NC: Reasons for the Solid South
Zebulon B. Vance of North Carolina, former colonel, wartime governor and later United States Senator, explained to his Senate colleagues in 1879 by what manner the Southern States became solidly Democratic after the war. Vance, a prewar Unionist, was astonished at the temper of the Republican party victors and that they would subvert all law and civil governments in the South for the purpose of party supremacy.

Reasons for the Solid South
“Mr. President, who made the South solid?
The answer is as plain and unmistakable as it is possible to make anything to the human intellect: the Republican party is responsible for this thing. At the beginning of the late war almost the entire Whig party of the South, with a large and influential portion of the Democratic, were in favor of the Union and deprecated with their whole souls the attempt at its destruction, but through love of their native States and sympathy with their kindred and neighbors they were drawn into the support of the war.
Their wisdom in opposing it was justified by the ruinous results; their patriotism and courage were highly appreciated, and when peace came this class were in high favor at the South, while the secessionists as the original advocates of a disastrous policy were down in public estimation.
If you gentlemen of the North had then come forward with liberal terms and taken these men by the hand, you could have established a party in the South that would have perpetuated your power in this Government for a generation, provided you had listened to the views of those men, and respected their policy on questions touching their section.
But you pursued the very opposite course, a course which compelled almost every decent, intelligent man of Anglo-Saxon prejudices and traditions to take a firm and determined stand against you; a course which consolidated all shades of political opinion into one resolute mass to defend what they conceived to be their ancient forms of government, laws, liberties and civilization itself. By confiscation and the destruction of war, you had already stripped us of property to the extent of at least $3,000,000,000 and left our land desolate, rent and torn, our homes consumed with fire, and our pleasant places a wasted wilderness.
Peace then came – no, not peace, but the end of war came – no, not the end of war, but the end of legitimate, civilized war, and for three years you dallied with us. One day we were treated as though we were in the Union, and as though we had legitimate State governments in operation; another day we were treated as though we were out of the Union, and our State governments were rebellious usurpations. It was a regular game of “Now you see it and now you don’t.” We were in the Union for all purposes of oppression; we were out of it for all purposes of protection.
Finally, seeing that we still remained Democratic, the Union was dissolved by act of Congress and we were formally legislated outside in order that you might bring us into the Union again in such a way as to guarantee us a Republican form of government – that is, that we should vote the Republican ticket; and you cited Article IV, Section 4, of the Constitution as your authority to do this.
You deposed our State governments and ejected from office every official, from Governor to township constable, and remitted us to a State of chaos in which the only light of human authority for the regulation of human affairs and the control of human passions was that which gleamed from the polished point of the soldier’s bayonet.
You disenfranchised at least ten per cent of our citizens, embracing the wisest, best and most experienced. You enfranchised our slaves, the lowest and most ignorant; and you placed over them as leaders a class of men who have attained the highest positions of infamy known to modern ages.
In order to preserve the semblance of consent, conventions were called to form new [State] constitutions, the delegates to which were chosen by this new and unheard of constituency, The military counted the votes, often at the headquarters in distant States, the general in command determining the election and qualifications of the delegates.
Perhaps the annals of the [Anglo-Saxon] race from which we spring, with all its various branches spread throughout the world, cannot furnish such a parody upon the principles of free government based upon the consent of the governed.
[So constituted], the new governments went to work, and in the short space of four years they plundered those eleven Southern States to the extent of $262,000,000; that is to say, they took all that we had that was amenable to larceny, and they would have taken more, doubtless, but for the same reason that the weather could not get any colder in Minnesota, as described by a returned emigrant from that State.
And now recalling these facts and a hundred more which I cannot now name, can any candid man wonder that we became solid? Can he wonder that old Whigs and Democrats, Union men and secessionists, should unite in a desperate effort to throw off the dominion of a party which had inflicted these things upon them? And your military interference, your abuse, and your denunciations continue unto this day.
The Negro alone is your friend and very few whites . . . [though] One by one the Northern adventurers who led them have packed their carpet-bags and silently stolen back to the slums of Northern society whence they originated, and the lonely Republican makes his solitary lair in some custom-house or post-office or revenue headquarters. The broad, free, bright world outside of these retreats in all the South is Democratic, thanks to you, the Republican party of the North.”

