It's been two weeks since the good folks of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho came
out to protect their local downtown district against any possible ANTIFA
antics. In these past days I have had a chance to talk to some people,
locals and visitors alike about their reaction to seeing SO MANY PEOPLE
on a 6 block strip, all armed. And I don't mean, concealed, I mean,
right out there in your face, big guns...Ak's, AR's, 12 gauge shotguns,
hand guns of every sort, and most people didn't just have one gun, they
had several. There were moms, dads, college students, army vets,
bikers, grandmas and grandpas and a variety of good ole boys. The main
street was was bumper to bumper with jacked up trucks with heavily armed
people riding in the bed, American flags flyings from their tailgates,
minivans, hybrid cars, old junkers and sparkling fancy cars, the scene
almost rivaled our famous Car d'Alene event. It really was something
that none of us in this quaint little tourist town had ever experienced!
I for one was so proud of our town that it actually brought tears to
my eyes. And when my sons informed me that they were going downtown to
help, I felt a twinge of anxiety mixed with extreme pride that they
wanted to be apart of this, to protect the community where they were
born and raised. To be clear, my sons are not members of the redneck,
good boy club that so many in the media are insisting the majority of
our residents are; one is finishing college in Aerospace Engineering and
the other a suit & tie wearing executive...so there was all walks
of life there.
The really interesting thing about that night is the
town was FULL of tourists. Coeur d'Alene is a tourist town and since
Idaho opened May 1st and many other places were still in a contrived
pandemic, HOSTAGE situation, by June 1st we were pretty full or folks
looking for, some, "normal." Not sure this is what they expected.
Many
conservative sites are warning of disaster for the GOP in the 2020
elections—and they are blaming Donald Trump. Well, to be fair, in a way
they’re right. Prior to Trump, conservatives had no other option but to
vote Republican or stay home. And given the fact that even as the
“lesser of two evils,” the Republican candidate had to be better than
his or her Democratic opponent, this was the ongoing situation despite
the fact that most elected Republicans were as useful as balls on a cow
in stemming the Democrat rush to the left. During Obama’s illegitimate
reign they played lap-dog and lickspittle to all of his communist trash
even allowing “Chief Judas” Roberts to find Obamacare constitutional by
ruling it a tax when in fact, taxes can only be levied by the House!
Yet, for all of the Republican party’s failure to stop the leftward
drive of the country, Republicans were still elected simply because
there was no alternative—until Donald Trump!
With the election of
someone outside of the control of the Deep State, congressional
Republicans—in fact all Republicans—found themselves in a real quandary.
They had won “big time!” They had prevailed against the entire Deep
State, the Media, the Clintons, the Obamas and the alphabet bureaucracy
only to find that the safe good old days of being the “loyal opposition”
to the Democrat Left was no longer available to them! What to do?! What
to do?! Why become “Never Trumpers,” of course! And that is what they
did—and that’s why they’re in trouble!
American conservatives
have determined that voting for the GOP is not going to end the steady
leftward march of the nation and so they’re not going to put these
people back in office—and that is a disaster for the Republican Party!
True, if conservatives stay home or only vote for Trump and those who
have supported him, more Democrats will be elected. But what difference
