Court: Christians can be ordered to violate beliefs

Via Cousin John

A ruling from Judge Tim L. Garcia in the New Mexico Court of Appeals says states can require Christians to violate their faith in order to do business, affirming a penalty of nearly $7,000 for a photographer who refused to take pictures at a lesbian “commitment” ceremony in the state where same-sex “marriage” was illegal.

Judge’s Cynthia Fry and James Wechsler joined in the ruling by Garcia, which involved Elane Photography, whose owners, Elaine and Jonathan Huegeunin, are Christians and declined to do photography for lesbians Vanessa Willock and another woman.

Message sent to candidates for Governor of NC

Sir,

You may well recognize below the opening paragraph of Thomas Jefferson's Kentucky Resolves. The fact that Jefferson had penned these resolves was kept well hidden until leaked much later by John Taylor of Caroline. My question to you sir is twofold and your answer will determine if you get my vote for Governor.

First do you believe as Jefferson did in limited government and the absolute sovereignty of each state and in particular to the sovereignty of the State of North Carolina and the right of its people to self determination without the interference of the General Government except within the strict confines allowed by the Constitution as written by the Founders?

Second are you willing as Governor of the State of North Carolina to uphold the Constitution and do everything within your powers as Governor of the Sovereign State of North Carolina to resist by any and all means necessary unconstitutional over reach of both the General government and the government of North Carolina?

Your answers would be greatly appreciated and is required if I am to vote for you this fall. I and the good people of North Carolina will hold you accountable to your answer both before and after the election if you should win.

"Resolved, that the several states composing the United States of America, are not united on the principle of unlimited submission to their General Government; but that by compact under the style and title of a Constitution for the United States and of amendments thereto, they constituted a General Government for special purposes, delegated to that Government certain definite powers, reserving each state to itself, the residuary mass of right to their own self Government; and that whensoever the General Government assumes undelegated powers, its acts are unauthoritative, void, and of no force: That to this compact each state acceded as a state, and is an integral party, its co-states forming as to itself, the other party: That the Government created by this compact was not made the exclusive or final judge of the extent of the powers delegated to itself; since that would have made its discretion, and not the constitution, the measure of its powers; but that as in all other cases of compact among parties having no common Judge, each party has an equal right to judge for itself, as well of infractions as of the mode and measure of redress."

The Latest Leftist Smear of Patriots and Constitutionalists

Via SHNV

http://ts4.mm.bing.net/images/thumbnail.aspx?q=4659932721643623&id=d9e0a877300ec9c0c961cc29e2c506a1

The communistic rabble-rousers at the left-wing hate group known as the Southern Poverty Law Center have produced yet another libelous smear of well-meaning Americans who would like to see their Constitution enforced. This time the smears, lies, false innuendo, character assassination, and hate are directed at all those who believe that part of the definition of an American patriot is one who believes in the founding fathers’ philosophy of limited constitutional government.

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is a far-left hate group whose modus operandi is to attempt to censor criticisms of big government in America by calling people names. If you are a Jeffersonian who believes that limited and decentralized government is better than unlimited, centralized, monopolistic government, then they will label you a racist, a slavery defender, or worse. If you are a Ron Paul constitutionalist, they will insinuate that you are probably a terrorist who would like to blow up government buildings. If you are not a leftist, then you are, by definition, a "hater." If you are a critic of the welfare state, it is because you hate poor people. If you are a critic of the government school bureaucracy, it is because you hate children. If you are a critic of racial hiring quotas (which are supposedly illegal under the Civil Rights Act of 1964), then you are a racist. If you oppose socialized medicine, it is because you hate sick people. If you are a critic of the Ponzi scheme known as "social security," it is because you hate old people. There cannot possibly be any intellectual reasons to doubt government intervention; all criticisms of intervention are motivated by hate and nothing else according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

With the advent of the TEA Party and the Republican takeover of the U.S. House of Representatives, the SPLC issued one of its cartoonish "intelligence reports" on "The Year in Hate," bemoaning the "explosive growth" of "the radical right." Everyone on the "right" is a "radical extremist." There are no radicals or extremists on the left in the eyes of the extreme radical communists at the SPLC.

A recent SPLC "intelligence report" attacks so-called "patriot groups" in America. As is its usual practice, the SPLC digs up a tiny piece of information about one or two mentally deranged lunatics somewhere in America who gripe about the government and supposedly claim to be "patriots," and then insinuate in their "report" that ALL individuals and groups who label themselves as patriots are probably just as crazy – if not dangerous.

