NC: Ocracoke Fig Cake Bake-Off
As most of our readers know, Hurricane Arthur was not kind to our planned Fourth of July Celebration. But Ocracokers are a resilient bunch of people. Several of the cancelled activities have been re-scheduled.
Next Friday, August 15, 2014, from 3-5 pm the Ocracoke Civic & Business Association will host a Fig Cake Bake-Off. Bring your cake to the Community Square.
There will be two award categories: Traditional and Innovative
At 6pm I will be calling a traditional Ocracoke Island Square Dance. Molasses Creek will provide live music. Fig Cake Bake-Off Awards and Announcements are scheduled for 7 pm, followed by a Dance with the Ocracoke Rockers 8-10pm!

North Carolina Begins Quarantine Procedure for Ebola Exposed Missionaries
Via Michael via NC Renegade
The disease which could cause a nightmare which would shut down the entire economic engine of the United States and the West is finally starting to be treated seriously. The first outbreak of Ebola was traced to a two year old girl in Guinea according to a New York Times article on Saturday, August 9th, yet the US government has failed to deal with this threat seriously and the ongoing concern expressed by some members of the mainstream media as well as those of us in the alternative media has been ignored.
Tonight the state of North Carolina became the first of what I expect many state governments to act according to the Voice of America News:

The politically correct crowd takes offense, offensively: Getting your feelings hurt is the new national pastime
Via SHNV
Finding something to be offended by has replaced baseball as the national pastime. The controversy over calling the Washington Redskins the Redskins has subsided now that the season is getting underway (the ‘Skins won their exhibition opener), and there will soon be enough real Redskins news to distract attention from the terminally vexed.

Manufactured Lies Passing as History
Long
before the Fort Sumter collision at Charleston, efforts to avoid armed
conflict were pursued by the South to settle its differences with the
North and avoid bloodshed. From the Crittenden Compromise of late 1860
to the Confederate commissioners sent to Washington in March of 1861, to
the Hampton Roads Conference of February 1865, the Southern statesmen
worked diligently to both avert and end the war. There is no question
that as one reviews the timeline of peace initiatives and conferences
that one side wanted peace, and the other wanted war.

Manufactured Lies Passing as History
“After
all, President Coolidge’s first installment of our history to set off
Borglum’s group on a Western mountainside [Mt. Rushmore] did not please
the sculptor, and he wrote the history himself which is to be chiseled
in stone and go down the ages! Who can say that it was not least as
good as the ex-President’s?
At Gettysburg, on May 30,
President [Herbert] Hoover exhibited to a marked degree that strange
ignorance or that determined avoidance of the truth of history which we
see when a speaker has to place Abraham Lincoln in that niche which had
been fashioned for him by what Mr. Mencken calls “prostitute
historians,” and which has now been accepted by the North, by the world,
and even by the larger part of the South, which is both servile and
ignorant, and yet it is a niche which shames truth and degrades history!
[Hoover]
stated, in effect, that all the blood and horror and tears of the
“Civil” War might have been avoided had the people been possessed of the
human kindness and tolerance of Abraham Lincoln.
There
could scarcely have been fashioned a statement which would have done
more violence to the truth. The veriest tyro in history research must
know that Abraham Lincoln was a part of, and largely cooperated with,
that group which thought that “a little bloodletting will be good for
this nation.”
Everyone
not an ignoramus in Southern history must know that Lincoln opposed
sending delegates to that compromise or peace convention which might, at
the last moment, have devised some means for avoidance of the
holocaust. Everyone not determined to make a point at expense of truth
must know that Lincoln, secretly, determinedly, and almost alone, sent
that fleet of reinforcements and supplies to Fort Sumter, and thus, as
five of his cabinet had told him, brought on the war inevitably.
Lincoln
did much to inaugurate war, and there is no word of history which sets
forth the fact that he did any act or uttered any word which would have
avoided war, and yet, in a speech which was to reach the ears of the
world, President Hoover, at Gettysburg, makes the statement, totally
devoid of accuracy, that we might have avoided war had we been possessed
of the human kindness and tolerance of Abraham Lincoln, the man who
more than any other, or any group of others, is responsible, as worthy
historians now set forth, for the inauguration of four years of horror
in this country.
We
sometimes wonder if the Yankees do not get weary themselves of this
incessant round of prevarication, or are they so steeped in this false
history that they cannot see the truth. We know of many instances,
which have come directly to our knowledge, where they refuse the truth
when it is demonstrated to them. But are all of them that way?
Or
is it just a part of the price, this living lie, which we, as a
conquered people here in the South, must pay in order to establish the
truth of that time-old statement which sets forth that a conquered
people must have their history written by their conquerors, as has been
done since Ur of the Chaldees, and submit, gracefully or otherwise, to
the inevitable sequence of this, that our history shall be nothing but
manufactured lies.”