does it make if the Democrats prevail with or without the Republicans?
It is akin to that old Spanish proverb, “Whether the rock hits the
pitcher or the pitcher hits the rock, it’s the worse for the pitcher.”
Are there any Republicans at least in the federal government who
support Donald Trump? Yes, but very few. Apparently, Marco Rubio, once
considered a “safe” conservative, voted against Trump’s efforts to build
the wall. Shame on you, sir! Rand Paul, a high-profile conservative,
has also refused to support the President’s call for a national
emergency to fund the wall. Apparently, he doesn’t see one though only
the blind and the dead cannot see what this ongoing invasion is doing to
the nation. Shame on you sir! It is this sort of behavior that is going
to guarantee a victory for the New Communist (aka Democratic) Party for
the foreseeable future—or until there no longer is a future.
The
majority of ordinary, decent Americans put Donald Trump in office in
hopes of stemming the corruption of the Deep State. So far, Mr. Trump
has done his best within the limits of his office without any support
from the rest of his party and in the face of ongoing massive media
disinformation and government corruption. Meanwhile, he is blamed for
everything from terrorist attacks to sunspots while his only defenders
are those who voted him into office in the first place.
Will the
Democrats win back everything in 2020? Between the current situation and
massive voter fraud, it is more than possible. However, Donald Trump
won’t be to blame if they do. It will simply be that the election of Mr.
Trump was too little, too late to save this nation.
Chinese dictator Xi Jinping signed a decree on
Tuesday enacting a “national security” law that allows the Communist
Party to antagonize and prosecute dissidents in Hong Kong, triggering
global condemnation and widespread concern among participants in the
Hong Kong pro-democracy movement.
The city – technically part of a China, but legally autonomous from
Beijing – has experienced over a year of ongoing protests against
China’s many attempts to undermine the “One Country, Two Systems” policy
that allows Hongkongers the right to free speech and free assembly. The
protest movement took off in mid-2019 in response to a proposed law in
the Hong Kong Legislative Council (LegCo) that would have allowed China
to extradite anyone present in the city if accused of violating
Communist Party laws, which include prison sentences for crimes like
“picking quarrels and provoking trouble.”
The Russian philosopher Alexander Dugin lists three kinds of identity in his book Eurasian Mission
– diffused, extreme, and deep. The diffused identity is vague and
unconscious so it contributes little to a person’s or a society’s way of
viewing himself or itself or the world (Eurasian Mission: An Introduction to Neo-Eurasianism,
Arktos, U.K., 2014, p. 116). It resembles the mindset of Andrew
Lytle’s ‘momentary man’, who is aware only of the concerns and pleasures
of the present hour. \
The extreme identity ‘is an arbitrary and artificial creation of some
rational formula that pretends to express and manifest the diffused
identity in the intellectual realm. Here the identity becomes an
ideology, a conceptual framework, or a theory’ (Ibid.). This should
sound disturbingly familiar to Southerners, as it describes precisely
the Yankee ideology of ‘Americanism’, of America as a proposition
nation. Accordingly, it equates ideological speculations with the
essence of a people, which can only lead to the obscuring and/or
disfiguring of the real identity of that people (Ibid.).
The deep identity, however, is different. It is the true self:
Socialism appears to be on the rise in our country, particularly among the young, and we want to understand the extent of that support.

