Jefferson Davis Memorial Service

This past Saturday, we took a short drive down to Ft. Monroe to attend the Jefferson Davis Memorial Service, held in the Casemate room in which he was imprisoned after the War. The ceremony was held by the Magruder-Ewell Camp #99, and Commander Ken Wood and his men did a wonderful job in conducting a moving and meaningful service.

In war, the only two days you can be sure that morale is at its highest is the first battle of the war, and the last.

Lincoln and His Legacy

Joseph Sobran, RIP

 Dated

At this point it is probably futile to try to reverse the deification of Abraham Lincoln. Next year, if I know my countrymen, the bicentennial of his birth will be marked by stupendously cloying anniversary observances, all of them affirming, if not his literal divinity, at least something mighty close to it.

No doubt we will hear from the high priests and priestesses of the Lincoln cult: Doris Kearns Goodwin, Garry Wills, Harry V. Jaffa, and all the rest of the tireless hagiographers of academia, who regularly rate Honest Abe one of our two greatest presidents, right up there with Stalin’s buddy Franklin D. Roosevelt, father of the nuclear age and defiler of the U.S. Constitution. Such, we are told, is the Verdict of History.

Islam and the Survival of the West: The Crusades. Part 6 of a Series

http://www.historyofjihad.org/crusades13.jpg
Mike Scruggs

Apologists for Islam usually point to the Crusades as Christian behavior similar to Jihad. One popular American text even identifies the Crusades as the beginning of Western colonialism. This view of the Crusades, however, is terribly distorted history. Multiculturalist scholars tend to be very tolerant of everything but Christianity and any aspect of Western culture influenced by Christianity. Hence the Crusades have in recent years been denigrated beyond historical recognition. Yet recent computer-assisted studies of Crusader charters have demolished the foundation of this politically correct and faulty analysis of the Crusades.

A full treatment of the Crusades is far beyond the scope of a short article, but a few facts should be set straight. Within 400 years of Muhammad’s death in 632 AD, militant Islam had conquered by sword and threat an enormous swath of territories that had been Christian for many generations. This included present day Israel, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Spain, Portugal, North Africa, almost all of Turkey, and much of the Balkans. These areas had been the cradle of Christian faith and learning. The conquered areas included the homes of many of the early Church Fathers such as Augustine, Athanasius, and Polycarp. By 1095, Muslims had conquered two of the three most important Christian learning centers of that era—Antioch in Syria and Alexandria in Egypt—and threatened the third, Constantinople (now Istanbul) in modern Turkey. Also in modern Turkey, Chalcedon, the site of the important Church Council of 451 AD, and the seven cities that the Apostle John ministered to and wrote to in the Book of Revelation all fell under the rule of Islam. Thousands of Christians were put to the sword, perished, or were driven from their homes during the Muslim invasion and occupation.

In 1095, Pope Urban II, mourning not only the loss of these historic Christian lands and the oppression of fellow Christians there, but also realizing the impending danger of new Muslim aggression, called for a military campaign to check Muslim expansion and free these lands from their oppressive conquerors. The call to defend Christendom and restore these formerly Christian territories and their peoples to its fold met with a massive and enthusiastic response from knights in all of Christian Europe.

This may seem puzzling to many modern Christians. If so, perhaps we have become too secularized. Perhaps we have been subtly indoctrinated to believe that religious truth is not important and therefore less worth defending than national boundaries and national pride. We have also been influenced in the name of multicultural tolerance and diversity to believe the heretical notion that all religions are equally true and the irrational notion that all religions are equally benign. Perhaps we have become so concerned with our own personal peace, prosperity, and comfortable respectability that we are unable to hear our brethren who are suffering for their faith. In 1198, at the beginning of the Fourth Crusade, Innocent III, a successor to Urban II, wrote:
“How does a man love according to divine precept his neighbor as himself when, knowing that his Christian brothers in faith and in name are held by the perfidious Muslims in strict confinement and weighed down by the yoke of the heaviest servitude, he does not devote himself to the task of freeing them?”

This may seem insensitive to those who have also been indoctrinated to believe Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance. The Koran, the teachings and example of Muhammad, and nearly fourteen centuries of history teach otherwise. Islam was spread by the sword, coercion, and oppression, which are in perfect accordance with the doctrines of the Koran, Muhammad, and Sharia (Islamic Law). Islam then and now is both a religion and a militant totalitarian ideology.

Contrary to the demonization of the Crusaders by modern political correctitude, the motives of the overwhelming majority of these Crusaders were both noble and pious. The First Crusade was successful in restoring Christian rule to key areas in Israel, Syria, Lebanon, and Turkey, but then almost all the Crusaders returned home, leaving the rescued lands once again vulnerable to Muslim reconquest. And so it went, back and forth, for five major crusades.

Not all the Crusader conduct in these Crusades was laudable. An important thing to realize about the Crusades is that they were in general not well organized, especially in comparison with modern armies. Coordination, logistical planning, and communication were poor. Discipline was often poor. In addition, individual political ambitions were sometimes allowed to obscure overall objectives and principles. This led to many blunders, mishaps, misunderstandings, and even crimes. There were various miscarriages of Christian standards of conduct and justice, but generally these were strongly rebuked by local bishops and the Church in Rome. Even necessary and just wars have a corrupting influence on men. War brings out the best in some men, but at the same time can bring out the worst in even the best men. Yet sinful behavior by some in a good cause does not condemn the cause or those who serve it more nobly. In judging the past and the present, it is essential for Christians to remember and acknowledge the doctrine expressed in Latin that we are all simil justus et peccator, though we are justified through faith in Christ, we are at the same time still sinners.

By and large, the Crusaders followed a noble cause with bravery and self-sacrifice that deserves considerable credit. Their nobility has been too much dismissed and their sins too much exaggerated. Unfortunately, much of the popular media and academia have a predominant worldview inimical to Christianity and strangely hostile to Western civilization. Crusader bashing fits this ideology and is an important propaganda tool for them.

But the truth is that the Crusades were meant to recover formerly Christian lands suffering under the cruel religious oppression of Islam and to prevent further Muslim conquests and tyrannical oppression from advancing further into Europe.

Carolina Dog's Prey Drive

My Carolina Dogs have found the home of some small critter, probably a chipmunk or squirrel. There were acorns that fell out first thing. It is the inside of a large long dead pine tree that is leaning against another tree. The critter did not get caught and Has alot more area excavated up inside the tree.
Carolina Dogs have strong prey drive and will work tirelessly to figure out how to get to their prey.

Man puts Gun to Carjackers Head

New Hampshire resident Paul Jensen was sitting in the driver’s seat of his Ford Taurus when would be car thief James Paul opened the passenger door and climbed in.

That’s when things went wrong for the carjacker.

Mr. Jensen is licensed to carry a firearm in the state of New Hampshire, and he just happened to be carrying his firearm at that time.

Is Maureen Dowd Obs0lete?: The Evidence Speaks, Loudly

"Without men, civilization would last until the oil needed changing"
--Federicius Aurelius Superomnem, 345 B.C.

Oh god, oh god. Death, taxes, migraine, sinlus drainage, beriberi, and Maureen Dowd, the resentment columnist at the New York Times. On the web I find her at some feminist bitch-in, called Are Men Obsolete? She has this to say to men:
 ..
“So now that women don’t need men to reproduce and refinance, the question is, will we keep you around? And the answer is, ‘You know we need you in the way we need ice cream.you'll be more ornamental.
I was delighted to think that I might be ornamental, no one having suggested the concept until now.  I could have used it in high school. Maureen herself is beyond being ornamental, having that injection-molded look that follows the seventh face-lift, probably accomplished by the surgical use of a construction crane.

But I will say this to her:

College backs down from Constitution ban

A lawsuit against a California college over its decision to enforce a “free speech zone” and prohibit a student from handing out copies of the U.S. Constitution appears to be on track for a settlement that would revise the school’s policy.

According to the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, a stipulation has been reached in a lawsuit brought against Modesto Junior College.

As WND reported in October, student Robert Van Tuinen filed the complaint after campus police halted his effort to hand out copies of the Constitution in a grassy area by the student center Sept. 17, the anniversary of the Constitution’s signing.

A campus police officer told Van Tuinen he could not pass out any materials without first registering with the student development office.

He was one of several college students banned from handing out copies of the U.S. Constitution on Constitution Day.

FIRE President Greg Lukianoff said the college administrators, who were caught on camera intervening, “were so unfamiliar with the basic principles of free speech that they prevented him from passing out the Constitution to his fellow students on Constitution Day.”

Now, Modesto Junior College has agreed to suspend enforcement of its “free speech zone” during negotiations to end the federal lawsuit.

Aristocrats and the Rise of the Common Man

Lord Acton Image Quotes And Sayings 4 Lord Acton Image Quotes And Sayings 4

At the close of the eighteenth-century, the Southern aristocracy of merchants, planters and lawyers was established as a small, but superior group of gentlemen, educated and of high character – it was they who helped establish the American Union.  The common people of the South were accustomed to aristocratic leadership and tradition for leading families to provide the political representatives of county and State. Rather than money or lust for power over others, “The love of honor, the tradition of family, and noblesse oblige were the dominant motives“ in accepting public office.  This was to change.

North Carolina War Between the States Sesquicentennial Commission
"Unsurpassed Valor, Courage and Devotion to Liberty"
"The Official Website of the North Carolina WBTS Sesquicentennial"

Aristocrats and the Rise of the Common Man

The conservative reaction in political theory of the South . . . was countered by in 1828 by the election of Andrew Jackson to the Presidency.  His inauguration symbolized the rise of the common man to power, and it was the votes of the South and West that won the victory.

In a letter to William Gilmore Simms [of South Carolina, Beverly Tucker declared that Virginia] “had sunk into the slough of democracy, which has no sense of honor.” James Monroe was the last President to wear the knee breeches and silk stockings of the eighteenth-century aristocrat.  A generation later, in 1860-61, three of the most important Southern States were led by men of distinctly plebian origins.

The rise of the common man to political power in the South was a serious threat to freedom of thought and of speech.  The essence of preserving freedom of thought and of speech is the protection of minority rights – the safeguarding the right to express opinions odious to the majority.  The masses can seldom endure any divergence from the majority opinion on matters of deep emotional content.

Lord Acton has observed that toleration is secured with more difficulty in a government controlled by the masses than in an aristocracy.  “For there is a reserve of latent power in the masses,” he points out, “which if called into play the minority can seldom resist.  But from the will of an entire people, there is no appeal, no redemption, no refuge, but tyranny.”

The cardinal doctrine of liberals, held by them from the time of Milton to the recent days of Justice Holmes, that error of opinion can be eradicated only by truth, and not by force, is unsatisfactory to the multitude, impatient for immediate results.  Since the common man is easily swayed by propaganda and the skilful manipulation of pressure groups, the laws and the courts are less important in suppressing free thought than is the power of social disapproval or ostracism.”

Kim Jong-un: "Certifiable" with atomic weapons

Via WiscoDave

Five of the seven officials who walked alongside Kim Jong-il’s hearse in December 2011 have been killed, purged or sent to labour camps

Kim Jong-un’s killing of his uncle is a big deal. It is not as though Jang Song-thaek was one of the “White Hats” of North Korea. (There are none that we know of.) He was a notorious thug, a brother-in-law and accomplice of former dictator Kim Jong II.  Mr. Jang was instrumental in upholding the policy that no one in North Korea can travel, speak or worship freely. He was there when North Korea experienced the “great famine” of 1995-97, which saw between 2.5 million and 3.7 million people starve to death. (That represented between 10% and 15% of the population.) Jang Song-thaek was described at his trial as “despicable human scum” who was “worse than a dog.” The expediency with which he was arrested at the behest of Kim Jong-un, tried and dispatched suggests a tyrannical government led by a psychotic – not the preferred type of individual for leading a country with nuclear weapons.

Keep in mind, baby Kim is a man who took seriously, earlier this year, an article in "The Onion" calling him the “sexiest man in 2012.” Mr. Kim is a man who it was said in February had “moon-walked” – “the first to do so since Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt in 1972.”

Sources: 'Duck Dynasty' Will Likely Be Canceled

 Phil Robertson P.C. Crucified

On Friday, sources close to the Duck Dynasty Robertson family told E! Online that the family was “very serious” about ending the show if Phil Robertson’s suspension stood. The source said, “They’re an extremely tight-knit family and they’re not going to let this get in the way. [Phil] is the reason for their success – they’re not going to abandon him. They’re also not about to let anyone threaten their religious beliefs.

'Duck Dynasty' merchandise is flying off Walmart's digital shelves, with a variety of goods related to the popular A&E reality show out of stock as a furor rages over patriarch Phil Robertson's anti-gay comments and his TV future.

The Robertson family has a merchandise empire worth $400 million, according to Forbes, with sales in Walmart acounting for about half of that amount.

And fans, despite the controversy, aren't shying away from the Duck paraphernalia, The Daily Mail reported Friday. The array ranges from T-shirts to bedding, posters, watches and toys, but by Friday night, many of the items were listed as "out of stock online."

Word of the shopping stampede was burning up social media as well, with fans spreading the word via Twitter.

Bigger, Badder NDAA 2014 Quietly Passed the House and Senate – and It Is On the Way to Obama’s Desk

Via Teresa Sue

 ndaa flag

While everyone is distracted with the holiday festivities, Congress has been hard at work, screwing us over in the name of national security.

Yesterday the 2014 National Defense Authorization Act was fast-tracked through the Senate, with no time for discussion or amendments.  And you know, its Christmastime, so they just passed it so that they could recess for the holidays. The new version of the NDAA has already been quietly passed by the House of Representatives.

It authorizes massive spending, including $527 billion in base defense spending.

Media Assassination: Duck Dynasty

http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/duck-dynasty-robertson-family-statement.jpg

I confess I did not read the GQ article that started the Duck Dynasty controversy. I don't know if Phil Robertson linked his views on homosexuality with his faith. I don't know and I don't care. I have watched Duck Dynasty and here is my take on the Robertson clan: They don't care about the show near as much as A&E does.

Not too long ago there was a story about A&E wanting to keep the prayers in the show general and not to mention Jesus. To this, Phil Robertson said no Jesus, no show. I think the GQ interview was a hit piece. It was set up by A&E. I think they wanted to get rid of Phil and thought they might be able to deal with the children if he were out of the picture. So, they set up this interview and they were shocked, shocked that he might say something that would give them the moral high ground for suspending him.
