Islam, Europe, and Slavery

At Midsummer 1631, Barbary pirates from North Africa raided the Irish village of Baltimore, and took several hundred local people into lifelong captivity.  Such a distant projection of Islamic power might seem extreme and even bizarre, but it was no such thing.  Forgotten today, the danger of Arab and Turkish assault remained a nightmare for the vast majority of Europeans throughout the 16th and 17th centuries, and well beyond that date in some regions.

By way of chronology, the critical dates were 1525-26, when the pirate Barbarossa took Algiers and pledged allegiance to the Ottoman Empire.  At the same time, the Ottomans smashed the once great Christian state of Hungary, making Budapest a border city.  At least until the 1680’s, thoughtful Europeans speculated just how much farther the Ottomans might extend their rule.  The Christian victory at Vienna in 1683 provided some security, but Ottoman-sponsored banditry and slave-raiding deep into the Holy Roman Empire persisted long afterward.

"He Never Went In":Armed Officer On Duty Filmed "Doing Nothing" During Florida Shooting

Via Jonathan

Video evidence reveals that an armed Broward County resource deputy stationed at Stoneman Douglas High School during the Valentine's day massacre did "nothing" during the shooting - instead waiting outside as a gunman opened fire on students and teachers, killing 17.

Speaking at a press conference, Broward Sheriff Scott Israel said the on duty officer at Stoneman "never went in." Israel said he was "devastated" after watching the video showing the deputy taking a position outside the Western side of Building 12 while shots rang out, "and he never went in" despite having a clear view of the entrance.

"I think he remained outside upwards of four minutes," Israel said.

The uniformed officer, identified as Scot Peterson, was been suspended without pay pending an investigation, according to Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel - however he has since resigned and retired from the department.

"As is his right, Scot Peterson chose to resign, because he has the necessary time with the agency and meets the requirements of retirement, he resigned and retired."

"We're not going to disclose the video at this time, and we may never disclose the video depending on the prosecution and the criminal case."

"These families lost their children, we lost coaches. I've been to the funerals. I've been to the homes where they're sitting shiva. I've been to the vigils. It's just, there are no words."

When asked by a reporter what the deputy should have done, the Sheriff replied "Went in. Address the killer. Kill the killer."

Marion Maréchal-Le Pen warns of 'Islamic countersociety,' embraces Trump's 'America First' at CPAC

Right-wing French former parliamentarian Marion MarĂ©chal-Le Pen, in a speech Thursday, warned the Conservative Political Action Conference of the dangers of mass migration from Islamic countries and said that France should embrace a version of President Trump’s “America First.”

The 28-year-old niece of failed 2017 French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen, and granddaughter of far-right National Front's founder Jean-Marie Le Pen, offered a European nationalist-populist slant on the American conservative outlook in her address.

CNN, Jake Tapper Face Growing Criticism Over ‘Abusive’ Anti-Gun ‘Show Trial’

Jake Tapper, of CNN's State of the Union, speaks to a crowd at the Harvard Institute of Politics Forum before Trump Campaign Manager Kellyanne Conway and Clinton Campaign Manager Robby Mook enter the room for an event titled 'War Stories: Inside Campaign 2016' on December 1, 2016 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. CNN’s anti-gun town hall event and its left-wing moderator, Jake Tapper, are facing widespread criticism over what many saw as a bullying “show trial.”

Tapper is being singled out for much of the criticism from those who say he remained silent as abusive personal attacks were hurled at Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and NRA spokesperson Dana Loesch. Incredibly, Tapper also remained silent as his audience booed a rape victim.

At the Wednesday night spectacle, those in favor of protecting our Second Amendment civil rights were vastly outnumbered by an audience packed with hostile gun-haters and emotional questioners, including children.

According to various reports, the anti-gun participants were given scripted questions crafted by CNN. The last-place network has denied this by attacking a school shooting victim as a liar. His accusation, however, is credible given CNN’s long and disturbing history of using plants.

