Education - If anyone could make the argument that the standard "stand and deliver" lecture style teaching of the basics of language, arithmetic, science and literature that took place in the 1940s, 50s and 60s was replaced and supplanted and we got better results as a consequence I might be willing to listen. It's late evening in Detroit. Here and there we see the first flickers of random arson, the pale yellow flash of gunfire, the glint of moonlight off copper and aluminum as it's spirited away. In the distance a pack of feral dogs barks. Nearby we hear the happy trash talk of a gang rape in progress. The murderometer totals up at a somewhat more urgent pace. Detroit is settling into its lunatic nighttime routine. 

Tonight will be different. A low rumble seems to well up from the ground, dishes dance in the cupboards as heavy aircraft approach from every nation with wit enough to save itself, menacing and ponderous, arriving in waves from horizon to horizon. The ground erupts in marching ranks of explosions, continuous concussions roll across the land, buildings and bridges and streets disappear outward and upward. Later, teams with flamethrowers and bulldozers crisscross the ruins. Then, quiet. Beneath the acrid ground fog not one brick stands on another. Dawn reveals a far horizon in all directions, ready for farm-fresh, Too Small To Fail homesteaders. Detroit has found its rightful destiny, and only a little sooner than if unassisted.

MOC Merger

Dear Museum of the Confederacy Board Members,

 It is with deep sadness that I write this letter to you, as it is my understanding that there is a merger in the works, and possibly already underway that will merge the MOC (Museum of the Confederacy) with the VHS (Virginia Historical Society), and the CWC (Civil War Center) at Tredegar, and the name “Museum of the Confederacy” will no longer exist under this new merger. As a history buff and son of Virginia, I was fortunate to be born and grow up in a small rural section in the southeastern part of Virginia known as Princess Anne County, today's modern day Virginia Beach. I was also fortunate in attending a small elementary school in Princess Anne County near the County Courthouse, thus the name, Courthouse Elementary School. While in the sixth grade at Courthouse Elementary I had the pleasure and honor to go on a class field-trip to the MOC, as we were studying Virginia History at the time. 

In growing up I had always heard my mother, my grandmother, and my great grandmother (the latter being the daughter of my great, great grandfather, a Confederate Veteran) talk about how our relatives from Princess Anne County fought in the War Between the States on the side of the Confederacy, and that one in particular, my great, great, great grandfather, was an officer in the Confederate Army. I had grown up very proud of the fact that I was the descendent of an officer in the Confederate Army, a Major nonetheless. When the day came when our class went to the MOC, I was so excited that I could hardly sleep the night before, and was up bright and early waiting in anticipation for the school bus that morning. Once at school, and we were on the bus headed to the MOC my excitement grew, and all I could talk about to my classmates surrounding me on the bus was my Confederate ancestors, and how my great, great, great grandfather Major Edgar Burroughs from Princess Anne County died at the hands of the enemy in Portsmouth, Virginia after being captured in Princess Anne County, serving his country as my great, grandmother put it. 

She spoke of what a brave and noble man her grandfather was, and how he exhausted all of his means for the war effort, including paying (out of his own pocket) and equipping his men in his Partisan Ranger Company from Princess Anne County. My mother had given me five dollars before leaving the house that morning, along with my bag lunch that we were required to bring for the field trip, and when I got to the MOC I couldn’t wait to make that last stop at the souvenir shop, for as the old saying goes, that five dollars was burning a hole in my pocket. I remember, oh so well the tour guide leading our class through the museum explaining everything, and so happy to answer any questions we had as I looked on with excitement. I remember stopping at an exhibit and before the tour guide could explain what was in the case behind her, I shouted out, “That’s JEB Stuart’s hat, my great, great great grandfather knew him”, (my g,g,g, grandfather was a Major in the 15th VA. Cavalry prior to commanding his own Partisan Ranger Co. in P.A. County) the large plume in the hat being the obvious give way. Everyone in the class chuckled a bit, including the tour guide, but she immediately responded by saying, “Why yes, you are absolutely correct young man, that is JEB Stuart’s hat”. 

