Vietnam now produces twice as many Adidas shoes as China

Vietnam now produces twice as many Adidas shoes as China, according to company filings.

If you had guessed that in 2018, China’s garment industry would be shifting abroad, most economists would have called you crazy. China invented high-volume garment exports, with entire cities in the country growing around the production and perfection of certain types of clothing.

At one point, Datang, China's 'Sock City,' made most of the world’s socks in a given year, an estimated nine billion pairs. Other garment cities that specialize in things like children’s clothing, underwear or sweaters, similarly tower over an internationally competitive landscape in which China, with its low salaries and organized infrastructure, has long been top dog.

But that’s no longer the case for shoe manufacturers, who have begun to seek a bluer competitive ocean in Vietnam. Salaries here trend to about half of those in China, according to the Japan External Trade Organization, which has been attracting large-scale international players.

[Photos} Take a Day Trip to Vung Tau Half a Century Ago

I recognize many of the places and we stayed at the Grand Hotel for our honeymoon.
I have many pictures  which I'll post later.

For some residents from Saigon and other southern provinces, Vung Tau has always been a sleepy tourist town that’s perfect for a weekend away, but not much else. However, if these photos of the town in the late 1960s are any indication, Vung Tau also had a vibrant local life that’s usually hidden away from the eyes of tourists.

The collection of images, compiled by our favorite Flickr archivist, manhhai, was taken in 1967-1968 by an anonymous author, showing vintage hotels, beachside cafés and scores of interesting modernist buildings.

Take a trip down memory lane with these photos of Vung Tau half a century ago:

Yankee Sanctification

Like the 19th-century abolitionist Lysander Spooner remarked, the eventual result of the War may have been the abrogation of chattel slavery, but what the South (and America as a whole) got in return was political slavery. This is Yankee sanctification, y’all. And it’s god-awful and anything but pure.

“It was my first introduction to damn Yankees,” my oldest sister remarked of her first semester at James Madison University in the fall of 1982. It was here, at this university nestled in the mountains of Virginia and named after one of the state’s most famous sons, that her Northern dormitory suite-mates were horrified by such flagrant abuse of their delicate and enlightened sensibilities.

My sister’s crime? Being unapologetically Southern. See, she had not only hung on the wall an ornamental Derringer handgun, which these Pennsylvania and Jersey girls chirped would surely be the death of them, but she had the brazen balls – of which many a Southern belle are known to figuratively possess – to also quietly display a huge Confederate Battle Flag beside her bed.

After months of talking about a giant Confederate flag on U.S. 70, Orange County has new rules for raising flags on public and private property.

The owner of the 400-square-foot flag outside Hillsborough will have to replace it with a smaller version by next year, although he'll be able to keep his 60-foot-tall flagpole.

Commissioners Chairman Mark Dorosin missed the Orange County Board of Commissioners' 6-0 vote Tuesday night. The board didn't support Commissioner Earl McKee's suggestion, after an hour of public comment, that they move the vote to June 19 so more people could weigh in.

The new rules ensure "simple courtesy," Commissioner Mark Marcoplos said. He compared the issue to someone playing acoustic guitar on their deck vs. "blowing out your neighbors" with heavy metal music.

Hamas Leader: 50 of 62 Gazans Killed During Border Riots Were Our Members

At least 55 Palestinians were killed on Monday with more than 2,400 wounded

The Times of Israel reports: A Hamas official on Wednesday acknowledged that 50 of the 62 Palestinians reported killed during Gaza border riots on Monday and Tuesday were members of the Islamist terrorist group, bringing the total number of known members of terror groups among the fatalities up to 53.

“In the last rounds of confrontations, if 62 people were martyred, 50 of them were Hamas,” said Hamas official Salah Bardawil in an interview with the Palestinian Baladna news outlet.

The Iran-backed Palestinian Islamic Jihad had said on Tuesday that three members of its Saraya al-Quds military wing were killed by Israeli forces in Khan Younis.

Kevin McCarthy Slams Discharge Petition Amnesty Push: ‘Number One Way’ to ‘Depress Intensity’ in Midterms

 Kevin McCarthy, Paul Ryan

In a House GOP conference meeting on Tuesday, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy lit into an effort by some in the party to lead a discharge petition to force an amnesty bill to the floor of the House of Representatives.

“Our numbers are better,” McCarthy told House GOP members, per a source in the room. “If election is today we win. Will we continue to grow. But few things can disrupt us. We cannot disrupt ourselves. Intensity levels are still not there, and discharge petitions release the power of the floor that the American people gave us the responsibly to hold. When you release that power the majority goes to Nancy. If you want to depress intensity this is number one way to do it. We can debate internally but don’t let someone else like Nancy decide our future.”

Three House Republicans asked President Trump to instruct the Department of Justice to release documents related to potential FISA abuse, the Russia probe and more.

