Fresh tomato and orange juice.

Emily, Virginia and I can drink the Mắm nêm.
Had to add hot peppers to this one though.

The best Nuoc Mam I have ever had.

Sleeping on the job. :)

The baby sitter waved at me as I was walking and when I sat down the child bowed graciously and then offered me a bite of her food.  When I said I was full the babysitter said to sit on my lap and she might me able to convince me. :)  Not a shy bone in her body as she promptly went around the table, sat on my lap and offered me a spoonful again.  Wish there had been a shot  of this.

U.S. Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement unions are cheering President Trump's plan to hire 15,000 new agents, claiming that he has boosted sagging morale by promising to finally help the outnumbered immigration officers — and let them do their jobs.

"During my career at ICE I have never had the opportunity to commend a sitting U.S. president, or DHS secretary, but I'm doing so today. Amidst all the hammering from the media, and protests from special interest groups, President Trump and Secretary (John) Kelly haven't wavered, but instead continued steadfast in their support of the rule of law and our officers in the field," said Chris Crane president of the union representing ICE.

Mr. Cruz piped in: “You could send Congress to space.”

The lawmakers and astronauts laughed and Mr. Trump said, “We could. What a great idea that could be.”

President Trump put NASA on course for a mission to Mars and beyond Tuesday, signing a bill that authorized boosting the agency’s current year budget to $19.5 billion and restoring its focus on manned space flights.

Mr. Trump spoke in historic terms about the renewed charge of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, which was expanded to include “the search for life’s origins, evolution, distribution, and future in the universe” in at the agency’s mission statement.

“Almost half a century ago our brave astronauts first planted the American flag on the moon. That was a big moment in our history. Now this nation is ready to be the first in space once again,” he said at a signing ceremony in the Oval Office.

Former DNC Official Partnered With Convicted Bomb Maker To Investigate Trump

Via Billy

A former official with the Democratic National Committee has worked in recent months with a convicted domestic terrorist-turned-activist known as the “Speedway Bomber” to gather information on Donald Trump, The Daily Caller has learned.

That work culminated in a Washington, D.C. meeting in December between the ex-DNC operative, Alexandra Chalupa, the convicted bomber, Brett Kimberlin, and a South Africa-born Israeli man named Yoni Ariel.

Ariel, whose real name is Jonathan Schwartz, traveled to Washington, D.C. to brief Chalupa and Kimberlin on his knowledge of Russia’s activities during the campaign.

Chalupa, an activist of Ukrainian heritage who is strongly opposed to Trump, also directed Ariel to the Justice Department, sources told TheDC.

Sources also informed TheDC that little came of the meetings.

A university administrator delivered a speech in which he described “whiteness” as “a way of thinking, a way of acting” that is fundamentally opposed to Christianity.

Paul Dionne, Inclusive Success Coordinator for Beloit College’s Office for Academic Diversity and Inclusiveness, gave a speech entitled, “Working Against Whiteness” as part of a “Love Made Public” lecture series. The lecture series started during the fall, but resumed this semester.

To help define “whiteness,” Dionne instructed the student attendees to chant “imperialist, capitalist, white supremacist patriarchy,” a phrase originating from feminist and self-avowed socialist bell hooks, who spells her name with all lowercase letters.

In a 6-2 ruling Tuesday, the Supreme Court limited the appointment power of the president, deciding that President Obama improperly filled the position of general counsel for the National Labor Relations Board, the main federal labor law enforcement agency.

A majority of the justices ruled that Lafe Solomon, who served as acting general counsel for the board from 2011 through 2013, was there in violation of 1998 Federal Vacancies Reform Act.

The ruling will limit the ability of presidents to fill vacant federal positions when faced with an oppositional Congress.

Third year of flat global carbon emissions fuels resistance to Paris climate accord

Birds fly past at sun set as smoke emits from a chimney at a factory in Ahmadabad, India, Monday, Dec. 8, 2014. The momentum from a historic U.S.-China pact to resist global warming is showing signs of fading at the U.N. climate talks in Peru as the familiar rich-poor conflict persists over who should do what to keep the planet from overheating. Even without the Paris climate agreement, worldwide carbon dioxide emissions stayed flat last year for the third year in a row as the global economy grew, raising questions about the need for the UN accord.

Estimates from the International Energy Agency released Friday showed emissions from the industrial sector last year measured at 32.1 gigatonnes, the same amount as the previous two years, while the global economy grew by 3.1 percent.

The United States saw the biggest one-year drop, with emissions falling by 3 percent as the economy expanded by 1.6 percent. The decrease pushed U.S. carbon dioxide emissions to their lowest level since 1992, even though the economy grew during that period by 80 percent.

Dated: Nat Geo Launched a Free Website for Printing Detailed Topographical Maps

Via Iver

The folks at National Geographic just did a solid favor for all the adventurous outdoor photographers out there. They put every US Geological Survey (USGS) topographical map from across the United States on one easy-to-navigate site and made them easy to print out at home.

If you’ve ever gone hunting topo maps via the USGS, you know that it can be a bit of a pain because, not only is finding the quad you’re looking for more difficult, the PDFs they have available aren’t formatted for standard printer paper.

The National Geographic website solves both of these issues. First, the homepage greets you with a searchable, interactive map: all you have to do is search for or zoom in on the area you’re looking for. Then, once you find your quad, just click on it and a printable PDF loads right up.

Mike Huckabee: Neil Gorsuch is grinding up the Democrats into 'pure pork sausage'

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee applauded President Trump's nominee to the Supreme Court, Neil Gorsuch, for holding his own against an intense grilling by Senate Democrats during his confirmation hearing Tuesday.

"Breaking News! Jimmy Dean Sausage Co will be renamed GORSUCH SAUSAGE because he's grinding up some Democrat Senators into PURE PORK SAUSAGE!" Huckabee tweeted Tuesday as Gorsuch took part in a confirmation hearing on his nomination.

That tweet was part of a flurry of Gorsuch-related messages from Huckabee. He said Gorsuch looked "very impressive" and that the Democrats "look small and Gorsuch stands tall by separating personal views from the law;it's what we hope for at SCOTUS."

Hookstead’s Hot Take: Wisconsin’s Basketball Success Is Proof Of White Supremacy

Via Billy

It took less than a few days for dangerous white supremacy to be on display in March Madness this year, and the Wisconsin Badgers were the leading vessel.

The eight-seed Badgers upset top-ranked Villanova in the Round of 32, and I, as a fully self-aware social justice warrior, could not have been more upset at the school where I earned my diploma.

Basketball is a sport generally dominated by young black men, most of whom were highly decorated recruits in high school. In a fair and righteous society the teams with the highest recruits, which are almost always predominately black, would win. That’s called fairness and equity.
