Why the Cherokee Nation Allied Themselves With the Confederate States of America in 1861
To know their reasons is very instructive as to the issues underlying that tragic war. Most Americans have been propagandized rather than educated in the causes of the war, all this to justify the perpetrators and victors. Considering the Cherokee view uncovers much truth buried by decades of politically correct propaganda and allows a broader and truer perspective.

The Trial of Henry Wirz: A National Disgrace
Via SHNV
In the state archives in Richmond, Virginia, there is a letter written by an ex-Andersonville prisoner in l9l9 which states, "I have alienated the friendship of many old comrades and friends by telling the truth as I saw it about Major Wirz and his innocence, but I am content and still firm in my belief that history will correct itself, prejudice illuminated, and the truth recognized." I hope that this article will, in some small way, help the truth to be recognized. The trial Henry Wirz was worse than a mistake, worse even than a miscarriage of justice. The trial of Major Henry Wirz was a national disgrace.
At exactly 10:32 a.m. the trap was sprung.
The fall did not break his neck as the hangman's knot was intended to do and Henry Wirzs legs kicked and writhed within their bonds as he slowly strangled to death. The yard of the Old Capitol Prison was crowded with onlookers who gladly braved the slight chill of the November morning to watch Wirz go to his death. The 250 spectator tickets the government had issued were quickly snatched up; others watched the event from perches on nearby rooftops and in tmes overlooking the walls. Four companies of United States soldiers stood guard and, as he was led up the scaffold, they began chanting in unison, "Wirz-remember Andersonville."

Three different Detroit homeowners used guns to defend themselves against intruders in one week
Two suspects were shot and killed.
“I think it’s just a matter of the individual homeowners protecting themselves and finally catching up with the criminals in that enough is enough and they aren’t going to take it anymore,” said Detroit Police Deputy Chief Rodney Johnson.

Baltimore's people of the woods: Inside the hidden homeless camps made of milk crates, wooden doors and tarps on the outskirts of town
A sheet of plastic laid over a clothesline. A mini-fortress of milk crates stacked under a tree. A thin mattress on a flimsy crate lying in a dark tunnel.
On the edge of Baltimore's woodlands, dozens of the city's transients live in makeshift homes which they consider safer than homeless shelters.
Photographer Ben Marcin has captured some of the shanties in his thought-provoking photo essay, 'The Camps', documenting the struggle, loneliness and ingenuity of Maryland's people of the woods.

While opponents of Southern heritage are constantly saying that supporters are a dying breed, their continued focus on them suggests that far from complacently believing that the war is truly over, they (opponents) are running scared.
Why else would they devote so much time, effort and money to belittling Southern heritage supporters?
Why else invest so much energy in what they’d like to convince you is a dying cause?
When you devote a great deal of time to telling me how much you don’t care, you reveal that, in fact, you care passionately.
There are several things about which I do not care, and I care so little I am not willing to devote the miniscule effort it would take to type about them. That is what not caring about something looks like.
The recent controversies over the Confederate flag flying in Virginia along Interstate 95 and the approval of new Sons of Confederate Veterans custom license plates in Georgia have brought this issue to my attention.
Certainly, those with opposing views are welcome to feel however they wish about the issues mentioned — hooray, First Amendment! — but what they cannot be allowed to do is misrepresent the intentions of those behind them.
Teaching, as I do, both middle school and college English might seem on the face of it to be two radically different enterprises, but I find one great truth lies at the heart of both.
I want all of my students to respect and harness the power of carefully selected words. I want them to think logically, write clearly and be able to analyze the arguments of others.
The subjective and objective meanings of words are both important, and an awareness of their use is essential.
That leads me to the use of “traitor” by those who oppose the display of any and all Confederate flags.