Trump Threat: ‘I Am Thinking About’ Pulling ICE out of California

Trump arms folded ICE California (Evan Vucci / Associated Press)

Breitbart

President Donald Trump threatened Thursday to pull the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency out of California to punish the state for what he called its efforts to shield criminal gang members in “sanctuary cities.”

Trump was addressing a meeting of state and local government leaders at the White House who had gathered to discuss how to improve safety and security at the nation’s schools, in the wake of the mass shooting last week at the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
After praising the work of Attorney General Jeff Sessions in fighting against gangs, Trump addressed the question of opposition form the State of California directly:
They [the MS-13 gang] actually have franchises going to Los Angeles. We’re getting no help from the State of California. I mean, frankly, if I wanted to pull our people from California, you would have a crime mess like you’ve never seen in California. All I’d have to do is say, “ICE and Border Patrol,  let California alone.” You’d be inundated — you would see crime like no one has ever seen crime in this country. And yet, we get no help from the State of California. They are doing a lousy management job. They have the highest taxes in the nation, and they don’t know what’s happening out there. Frankly, it’s a disgrace. The “sanctuary city” situation, the protection of these horrible criminals — you know it, because you’re working on it — the protection of these horrible criminals in California, and other places, but in California, that if we ever pulled our ICE out, and we ever said, “Let California alone, let them figure it out for themselves,” in two months, they’d be begging for us to come back. They would be begging. And you know what? I am thinking about doing it.
Ironically, one of the frequent themes of anti-Trump and pro-amnesty protests in California is the demand to push ICE out of California. Democrat-dominated cities have passed resolutions to limit cooperation with ICE and vowed to defy the federal government’s attempt to enforce immigration laws, with the mayor of Oakland even promising to go to jail in protest. Trump threatened to take activists at their word and let the state live with the consequences.

One of the officials present at the White House was Mayor Christine Hunschofsky of Parkland, who thanked the president for his “Listening Session” on Wednesday, where students from the school addressed the president directly, along with parents and community members. Hunschofsky praised Trump for “being committed to action.”

Guns Alert

I was contacted by the individual in the tape to alert others to the tactic being used by a Hollywood style documentary maker who is intent upon making the gun rights community look ridiculous and extreme. While he may have fallen victim to the tactic, beware that you do not take part. You can listen to the audio message here:

Jobless claims plunge to 222,000, second-lowest since the early 1970s

New applications for unemployment benefits dropped 7,000 to 222,000 in the second full week of February, the Department of Labor reported Thursday, the second-lowest mark of the recovery and a good sign for the economy.

Forecasters had expected new jobless claims to remain steady at an ultra-low 230,000. Lower claims are good news because they mean fewer people are getting laid off.

Thursday's mark is the lowest since the early 1970s, setting aside the week of January 13, when claims touched as low as 216,000.

It’s Getting Real Out There…

As most who know me know, I’m not a fan of the NRA and haven’t been for a long, long time, ever since I learned they gave tacit approval to the ’94 AWB that Bill Ruger helped craft.  I quit, as a Life Member on the payment plan.  In my book, they’re way, way to nice when it comes to stopping government infringement on our protected rights.

That said, what happened in Florida to Dana Loesch, the NRA’s spokesperson, demonstrates what’s happening to civility in our country.

“I want to make this super obvious point,” Loesch said. “The government has proven that they cannot keep you safe. And yet, some people want all of us to disarm. You heard that town hall last night. They cheered the confiscation of firearms. And it was over 5,000 people.”

“I had to have a security detail to get out,” she said of the Sunland, Fla. event. “I wouldn’t be able to exit that if I didn’t have a private security detail. There were people rushing the stage and screaming burn her. And I came there to talk solutions and I still am going to continue that conversation on solutions as the NRA has been doing since before I was alive.”

Read the rest, here.

“Burn her”?

As in burn at the stake or in a fire, ‘burn her’?

Civility is failing fast.  Sage advice I’ve read somewhere before:  “Be polite, be professional, and have a plan to kill everyone you meet.”  Additionally, carry.  24/7.  You might be glad you did.