The Slander of a Gallant Soldier, Noble Patriot, and True Christian With Rejoinder by President Dwight D. Eisenhower
On June 11, General Jack Keane, U.S. Army (ret.) appeared on at least
two evening Fox News shows. Although he agreed with President Trump’s
position not to rename Army bases named for Confederate generals, for
some reason, he went out of his way to condemn Confederates, including
Robert E. Lee as traitors. I saw it on Shannon Bream’s show. This was in
the midst of wave after wave of wanton mob destruction of not only
Confederate monuments but American monuments generally. Having had a
high opinion of Keane as a military analyst, I was shocked that he
apparently knew so little about what the Southern cause really
was—independence for a number of strong economic, taxation,
constitutional, and general fairness reasons—and that he would
specifically slander Robert E. Lee as a traitor.
FindLaw explains,
“This legal doctrine assumes that if an invader disrupts the sanctity
of your home, they intend to do you harm and therefore you should be
able to protect yourself or others against an attack. Missouri’s law is
more extensive than those of other states because it allows you to use
deadly force to attack an intruder
to protect any private property that you own, in addition to yourself
or another individual. This means that if someone illegally enters your
front porch or backyard, you can use deadly force against them without
retreating first.”
“At any point that you enter the property, they
can then, in Missouri, use deadly force to get you off the lawn,” said
Walker, adding.....
The Democrat Party began attacking Mount Rushmore on Monday night
from their official Twitter account and referred to upcoming
Independence Day celebrations at the famed monument as “glorifying white
supremacy.”
“Trump has disrespected Native communities time and
again,” the Democrats wrote. “He’s attempted to limit their voting
rights and blocked critical pandemic relief. Now he’s holding a rally
glorifying white supremacy at Mount Rushmore – a region once sacred to
tribal communities.”
So much for all those crocodile fears about the end of abortion
rights. The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 Monday that a state can’t even
require abortion providers to have admitting privileges at a hospital.
And the logic of the concurring opinion from Chief Justice John Roberts,
who provided the fifth vote, suggests not even de minimis regulation
of abortion will survive his Court’s scrutiny.
A woman’s right to abortion wasn’t at issue in June Medical Services v. Russo.
No woman seeking an abortion was a plaintiff. The case was brought by
abortion providers, who claimed that Louisiana’s requirement that they
have admitting privileges at a hospital would be an undue burden on the
ability of women to obtain an abortion.
Here’s the stunner: Four years ago a different Court majority
overturned a similar Texas statute, with then Justice Anthony Kennedy
joining the four liberals. Chief Justice Roberts dissented in that case.
Yet on Monday the Chief joined the liberals, citing his duty to follow
precedent.
This is a slightly updated version of something I first wrote and
published on February 17, 2011. It could be considered an illustration
of my personal motto – Not for Our Time, but for All Time. Not for All People, but for Our People – and it remains one of my favorites.
One cannot be a vocal advocate of the Southern people, and our
heritage and culture, without encountering the topic of race on a
regular basis. It shouldn’t be that way but it is, so it must be
confronted head-on.
We have all been hearing recently about the concept of White
Privilege – what our accusers seem to define as an unearned, unmerited
advantage that Whites have over other races. To that I answer, “Guilty
As Charged.”
Let’s look at this White Privilege that gives me an “unfair” advantage over others:
That’s essentially the message that a group of sheriffs in North
Carolina are sending to the governor over what they believe are
unconstitutional mask orders.
Across the country, a number of governors have issued Executive Orders mandating the use of masks while in the public.
The majority of these orders specify that persons who cannot be a
minimum of six feet apart and indoors must wear a mask or face a fine or
imprisonment. No one disputes that the numbers of positive cases have
grown recently, but there is dispute as to what those numbers really
mean.
“The problem with Lincoln is the problem with America,” said my
friend Clyde Wilson when I asked him for a blurb for my new book, The Problem with Lincoln (Regnery, 2020). That in fact is the theme of the book, written seventeen years after my first book on the subject, The Real Lincoln (TRL), as I shall explain. How was Lincoln “worse”; let us count the ways. Lincoln was in fact