Should Kids Play With Toy Guns?
Of course. All I wanted for Christmas every year was another pair of Roy Rogers six shooters.:)
While working on a recent revolver-themed issue of Gun Digest the
Magazine, I was reminded of just days earlier when my 6-year-old son was
playing with a western-style six-shooter cap gun I had bought him
during a recent trip to South Dakota.
“That’ll be fun,” I said, but then a thought hit me.

Bloomberg flacks continue planned attacks on Second Amendment
Doofus
“Should we amend the Second Amendment?” Paul M. Barrett of Bloomberg Businessweek asks in a Thursday hit piece designed to legitimize an edit proposed by retired “hero of the political left” Justice John Paul Stevens.
Stevens, who was a voice of dissent in both the Heller and McDonald cases, meaning he does not think Americans should have a right to keep and bear arms, wants to add a restrictive qualifier.
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms -- when serving in the militia -- shall not be infringed,” is the way he thinks it ought to read, and Bloomberg’s employee is right there with him.

Ammo: How Much Is Enough When Carrying for Self Defense?
When I get down to 1,000 rounds of any caliber, I consider myself out of ammo for that caliber.
However, that’s not what I’m talking about here. When carrying a gun for self-defense, how much ammo should you carry on you? How much is enough? How much is too much?
Let’s start with the easy question first. If you ever find yourself in a self-defense situation, you’ll quickly realize that you can never have too much spare ammunition.

NC: Wake residents can now go online to apply for gun permits
RALEIGH — Wake County residents can now go online to apply for pistol purchases and concealed weapon permits.
The new service will start on Monday, Capt. James Stevens with the Wake County sheriff’s office said.
County residents will pay a nominal fee to use the online service that’s intended to make the permitting process more convenient and less time consuming, Stevens said.
The sheriff’s office processed 92,729 pistol purchase permits from 2010 until 2013. The sheriff’s office also processed 28,189 concealed handgun permits during the same period, Stevens said.

Swab-its Gun Tips & Bore Tips—A Good Idea
If you’re anything like me, you have all kinds of tools, patches, swabs, solvents, and favorite rags for cleaning your guns. I’m old enough to remember when there was but one way to clean a gun – Hoppe’s No. 9, a firm brush, and lots of patches. While those items are still within easy reach on my bench, I have also been happy to embrace new ideas – especially if they save me time or money!
The folks at Swab-its have a product line that they say does just that. Gun Tips and Bore Tips are foam swabs that come in many shapes and sizes and are engineered to provide superior cleaning and easy re-use. I put an assortment of these swabs to the test.

Nikki Haley: Unions Aren't Welcome In South Carolina
South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley didn’t mince words when she spoke about unions at an automotive conference in Greenville this week. The state loves its manufacturing jobs from BMW, Michelin and Boeing and welcomes more, she explained, but not if they’re bringing a unionized workforce with them.
“It’s not something we want to see happen,” she told The Greenville News.“ We discourage any companies that have unions from wanting to come to South Carolina because we don’t want to taint the water.”

Yanukovich In Russian Base At Sevastopol, Preparing To Depart For Russia
Ever since the weekend's coup d'etat (as he called it: remember, it isn't officially a coup until John Kerry deems it so - see Egypt), Ukraine's overthrown president Victor Yanukovych (despite signing an agreement with the opposition and blessed by Europe which foresaw new legitimate presidential elections sometime after September) has been in hiding, following an aborted attempt to depart the country by plane.
This is understandable: after all a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Which perhaps explains why as Gazeta.ru, citing UNIAN.net, reports his latest location is the Russian military base in Sevastopol, the one place where the Ukraine government, legitimate or not, will never dare to tread.

“Take down the sign or go to jail. We do not approve of guns…or you.”
“Take down the sign or go to jail. We do not approve of guns…or you.” This is the unmistakable messages sent by progressives when they take over a city and freedom pays the price. Ares Armor is a small tactical store operating one of their stores in National City, CA, a suburb of San Diego.
Nevermind that CEO Dimitri and his staff at Ares Armor are in complete compliance with all laws and ordinances. That does not matter. That’s because guns are at the heart of this debate. The City Council has taken offense to their presence there and is pulling out all the stops, perverting the legal system to destroy them. But Ares Armor stands unbowed and has paid $10,000 just in the appeals process to get justice. Dimitri, a combat USMC infantry vet from both Iraq and Afghanistan, stands in complete defiance of this attack on both 1st and 2nd Amendments rights.