After the tour through the museum, which included getting to see the Princess Anne Cavalry Flag, and in my humble opinion is one of the most beautiful flags in your collection, we went to the gift/souvenir shop. I remember buying a Confederate stick flag, and Confederate Kepi, wearing it all the way home on the bus (and still had enough change to buy a soda pop and other goodies before leaving the museum). When I got home that evening I couldn’t wait to tell my mother and father about what a day I had at the MOC, and how I had seen JEB Stuart’s hat and uniform, along with Robert E. Lee’s and Stonewall Jackson’s. It’s a day I will always treasure and remember for the rest of my life. 

After my great grandmother passed away in the early 60’s, the conversations surrounding our Confederate ancestors in the family seemed to die out over the years, but my curiosity about my Confederate ancestors and that God awful war continued to grow until eventually, after ten years or so of extensive research, I decided to publish a book several years ago about not only my great, great, great, grandfathers war experiences, but also the horrors of war the over seven-hundred other men that mustered into the Confederacy from Princess Anne County experienced. The title of my book is; “Princess Anne County Virginia; Its Contributions and Sacrifices to the War Between the States”, (a copy can be found in both the MOC, and the Library of Virginia in Richmond). In my book, I tell about the horrors and sacrifices the good folks of Princess Anne County faced, and how they suffered dearly at the hands of their Union occupiers, all the while losing their loved ones on the battlefields of their home State of Virginia. Out of the over seven-hundred men that mustered out of Princess Anne County for the Confederacy, more than a third would not return home to their loved ones (dying either on the battlefields, in prison camps, and hospitals), and of the two-thirds that did return to Princess Anne County more than half were either physically or emotionally scared for the rest of their lives, eventually falling into deep states of depression and or alcoholism, which caused serious family problems for a lot of these returning Confederate soldiers, all due to the sights and horrors of that God awful war. 

We, as a society, talk about our “Wounded Warriors” of today, and what we can do to ensure they live as normal lives as possible considering what they’ve seen and been through on the battlefields, with programs, rehab, counseling, prosthetics, even homes provided by Habitat for Humanity. The Confederate soldier got none of that, yet had to suffer through far worse conditions on the battlefield, sometimes lying on the battlefield for days before being administered to. The Museum of the Confederacy is the last and only shrine dedicated to the South’s “Wounded Warriors” of that God awful war, and if our country couldn’t or wouldn’t aid them then, then by God please come to their aid now by keeping the name “Museum of the Confederacy” alive and well, as this is the only true shrine of the Southern soldier and his culture. As an adult I continued to visit the MOC from time to time, including research work for my book, and can’t help but smile every time I walk in, reminiscing about the day of my sixth grade field-trip. I would urge and ask please that each and every one of you consider in your hearts to keep the name “Museum of the Confederacy” as a shrine to our Confederate dead, as it is a part of our history, and changing the name won’t change history.

After 17 years of investigating a criminal cabal at the top of the Clinton administration and Department of Justice, which included my indictment and trial for investigating them, I finally gathered a comprehensive fact-set any rookie prosecutor can take to a grand jury and obtain indictments. First comes the low-ranking people that keep their federal jobs by engaging in willful blindness – sycophant savants, a common affliction within the FBI and Department of Justice. Then comes the middlemen, and so on up the line.

Such indictments will never happen, however, because the United States has become little more than a very large banana republic coasting along on its crumbling capitalist past. The story even includes two federal judges, one currently on the United States Supreme Court, who assisted the criminal cabal.

Before today the story has only been partially told, only in bits and pieces, allowing the criminal cabal to live worry-free. Much of what you read below has never before been revealed. What has been told before is part of the glue necessary to tell the comprehensive story.

This is the story, from beginning to end in its natural order: July 17, 1996, 12 minutes after takeoff from New York’s JFK Airport, TWA Flight 800 was blown out of the sky, killing all 230 people onboard. “Significant Naval units” were in the area, according to a Navy document. Three radar picked up a missile launch. Navy radar observed the missile closing in on the TWA 747, per a Navy radar database uncovered under the Freedom of Information Act. Two key witnesses observed the same missile merge with the aircraft. What happened is not too difficult to determine.

Top Fuel Dragster Facts

-One Top Fuel dragster 500 cubic inch Hemi engine makes more horsepower than the first 4 rows at the Daytona 500. They have over half again as much horsepower in one cylinder as a Dodge Viper has in all ten. No one has ever successfully run one long enough on a dyno to get a horsepower reading. Current estimates are right around 6,000 horsepower.

-Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 1-1/2 gallons of nitro methane per second; a fully loaded 747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate with 25% less energy being produced. 

 

-A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to drive the dragster supercharger. The fuel pump alone requires more horsepower to turn than the average street car produces. 

 

-With 3000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into a near-solid form before ignition. Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lock at full throttle. 

 

-The 1.7:1 air/fuel mixture for nitro methane produces a flame front temperature measures 7050 degrees F. 

 

-Nitro methane burns yellow. The spectacular white flame seen above the stacks at night is raw burning hydrogen, disassociated from atmospheric water vapour by the searing exhaust gases. 

 

-Dual magnetos supply 44 amps to each spark plug. This is the output of an arc welder in each cylinder. 

 

-Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a pass. After the run, the engine is dieseling from compression plus the glow of exhaust valves at 1400 degrees F. The engine can only be shut down by running the car out of fuel. There is no way to cut off the fuel; the engine stops only when it blows or the tank runs dry. 

 

-If spark momentarily fails early in the run, unburned nitro builds up in the affected cylinders and then explodes with sufficient force to blow cylinder heads off the block in pieces or split the block in half.

U.S. stock market performance this year reminds me of the Goldilocks economy of the 1990s. Economic growth is only averaging a 1.4 percent run rate, which is hardly anything to write home about.

We created just 162,000 jobs last month. Friday's report only missed consensus by a small margin, but hours worked ticked down once again. Unfortunately, a large number of jobs being created are part-time. There are secular and political forces in place that support a continuation of this trend.

While none of this is constructive for job seekers or the real economy, a weak jobs report isn't necessarily bad news for the markets. Corporations are lean, mean, fighting machines and have learned to produce more with less.

Some employment trends like "on-call scheduling" are hitting workers and their paychecks hard. In retail, many employees are forced to call-in a few hours before their shift to check if they are needed for the day. Others may be sent home early if the company finds it is overstaffed given the workload.

High Alert: US Orders Americans to Leave Yemen Immediately

 

The United States told its citizens in Yemen on Tuesday to leave immediately and airlifted out some U.S. government personnel, following warnings of potential attacks that have pushed Washington to shut diplomatic missions across the Middle East.

The poorest Arab country, Yemen is the base for al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, one of the most active branches of the network founded by Osama bin Laden, and militants have launched attacks from there against the West.


U.S. sources have told Reuters that intercepted communication between bin Laden's successor as al-Qaida leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, and the Yemen-based wing was one part of the intelligence behind their alert last week.

In what a Washington Post columnist describes as a rout of Rand Paul isolationism, the Senate just voted overwhelmingly to send another $1.5 billion in foreign aid to Egypt.

The House voted 400-20 to impose new sanctions on Iran’s oil exports, two days before Iran’s new president, elected on a pledge to re-engage the West on the nuclear issue, takes his oath.

Do these triumphs of AIPAC and the War Party, of neocons and liberal internationalists, tell us where we are going? Or are they the last hurrahs of the interventionists, as America’s long retreat proceeds apace.

If we take what Richard Nixon called “the long view,” the trend line seems unmistakable. Under President Obama, America has pulled all U.S. forces out of Iraq and has scheduled a full withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2014.

Despite his “red line” in Syria having allegedly been crossed, and the cawing of Hill hawks like Sens. Lindsey Graham and John McCain, Obama seems the very portrait of a reluctant warrior in Syria.
A large majority of Americans, too, want no part of that civil war.