North, in other words) than I argued in TRL. This speaks volumes not
just of Lincoln but of the Lincoln cult in academe that has covered up
these truths for generations. In The Problem with Lincoln I
document page after page of his own statements and declarations
demonstrating this point, something that should inspire the current crop
of left-wing “protesters,” arsonists, and vandals to begin dismantling
all the Lincoln statues that scar the land.

the onetime national security adviser's lawyer is putting a spotlight on

Sidney Powell disclosed in an interview that Flynn was prepared to
expose massive corruption by U.S. intelligence agencies under Obama, led
by then-CIA Director John Brennan.

100 Professors at Washington & Lee University
are calling for the removal of General Robert E. Lee’s from the
university’s name. In 1870 the university’s name was changed from
Washington University after Lee assumed the role of university
president.
According to a report
by Campus Reform, faculty members at Washington & Lee University
are calling for a change to the university’s name. The report claims
that more than 100 professors at the university have called on
administrators to erase the university’s relationship with Robert E.
Lee. The most significant change would involve changing the university’s
name.
I was once told if we’re not careful, 2 percent of the passionate
will control 98 percent of the indifferent 100 percent of the time.
The more I’ve thought about this phrase, the more I believe it. There
is now a small group of passionate people working hard to destroy our
American way of life. Treason and treachery are rampant and our rule of
law and those law enforcement professionals who uphold our laws are
under the gun more than at any time in our nation’s history. These
passionate 2 percent appear to be winning.
Despite there being countless good people trying to come to grips
with everything else on their plates, our silent majority (the
indifferent) can no longer be silent.

“shot heard round the world”, each of us must ask himself the one

scientific community and pharmaceutical industry to downplay and lie
about the use of a successful drug to treat a deadly disease.
Forget the bizarre and evil concept of national original sin that is

President Donald Trump announced late Friday that his administration
would be enforcing federal provisions demanding that cities and states
protect monuments paid for by the federal government and threatening
those who pull down monuments with “long prison time.”
Trump
tweeted about the executive order on Saturday, calling it a “strong”
response to efforts, across the country, to pull down monuments deemed
“racist” or “controversial.”

The Simcoe Compromise bill of July 1793 did not free any slaves in
then-Upper Canada, but did forbid the importation of slaves into that
Province. Ironically, once Michigan was incorporated as a US territory
in 1805, slaves escaping from Upper Canada were fleeing across the
border – by 1806 there were sufficient free blacks in Detroit for form
their own militia unit, as would be the case in New Orleans and its

serve in the American Civil War, and for the South.

How long can this nation survive when its main cultural and
educational institutions preach a relentless, unchallenged stream of
anti-Americanism to young people (and others) who lack the background to

Along with others, I have long argued that
the American left has a major problem with America as founded. Yet
Democrats are outraged by the suggestion, and too many Republicans seem
insufficiently concerned about it. They better wake up.
So cheer up, I know a lot of people are feeling and even saying that
Trump’s chances aren’t looking so good lately. Even the Wifely Unit was
saying it yesterday.

incompetence, indifference and downright impotence of governors, mayors
and others responsible for the protection of citizens and their property
have been more evident, disappointing and disgusting."

The time swiftly is coming in America when everyone will be forced to
"pick a side" in what has become "an all-out socialist attack on our
Republic," says country rock superstar Charlie Daniels.

"When you get past the very thin patina of 'peaceful' protest and look
beyond the fallacy that violence and destruction brings about racial
equality, you have to come to the conclusion that there is a radical
fringe of people who would literally burn this country down, given the
opportunity."
Two years ago, I criticized President Trump for his endless attacks on then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Now, Attorney General William Barr is being similarly attacked by Trump critics, and some media coverage shows the same kind of blind rage without reason.
While
I have criticized Barr for some of his policies and actions, he is
someone I have known personally for years and even represented with
other attorneys general in the Clinton impeachment litigation. Piling on
Barr has never been more popular — but the basis for this criticism has
never been weaker. Three particular news stories seemed to break
entirely free from any factual or legal moorings, and no one seemed to
care.
As someone who came to the Southern Conservative tradition late this
moment feels very strange. I have inculcated affection for the South my
whole life without living there very often, or even knowing it was the
South that I was pledging allegiance to. But it keeps turning out that
everything I value, everything I believe, is deeply Southern. Yet my
affection comes at a distance. I call myself a Southern Conservative
because I don’t think Conservativism can be dislocated, there is no
general form of Conservatism. It always needs description. And yet for
someone who describes himself as Southern I have not been located very
often within the South.
As the monuments come down I see the obvious folly but do not feel
much in the way of sadness or anger. It is easy to be angry at cowards
like Rich Lowry who have made a career out of compromise with the
American left and consistently betrayed Conservatism. It only takes
reading a little bit of the incomparable Paul Gottfried to understand
just how distorted “movement Conservatism” has always been. The NeoCons
and “Capitalists” really took over in the mid twentieth century and
National Review rarely looked back. Russel Kirk was spilling ink over
their Straussian heads the whole time.