Reps. Mark Meadows (N.C.), Jim Jordan (Ohio) and Ron DeSantis (Fla.) penned the letter to the president and said the DOJ hasn't complied with Congressional requests and subpoenas.

"We're tired of un-elected people at the Department of Justice repeatedly not giving us information we're entitled to receive," Jordan said Wednesday on "Outnumbered Overtime."

President Trump has nominated former Hawaii Attorney General Bennett for a vacant position on the Ninth Circuit.

If confirmed, he would maintain the Ninth’s hostility towards the Second Amendment and free speech.

Bennett’s track record offers insight into the future if he is appointed, which looks awfully bleak.
While Attorney General in Hawaii, he filed an amicus brief in Heller arguing that “the Second Amendment has no application to state laws.”

He also has a dubious record when it comes to protecting free speech, leading Sen. Ted Cruz to call him out at a confirmation hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Georgia State Senator Michael Williams, Trump’s former GA Co-Chair and Republican candidate for Governor, has been met with Antifa protesters on his “Deportation Bus Tour.”

The grey campaign bus is adorned with slogans such as “fill this bus with illegals” and “FOLLOW ME TO MEXICO.”

“There were already over two dozens protesters that were at our campaign office when we got there this morning,” Williams told Gateway Pundit on Wednesday. “The sheriff’s department showed up and actually had to chase off a few people that they thought to be MS-13.”

In his campaign ad unveiling the new bus, Williams explained his policy that eve
ry city in Georgia would have to participate in 287(g), the federal program that allows local police and sheriffs to cooperate with the feds on immigration enforcement.

Judge Nap on 'Political Justice' at DOJ: They Prosecuted Roger Clemens, But Not James Clapper

Fox News senior judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano said James Clapper may have lied to Congress about leaking information to the media, but he has a history of escaping prosecution for perjury.

Clapper, the former director of national intelligence, said in a March 12 CNN interview that he had no contact with anyone from the media until after he left the government.

The House Intelligence Committee, however, found in a heavily redacted report that Clapper provided "inconsistent testimony" to Congress when he denied discussing the infamous anti-Trump dossier or any other intelligence related to the Russia investigation with journalists.

NBC cancels 'extremely liberal' drama 'Rise' amid backlash for mocking Christianity with far-left talking points

The Media Research Center has accused NBC’s now-canceled “Rise” of anti-Christian storylines.

NBC has canceled “Rise” after critics accused the show of being anti-Christian and going out of its way to squeeze in liberal talking points.

The Media Research Center, which has tracked the “extremely liberal high school drama” for bias against Christians, posted an article celebrating its demise. "Rise," which starred Rosie Perez and Josh Radnor, was about a drama teacher who polarizes the town with his passion for musicals – specifically the provocative “Spring Awakening.”

Two Colleagues Contradict Brennan's Denial of Reliance on Dossier

Former CIA Director John Brennan’s insistence that the salacious and unverified Steele dossier was not part of the official Intelligence Community Assessment on Russian interference in the 2016 election is being contradicted by two top former officials.

Recently retired National Security Agency Director Michael Rogers stated in a classified letter to Congress that the Clinton campaign-funded memos did factor into the ICA. And James Clapper, Director of National Intelligence under President Obama, conceded in a recent CNN interview that the assessment was based on “some of the substantive content of the dossier.” Without elaborating, he maintained that “we were able to corroborate” certain allegations.

Experts Believe They May Finally Know What Happened To Malaysian Airlines Flight 370

United Airlines Boeing 737 at Los Angeles International Airport on June 18, 2017 in Los Angeles, California.

Experts investigating the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight 370, which "vanished" into thin air in 2014 while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, China, now say they believe the 53-year-old pilot committed suicide, taking the plane on a bizarre journey which ended with a crash in the Indian Ocean.

According to NDTV, investigators now think the plane's captain, Capt. Zaharie Ahmad Shah, depressurized the plane within minutes of takeoff, grabbing an oxygen mask for himself while his crew members and passengers passed out and then slowly suffocated.

Kerry And His Mystical Khmer Dau (Rouge)

I've been asked a number of times about John Kerry’s unauthorized actions with Iran compared to Ted Kennedy’s unauthorized actions with the Kremlin. Kerry, this spring 2018, sought to undermine President Trump’s policies, whereas Kennedy, spring 1983, sought to undermine President Reagan’s policies.

Many people — including the president of the United States — want to know if Kerry’s actions constitute a violation of the Logan Act. It’s a question I’m frequently asked about Kennedy. The short answer, in both cases, is that I’m not the source to provide the answer. Congress is. The Democratic Congress in the 1980s didn’t hesitate to launch criminal proceedings against President Ronald Reagan and his staff (many of them fine men of great integrity) in a militant pursuit for impeachment over “Iran-Contra.” Liberal Democrats did so while turning a blind eye as their leader — House Speaker Jim Wright — buddied up to Sandinista dictator Daniel Ortega in his own negotiations.