Negro Troops

Sandusky Ohio Register
December 31, 1861
From:
Indianapolis Journal December 23, 1861

A member of the Indiana Twentieth Regiment, now encamped near Fortress Monroe, writes to the Indianapolis Journal on the 23rd.

Yesterday morning General Mansfield with Drake de Kay, Aide-de-Camp in command of seven companies of the 20th New York, German Riffles, left Newport News on a reconnaissance. Just after passing Newmarket Bridge, seven miles from camp, they detached one company as an advance, and soon after their advance was attacked by 600 of the enemy's cavalry.

The company formed to receive cavalry, but the CAVALRY ADVANCING deployed to the right and left when within musket range and unmasked a body of SEVEN HUNDRED negro infantry, all armed with muskets, who opened fire on our men, wounding two lieutenants and two privates, and rushing forward surrounded the company of Germans who cut their way through killing six of the negroes and wounding several more. The main body, hearing the firing, advanced at a double-quick in time to recover their wounded, and drive the enemy back, but did not succeed in taking any prisoners. The wounded men TESTIFY POSITIVELY that they were shot by Negroes, and that not less than seven hundred were present, armed with muskets.

This is, indeed, a new feature in the war. We have heard of a regiment of Negroes at Manassas, and another at Memphis, and still another at New Orleans but did not believe it till it came so near home, and attacked our men. THERE IS NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT. The 20th German were actually attacked and fired on and wounded by Negroes.

It is time that this thing was understood, and if they fight us with Negroes, why should not we fight them with Negroes too? We have disbelieved these reports too long, and now let us fight the devil with fire. The feeling is intense among the men. They want to know if they came here to fight Negroes, and if they did, they would like to know it. The wounded men swear they will kill any Negro they see, so excited are they at the dastardly act. It remains to be seen how long the Government will now hesitate, when they learn these facts. One of the Lieutenants was shot in the back part of the neck, and is not expected to live.

Jefferson Davis: American Soldier, Senator, Secretary of War, President

Born 3 June, 1808

A West Point graduate, Davis distinguished himself in the Mexican-American War as a colonel of the Mississippi Rifles volunteer regiment, and was the United States Secretary of War under President Franklin Pierce. Both before and after his time in the Pierce Administration, he served as a United States Senator from Mississippi. As senator he argued against secession but believed each State was sovereign and had an unquestionable and constitutional right to secede from the voluntary Union of the Founders, just as they had seceded from England seeking political liberty. Davis resigned from the Senate in January 1861 after receiving word that his State of Mississippi had voted to leave the voluntary Union.

Davis explained his actions stating: “[T]o me the sovereignty of the State was paramount to the sovereignty of the Union. And I held my seat in the Senate until Mississippi seceded and called upon me to follow and defend her. Then I sorrowfully resigned the position in which my State had placed me and in which I could no longer represent her, and accepted the new work. I was on my way to Montgomery when I received, much to my regret, the message that I had been elected provisional President of the Confederate States of America.”

Davis was a great and patriotic American who tried to save the old constitutional republic from revolutionaries, and who left the old union with the old constitution intact to form a "more perfect Union" and with the consent of the governed. He contended that he would rather be out of the Union with the Constitution than to be in the Union without the Constitution. Ironically, the Southern States seceded in order to save the Constitution of the Founders. Davis remarked in July 1864: "I tried in all my power to avert this war. I saw it coming, and for 12 years, I worked night and day to prevent it, but I could not. The North was mad and blind; it would not let us govern ourselves, and so the war came, and now it must go on till the last man of this generation falls in his tracks, and his children seize the musket and fight our battle, unless you acknowledge our right to self-government. We are not fighting for slavery. We are fighting for Independence, and that, or extermination, we will have....Slavery never was an essential element. It was the only means of bringing other conflicting elements to an earlier culmination. It fired the musket which was already capped and loaded. There are essential differences between the North and the South that will, however this war may end, make them two nations.”

Reminded during the war of the destruction of his Mississippi plantations by occupying Northern troops, we dismissed it as the cost of war, yet confessed that he pitied his poor Negroes, who had been driven off by those troops and abandoned to misery or ruin. He resisted arming the slaves as they were not trained as soldiers, were needed to raise food for the armies in the field, and he would not use them as mercenaries and cannon-fodder as Lincoln was doing to avoid conscripting unwilling white Northerners.

