Gargoyles Then and Now
Via Valerie Protopapas "Medieval sculptors knew about demons. They created statues of them called gargoyles. Lest we think that they were ignorant and superstitious, their work remains perfectly legitimate today."
Tiger’s Meat: William Gilmore Simms and the History of the Revolution
In the early days of the United States, Founding Father Alexander Hamilton remarked: “The safety of a republic depends essentially on the energy of a common national sentiment.” The common national sentiment—among American peoples diverse in economic interests, folkways, and political agendas—mainly rested on a fraternal sense of the shared perils and triumphs of the War of Independence, prior to which British America had been little more than a geographical expression and which all Americans recognized as an event of world importance.
In the antebellum years most decent Americans shared in and gloried in this fraternal sense, as did Simms, that is, until it was destroyed, as I shall relate, by Northern chauvinism which reinterpreted the Revolutionary experience as part of an aggressive, highly partisan cultural and economic agenda. I hope to put Simms’s writings on the Revolution, his controversies with Northern historians, and his aborted 1856 Northern lecture tour, which has been well described by Prof. Miriam Shillingsburg, into a new and larger context.

Don't Get Conned by the Neocons on the Constitution
So, smart moms in two homeschool social-media groups of which I’m a member are super-excited about Hillsdale College’s free “Constitution 101” course. “Hillsdale’s conservative, so it must be teaching Christian-centered history,” they say.
“Hillsdale doesn’t accept grants from the federal government or participate in federal financial-aid or student-loan programs. How principled,” they opine. “Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levine both endorse Hillsdale as being an ‘authority on the Constitution’, so it must be quality curriculum,” they hope.
Hey now, not so fast. Let’s not take all these assumptions on face value.

Listen for yourself, if you feel like being offended.
A couple of years ago, when everybody suddenly noticed Civil War monuments all over the place, the Hollywood Forever Cemetery removed a Confederate memorial that had been there for over 90 years without hurting anybody. As Stephen Kruiser notes, the New York Yankees have stopped playing Kate Smith's version of "God Bless America" during games. Because it's so painful to listen to? No. You see, back in the 1930s, Smith also sang songs with titles like "That's Why Darkies Were Born" and "Pickaninny Heaven," and somehow nobody knew or cared for the better part of a century. But now we do know and we do care. Or else.
Listen for yourself, if you feel like being offended.

“Trump’s election is now the most verifiably legitimate election in history."
No other campaign has endured the kind of scrutiny that the Trump team has withstood. For nearly two years, 19 lawyers and 40 investigators questioned some 500 witnesses worldwide. They issued 500 search warrants and 2,800 subpoenas,” Abe Greenwald writes. “There was no underlying crime.”

Greece: A "No-Go" Zone in Athens?
Via Billy
"[T]he neighborhood has... platoons, companies, battalions, Kalashnikovs. I don't know any more if we, as a police force, have the political mandate to clear the area. This region is a matter for the army now." — Stavros Balaskas, vice president of the Greek Federation of Police Officers, April 6, 2019.
"...[T]here are now too many illegal immigrants in Exarchia who are drug traffickers [and] gun traffickers... they have essentially taken over the whole place." — Michalis Chrysochoidis, a former Greek Minister of Citizen Protection, who was responsible for the 2002 dismantling of the "November 17" domestic terrorist organization, April 8, 2019
In Exarchia, these groups -- which conduct criminal activities and terrorize local residents -- have, in effect, created a "no-go zone," where even police are afraid to enter.

If you tell a big enough lie.....New congressional resolution introduced to remove Lee statue from Antietam (sic)
Via Billy
Unmitigated lies.
the statue glorifies a Confederate general, who fought to preserve the institution of slavery and tear our great country apart.
the statue is historically inaccurate, because the monument claims Lee was "personally against secession and slavery."
"Yet Lee was a brutal slave owner," the statement said. "(Lee) fought for the Confederacy comprised of states that each explicitly mentioned slavery as the justification for secession; and, the army he led kidnapped free blacks and massacred surrendering black Union soldiers
