data is safe?”

Ben Carson: ‘I had my first encounter with the IRS’ after challenging Obama

At an event in Birmingham, Ala. Monday night, former Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon Ben Carson revealed that he had received a visit from the Internal Revenue Service following his much-noted remarks at a National Prayer Breakfast earlier this year.

“I had my first encounter with the IRS this year, unsurprisingly after the prayer breakfast,” Carson told an audience that at the annual Business Council of Alabama Chairman’s Dinner, according to a report from Cliff Sims of the Montgomery, Ala.-based Yellowhammer News.

Carson’s February speech February made him a conservative darling for criticizing President Barack Obama’s 2010 health-care reform law, while Obama was sitting just a few feet away.

On Obamacare (and Guns), We Won't Comply

Americans know instinctively that when liberals start talking about deficit reduction that’s it’s just a case of the fantods, as Huckleberry Finn would say. And say what you will about old Huck, but he knew a couple of frauds when he saw them.

"Hain't we got all the fools in town on our side?," said Huck Finn's fraudulent king in the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. "And ain't that a big enough majority in any town?"

It certainly is enough in DC, but the rest of the US isn't so gullible.

No matter what liberal “Wonks” like Ezra Klein say about the historically dumb healthcare “reform” known as Obamcare, Americans are uneasy about it.

And they should be.

More and more law-abiding Americans say that they have constitutional objections to the healthcare and liberty land grab by the Obama administration.

It's a land grab that has spread from mortgages to religion to healthcare to guns. But some at least-- besides Ted Cruz --are putting up resistance.

Open for Business: Gov't to Erect $98,670 Outhouse

 Romtec

The Federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) recently paid $98,670 for the purchase and installation of an outhouse at the Swede Park Trail Head in Alaska.

The purchase includes a single-vault Romtec 1011 "Aspen Single" prefabricated waterless toilet and its installation at the parking area for the trail head.

KJ Mushovic of the BLM tells CNSNews.com, “Almost half of it (contract expense) is for the cost of the toilet.”

The Oregon based company Romtec lists the "Aspen Single" model on its website for “as low as $9,999”, but the BLM says the price they paid likely includes shipping to Alaska.

“And the cost of all the materials that will have to be taken to the site, Mushovic said. “There will be earthwork that’ll have to be done.”

Obama sued for 'illegal' Obamacare move. 'Politics do not trump the Constitution or the rule of law'

 court

Another lawsuit has been filed against the president’s health care takeover strategy – this time by a Florida company complaining that Barack Obama had no authority to simply go in and change the law once it had been approved by Congress and signed.

It was last July, according to reports, that Obama simply announced he was changing the law, which had scheduled a requirement for employers to provide adequate and affordable health insurance starting Jan. 1, 2014, or pay huge fines.

Obama, responding to complaints from businesses, simply changed the effective date of that requirement to Jan. 1, 2015, strategically after the 2014 elections.

Obamacare already has been the subject of dozens of lawsuits, and the U.S. Supreme Court last year ruled that it is a tax, and therefore constitutional, even thought he Obama administration had argued it wasn’t a tax.

There is another case now heading toward the U.S. Supreme Court, too, that could end up with critical sections being determined to be illegal.

Obama admin. knew about WWII veterans’ request and rejected it

Via Horace

The White House and the Department of the Interior rejected a request from Rep. Steven Palazzo’s office to have World War II veterans visit the World War II memorial in Washington, the Mississippi Republican told The Daily Caller Tuesday.

Palazzo helped the veterans commit an act of civil disobedience against the Park Service Tuesday, when the heroes stormed through barricades around the closed memorial.

The veterans were visiting the memorial as part of Honor Flight, a non-profit that provides veterans free transport to the nation’s capital to visit the memorials to the wars they fought in.

The real Vietnam: Spectacular images taken by courageous AP war photographers released to remember 50 years since conflict began

Via WiscoDave

 s

The Vietnam War left a deep and lasting impression on not just the soldiers who fought but the whole of America.

And the superb photojournalism by the Associated Press' Saigon bureau was largely responsible for sharing the bravery and drama of the conflict with those at home.

Half a century on from the beginning of the war, a new book entitled 'Vietnam: The Real War' showcases some 300 of the most historic AP images - from Malcolm Browne's image of the burning monk to Nick Ut's photograph of a 9-year-old running from a napalm attack to Eddie Adams' picture of the execution of a Viet Cong prisoner - that serve as a photographic record of the combat.

Writer Pete Hamill gives a moving tribute to the unbelievably brave AP photojournalists who reported from the frontline to share the harrowing truths of war, some paying the ultimate price. The AP earned six Pulitzer Prizes, including four for photography, for its Vietnam War coverage.

'Across the years of the war in Vietnam, the AP photographers saw more combat than any general,' Hamill explains in his introduction. 'This book shows how good they were... From Vietnam, photographers taught the world how to see the war.'

'Vietnam: The Real War' is published on October 1 by Abrams Books in the U.S. and Canada, and by Abrams & Chronicle Books in the UK. The book's publication will coincide with an exhibition at the Steven Kasher Gallery in Manhattan, which opens October 24 and runs through November 26.

Obama: “I Will Not Negotiate” (Except with all, but Americans.......)

Key to winning fight against anti-gun ObamaCare rests with House

“It is abundantly clear that Harry Reid wants a shutdown. And now he’s gotten the shutdown that the wants.” - Senator Ted Cruz, October 1, 2013

Like a bully in the school playground, Barack Obama, Democratic Leader Harry Reid, and their media cronies are demanding Republicans’ lunch money - all of it - or they are threatening to beat them to a bloody pulp.

Our answer: “Make my day!”

In a rabid speech, Obama refused to negotiate over anything concerning the anti-gun ObamaCare law, notwithstanding the fact that even USA Today begrudgingly conceded this morning that it was a “rocky rollout” -- and that none of the health “exchanges” were ready to go on time.

Harry Reid echoed Obama. “They try to send us something back, they’re spinning their wheels,” Reid sputtered back.

Refusing to come to the table, Obama and Reid are counting on their media lapdogs to blame Republicans for not being reasonable.

But, yesterday, the House did exactly the right thing: It sent the Senate a government funding bill with a one-year delay of the unpopular mandate and a suspension of the illegal Obama-granted special ObamaCare exemption for Congress. It also suspended the destructive and unpopular “medical device tax” on children’s hearing aids and heart pacemakers.

But every Obama-owned institution in Washington is putting incredible pressure on the House to cave. So they need to hear from you.

ACTION: Click here to contact your congressman and urge him to hold firm on the House position on ObamaCare.