A National Institution
“It would be a task of many pages if I attempted to give a full account of the origin and causes of slavery in Africa. As a national institution, it seems to have existed always. Africans have been bondsmen everywhere: and the oldest monuments bear their images linked with menial toils and absolute servitude.
England to-day, with all her philanthropy, sends, under the Cross of St. George, to convenient magazines of lawful commerce on the [African] coast, Birmingham muskets, Manchester cottons, and Liverpool lead, all of which are righteously swapped at Sierra Leone, Acra, and on the Gold Coast, for Spanish or Brazilian bills on London.
Yet what British merchant does not know the traffic on which those bills are founded, and for whose support his wares are purchased? Such may be said to be the predominating influence that supports the African slave trade; yet, if commerce of all kinds were forbidden with that continent, the customs and laws of the natives would still encourage slavery as a domestic affair, though of course in a very modified degree.
A slave is a note of hand that may be discounted or pawned; he is still a bill of exchange that carries him to his destination and pays the debt bodily . . . Thus, slavery is not likely to be surrendered by the Negroes themselves as a national institution.”

Police made several arrests after a group of
Black Lives Matter protesters marched through a Beverly Hills
residential neighborhood Friday night.
“Videos and photographs of the mob flooded social media as they shouted various messages throughout the residential neighborhood and tore down American flags,” the Daily Wire reported.
It appears that the Mississippi Legislature is faced with a “full court press” involving an assortment of sports magnates, big business types, celebrities, well as a "who's who " list of past and current Republican officeholders all in a quest to change our state flag.
And all of this is being done under the rubrics of “tolerance, inclusion and peace.” It’s a “fool’s errand” for the simple reason that any design they come up with will likely not pass muster with the Leftist malcontents. They may have something in mind, or they may not because BLM is a Marxist organization bent on revolution. The Alinsky rules are quite clear— no compromises with opponents only complete submission.
The sad thing is that those who would compromise away of our history are only interested in placating the monster before us. Their excuses for such behavior are various. They likely want to avoid any potentially barbarous actions— such as looting and vandalism. They would like to have football this fall without the loss of players or coaches. Oh, and business deals, let's not forget them either— the ol' quid pro quo of “get rid of the flag and we'll bring commerce your way.” There is nothing sacred and no principle which will not be sacrificed to these beasts among us and all for profit or preference.
Needless to say this will end badly if the Legislature gives in— and I don't mean regarding just the issue of changing the flag. There will be endless harangues by Leftists who will press the “powers that be” to give up even more, which they will. And on that account, we will all learn again the hard lesson of September, 1939: that appeasement does not work as it only encourages the appeased to push for more concessions.
I cannot but believe that many of the destroyed, disfigured and disgraced statues and monuments were GOVERNMENT property; those that were in public places but technically 'private' property had 'privileged' position, and had a right to government protection.
They had long since been awarded government recognition for their historical and cultural significance. Am I to understand that the Missions in San Antonio, would be allowed to fall to the ravages of the bolshevik mobs? "For Floyd"? Will they be allowed to burn USS Constitution at Boston 'just 'cause'?
The revolutionary horde burnt private AND PUBLIC property, looted private AND PUBLIC property, killed private citizens AND PUBLIC EMPLOYEES. Yes, Trump could have, and should have acted under several authorities - Commander in Chief; to call out the Militia to preserve public order and protect public property. Chief Executive Officer, SWORN TO UPHOLD THE LAW, to deputize local law enforcement and break the riots at first blood.
To say I'm disappointed is to put it mildly. I see a very tired man, whose age is catching up with him, and whose burdens grow heavier by the day. I also see a weary executive who is ill served by his advisors and staff. That the Bushes hate him and their cohort blocks Trump at every turn, that Romney Rinos hate him and block his every effort, and that the Dungrats are in active rebellion would wear down Gibraltar. I've had a sneaking suspicion he would withdraw before the election and leave it to Pence, if he's not assassinated first.