Federal Judge Says Illegal Aliens Don’t Have to Post Bond
Via Joe
Illegal aliens who can’t afford it after they are detained for breaking immigration law do not have to post a bond to be released from federal prison says a federal judge in Seattle.
U.S. District Judge Robert Lasnik “said that the immigration court’s blanket refusal to consider conditional parole for immigrant detainees potentially impinges on a detainee’s due-process and liberty interests.”
Illegal immigrants gathered to complain about detention facilities they were held in after illegally sneaking across the border saying their children were “depressed” after months-long stays.

Illegal Aliens Complain About Most Everything
Galeano, who entered the country illegally last November and was detained for more than five months, said the children are unaccustomed to being restricted to the facility and have trouble with the more rigid eating and schooling schedules. She said the food, such as reheated vegetables and chicken mixed with pineapple and oranges, is also foreign to them.

NC: Police: Man leaving ice cream stand on child's scooter assaulted, robbed
Via LH
Statesville police are looking for a group of men they say knocked a man off of his child's scooter, then robbed and assaulted him on Monday night.
The man told police he was riding the Razor scooter from the ice cream stand on Newton Drive back to his home. He told police that a group of around 10 black males between the ages of 16 and 20, approached him and asked if they could ride his scooter. After he said "no," he rode off and that's when he says he was hit in the back of head and knocked off of the scooter.

Death Wish: Fearless Race up Pikes Peak
What could be more exhilarating than one of the most extreme Group B rally cars climbing one of the most dangerous courses in record time? We look back at Director Jean Louise Mourney’s 1988 film suitably titled ” Climb Dance” documenting Ari Vatenen’s record breaking time at the historic course.
Ari’s electrifying run would prove to be quite a record, in fact, the record stood for six years till eventually being broken in 1994. The film was beautifully shot with POV angles, helicopter shots, and candid exterior shots of Vatenen’s Peugeot sliding and gliding through the gravel. There are many moments throughout that will have your stomach in knots trying to figure out how some one can be so fearless drifting next to a cliff in a car with over 500hp.

Ukrainian
oligarch Victor Pinchuk, 54, has courted the Clintons for at least nine
years – in the United States, the Alps and Ukraine.
Earlier
this year, he was confirmed as the largest individual contributor to
the Clinton Foundation, whose aims include the creation of “economic
opportunity and growth”. He also has links to the Tony Blair Foundation
and represented its biggest single donor in 2013.

CALIFORNIA PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHING ‘ALLAH IS THE ONE TRUE GOD'; FORCING THEM TO PRAY TOWARDS MECCA
Via Joe
Parents were shocked when they found Islamic teachings in their children’s homework. Going much further than just teaching about Islam, they are teaching children tenets of Islam as though it is fact!
This school mandates that seventh-graders learn the tenets of Islam, study the important figures of the faith, wear a robe, adopt a Muslim name and stage their own jihad. Adding to this apparent hypocrisy, reports ANS, students must memorize many verses in the Koran, are taught to pray “in the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful” and are instructed face Mecca and chant, “Praise to Allah, Lord of Creation.”
“We could never teach Christianity like this,” one outraged parent said.

NC: Tom Talmon: Keeping Drag Racing’s History Alive & Well
There was a time when many drag racers competed not necessarily for
the highest dollar that they could earn or even to race their ways up
the ranks of either the NHRA or IHRA.
Competitors like Tom Cobbs and Fran Hernandez brought some of what most of us car aficionados consider true classic hot rods to the first open street legal drag race in Santa Barbara, California. Tom Talmon uses his love of old school automobiles by competing in what continues to be a very popular form of drag racing today.
Talmon, who currently spends most of his free time either working on or racing his 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air alongside his fellow Classic Gear Jammers, found his love for drag racing at the tender age of 17-years-old.