National Rifle Association (NRA) CEO Wayne LaPierre on Thursday warned conservatives that socialists are smearing gun rights advocates and seeking to eliminate their rights.

“Socialism is a movement that loves a smear. Racists, misogynists, sexists, xenophobe and more. These are the weapons and vitriol these character assassinations permanently hang on their targets because socialism feeds off manipulated victims,” LaPierre told the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

LaPierre claimed "European socialists” are taking over the Democratic Party. He also named the “Occupy” movement, Black Lives Matter and antifa as examples of social groups that he claimed promote “uncivil discourse” and aim to "eliminate due process."

Education Commentary Horrific Sex Ed Curriculum Is Taking Over in This Virginia County, and Objectors Are Getting Steamrolled

Via Billy

I usually avoid really sick, appalling spectacles. I skip movies like “Saw.”

But last Thursday I saw something worse. I went to the sex education committee meeting of the Fairfax County School Board. I have never seen anything as shocking.

Understand that I have sat through years of shocking meetings. My day job is monitoring and lobbying the United Nations. But I have never seen or heard anything like this. This meeting was a horror show. And a Soviet one at that.

The Family Life Education Curriculum Advisory Committee advises the Fairfax County School Board for the content of the sex education lessons taught to students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

AMAZING NEW BREAKTHROUGH TO REDUCE MASS SHOOTINGS!

Image result for AMAZING NEW BREAKTHROUGH TO REDUCE MASS SHOOTINGS!

As fun as it is to ridicule the FBI for devoting massive resources to chasing down Hillary Clinton's oppo research while blowing off repeated, specific warnings about school shooter Nikolas Cruz, we've put a lot on the agency's plate.

We're hauling in nearly 2 million manifestly unvetted Third World immigrants every year, leading to a slew of FBI "Watch Lists" with a million names apiece. In 2015, Director James Comey said that there were ISIS investigations in all 50 states -- even Idaho and Alaska! And that's just one terrorist organization.

Maybe the FBI brass would still be a bunch of incompetent, PC nincompoops if we weren't dumping millions of psychotic and terrorist foreigners on the country. But even the most efficient organization would have trouble keeping track of the Nikolas Cruzes when our immigration policies require approximately one-third of the country to be constantly watching another third of the country.

Soros wants more migrants and open borders

Anyone who criticises Hungary’s “Stop Soros” bill, which seeks to put restrictions on migration, questions its government’s power to take sovereign decisions, the foreign minister said on Tuesday.

It is clear that illegal migration works against Hungary’s interests and dismantling the fence along the country’s southern borders would work against the security interests of Hungarians, Peter Szijjarto told a press conference held in Budapest on another topic.

“So-called civil groups” promoting migration and open borders are against Hungary’s national security interests, he said. It is the duty of the government to take measures, including legal ones, to prevent activities that compromise the country’s national security, he said.

Fla. shooting survivor says CNN rejected town hall armed guards question: 'It ended up being all scripted'

"If coach Feis had had his firearm in school that day, I believe that he could have most likely stopped the threat," Haab told Fox News on Feb. 17.

A student survivor of last week's mass shooting at a Parkland, Fla., high school said he was asked by CNN to "write a speech and ask questions" for a town hall but declined to attend the event after "it ended up being all scripted," a claim the network is pushing back on.

"CNN had originally asked me to write a speech and questions and it ended up being all scripted," Colton Haab told WPLG-TV, an ABC affiliate in Miami.

"I expected to be able to ask my questions and give my opinion on my questions," said Haab.
"I don't think that it's going get anything accomplished," he concluded.

Reps Question DHS’s Decision to Deny Asylum to 100 Iranian Christians, Other Religious Minorities

Reps. Randy Hultgren (R., Ill.) and James McGovern (D., Mass.) want answers from the Trump administration about the reasons behind a Department of Homeland Security decision to deny refugee status in the United States for dozens of Iranian Christians and other Iranian religious minorities.

The congressman, co-chairs of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, on Tuesday said they are disappointed that DHS has denied asylum to a large percentage of a group of roughly 100 Iranians fleeing religious persecution in Iran.
