Sixteenth Abbeville Institute Summer School: Southern Identity Through Music

St Christopher Conference Center, July 15-20, 2018
Seabrook Island, South Carolina
Music has been described as “the soul of the world embedded in sound.” Southern music exemplifies the traditions and culture of its people “embedded in sound.” It sprang from the mud, the rivers, the forests, the fields, and the mountains. From the land and place, to religion, folk songs, poverty and defeat, a “new South” and an old culture, the South has a story to tell, and for most of her history, that story has been told through song.

Big Pharma faces rare day of reckoning as Trump pushes price cuts

 012816 drug prices hearing

The pharmaceutical industry's day of reckoning may have finally arrived.

President Trump and his administration are determined to move forward on a sweeping initiative to address the rising cost of prescription treatments and, for once, the drug lobby may be unable to block the effort. A blueprint revealed earlier this month contained a number of proposals — some more vague than others — that included allowing further private negotiation in the Medicare program and ending the drug rebate program.

Instead of a direct attack on the plan, Big Pharma hopes to craft policies that would quiet critics while avoiding potentially costly measures drugmakers have long opposed. It's planning to work behind the scenes with the White House, the Office of Management and Budget and the Department of Health and Human Services to find common ground on the final regulatory proposals.

Not So Honorable: Docs Show Mueller’s FBI Denied Justice To Four Innocent Men

As FBI director in 2002, Special Counsel Robert Mueller directed his agents to oppose the pardons of four wrongfully imprisoned men because exculpatory evidence was merely “fodder for cross-examination,” newly revealed FBI documents show.

Four years later, the four men, or their estates, were awarded $102 million by a federal judge in Boston for their wrongful decades-long imprisonment due to FBI misconduct.

Mueller ordered the Boston FBI office to answer a request to him from the Massachusetts Advisory Board of Pardons for an “official version” of the imprisonment of the four men for a gangland murder in Chelsea MA in March 1965.

The four men – Louie Greco, Henry Tameleo, Peter Limone and Joe Salvati – were convicted in state court in Boston of murdering Edward “Teddy” Deegan, a small-time hoodlum, in an alley during a bank burglary.

Demoted FBI agent Peter Strzok had larger role in Clinton, Russia probes than previously known

Wow, Strzok-Page, the incompetent & corrupt FBI lovers, have texts referring to a counter-intelligence operation into the Trump Campaign dating way back to December, 2015. SPYGATE is in full force! Is the Mainstream Media interested yet? Big stuff!

Peter Strzok, who was pulled off Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigative team last year, played a more central role than previously known in both the Russia and Hillary Clinton email probes, a lawmaker familiar with the matter told Fox News Tuesday.

The lawmaker's assessment of Strzok's role in both investigations was based on the most recent records and testimony, including a closed-door interview with FBI espionage chief Bill Priestap.

Priestap was interviewed Tuesday as part of an ongoing joint investigation by the House Judiciary and Oversight committees. Priestap was Strzok's supervisor and oversaw both the Russia and Clinton investigations.

Walter Williams: Past Versus Present Americans

Having enjoyed my 82nd birthday, I am part of a group of about 50 million Americans who are 65 years of age or older. Those who are 90 or older were in school during the 1930s. My age cohort was in school during the 1940s. Baby boomers approaching their 70s were in school during the 1950s and early '60s.

Trump’s Economy Delivers Highest Level of Job Openings Ever Recorded

The number of job openings for Americans has surged to the highest level ever recorded by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, newly released economic data reveals.

There are now a record 6.7 million job openings for Americans in President Trump’s economy, far exceeding the number of unemployed Americans. As Breitbart News’s financial editor, John Carney, noted, this means there is now a job for every single American in the U.S. labor market:

' Belgium wades into EU's brutal immigration row with shock statement

EU news latest migration belgium italy

Theo Francken, the country’s controversial migration minister, insisted Brussels is not doing enough in its fight to any the illegal immigration crisis surrounding the bloc.