A Terrifying Beauty – the Art of Piotr Forkasiewicz

In the black of night of June 8, 1944, two days after the D-Day invasions of Normandy, the dark hulk of a four-engined Lancaster bomber of 15 Squadron, Royal Air Force, trailing a blow-torching curtain of livid flame, lurches heavily into a dive over the French countryside, a few miles to the west of Paris. The flame is bright enough to illuminate the farms below in a pale and ghostly light. The big bomber is dying, her lifeblood streaming in angry, high octane sheets from her starboard wing fuel tanks.
Behind the Lancaster, a Luftwaffe night fighter follows her down to finish her off. Its cannons hammer continuously at the British aircraft, while their tracer rounds rocket and shriek past, trailing smoke, lit by the burning, streaming wounds of the Lanc. Beneath the Lancaster, escape hatches open and crew members, abandoning the dying aircraft while they can, tumble out into the slipstream like rag dolls. On the top side of the Lancaster, however, the mid-upper gunner, Robbie Aitken, with his back to the approaching French farmland, empties his ammunition boxes into the German, giving time for his crew to get out of the mortally wounded aircraft. The searing muzzle flashes of his twin Brownings stab the night like dragons, likely blinding the young gunner. Hot brass shell casings tumble unseen in the darkness to thud heavily into fields and villages below, while oily grey smoke, ghosted by the streaming funeral pyres, wakes behind from two of her engines.
The sound is the sound of hell. Four thundering Merlin engines. The foundry shriek and snap of wind-whipped flame. The rip-saw burp of Aitken's 303 Brownings. The heavy thump of the night fighter's cannons. And perhaps above it all, the angry scream of Aitken as he fights to the end of his ammunition.

Federal Judge Rules AR-15′s Are “Dangerous and Unusual,” Not Protected by 2nd Amendment
Via L&P
In what looks to be a terrible ruling for Maryland gun owners a federal judge has essentially ruled that guns that were regulated by the state of Maryland last year, including AR-15 and AK style rifles (as well as other magazine fed, semi-auto rifles with certain features), “fall outside Second Amendment protection as dangerous and unusual arms,” according to a 47 page opinion by U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake.
The case in question is Kolbe et al v. O’Malley et al which named numerous plaintiffs including the Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore, Maryland Licensed Firearms Dealers Association, Maryland State Rifle and Pistol Association, and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), among others which challenged the constitutionality of Maryland’s strict new gun laws.
Here are some of Blake’s other comments [emphasis mine],

Body Armor Scare & Our New Home
Via WiscoDave
There has been a lot of consternation on the net & blogs regarding the “Responsible Body Armor Possession Act” HR5344, introduced by Rep Mike Honda (D – California) on 31 July. The bill would prohibit civilians from buying or owning armor (including vests, shields and other items) rated Type III or higher on the NIJ’s penetration resistance scale. (Their exact wording, not mine.)
This is a typical BS style of bill introduced by those who wish to 1) insure that their special class is exempt from a law, 2) infringe on the liberty of free Americans, and 3) package it with a title that sounds “nice”. This is the standard MO of those who love the state more than the individual.
This has virtually zero chance of passing. Zero.

US Sanctions on Russia May Sink the Dollar: Ron Paul
The US government's decision to apply more sanctions on Russia is a grave mistake and will only escalate an already tense situation, ultimately harming the US economy itself. While the effect of sanctions on the dollar may not be appreciated in the short term, in the long run these sanctions are just another step toward the dollar's eventual demise as the world's reserve currency.

Dictionary.com scorches homeschoolers: 'If you wish to teach your children such nonsense …'
Dictionary.com, the popular destination for writers seeking definitions and synonyms, contains some scathing commentary on homeschooling.
“If you want to keep your kids from reality and turn them into mindless automaton copies of yourself,” the site declares, “homeschool them.”
The pointed statement is just one of three potentially offensive sentences that could be found on the site as late as Tuesday morning as examples for how to use “homeschool” in a sentence.
“If you wish to teach your children such nonsense,” another of the sentences declares, “then homeschool where lame propaganda can remain unchallenged.”
“If she can’t find anyone willing to validate her helicopter parenting,” lists a third, “she’ll homeschool.”

NATO Baiting Russia into War?
Via Susan
Russia is consistently portrayed in the Western media as the "aggressor" amid the ongoing Ukrainian conflict, however, it is clear through overt moves by NATO's proxy regime in Kiev, that attempts are being made to intentionally provoke, not defend against Moscow's ire.
The New York Times, in a recent article admits that the military campaign Kiev is carrying out against its own citizens in eastern Ukraine is overt brutality carried out by literal flag-waving Nazis, with the all but stated goal of provoking a Russian invasion.
Brutal Provocations
The New York Times in an article titled, "Ukraine Strategy Bets on Restraint by Russia," states:
