Agrarianism and Cultural Renewal

 smith sv

John Randolph, cousin of Thomas Jefferson and an influential model of statesmanship for the Agrarians, could defend the extraordinary position of an inherited Southern worldview in response to a confidant’s query about his attendance at a religious gathering:
I was born and baptized in the Church of England. If I attend the Convention at Charlottesville, which I rather doubt, I shall oppose myself then and always at every attempt at encroachment on the part of the church, the clergy especially, on the rights of conscience. I attribute, in a very great degree, my long estrangement from God to my abhorrence of prelatical pride and puritanical preciseness; to ecclesiastical tyranny…. Should I fail to attend, it will arise from a repugnance to submit the religion, or church, any more than the liberty of my country, to foreign influence. When I speak of my country, I mean the Commonwealth of Virginia. I was born in allegiance to George III; the bishop of London (Terrick!) was my diocesan. My ancestors threw off the oppressive yoke of the mother country, but they never made me subject to New England in matters spiritual or temporal; neither do I mean to become so, voluntarily.[1]

Among the contributions to I’ll Take My Stand, Allen Tate’s “Remarks on the Southern Religion” is usually interpreted as the most acerbic, immoderate, and unusual essay in the collection. All too often the essay is read as an apologia for violence or an eccentric defense of tradition. In fact, Tate–like his fellow Agrarians–was seeking to remind his readers of the religious and political society that was once the South. More importantly, Tate’s essay is a plea for a recovery of what has been lost: a humane social order.

Nourished by daily labors in the fields, it was the properly ordered agrarian community that produced a more stable and wholesome environment for families and workers than industrialism could offer.

Well, of course, it is. That’s simple common sense, and government can try, but the market wins every time. Look I wrote about this a bit over two years ago, here, and if anything has changed, it’s not for the better.

Here’s the takeaway quote for you:

Outrage after Duterte justifies Philippine journalists' murders

Media groups expressed outrage Wednesday at Philippine president-elect Rodrigo Duterte's endorsement of killing corrupt journalists, warning his comments could incite more murders in a nation already one of the world's most dangerous for reporters.

Duterte, who won last month's elections in a landslide after pledging to kill tens of thousands of criminals, told reporters on Tuesday there was justification for killing journalists who took bribes or engaged in other corrupt activities.

"Just because you're a journalist you are not exempted from assassination, if you're a son of a bitch," Duterte said when asked how he would address the problem of media killings in the Philippines after a reporter was shot dead in Manila last week.

The Kursk and our Republic

 https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f6/Kursk_wreck.jpg

The Russian nuclear submarine, 'Kursk' while submerged, suffered a catastrophic explosion of a torpedo, which set off sympathetic detonations of adjacent weapons.  Her entire bow was blown apart, and she flooded and sank in a matter of seconds.  Crew in the forward section of the ship were pulverized by the explosion, fire and enormous water pressure as the boat was driven forward and down, at 30 knots by her nuclear reactors.

A bulkhead held and some men survived the disaster in the after part of the ship . . . for days and days and days, until their oxygen ran out.  They were trapped on the bottom, in the dark, and utterly helpless. They prayed for help.  And help never came.

To me, 'Kursk' is a metaphor for America . . . the explosion has happened, the flooding is happening, and  we can only wait for the impact as our big ship smacks into the muddy bottom, there to begin a long, terrible vigil that never ends.  All that was, is no more and will never be again.

There were a few who knew the dangers inherent in those particular torpedoes.  They were ignored, just as  the few here in America sounding the alarm, of our imminent, disaster are ignored.

Like you, I pray that Trump might be The Guy . . . but so many entrenched mandarins are dead set against  losing their rice bowls, I fear an assassination.  Multiple assassinations, in fact.  Caesar had his Brutus.

Hollywood Wants To Rebrand The Civil War

Julianne Moore wants stricter gun control

The deadliest time in United States history was four years of Civil War, when 640,000 Americans were killed or wounded. Over 260,000 of them were Confederate soldiers. In recognition of those appalling losses, southern and northern states named public buildings, parks, and schools for their fallen soldiers. The U.S. Army named facilities for brave Union officers, and even named ten bases for Confederates. But Hollywood now wants to rebrand the Civil War as a progressive event, acceptable to all Americans.

White teenage unemployment is about 14 percent. That for black teenagers is about 30 percent. The labor force participation rate for white teens is 37 percent, and that for black teens is 25 percent.

Many years ago, in 1948, the figures were exactly the opposite. The unemployment rate of black 16-year-old and 17-year-old males was 9.4 percent, while that of whites was 10.2 percent. Up until the late 1950s, black teens, as well as black adults, were more active in the labor market than their white counterparts. I will return to these facts after I point out some elitist arrogance and moral bankruptcy.

Professor Says American Patriots More Dangerous Than Foreign Terrorists

Via Michael

DavidAlpher

David Alpher has a PhD in “conflict resolution” and teaches at George Mason University. He also writes for some leftists website that no one’s ever heard of until now called The Conversation. His most recent article was picked up by Raw Story on June 1st, at the stroke of midnight.

Entitled “An expert explains why domestic extremists are a much bigger risk than foreign terrorists in America“, Alpher attempts to make a case for painting the modern Patriot movement as being the most dangerous group on the planet. The article originally featured a picture of a Trump rally, but was since replaced with a collage of the mugshots from the Malheur Wildlife Refuge takeover.

Alpher starts off by trying to blame everything on Trump, by saying:

Madness Knocks On The Door And The EU Says "Come On In!"

