Separate but Equal?

A Review of Separate: The Story of Plessy v. Ferguson, and America’s Journey from Slavery to Segregation (W.W. Norton, 2019) by Steve Luxenberg

In 21st-Century America, there are precious few mediums through which the issue of race can be addressed with even a modicum of rationality.  One of the few means still available is the thorough, well-researched work produced by historians. Perhaps the only reason this avenue is still available to us at all is because those whom you would expect to participate in protests over its content do not usually spend the required time for reading books or truly studying history.

The “First Shot” Revisited

Ft. Sumter: No Federal Right To Occupy

Lincoln Has No Right to a Soldier in Fort Sumter

We have been told that the first shot fired in the “Civil War” was fired by the Confederacy at Fort Sumter in response to the Lincoln government’s attempt to rearm and re-supply that federal installation. The Sumter matter is important as after all the debate over the causes of the War are exhausted, there is always that one charge made against the Confederacy, to wit: the South started the war by firing the first shot against the federally owned and held Fort Sumter in Charleston harbor. No matter what the original subject, when those arguing the rightness of the Union to wage war against the Confederacy, the matter usually ends with this one particular charge to which most who defend the South seem unable to respond—at least effectively.

Wall Street, Corporations Team Up with Soros-Funded Group to Pressure States Against Election Reforms

Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), head of the Republican Study Committee (RSC), has been lobbying GOP leaders to cut ties with corporations and Wall Street in favor of protecting working and middle class interests against the encroachment of concentrated corporate power.

Wall Street firms, multinational corporations, and giant law firms are teaming up with the Brennan Justice Center, which is heavily funded by billionaire George Soros, to pressure states against reforms to their election process.

After Georgia lawmakers passed sweeping reform legislation to protect the state’s elections, including requiring photo identification to vote, corporate executives have blasted the move and many are suggesting they will boycott the state by moving business elsewhere.

Who Killed George Floyd?

Via John

This 24-minute documentary on the death of George Floyd was inspired by a series of articles by George Parry appearing in the American Spectator. Video from the body worn cameras of the on-scene officers, a nearby security CCTV camera and the cell phones of civilian witnesses were utilized to create a depiction of the event. An in-depth analysis of the autopsy and toxicology reports is provided by George Parry.

Sticks and Stones

Sticks and Stones

Sticks and stones will break my bones,
but words will never hurt me

These words of wisdom from our parents were usually followed by useful suggestions such as “Just ignore it” or “You can only stop a bully by punching him in the nose”. Most of us chose an option commensurate with our personal principles or physical ability and thereby learned a valuable lesson about how to deal successfully with adversity in real life.

Today’s younger generation, lacking the experience and wisdom needed to pursue practical solutions, is having trouble hearing and listening to words and concepts they don’t agree with or just don’t like.  You see them huddled in “safe spaces” on college campuses holding the ornamental amulets of childhood and being comforted by their equally troubled comrades.  While this does not provide them with the skills required to succeed in life, I have no argument against group “therapy” sessions and seeking advice from others.  Of course, the presence of at least one appropriately trained adult would be advantageous.

Markham’s Henry C. Green celebrates century of living

The last time I saw Mr Green I asked for permission to hunt groundhogs on his property and he exclaimed "You had it then and you  have it today" My friend Michael Cromwell Peters dated Mr. Green's daughter Jaque who was killed after spending the evening with her  at Hartland.

The rural roads aound Markham can get crowded during apple-picking season in the fall.

But, April traffic grew heavier than normal at Hartland Farm and Orchard on Saturday afternoon.
Friends and relatives came to wish Henry C. Green a happy 100th birthday.
Sharp as a tack, Mr. Green stood just below the second-floor bedroom at Hartland where he entered this world on April 9, 1921, to greet well-wishers at his “drive-by” party.

Dozens of CEOs along with prominent business leaders and lawyers hold Zoom Call

 Amen.

Breitbart

Dozens of CEOs along with prominent business leaders and lawyers held a Zoom call over the weekend to discuss how to further legislation to relax voting regulations nationwide. The objective of the call was apparently to share that executives from companies like PepsiCo, PayPal, T. Rowe Price, and others were prepared to effectively punish states that pursued legislation that would enhance voter integrity. Another point of the virtual meeting was, of course, to recruit more multinational conglomerates to the cause. America has some of the most lax voting rules in the western world, but even those have been likened to "Jim Crow" laws in recent days by Democratic Party activists and politicians. These activist Democrats have seemingly taken hold over corporate boardrooms. This is a massive evolution in the woke-ification of American business; this trend will no doubt continue.

Biden surrogates spent the weekend making the case for infrastructure -- but not just "traditional" infrastructure, human infrastructure. The Breitbart Business Digest is not certain exactly what that means, but depending on which Biden surrogate you ask, it includes housing, child care, addressing climate change, the "care economy," climate change (it's worth two mentions), and possibly even amnesty for illegal aliens. If all of this is "infrastructure," then the word has no meaning. And if the word has no meaning, "infrastructure" probably won't pass into law unless substantial tweaks are made to the original proposal. We'll keep you posted.

Also in the news, the U.S. budget deficit expanded to a record $1.7 trillion in the first half of the fiscal year. This week, we are keeping an eye on key indicators of inflation. As previously noted, our deepest concern is "K" shaped inflation where spikes in the relative price of essentials like gas and food disproportionately harm the lower and working classes.

Janet Yellen said she would not label China as a currency manipulator. This is not a surprise. The Trump administration gave the communist country that designation in 2019 but removed it a few months later.

Surviving A Riot in Your Vehicle — Awareness and Training

With the high level of civil unrest currently racing across the country, unsuspecting motorists are suddenly finding themselves caught in the middle of riots. They often get attacked by the mob, dragged out of their vehicle, and beaten, even though they had nothing to do with the protest and did not instigate the riot. They were truly victims of a mob mentality that feeds off its own energy. How do you survive this type of encounter if it happens to you?
