Mr. Cruz piped in: “You could send Congress to space.”
The lawmakers and astronauts laughed and Mr. Trump said, “We could. What a great idea that could be.”

President Trump put NASA on course for a mission to Mars and beyond Tuesday, signing a bill that authorized boosting the agency’s current year budget to $19.5 billion and restoring its focus on manned space flights.
Mr. Trump spoke in historic terms about the renewed charge of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, which was expanded to include “the search for life’s origins, evolution, distribution, and future in the universe” in at the agency’s mission statement.
“Almost half a century ago our brave astronauts first planted the American flag on the moon. That was a big moment in our history. Now this nation is ready to be the first in space once again,” he said at a signing ceremony in the Oval Office.

More wasted money on bloated government programs.
ReplyDeleteManned flight is the least efficient way to explore the solar system.
NASA needs to be mothballed or shut down. It achieved it's only purpose back in the 70's. At most, they should be active to support the launch sites that civilian programs use. As long as they exist, they will be used as a slush fund for liberal causes like global warming ... just like the rest of the government.
Life's origins? I like the pursuit in principle, but we already know our origins. God created us. And because we're created, we each have a soul. That's why man is valuable and not a mere "human resource".
ReplyDeleteI think it'd be interesting to study archaeology, learn all we can of our human past. But what could be discovered in space?
That's just odd, because that pursuit of our origins is a very right-wing pursuit. To value ancestors and where we came from is conservative, to see those authorities for guidance and meaning.
As for the future, I don't really dream of leaving the Earth; but I'd rather focus on space exploration than on the latest needless foreign war. The US is in 177 countries today. Why are we in 177 countries? We should only occupy a single polity: The US.
