Everybody acknowledges the existence of socioeconomic privilege in which wealthy people have more opportunities than poor ones, but white privilege makes the racist assumption that skin color is a principal factor. As defined in Wikipedia (and there are numerous references on the page), white privilege is "a term for societal privileges that benefit white people in western countries beyond what is commonly experienced by non-white people under the same social, political, or economic circumstances." It is past time to confront the politically correct Left with the issue of Black privilege, as shown by the following public figures.
Al Sharpton
Al Sharpton demanded and obtained the dismissal of radio show personality Don Imus for Imus' reference to black women as "nappy headed hos". While Imus' remark was inexcusable under today's standards of behavior, no black women were killed or injured as a result of his words. Seven employees of Freddy's Fashion Mart in Harlem were not so lucky when Al Sharpton and his National Action Network came to town.

I dare you to read this:
ReplyDeleteMyopic. Complete lack of depth.
Instead of asking 'what?’ ask 'why?'
Black people celebrate their culture and identity because it was all but stripped from us. Celebration of 'white' culture is perpetuated day-in-day out in TV, cinema, history classes, politics, fashion etc. Maybe look a little less hard - it’s right in front of you. Affirmative action and poverty exists because of stuff like this: http://goo.gl/qZ8Bpd. The rags-to-riches story is more myth than fact. Social mobility isn't quite as fluid as you'd imagine. Chances are if you're wealthy, you had a few doors opened without even realising it.
Media attention for black people is selective. You are right in that events such as the Million Man March Anniversary was largely ignored by mainstream media. However, civil rights protests are mentioned in the same breath as 'riots' and have had PLENTY of coverage; and even in disaster situations black people are accused of 'looting' food while white people 'find' food. http://www.snopes.com/katrina/photos/looters.asp
Schrodinger's Negro: Blaming our shortcomings on race, whilst simultaneously using them to apparently get ahead on the sports field or in bed? Interesting concept, but which one is it?
Bless your fragile heart for living in fear of offending a minority. (PS I'm offended about being called a minority).
Over-representation? Namely in sports and music to generalise - But who owns major record labels and sports teams? Oh and when I do eventually get a bit part in TV/film, I cannot wait to play one of many diverse roles such as drug dealer, angry police commissioner, bouncer or token. We're allowed to be over-represented when we're entertaining or destroying each other; but god forbid we author books, write laws, manage the economy, perform surgery or teach.
Honestly do some reading, there has been mountains of study to show strong institutional racism and bias in the legal sentencing, law enforcement, healthcare, and other spheres.
The lynch pin is that racism can only work if society believes you are in a position of perceived power. It doesn’t work the other way.
First of all, I'm not the author and you seem to be quite the little Useful Fool.\. My black kinfolks from NC have absolutely nothing in common with you except color.
