Diversity Fail? All-Women Engineering Team Blamed for Collapse of Miami Pedestrian Bridge

Via comment by Reborn on Oh, the irony…

MCM builder

The all-women engineering team that designed the ill-fated pedestrian foot bridge at Miami’s Florida International University were highly touted for their advances in a field that is typically dominated by men.

But critics are pointing the finger of blame at the female engineers for design flaws that may have brought the bridge down.

Investigators are still on the scene of last week’s bridge collapse that killed 6 people and injured 9 on the FIU campus in Southwest Miami.

The Lost Tribes of the Irish in the South

Mr. President, and Ladies and Gentlemen: I am speaking but the plain truth when I tell you that I would rather be here tonight facing an assemblage of men and women of Irish blood and Irish breeding than in any other banquet hall on earth. For I am one who is Irish and didn’t know it; but now that I do know it, I am prouder of that fact than of any other thing on earth except that I am an American citizen.

I wonder if it ever occurred to you, what differences are to be found in many a country and in almost any country, between the temperaments and the spirits and the customs of those who live in the north of it and those who live in the south of it? To the north, to Prussia, the German Empire has always looked for its great scientists and its great mathematicians and its propounders and expounders of a certain cool and analytical philosophy; but it was to the south, to Bavaria and to Saxony, that Germany had to turn for its poets and its story-tellers.

David Hogg Gun Control PSA: ‘What If Our Politicians Weren’t the B*tch of the NRA?’

David Hogg in a video advertising the "March for Our Lives" gun control demonstration.

 Breitbart

Parkland student David Hogg’s latest gun control PSA opens with him looking directly at the camera and asking, “What if our politicians weren’t the bitch of the NRA?

In the video, Hogg seizes on Trump’s rope-a-dope of Democrats, whereby he made them believe he was open to every gun control imaginable, only to draw them out into the light and deny them every gun control they pushed. He then points to Democrat Conor Lamb’s victory over Republican Rick Saccone earlier in the week. Hogg suggests Lamb’s victory is proof Americans have had “enough.”
However, Hogg’s summary overlooks the fact that Lamb won on a pro-gun campaign. In fact, Investor’s Business Daily described Lamb as “a poster boy for the NRA.”

Lamb opposes “high capacity” magazine bans and reacted to the post-Parkland school shooting gun control push by saying, “New gun laws aren’t the answer to preventing more mass shootings like the one at a Florida high school.”

Yet Hogg cites Lamb as proof that people are turning against Trump and the NRA.
Ultimately, Hogg’s PSA contains yet another call for broader participation in the fast-approaching student march for gun control.

The march has lots of leftist backing and big financial donations from celebrities. For example, on February 20 Breitbart News reported that George Clooney, Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, and Jeffrey Katzenberg are donating $500,000 each to the march.

Fox News’ Laura Ingraham watched Hogg’s video and listened to him ask, “What if our politicians weren’t the bitch of the NRA?” She responded by saying, “Your 15 Minutes is Up: Perhaps if one stayed in school, one would know to use the plural.”

This transcript (which was bot-generated, so it’s not fit for human consumption unless you’re patient and forgiving), is interesting and informative.
So a little research battle kings mountain which you may be familiar with just west of here over in Cleveland county. Was one of the turning ports in the American revolution. And in researching that battle … One of the things I found Is that for people who were in the battle where they knew their ages. Over eighty of the participants were under the age of eighteen.
So don’t bother me with debates about why 18-year olds cannot be trusted with rifles unless you want to live under British rule.

DiGenova on Tucker on McCabe: "Everyone of these people should be put on a wanted poster"

From the outset of this scandal, I have considered Comey a dirty cop.

 Joseph E. diGenova

Joseph E. diGenova is a founding partner of diGenova & Toensing, LLP. He received his B.A. from the University of Cincinnati and his J.D. from Georgetown University. He has served as United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, Independent Counsel of the United States, Special Counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives, Chief Counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Rules and Administration, and Counsel to the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (the Church Committee).