Senate Bill 704 Temporarily Authorizes Masks in Public for Health & Safety Due to COVID-19.
With
the enactment in May, 2020 of Section 4 of Senate Bill 704, a person is
now temporarily authorized to wear a mask in public and on private
premises (such as in a shopping mall) for the “purpose of ensuring the
physical health or safety of the wearer or others.” The person wearing a
mask for health or safety reasons must remove the mask upon the request
of a law enforcement officer during a traffic stop (including at a
checkpoint or roadblock) or criminal investigation.
This
temporary authorization only applies to the misdemeanors described
above but DOES NOT apply to the felonies described above.
This
temporary authorization expires on August 1, 2020. If the General
Assembly does not extend this temporary provision of law, it will again
be a Class 1 misdemeanor for any person to wear a mask in public
(including those with a concealed handgun permit whether or not they are
carrying a concealed handgun) unless one of the other exceptions
described above applies.
First off, thank you for the many informative posts that have helped in my education of our shared history.
I write in a moment of sadness as the last truly Southern state flag will in all likelihood be history tomorrow.
Our worthless legislatures in the once great state of Mississippi will hold a vote on removing our long honored state flag. This beautiful flag reminded us of our past so it must not be allowed to stand. I am not so wed to our state symbol that a change would be unconscionable, but as usual feckless men will not allow a statewide referendum. This is what troubles me more than which flag will fly atop our capitol.
Back in 2001 we had a referendum in which the good citizens of our state voted to keep our historical flag unchanged. This time, however, weak men fear the same outcome so they will deny the citizens a voice as all vassal rulers do when pleasing their overlords is not assured.
It is a sad state of affairs in this once proud state. Municipal governments removing Confederate monuments to the simple soldier who answered the call of the state never to return and are called all sorts of disgusting and grotesque things as if these simpletons understood one iota of what these brave men thought or went through. The once proud University of Mississippi will remove it's Confederate monument in an attempt to erase the men who founded the college. They were once called the Ole Miss Rebels with Colonel Reb as the mascot playing "Dixie" and waiving the St. Andrews cross. No more. All have been whittled away over time. One symbol at a time over thirty years. The original founding class composed entirely of war veterans means nothing to these Marxists.
An old friend from the north is distraught over the destruction of Grant, Washington, Columbus and so forth. I simply responded "If you wouldn't defend Lee, why are you surprised ." After all, of all the notable southern personalities, Lee should be the easiest to defend simply due to his unquestionable honor and the respect his adversaries on the battlefield held for him before, during and after that horrible conflict.
Our destructive media constantly accepts the the destruction of Southern monuments as permissible even when condemning the destruction of their own. They use phrases such as "It's not even a Confederate statue" or "He fought for the union." Each failing to realize that condoning one actually leads to the next. One commentator said he found every Confederate monument "despicable, disgusting and reprehensible." and then said mobs shouldn't tear them down but they should come down after due process. In other words, they must come down.
The hatred and vitriol toward the Southern man is the worst I've seen in my fifty some odd years. Patrick Buchanan recently wrote in an article titled "Cancel the White Man - and What's Left?" that we are in a "second reconstruction." I rarely disagree with him, but I believe we are in a Maoist Cultural Revolution.
What can we do? Well, stay firm in the truth, pray to almighty God daily, teach your children well and always be prepared for battle should it be necessary because I do believe in divine providence. A nation that walks away from God is a nation no more.