At the end of the War, when a fellow traveler remarked that the cause of the Confederates was lost. Davis replied: “It appears so. But the principle for which we contended is bound to reassert itself, though it may be at another time and in another form.” In 1881, Davis was critical of the Gilded Age corruption and political ignorance of the United States Constitution and remarked: “Of what value then are paper constitutions and oaths binding officers to their preservation, if there is not intelligence enough in the people to discern the violations; and virtue enough to resist the violators?”

Though charged with treason, President Davis demanded a fair trial in order to argue the constitutionality of the South’s actions in 1860-1861. This was denied by his revolutionary tormenters, and the reason was revealed by Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court, Salmon P. Chase, in 1867. Chase admitted that: "If you bring these leaders to trial, it will condemn the North, for by the Constitution, secession is not a rebellion. His [Jefferson Davis] capture was a mistake. His trial will be a greater one. We cannot convict him of treason."

President Davis died on December 6, 1889

The Road to U.S. Economic Suicide

Re-electing Obama Would Push U.S. Over Cliff

Mike Scruggs

Re-electing President Obama would push the United States over a political and economic cliff without a parachute. Bad economic policy sometimes takes several decades to ruin a country, but shackling the U.S. with four more years of Obama’s extremely misguided economic and social ideology would put America in the express line for political and economic suicide.

On June 1, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released its employment report for the month of May. To those unfamiliar with the usual consequences of Jacobin-socialist economic ideology and practical incompetence, the continuing decline of the U.S. economy may have come as a surprise. Most of the mainstream media were looking for signs of recovery spurred by throwing billions of stimulus dollars into the laps of labor unions, mismanaged banks, and green-fraud enterprises like the now bankrupt solar panel manufacturing company, Solyndra—responsible for losing over $500 million in taxpayer money.

To the Obama-smitten mainstream press, loaning over $500 million to a “green” technology company managed by Obama’s financial backers and having a net worth of only $100 million was perhaps visionary. However, even adjusted for historical inflation in measuring the dollar impact of past corporate scandals, I believe it sets a new Ripley’s Believe-It-or-Not Record. Obama’s other visionary government investment records are also amassing an unenviable record of ill-fated favoritism and bad judgment.

May’s report showed a mere 69,000 new jobs, the lowest level of the calendar year. Unemployment, measured by the inadequate but standard U-3 definition most familiar to the public, increased to 12,720,000, bumping up the unemployment rate from 8.1 percent to 8.2 percent. Over 4,000,000 American workers have been out of work for 27 months or more.

But the standard U-3 rate is highly misleading, since it does not include millions of discouraged workers who want a job but have given up looking after many months of futility. It also does not include millions who have been forced from full-time to part-time work by economic circumstances.

The BLS U-6 rate is a more realistic and more painful to contemplate. The U-6 rate has moved from 14.6 percent to 14.8 percent. That moves the number of American workers impacted at nearly 23,000,000—a lingering tragedy, not recovery.

Just an aside, but with 23 million Americans unable to find full-time work and all the talk by Obama and other politicians about the importance of jobs, why do we still have 8.l million illegal immigrant workers in the country? According to Harvard Labor Economist George Borjas, a Cuban immigrant himself, the pressure of low-wage competition from massive levels of both legal and illegal immigration reduced real wages for American workers by 3.2 percent from 1980 to 2000 and is continuing. That is $2,700 per year per worker—a $302 billion dollar annual dent in the buying power of American workers.

Obama calls his solution to the immigration problem “Administrative Registration.” This amounts to getting illegal immigrants to register and rewarding their registration by giving them a Green Card. There are some outside the mainstream press who are beginning to realize that Administrative Registration and amnesty are the same thing. Moreover, Obama is already giving administrative amnesties by the tens and hundreds of thousands with little protest from Congress.

Unemployment is particularly prevalent among the young, unskilled, poorly educated, and several ethnic minorities. The U-3 unemployment rate is 7.4 percent for whites, 11.0 percent for Hispanics, and 13.6 percent for blacks. Unemployment is 22.0 percent for all those aged 16 to 19 and 36.8 percent for blacks. It is 8.9 percent for high school graduates and 23.9 percent for recent high school graduates.

The economic stress, however, is also impacting many skilled and college-educated workers, especially in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) category. While the unemployment rate is only 4.9 percent for college graduates overall, engineers and information systems graduates have unemployment rates of 8.6 percent and 11.7 percent respectively. In addition, more than half (53.6 percent in 2011) of recent college graduates under 25 are underemployed—for example, a mechanical engineer working as a waiter or waitress.