From the outset of this scandal, I have considered Comey a dirty cop. His unfailing commitment to himself above all else is of a pattern. Throughout his career, Comey has continually portrayed himself as Thomas Becket, fighting against institutional corruption—even where none exists. Stories abound of his routine retort to anyone who disagreed with him (not an unusual happening when lawyers gather) during his tenure as deputy attorney general under President George W. Bush. “Your moral compass is askew,” he would say. This self-righteousness led agents to refer to him as “The Cardinal.” Comey is no Thomas Becket—he is Henry II.

Over the past year, facts have emerged that suggest there was a plot by high-ranking FBI and Department of Justice (DOJ) officials in the Obama administration, acting under color of law, to exonerate Hillary Clinton of federal crimes and then, if she lost the election, to frame Donald Trump and his campaign for colluding with Russia to steal the presidency. This conduct was not based on mere bias, as has been widely claimed, but rather on deeply felt animus toward Trump and his agenda.

Forging a Broad Axe

Via Iver

I visit the blacksmith shop of Paul Krzyszoski (Toronto Blacksmith) to watch him forge me a hewing axe (Viking broad axe style) for some upcoming timber frame building projects at my wilderness homestead (at the log cabin in the forest). The biggest project this year will be the workshop, which I plan to build using timber framing techniques combine with log cabin building and stone masonry.

I'm considering making at least one wall cordwood with sawdust and concrete and the remaining walls; squared timbers (which I'll do with the hewing axe). All of this will sit on a field stone foundation. I may build the woodshop on top of the stone cellar since the cellar will be mostly underground and can essentially function as the basement of the shop. I'm not sure about this yet as I need to excavate the ground by hand once the snow melts to see how deep the bedrock is and how difficult it is to dig in the rocky soil. Paul does awesome work, forging axes, adzes, log dogs and other timber framing tools.

Robert Mueller Has Been Botching Investigations Since The Anthrax Attacks

Robert Mueller Has Been Botching Investigations Since The Anthrax Attacks

Mystery surrounds Robert Mueller and his investigation into Russia and President Trump. Some think he is the ultimate professional, others that he is a Democrat lackey, still others maintain he is working on Trump’s side.

We can see how he works if we look at how Mueller ran his second-most important investigation as FBI Director. In September of 2001, an entity began mailing anthrax through the US Postal system, hitting such prominent targets as NBC and Senator Daschle’s office. The terrorist attacks killed five and left others hospitalized. The world panicked.

Michael Goodwin: A second special counsel should be investigating the FBI leaks

Anyone waiting for final proof that Washington needs a second special counsel got it Friday. The breathless anticipation over whether Attorney General Jeff Sessions would fire Andrew McCabe before McCabe’s FBI retirement began was a ridiculous exercise better suited for a television game show.

The pressure built because if he survived Friday, McCabe could retire with a lifetime pensionestimated to be worth $1.8 million. But if Sessions followed the recommendations of Justice Department lawyers and fired McCabe for wrongdoing before the witching hour, the former deputy director would get no pension and might face a criminal investigation.

Thousands Gather in London’s Speakers’ Corner to Hear Tommy Robinson Deliver Banned Right-Wing Activist’s Speech

  Speakers' Corner

Thousands of free speech enthusiasts, alongside a handful of hard-left and Islamist opposition, gathered at Speakers’ Corner in London’s Hyde Park this afternoon to hear a speech written by Generation Identity’s Martin Sellner, delivered by former EDL leader Tommy Robinson.

Sellner was banned from entry by the UK government earlier this month, for daring to lead a right-wing organisation which sheds light on Islamic extremism and mass migration on the continent of Europe.

Robinson — formerly of the Rebel Media — delivered the speech to thousands who gathered in the snow at the historic Speaker’s Corner, the home of free speech in London for hundreds of years.
Marx, Lenin, Orwell, and others have famously given speeches at Speaker’s Corner, which is what drove Sellner and Robinson to pick the spot to deliver the speech (below).
