27 pound lobster!
The biggest lobster ever caught in Maine, a 27-pounder nicknamed "Rocky" with claws tough enough to snap a man's arm, was released on Thursday after being trapped in a shrimp net last week, marine officials said.
Progress on plans for Galway Che Guevara monument
Braindead, no less.
A major and innovative monument to the Irish-Argentinean revolutionary, guerilla, doctor, writer, and politician Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara, has taken a step closer to becoming a reality this week.
The Galway Advertiser understands that City Hall’s arts officer James Harrold will commission a scale model of the proposed monument to be made. This will then be presented to the Galway City Council’s Working Group on Public Arts for consideration, and later city manager Joe O’Neill for final approval. The approval of city councillors may also need to be sought.
The idea to erect a monument to Che Guevara comes from a proposal made by Labour councillor Billy Cameron, an ardent admirer of the revolutionary,Graves of British troops smashed and desecrated by Libyan Islamists in protest over U.S. soldiers' Koran burning
A furious mob has desecrated dozens of Commonwealth War Graves in a Libyan cemetery amid continuing fury in the Middle East over the burning of the Koran by U.S. soldiers.
Headstones commemorating British and Allied servicemen, killed during World War II campaigns in the Western Desert, lay smashed and strewn across Benghazi Military Cemetery.
Protesters rampaged through site on Friday, despite efforts by America to calm tensions sparked when it emerged U.S. soldiers had burned Muslim holy books in a pile of rubbish at a military base in Afghanistan.
U.S. Pulls Out Advisers After Two Killed in Kabul
U.S. Marine Gen. John Allen ordered the unprecedented move after an American colonel and major were both found shot in the head at the busy Interior Ministry compound that is the nerve center for the Afghan law enforcement, according to one Western official in Kabul.
"We are investigating the crime and we will pursue all leads to find the person responsible for this attack," Gen. Allen said in a statement. "The perpetrator of this attack is a coward whose actions will not go unanswered."
Afghan and American officials shut down the ministry compound in central Kabul as they launched an investigation into the killings in one of the most heavily guarded parts of the capital.
Top U.S. military officials said they were still trying to determine the identity of the attacker. But one Western official in Kabul said that the two Americans were shot by an Afghan police official who was upset about the burning of Qurans earlier this week at a U.S. military base.

Gun club must go
"Boo hoo to the whiners and crybabies in Sheffield. The gun range has been there longer the subdivision. Get over it."
"The mayor of Sheffield says it’s time for the shooting range to go. Maybe it’s time for him and the City Council to go. Seems they would have enough to do deciding where to install the next speed bump."
"The You Said It section in Sunday’s paper had a caller that stated that the shooting club members from Lauderdale County should just stay away from Sheffield. So, that’s exactly what I’m going to do. I’m going to stay out of Sheffield. I will never spend another nickel in that town."
"I believe that the people in the subdivision that want the firing range moved, if they don’t like living there, they knew it when they moved there. If they don’t like that, they should just sell their houses or whatever and leave. We need that firing range. I’ve used it one time and I need to use it again because we’re having so many break-ins and stuff. We need to know how to take care of ourselves. So, you need to hush what you’re doing and leave them alone
Black History Month Spotlight: Free Colored Slave Owners
“There were black masters in every State where slavery existed [including the North], many black Americans of the antebellum period believed that slavery was a viable economic system. In Louisiana, Maryland, South Carolina and Virginia, free blacks owned more than 10,000 slaves, according to the Federal census of 1850. Many of the black masters in the Lower South were large planters who owned scores of slaves and planted large quantities of cotton, rice, and sugar cane.
In 1860, for example, Auguste Donatto, a free colored planter of St. Landry Parish in Louisiana, owned 70 slaves who worked 500 acres of land and produced 100 bales of cotton. About 600 miles to the east…in the county of Sumter, South Carolina, William Ellison, a free colored planter, used the labor of 70 slaves to cultivate 100 bales of cotton in 1861. {in the same State], Robert Michael Collins and Margaret Mitchell Harris used their slaves to till the soil of Santee Plantation and grew 240,000 pounds of rice in 1849.
In 1860, Madame Ciprien Ricard and her son Pierre Ricard , free mulattoes of Ibeville Parish, owned 168 slaves. The joint operation of mother and son used the labor of slaves to produce 515 hogsheads of sugar in 1859. Not all of the black masters were planters, nor were they all from the South. In 1830 the city of New York had eight black slave-owners who owned 17 slaves. The institution of black slave-owning was widespread, stretching as far north as New York and as far south as Florida, extending westward into Kentucky, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Missouri.
Where did these free black masters come from? Many…were former slaves…emancipated for meritorious military duty, faithful service, saving a life, and other such reasons. Many of the colored slave owners inherited slaves from black relatives as well as white kinsfolk. A few black masters owned slaves in West Africa and transported their slaves to the New World.”

Columbine Father 12 years later …….
Guess our national leaders didn’t expect this, hmm? On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton , Colorado , was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.
They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness.. The following is a portion of the transcript:
We Should Have Enemies
Verbatim Post
Some years ago, I was talking to a friend at church about a horrible accident that happened to someone we knew. I remarked, “I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.” He replied, “I don’t have any enemies.” Many in today’s culture would say that’s a good thing, that we should not have any enemies; but is it?
The only way that one can go through life without any enemies is to not take a stand on anything and agree with everything. That is not the life of the Southern gentleman. Living an honorable life means that we must take a stand on issues that most of society will disagree with. That does not mean violent conflict though – far from it. The Holy Bible tells us that we, as Christians, are to love our enemies. That says that we are expected to have enemies, otherwise why would be instructed to love them?
Who would fall into the category of an enemy of a Southern gentleman? Much of the Hollywood “entertainment” industry would be a good start – nothing beats Hollywood when it comes to destroying the traditional culture of The Old South and all that it stands for. Who would you count as an enemy – someone that you have taken a stand against? If no person or group comes to mind, then have you ever really taken a stand against evil?