The Washington Post article, "Destroying Confederate monuments isn't 'erasing' history. It's learning from it."1 by African American associate professor Keisha N. Blain of the University of Pittsburgh, proves that not only does the Washington Post peddle in fake news, it peddles fake history.
Professor
Blain's contention in the short article is that "Confederate monuments,
as well as Confederate-named Army bases, are modern inventions meant to
distort history and celebrate a racist past" because:

symbols serve one primary purpose - to honor figures of the past who
upheld an undemocratic vision of America. They were created by white
supremacists. And they function as a balm for white supremacists who
long to return to a period when Americans regarded black people as
property.
This is a silly, self-important view of history by a person obsessed with race.

new steps on Friday to combat the extremists who have been wreaking
havoc across the country in recent weeks and to protect America’s
monuments.
Trump tweeted late on Friday, “I just had the privilege
of signing a very strong Executive Order protecting American Monuments,
Memorials, and Statues – and combatting recent Criminal Violence. Long
prison terms for these lawless acts against our Great Country!”

Attorney General William Barr told “Verdict with Ted Cruz” this week
that the Department of Justice has hundreds of investigations underway
into the violent riots that have occurred across the country in recent
weeks, including investigations into the far-left extremist organization
Antifa.
“The federal government is best positioned to address
this kind of violence and lawlessness after it occurs because we don’t
have FBI agents walking the beat,” Barr said. “And in fact, when the
real violence started around May 25, 26, and so forth, we started using
our joint terrorist task forces around the country. And there are 35 of
them around the country. It involves all state and local in those
jurisdictions and all the federal agencies. And it’s the system we
designed to follow terrorists.
And now they are starting to go full
bore, cranking out investigations, indictments against the people
who
are involved in this violence.”
And he did so in spite of—in open violation of—the Heritage Protection
Act [Monuments Protection Act] of 2015 [G.S. § 100-2.1] which
specifically enjoined and forbade the removal of North Carolina’s
historic monuments by any level of government authority.
Governor Roy Cooper of North Carolina comes across as a nice man,
well-mannered, calm, the kind of man you would want as a neighbor and,
yes, as a friend. He seems unthreatening in how he speaks, always with a
very slight but perceptible eastern North Carolina accent. In short,
he radiates a down home “you can trust me” charm.
Except for one thing: it’s all a façade, false, a mask hiding a far
darker side of his character. His likable demeanor disguises an
individual—North Carolina’s chief executive officer—who has been largely
responsible for giving the green light to looting, mob violence, and
the blatant destruction of symbols and artifacts of our history.
What
fun, what entertainment. And rare: One seldom sees the collapse of a
landmark society in a rush of wondrous idiocy. Would I could sell
tickets. Don’t look at it as a loss, but as a show, an unwanted but
grand amusement.
The
coup de grace in our ripening decadence is the current uprising
purportedly, though implausibly, over racism. But never mind. The causes
don’t matter. The deal is done.
Still,
it is interesting to recognize that the protesters are, perhaps
deliberately, confusing the incapacity of blacks with systemic racism.
In truth, America has made the greatest effort ever essayed by one race
to uplift another. Reflect: In 1954 an entirely white Supreme Court
unanimously ended segregation. Later it found the use of IQ tests by
employers illegal because blacks scored poorly, then found “affirmative
action,” racial discrimination against whites, legal (hardly oppression
of blacks, this). An overwhelmingly white Congress passed the Civil
Rights Act in 1964, the Voting Rights Act the next year. A white
President sent troops to Little Rock to enforce desegregation. There has
been an enormous flow of charity to blacks: Section Eight Housing,
AFDC, Head Start, hiring quotas, set-asides, sharply lowered standards
in police and fire departments. We now have free breakfasts for black
children, then free lunches, in addition to outright welfare. In
aggregate they resemble a distributed guaranteed basic income. Which is
interesting.
Only about one-in-six protesters over the last
month are black Americans, while the plurality are white, according to
Pew Research Center analysis.
Though recent protests and riots have been centered around racial
tensions with law enforcement, only 17 percent of protesters have been
black, while 46 percent are white, 22 percent are Hispanic, and eight
percent are Asian, the analysis shows.