Wells Fargo sued by employee fired for concealed carrying at work
Another interesting Second Amendment case is coming up before the courts, and yes… it’s from Florida again. Wells Fargo is facing a legal challenge from one of their bank managers who was fired for coming to work while carrying her weapon concealed.
Ivette Ros grew up in a house where her father kept guns. For her, it was a natural step to get a concealed weapons permit and then to carry a 9 mm handgun.
The 37-year-old Tampa resident is a single mother of three children and said she carries the gun for safety.
“It’s just something about having it versus not having it,” she said. “I feel naked when I don’t have my gun.”
Her employer didn’t feel the same way. Carrying the gun got her fired, she said.

Susan Rice: No regrets about Benghazi remarks
POS
U.S. National Security Advisor
Susan Rice said on Sunday she has no regrets about initially
characterizing the Sept. 11, 2012, attack in Benghazi, Libya, as a
"spontaneous response" to an anti-Islam video.
“What I said to you that morning,
and what I did every day since, was to share the best information that
we had at the time,” Rice told NBC's David Gregory in her first
appearance on "Meet the Press" since making her initial remarks about
the attack on the show. “The information I provided, which I explained
to you, was what we had at the moment. It could change. I commented that
this was based on what we knew on that morning, was provided to me and
my colleagues and indeed to Congress by the intelligence community, and
that’s been well validated in many different ways since."

Black Teenagers go on 'polar bear' hunt
Only the presence of a Bible over his heart saved the life of a Dayton, Ohio, bus driver who is in the hospital today with injuries suffered during a form of black mob violence called a “polar bear attack.”
Police say the bus driver is lucky to be alive after three black “teenagers” stabbed and shot him. A Bible over the bus driver’s heart stopped two bullets and allowed him to fight off a knife attack from his assailants.
One additional bullet struck him in the leg. They also stabbed him in the arm.
The attack came this morning at 5:30 when the driver stopped his bus because of mechanical difficulties.
“As he was outside of the bus assessing how to fix the problem, the three suspects came up to him and said they had to ‘shoot a polar bear,’” police told WHIO news.
“The bullets did not penetrate into the victim’s chest. There was obviously some kind of intervention involved in this incident because he (the driver) should probably not be here,” said Dayton Police Sgt. Michael Pauley.

Gundlach, Grantham Rip Fed's Easing Program
Some heavyweights on Wall Street strongly criticize the Federal Reserve's highly accommodative monetary policy, saying it has artificially inflated asset markets without boosting the economy much.
Bond market star Jeffrey Gundlach, CEO of DoubleLine Capital, and Jeremy Grantham, chief investment strategist of money manager GMO, are two of the critics.
"I don’t really like the Fed very much," Gundlach told The New York Times. "I wish the Fed were not manipulating the market the way it is.”
Some experts are worried about possible bubbles, especially in the stock market. "My guess is that the Fed will play its usual game till we’re in good old-fashioned bubble territory," Grantham told The Times.
"Either she [Fed Chair Janet Yellen] is ignorant about the markets, or she is cynical, and she is manipulating the market."

Some Republican Governors Say Obamacare Is ‘The Law’ and Here To Stay Despite Problems

Some Republican governors suggest that President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul is here to stay — despite their opposition to it and problems with Obamacare.
“We’re just trying to make the best of a bad situation,” Republican Gov. Terry Branstad, of Iowa, who calls the health care law “unaffordable and unsustainable,” yet something he has to implement by law. “We’re trying to make it work as best we can for the people of Iowa.”