European summers, since 2015, have been dominated by a sharp rise in people travelling from the Middle East and North Africa to Europe in order to claim asylum to escape war-torn countries and persecution.

Jean-Claude Juncker’s European Commission has vowed to show “solidarity” with refugees arriving in Europe and urged countries to accept them with open arms.

The Commission President’s attitude, however, is not shared across many member states, including Italy which is seen as one of the frontlines in the migration crisis.

Gay adoption fight looms after Supreme Court’s cake ruling

Image result for Gay adoption fight looms after Supreme Court cake ruling

A major legal fight similar to the blockbuster Christian baker case decided by the Supreme Court on Monday is already brewing in several U.S. states over laws allowing private agencies to block gay couples from adoptions or taking in foster children.

The justices, in a 7-2 ruling, sided with a baker who had faced punishment under a Colorado anti-discrimination law after he refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple, saying it would violate his Christian beliefs.

Nine states have laws allowing state-funded, religiously affiliated adoption agencies to refuse to place children with gay people based on religious beliefs. Republican-governed Kansas and Oklahoma passed such laws this year. Alabama, Mississippi, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas and Virginia all have similar laws.

China's rising emissions prove Trump right on Paris Agreement

China's rising emissions prove Trump right on Paris Agreement

Nothing horrifies the intelligentsia more than President Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris Agreement on climate change. But, based on new information on China’s emissions, it increasingly looks like the president made the right call.

Just last week, an analysis from Greenpeace indicated that China’s 2018 carbon emissions were on track to grow at the fastest rate in six years. The study, based on government data regarding the use of coal and other energy sources, shows carbon output rising 4 percent in the first quarter of this year. Analysts are projecting similar gains over the next several quarters.

NC: Wartime on the Outer Banks

 Wartime on the Outer Banks
 Burial at Buxton

On a soggy spring morning last year on Ocracoke Island, the clouds gave way to sunrays just as the plaintive tunes of bagpipes beckoned islanders and visitors to a small cemetery. Tucked back on a quiet spot on British Cemetery Road is the plot where four British sailors were laid to rest in 1942. They lost their lives patrolling and defending shipping lanes off the Carolina coast during World War II.

Each year, islanders and visitors gather to remember their sacrifice, and 2017 marked the 75th memorial service. The day before, islanders, special guests and dignitaries had gathered on neighboring Hatteras Island at the Buxton British Cemetery for a memorial observance for two British sailors who washed ashore there during World War II.

The fishkill on Georgia’s Ogeechee River

For a dwindling rural White population, however, there still exists an older South, where in their own minds, those forests and rivers are extensions of the people who know and love them best; where battles must be fought to defend the land against insult and violation; and where it seems likely that this war, too, like that other one of 150 years ago, will end in humiliating defeat.

This story was orginally published on February 28, 2017. We are reposting to mark the release of John Wolfe's story, "Part of the river: Anger and uncertainty after decades of drinking water contamination."

To get a sense of the Ogeechee River in eastern Georgia, imagine twisty channels of coffee-colored water, inching past cypress trees draped in gray moss and under the occasional bridge. In many spots, the Ogeechee has the quality of a primordial Earth, where life forms are slowly evolving into the flora and fauna of today. Now imagine the same river not teeming with life but full of dead fish — 40,000 fish, mysteriously belly-up. Their carcasses, many pockmarked with lesions, line its banks, circle slowly in eddies, and pile up against fallen trees.

At 2:30 P.M. on Friday, May 20, 2011, headquarters phoned Tim Barrett to report that a citizen had seen some dead fish in the Ogeechee. Barrett was a biologist working for the Georgia Wildlife Resources Division. He climbed into his truck, buckled up, and got to work. And from a distance, at least, what happened in the next hours, days, weeks, and months would look familiar to anyone who has been in a movie theater in the last 30 years.

Hey, millennials, are you ready for an "Auntie Maxine Meet & Greet Tweet-a-thon" that will help "amplify" the voice of "our fearless champion in Congress"?! No? Well, don't feel bad, none of your peers are either.