Much of the unemployment and underemployment in the STEM categories is due to incredibly sloppy and irresponsible Federal immigration policy. According to the Department of Labor, prior to 2008, the U.S. economy produced 82,000 STEM jobs annually. In 2007, the Department of Education estimated that U. S. colleges produced 203,000 STEM graduates annually. Many of them were among the 600,000 foreign students enrolled in U.S. colleges every year. An investigative report in September 2009 by Walt Gardener with the Atlanta Journal Constitution indicated that the U.S. often issues more STEM H-1B visas per year than the total annual growth in STEM jobs. In 2008, 137,000 foreign STEM workers and graduates were issued H-1B Work Visas as requested by U.S. companies. While U.S. STEM hires averaged salaries of $78,000, the H-1B visa hires were paid an average of only $60,000, an $18,000 per hire savings for the 21 percent of U.S. companies abusing the H-1B program. Contrary to popular myth and various sources of political and partisan economic distortion, there is no STEM graduate shortage in the United States. Real wages for U.S. STEM graduates have been flat since 2000.

America has serious economic problems. Not all were created by President Obama, but he is continuing them, making them worse, and adding more terrible problems like ObamaCare, runaway government spending, huge deficits, and an $18 trillion national debt. We are on the edge of a cliff, and re-electing Obama would be economic suicide.

Black history they don't want you to know

Via Billy

How many Americans know that the first slave owner in America was a black tobacco farmer? How many Americans are aware that thousands of free blacks in the South were, themselves, slave owners? How many know there were 440,000 free American Negros in 1860, half of whom chose to live in the South?

Answer: Very few.

Embedded in the minds of Americans is a grand distortion of black history.

Our perception depends largely on activists in Hollywood and revisionists in academia. Add those who parrot Hollywood and academia and you have a broad swath of ignorance prevailing in America.

DailyKenn.com is here to set the record straight; at least in part.

Did you know the following about black history in America?

How NOT To Shoot a Revolver

I walked into a military exercise in my front yard on Monday

Via Jack

Old, but I just read it.

I'm gonna make this short - I tried to post last night but it timed me out before I could post. First off, I don't buy into most of the conspiracy theories and I've never seen a UFO or anything like that. But you ain't gonna believe what happened Monday night.

I live on the outskirts of Cherryville, NC. Little town in the sticks. No military bases around here and the closest Guard Armory is on the other side of the county. Monday night, at about 2:30, I went outside to smoke. And while I'm standing there I hear someone running down the street in front of my house. I turn to my right, look up the street and I see a glow stick flopping up and down, attached to a soldier. Yeah, a freaking soldier. The dude is humping it down the road like he's being chased. I yelled for him to stop and he jogs across my yard and walks right up to me and introduces himself - says his name is Sergeant Carr. I shook the guy's hand and asked him what was going on and he says "we're running an exercise." So I say "is everything all right?" And he says "yes" and I say "so nothing is going on, nothing's wrong?" and he says "no, nothing's wrong, we're running an exercise" and he says he has to go. Friendly dude, completely lucid. The thing is he's in full battle rattle. I mean light gray digital camo BDUs, a big ruck on his back that looked full to me, a glow stick on the front of his harness AND he's carrying an M4 slung down under his right arm.

Since nothing like this EVER happens around here I was shocked and didn't think to ask the guy 20 questions.

Booker T. Washington on slavery

Roundabout via Billy

  • I pity from the bottom of my heart any nation or body of people that is so unfortunate as to get entangled in the net of slavery. I have long since ceased to cherish any spirit of bitterness against the Southern white people on account of the enslavement of my race. No one section of our country was wholly responsible for its introduction, and, besides, it was recognized and protected for years by the General Government.

  • Having once got its tentacles fastened on to the economic and social life of the Republic, it was no easy matter for the country to relieve itself of the institution. Then, when we rid ourselves of prejudice, or racial feeling, and look facts in the face, we must acknowledge that, notwithstanding the cruelty and moral wrong of slavery, the ten million Negroes inhabiting this country, who themselves or whose ancestors went through the school of American slavery, are in a stronger and more hopeful condition, materially, intellectually, morally, and religiously, than is true of an equal number of black people in any other portion of the globe.

  • This is so to such an extend that Negroes in this country, who themselves or whose forefathers went through the school of slavery, are constantly returning to Africa as missionaries to enlighten those who remained in the fatherland. This I say, not to justify slavery — on the other hand, I condemn it as an institution, as we all know that in America it was established for selfish and financial reasons, and not from a missionary motive — but to call attention to a fact, and to show how Providence so often uses men and institutions to accomplish a purpose.

Booker T. Washington, Chapter I: A Slave Among Slaves