Circuit Court: 'Unsettled' if 2nd Amendment Applies Outside of Home

In a case over New Jersey's requirement that a citizen demonstrate "justifiable need" for a carrying a firearm before receiving a concealed carry license, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit ruled that such a requirement "does not burden conduct within the scope of the Second Amendment's guarantee." The court also said "it remains unsettled" whether the Second Amendment is even applicable outside one's home.

Tactical gear vs skills for survival

Being able to fight and survive when SHTF means lot of things. Of course it means to be trained, well equip and ready to fight.

But there is some misunderstanding (just like with many other things when it comes to SHTF and survival in general) when it comes to what you suppose to have with you while you are moving through dangerous area in which you might have to fight in a survival situation.

There are countless discussions on forums about what to have, AR or AK, and what is better, with what weapon you have more chance to win, kill, survive, what kind of pistol, caliber etc.

For example I have used both rifles (AR years later after my time in war), and I prefer AK, but it is better option for ME, maybe not for you because of many reasons.

The second-most senior U.S. diplomat has met with the imprisoned deputy leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, according to a senior official, a sign that the United States is ramping up its attempts to mediate Egypt's political crisis.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Bill Burns traveled late Sunday night to the notorious Tora Prison, a jail in the middle of Cairo that has housed some of Egypt's most famous prisoners, to meet with Khairat el-Shater, the official said.

The Brotherhood had claimed until now that El-Shater refused to meet.

My name is Adam Rush. I'm with the Idaho Transportation Department's Office of Communications, and I received your e-mail inquiring about the RIDE program.

On May 29, 2009, Gov. Butch Otter signed Executive Order 2009-10

mandating, among other things, that state agencies verify that new employees are eligible for employment under federal and state law.

The order came into effect on July 1, 2009. E-verify is one of the tools used to determine employment eligibility and to determine whether documents being presented are authentic and reliable.

Public contractors and subcontractors are required to declare to the contracting state agency that they have substantiated that all employees providing services or involved in any way on projects funded directly by or assisted in whole or part by state funds or federal stimulus dollars are legally authorized to work in the United States.

Idaho joined the E-verify RIDE program, which allows participating employers to determine legal presence and verify identification card and driver's license information. The programs helps confirm whether identity documents being presented are authentic and reliable. No personal information contained within Idaho motor vehicle records is released with this program. The state only responds with a match/no match response on data elements on the card being verified.

The E-verify program should not be confused with REAL-ID. Idaho does not comply with REAL-ID requirements and there is a legislative prohibition on complying with the federal mandate. One of the primary requirements of a REAL-ID state is that each person applying for a driver’s license or ID or persons holding a driver’s license or identification card re-enroll, i.e. prove their identity once again by presenting birth certificates and legal documents to re-confirm who they are. Legal presence of every person would need to be verified. Documents presented to establish a REAL ID would need to be verified by the issuing agencies. Scanned images of all supporting documents presented by individuals would need to be maintained by the state. The state would also have to develop security plans and enhance security for all county driver license locations.

Dem Rep: We're Not Broke; Gov't Just Doesn't Have Your Money...Yet

It’s not a new idea, but then again liberals are not known for “new” ideas. Since the 1910’s, progressive initiatives have been little more than a string of recycled redistributive concepts, and innovative ways to reduce the private ownership of wealth. The ‘Inclusive Prosperity Act’ is the latest in a long string of “transaction tax” proposals. Essentially the act would levy a sales tax on the trading of stocks, bonds and derivatives. And while the tax might be ill-conceived, and economically damaging, it was the sales pitch for the tax that proved to be most disturbing.


“The bottom line is we’re not broke, there’s plenty of money, it’s just the government doesn’t have it,” said Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), “The government has a right, the government and the people of the United States have a right to run the programs of the United States. Health, welfare, housing – all these things.”

 Let us all enjoy art from other cultures.  Notice the vibrant colors used in the painting and the use of advanced foreshadowing in the coloring of the red tunics, foretelling the fate of the deserving target.  It is a joyous painting of the carrying out of social obligations.  Obligations that still exist today.