The famously outspoken Democratic congresswoman's huge two-hour "tweet-a-thon" event on Sunday mustered just ten of the coveted millennial "social media influencers" she was hoping to fill the room with, and the response online was likely not the kind of "influence" she was hoping to create.

FAA endangers public safety by emphasizing diversity over competence in selection of air traffic controllers

Via Nancy

Tucker Carlson & aviation attorney Michael Pearson

It’s bad enough that university and even medical school admissions emphasize race/ethnicity over achievement, now comes news that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) does that as well. The difference is that by prioritizing “diversity” over competence in the selection of air traffic controllers, the FAA is endangering public safety.

Appearing on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” last Friday, June 1, 2018, aviation attorney Michael Pearson said just that — that the Federal Aviation Administration puts diversity ahead of public safety with its hiring practices for air traffic controllers, in order to favor black applicants.
According to his LinkedIn page, Michael Pearson:

As talk radio host Chris Plante is fond of saying, “If the left did not have double standards they would have no standards at all.”

We’ve come a long way from harmless playground jibes like “your mother wears combat boots,” to those of today from the likes of Samantha Bee and other leftist “entertainers” who say things about President Trump and his family that are so vulgar they can’t be printed in a newspaper or quoted on television.

Some of President Trump’s critics blame his harsh rhetoric for the language they use to attack him. Perhaps he bears some responsibility, but that is poor justification for bad behavior from others who might set a better example. People of a certain age may recall what their mothers told them: “If Johnny’s mother told you to jump off a building, would you do it?”

Senate Releases Unredacted Strzok-Page Texts Showing FBI Initiated MULTIPLE SPIES in Trump Campaign in December 2015

 FALCO

1) BOMBSHELL- From DECEMBER 2015–The word LURES is redacted by FBI but not OIG

"OCONUS LURES" OCONUS=

Outside Contiguous US

LURES= In this context LURES = SPIES - multiple

Is this an admission that the FBI wanted to run a baited Sting Op using foreign agents against Trump?

The US Senate today released over 500 pages of information related to the Spygate scandal.

Hidden in the information are unredacted Strzok – Page texts that show the FBI initiated actions to insert multiple spies in the Trump campaign in December 2015.

Once again Internet sleuths unearthed damning evidence that the FBI was engaged in Spygate long before they let on.

As we reported previously, according to far left Politico, Comey stated in March of 2017 under oath that the FBI investigation into the Trump – Russia scandal started in July 2016:

Boehner’s Right — It’s Trump’s Party Now

 Boehner’s Right — It’s Trump’s Party Now
If the Republican Party is “napping,” let it slumber on, undisturbed, for its time has come and gone. We are in a new world now.

“There is no Republican Party. There’s a Trump party,” John Boehner told a Mackinac, Michigan, gathering of the GOP faithful last week. “The Republican Party is kind of taking a nap somewhere.”
Ex-Speaker Boehner should probably re-check the old party’s pulse, for the Bush-Boehner GOP may not just be napping. It could be comatose.

Consider. That GOP was dedicated to free trade, open borders, amnesty and using U.S. power to punish aggressors and “end tyranny in our world.” That GOP set out to create a new world order where dictatorships were threatened with “regime change,” and democratic capitalism was the new order of the ages.

Yet, Donald Trump captured the Republican nomination and won the presidency — by saying goodbye to all that.

They act like bullying and mass shootings are the only bad things that can happen. Bullying is so broadly defined that it happens to every child every day. And mass shootings happen so infrequently that you child is more likely to be struck by lightning.

Every day thousands of children are molested. Thousands more are assaulted. Thousands per year are killed in traffic going to school. Thousands raped by other students. And most parents and school administrators have been perfectly willing to view those as acceptable losses to achieve the greater goods of "socializing" and free babysitting. If you willingly put your kids in public school, you volunteered them for all of this.
Mass shootings are insignificant by comparison.