Via comment by JWMJR on NATO Ally Erdogan Says "Contraception Is Treason

I have long since lost count of the number of times that I have definitively linked the methods, goals and evils of Islam and the Nazis and I'm not going to repeat any of them here. However today's speech by Turkish dictator (I won't dignify him with the title of President) ought to send chills down the spine of anyone with the least bit of common sense. Erdogan in particular and the Islamists in general look upon Europe as ravenous wolves, with the same lust and greed as Hitler and the Nazi had when they looked upon Poland and the western expanses of the Soviet Union. They have no intention of being turned back at the Gates of Vienna this time.

The number of Syrian refugees admitted into the United States jumped to 1,037 during May – an increase of 130 percent over the previous month – but the proportion of Christians among them remains miniscule: two Christians (0.19 percent) compared to 1,035 Muslims.

TRUMP

Comment by Badger on Trump is taking a flamethrower to a stick fight

 http://edberry.com/SiteDocs/TrumpDoubleDown.jpg

For better or worse, at this point I say better. I believe Trump will shock the establishment politicians. I think he will win and win in a landslide. Left or right his attack on a crooked press resonates. His speaking of truth is what the country has wanted.

Even on the left. There are good liberals that are not bat-shit-crazy. They are millions of democrats that do not support homosexual marriage. And millions more that detest the tranny indoctrination and promotion. Many more millions on both sides loathe the career politicians. Trump speaks to the millions and millions of voters that feel completely ignored. I can promise every democrat, formerly factory workers. They saw their jobs go to Mexico and China. They care more about Trumps, “Bringing Jobs Back to America.” Than they do homosexual and transsexual rights. These people will vote for Trump. And the professional politicians along with the establishment do not have a clue what is about to roll over them.

There are liberals, not the bat-shit-crazy ones that fear open borders. They see their jobs taken by illegals and want it stopped. They see school resources that should be educating their children going to illegals. There are liberals that know ISIS is a real threat to them and their families. The democrat establishment has no idea what Trump brings. For the first time in my 64-year lifetime there is a republican candidate that is more exciting than plain white bread. Democrats could have run a pet rock against Romney and the rock would have had more energy and been more exciting.

Trump may very well destroy both parties. (I pray) We the people, are tired of being ignored by our representatives. There is a word everyone needs to begin using, “representatives.” Those people in the Senate and House are NOT our leaders. They are our representatives. They were NOT elected to lead us but to represent our interests. The house members and senators are not elected to represent the democrat party or republican party. They are elected to represent the best interests of their home state and the people that elected them.

The establishment is terrified of Trump. Establishment Democrats are frightened he will do what is says and there will be a positive effect. They have spent decades creating victim classes then pandering to them. If the “victims” realize they have just been used. Establishment Republicans are just as panicked. If their base realizes the only thing they actually supported was themselves becoming rich and powerful. Lastly, the Press is wearing “Depends.” For the first time in their lives, a politician does not cower in fear. Instead he counterattacks. They are dribbling in their drawers, with no idea what to do. Finally, someone stood up against their power. Trump, is Goreing a lot of sacred cows. Sorry, I couldn’t resist the pun.

Much as I wish Trump could turn the country around. I am afraid one man cannot. The corruption is too deep, too entrenched for any one person. If, however Trump is the beginning of a larger movement. Then perhaps there is a slim chance.

Southern Family: Don't Miss This Gem. Buying it as we speak.

What makes the South, the South?  Most modern Americans would say football and grits sprinkled with a bit of country music and NASCAR.

These clichés hold true for many Southerners today, but what made the South before the commercialization of the American economy was a commitment to land, family, and God.  It was both a temporal and a spiritual understanding of the value of community and tradition, of self-determination and independence, of the relationship between God, man, and the environment.

These were not always uniquely Southern traits, but like most of what made America, the South held on to them longer and with greater zeal than any other part of the United States.  Perhaps it was defeat and dislocation that solidified the need for deep roots, for tangible heroes and subtle pleasures.

Time moved with the rhythm of nature, slow and plodding.  Southerners had time to think, reflect, and pray under the hot sun and long growing seasons.  They lived in the dirt.  They communed with the dead and wept for the living.  They were patient.  They had a reflective acceptance of the present, knowing that for many tradition served as a reminder of better times.  They knew that death was a journey with God.

This pain made great music.  It still does.

The recently released Southern Family captures this spirit.   From tears for the living, laughs and lessons at “mama’s table” or from daddy’s guidance, and spiritual paths to “the way home,” the album is a reflection of the traditional South.  Several prominent country stars lend their talents to the collection of ballads and blues, including Jamey Johnson, Zac Brown, John Paul White (of The Civil Wars), and Miranda Lambert.  Also in the lineup are Shooter Jennings (Waylon’s son), Rich Robinson of the Black Crowes, Morgane Stapleton (Chris Stapleton’s wife), Brandy Clark, Jason Isabell, Holly Williams (Hank Jr.’s daughter), Brent Cobb, and Anderson East.

There are no bubble gum tunes about a “party down South” that pollute modern airwaves.  These are real songs from the heart, of home and place.  They sing the listener home. That alone is worth the price of the record.

NATO Ally Erdogan Says "Contraception Is Treason, Women Not Equal To Men, Muslims Must Multiply Descendants"

In a stark warning as to what will happen if Chancellor Angela Merkel allows Turkish citizens visa-free travel throughout Europe, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says "Contraception is Treason, Women Not Equal to Men, Muslims Must Multiply Descendants ."

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on Muslims to reject contraception and have more children.

In a speech broadcast live on TV, he said “no Muslim family” should consider birth control or family planning.

“We will multiply our descendants,” said Mr Erdogan, who became president in August 2014 after serving as prime minister for 12 years.