NC court: Is 800K tobacco growers too many to split $340M?
Via Cousin John
North Carolina's highest court will take up how many current and former tobacco growers in the Southeast have a stake in the $340 million reserve held by a nonprofit cooperative established during an era of taxpayer subsidies killed a decade ago.
The state Supreme Court on Monday takes up a money fight already 10 years old and likely to take years more before it's settled. At stake is money built up over decades by the Flue-Cured Tobacco Cooperative Stabilization Corp.
The Raleigh-based nonprofit was created in the 1940s to buy, process and warehouse the flue-cured variety of tobacco from growers when cigarette-makers wouldn't pay the government-backed minimum price. The cooperative has said the millions it's holding is a reasonable cushion, though it's lost 99 percent of its membership in the decade since U.S. taxpayers quit underwriting crop prices.

Woman Comes Home to Find Cops Surrounding Her House and They Don’t Have a Warrant......
Picture this: You pull into your driveway, hop out and find half a dozen police officers and social workers who, without having a warrant, bar you from your own home.
It’s what happened to one woman in Kansas last month.
The ordeal of Shona Banda, an activist who touts the medicinal benefits of marijuana, was first reported by investigative journalist Ben Swann’s website and later picked up by the Washington Post.
On March 24, Banda said, police showed up and blocked her from entering her home on the suspicion that she had drugs in the house.
Where did they get that suspicion?

Muslim Students Rush Stage, Force the Cancellation of the University’s ‘American Sniper’ Showing

The Student Body President Desmond Miller and EMU President Susan Martin get an ‘A’ in dhimmitude and cowardice. They caved in record time when approximately 35 students (all either Muslims or useful idiots) stormed the stage during a showing of American Sniper. Chris Kyle was a genuine American hero and the greatest military sniper in history. He was known for taking down our enemies… now our enemies, who have infiltrated our universities, are taking down America.

It's Past Time to Acknowledge Black Privilege
Everybody acknowledges the existence of socioeconomic privilege in which wealthy people have more opportunities than poor ones, but white privilege makes the racist assumption that skin color is a principal factor. As defined in Wikipedia (and there are numerous references on the page), white privilege is "a term for societal privileges that benefit white people in western countries beyond what is commonly experienced by non-white people under the same social, political, or economic circumstances." It is past time to confront the politically correct Left with the issue of Black privilege, as shown by the following public figures.
Al Sharpton
Al Sharpton demanded and obtained the dismissal of radio show personality Don Imus for Imus' reference to black women as "nappy headed hos". While Imus' remark was inexcusable under today's standards of behavior, no black women were killed or injured as a result of his words. Seven employees of Freddy's Fashion Mart in Harlem were not so lucky when Al Sharpton and his National Action Network came to town.

The Deconstruction of Marriage
Via David
The only question worth asking about gay marriage is whether anyone on the left would care about this crusade if it didn't come with the privilege of bulldozing another civilizational institution.
Gay marriage is not about men marrying men or women marrying women, it is about the
deconstruction of marriage between men and women. That is a thing that many men and women of one generation understand but have trouble conveying to another generation for whom marriage has already largely been deconstructed.
The statistics about the falling marriage rate tell the tale well enough. Marriage is a fading institution. Family is a flickering light in the evening of the West.

Fake Batman, Ben Affleck Demanded PBS Program Hide His Slave-Owning Ancestry.
- The Sony email hack continues to deliver! WikiLeaks highlights an email sent on July 22, 2014, to Sony USA chief Michael Lynton from PBS host Henry Louis Gates Jr.
- In the email, the "Finding Your Roots" host asked for advice regarding a request to censor footage:
"One of our guests has asked us to edit out something about one of his ancestors–the fact that he owned slaves. Now, four or five of our guests this season descend from slave owners, including Ken Burns. We've never had anyone ever try to censor or edit what we found. He's a megastar. What do we do?"
- The guest in question was none other than former actor, Ben Affleck, of Daredevil fame.
- The Sony USA chief suggested that Affleck’s family secret be left out of the show, calling the information sensitive.
- Gates admitted that withholding information is a violation of PBS rules, but still the showed aired in October 2014, with no mention of Affleck’s slave-owning ancestry.
