[Photos] A Stroll Around 1969-1970 Saigon

Take a stroll through Saigon in 1969-1970 thanks to these black and white photos.

A native of New York, I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on May 1, 1969. During basic training I was selected to attend the Defense Language Institutes’ English language instructor course, which lasted six weeks. That was one facet of then-President Nixon’s “Vietnamization” program.

In September of 1969, I was sent to Vietnam to begin a one-year tour of duty as an English instructor. Along with my colleagues, I worked five hours a day, six days a week, with Sundays off. Prior to enlisting I had been working as an apprentice in a professional photography studio.

The short daily working hours afforded me the opportunity to roam around Saigon and environs shooting approximately 1,500 black and white and color photos. The film was purchased at the Cholon PX on Nguyen Tri Phuong Street. The black-and-white film was developed in a makeshift darkroom created by blocking out the window in the bathroom of my room and sealing the door as well.

[Photos] On the Road to Nha Trang in the 1960s, a Medley of Spartan Fields

 

If downtown Saigon was the epicenter of frenetic energy and urban chaos in the late 60s, you’d have been hard-pressed to find a crowd of more than five people or buildings with more than one floor once you hit the road and traversed Vietnam’s rural regions. (B.S.)

In this collection of colored film photos, taken by a photographer who is only known by his first name Michael, a few rare vestiges of life in the countryside are put on display for our viewing pleasures. The majority of the shots were taken at hamlets and small towns in Phan Rang on the road from southern Vietnam to Nha Trang.

We get glimpses of horse-drawn carriages, hay-scattered fields, street stalls selling confectionery and even a few aerial perspectives of the local mosaic of rice fields.

Rep. Duncan Hunter calls his prosecution a witch hunt

Rep. Duncan Hunter issued a statement today calling the prosecution of himself and his wife a witch hunt. Here is the statement in its entirety:

“I believe in our American system of justice, I support our system of justice. I cannot say the same, however, for those within our justice system that have a political agenda to harm those with whom they differ.

“One of the pillars of our country since its founding is that those tasked with enforcing the law would do so in an unbiased manner, allowing evidence to dictate how cases should run, with nothing impeding the rule of law. Unfortunately, this is not the case today. The fact is that there is a culture operating within our Justice Department that is politically motivated.

“We are seeing this with President Trump; we are seeing this with my case.

Nicolas Augustin Metoyer of Louisiana owned 13 slaves in 1830. He and his 12 family members collectively owned 215 slaves.

For me, the really fascinating questions about black slave-owning are how many black "masters" were involved, how many slaves did they own and why did they own slaves?

FITTON: Judicial Watch Contacted FBI With Evidence Hillary’s Server Was Hacked – FBI and Peter Strzok COVERED IT UP (VIDEO)

 

President of Judicial Watch Tom Fitton revealed in a weekly update that the watchdog group contacted the FBI in 2016 with information their investigators uncovered that suggest the Russians compromised Hillary Clinton’s private server—THE FBI DID NOTHING ABOUT IT.

 

Fitton first touched on Congressman Gohmert’s admission during the Peter Strzok hearing that a govt watchdog found that Hillary Clinton’s 30,000 emails were sent to a foreign entity unrelated to Russia–of course Peter Strzok and the FBI did nothing about it and never followed up.

Exclusive – Ann Coulter: Trump Represents What Liberals ‘Hate About America, Which Is Americans’

 

New York Times best-selling author and populist conservative columnist Ann Coulter says President Trump represents what the political Left and establishment media “hate about America, which is Americans” in an exclusive interview with SiriusXM Patriot’s Breitbart News Daily.

In an interview with Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow, Coulter said liberals have used immigration to demographically alter the United States in order to avoid having to “care about the middle part of the country.”
Coulter said:

He is a representative of what they hate about America, which is Americans. They hate the gun culture, they hate white men, they hate the middle part of America, and now with the demographic changes, they’ve wrought through immigration, they don’t really need to care about the middle part of the country.

They’ve got Wall Street, they’ve got Silicon Valley, they’ve got the coasts, so they can stop pretending to like… to care about people in Indiana. Their attack on Trump I think is just… they’re able to do it without having the slightest tinge of embarrassment about attacking the Wal-Mart set because he’s technically a rich man who’s president. They see him as the representative of everything they hate about America, which again, as I say, is Americans.

In September of 1961, I left my job at a basket factory in Wilmington, North Carolina and hitch-hiked up to Chapel Hill to become a student there. I followed in the path of UNC’s very first student, a boy named Hinton James, who had famously walked those roads up from Pender County back in 1789. As befits the first student at the first State University, he did not come by carriage.

My last ride was in the cab of a well-weathered farm truck. The grizzled driver wished me well and let me out in the middle of town. “You’ll like it here,” he told me with pride. “My little grandbaby went here and she became a schoolteacher!”

The entire charge of Cohen making a campaign contribution, or campaign finance violation, is a manufactured claim, made only by the SDNY, for political benefit 

 

The Michael Cohen plea agreement (full pdf here) is a total of eight counts claimed by the SDNY as unlawful activity.  However, one count is entirely political and not supported by the Federal Election Commission.  Guess which one the media focus on?

Imran Awan, the former IT aide to congressional Democrats whose federal bank fraud case has drawn the interest of top Republicans, avoided jail time Tuesday after the defense complained about disparaging comments made against the defendant by President Trump and others. During a hearing Tuesday in Washington, U.S. District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan sentenced Awan to three months of supervised release plus time served. Chutkan, who cited “unfounded allegations” against Awan, also did not impose a fine. More @ Fox

Reprising my first A Few Random Thoughts post.  All – hopefully – quotable.  And if you do use any of these, I’d greatly appreciate a linkback and/or HT to me.

My distrust of the Left has become so razor-keen that if a Democrat told me the sky was blue on clear, sunny days I’d run outside on the next such day with a color chart to check it.


Based on what I'm seeing & reading, the entirety of Trump's alleged collusion with the Russians consists of a cabal of high-level Democrats tossing metric f*cktons of smoke grenades, and then pointing to the billowing clouds and declaring "Where there's smoke there must be fire".

Border Security Homeland Security Budget for 2019 Does Not Include Border Wall Funding

In what can only be described as a betrayal of the American people, the Republican-controlled House Appropriations Subcommittee passed a Department of Homeland Security budget for 2019 that will not include funding for a border wall.

“As congressional disapproval climbs north of 90%, House members have again openly refused to provide the necessary funding even to scratch the surface of President Trump’s request to fund the wall,” wrote Tim Lyng in American Thinker. 

Lyng is the President of the Remembrance Project, which provides support for families with children who were killed by illegal immigrants.

Former FEC Chairman: Cohen Payment Did Not Violate Campaign Finance Law

 

Hush money sent to Stormy Daniels not directly related to Trump campaign

 

Former FEC Chairman Bradley Smith told radio host Mark Levin that the hush money payment President Trump instructed Michael Cohen to send to Stormy Daniels did not violate campaign finance laws.

Cohen pled guilty to eight counts, including two alleged campaign finance violations, involving payments to buy the silence of women who would have been detrimental to Trump’s bid for the presidency.

Smith told Levin that the payments were not directly campaign related and therefore not a violation of the law.

“When the FEC wrote the regulation that says what constitutes campaign expenditures and what constitutes personal use, it rejected specifically the idea that a campaign expenditure was anything related to a campaign, and instead says it has to be something that exists only because of the campaign and solely for that reason,” said Smith.
