President Blameless: World’s most powerful man takes responsibility like a 5-year-old

As expected, President Obama strode purposefully to the lectern at the University of Miami late last week and, solemnly surveying the crowd, took responsibility for skyrocketing gasoline prices that threaten our struggling recovery.

Of course, that is not quite the way it went down. Shortly before the Florida speech, the Hill newspaper reported that the president was planning to “move aggressively this week to deflect blame for rising gas prices.”

Mr. Obama deflecting blame? You don’t say.

This must be the most blame-deflecting White House in our nation’s history. This is truly the Eddie Haskell presidency, so named after the bratty “Leave It to Beaver” character who always made a mess when adults’ backs were turned and then blamed Wally and the Beav.

NAPOLITANO: Spies in New Jersey Surveillance without proper authority is illegal

On June 2, 2009, a janitor in an office building in New Brunswick, N.J., noticed what he thought was terrorist-related literature and sophisticated surveillance equipment in an office he had been assigned to clean. He told his boss, who called the local police, who notified the FBI. Later in the day, the FBI and the New Brunswick police broke into the office and discovered five men busily operating the equipment. Four of the men were officers from the New York City Police Department, and the fifth was a CIA agent.

The conundrum faced by all of these public servants soon became apparent. Who should arrest whom?

Should the FBI agents and the local cops arrest the NYPD and the CIA agent for violating the U.S. and New Jersey constitutions, both of which prohibit searches and seizures without search warrants, and for violating federal and New Jersey laws against wiretapping and surveillance? Should the NYPD and the CIA agent arrest the FBI agents and the local cops for breaking and entering and obstructing a governmental function without a search warrant? Did the FBI and the local cops even have a search warrant? Was the NYPD/CIA surveillance a lawful governmental function?

No one at the scene of this unique encounter was arrested. In return for not becoming a defendant, everyone agreed not to become a complainant. The FBI and the New Brunswick police went home, and the NYPD cops and their CIA mentor went back to their surveillance - even though everyone in that office had sworn the same oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution and the laws written pursuant to it.

Senators call for investigation into 'taxpayer-funded spin' by Obama administration

Two senators have launched a bipartisan investigation into "taxpayer-funded spin" by the Obama administration, following reports that the administration was devoting millions to promote the health care overhaul and other policies.

Sens. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, and Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., on Wednesday blasted out letters to 11 federal agencies asking for detailed information about public relations and advertising contracts over the past three years.

Portman said the probe is "not a partisan exercise." Rather, he said the senators want to bring "to the light of day" how much money the administration is spending to promote its own policies.

"It's a longstanding concern. ... The question is, what are they paying for public relations services?" Portman told Fox News on Thursday. "Sometimes it's legitimate, to help educate the public about something that the government is doing. ... but often it's spin. And that's the question -- is how much of it is spin, how much of it is inappropriate?"

So You Want To Talk About Genocide?

Old Virginia Blog
VERBATIM POST

Some of the folks over at Civil War Memory got into another SCV bash fest over a recent heritage event in Richmond. The eternally puckered-up got even more puckered up over a chant allegedly made by one of the Confederate reenactment units. That little ditty went like this:

What do we do?
Kill Yankees
How Many?
All of them

I must admit, not very original nor catchy, but you get the point. I suppose some of the puckered have never studied what some folks know as the Civil War and what others a bit more enlightened refer to as the War Between the States or, what the eminent historian Douglas Southall Freeman said the most accurate name would be: “The War for Southern Independence.” For if they had studied this event, they’d realize that killing yankees (Union soldiers) was the objective of Confederate soldiers (Hint - it's why they carried muskets). I realize that in a day when our military is often called on to perform humanitarian “meals on wheels” type assignments, that some moderns may have some difficulty grasping the concept of killing your enemy. But this actually can be verified. I ain't-a kiddin'. So when soldiers (or those portraying them) make war chants like that, it shouldn't come as a surprise.

But surprised the folks at CWM were for they suggested these REENACTORS were advocating genocide. Again, I ain't-a kiddin'.

Lord help these folks if they ever have the misfortune to listen to the song below. No doubt their puckering would cause them to bite button holes in their seat cushions:

That catchy little tune was performed with great gusto at Gettysburg's 145th. I suppose I could be mistaken, but I don't believe there was none of that thar genocide takin' place in them thar parts. BTW, the 2nd South Carolina String Band is a well-respected and talented band which often plays at SCV and other history related events. Southern Soldier is, as might be expected, always rather well-received. You can read some reviews of the band here.

So, as difficult as it is for the educated among us, Confederate soldiers did in fact desire to "kill yankees." And if the WBTS scholars were as educated about that conflict as they claim to be, they'd realize that the chant at the Richmond event simply echoed one of Stonewall Jackson's admonishments to his fellow Confederates in regards to yankees: –
“Kill them. Kill them all” As I often point out, agendas tend to blind us from the truth about history.

Now, let's discuss the term "genocide." Merriam-Webster defines the word as:

"the deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group"

That, of course, does not include warfare. You would think the educated among us would at least know what the term genocide meant before they threw such an inflammatory accusation around so recklessly. Even Southern slavery, with all its inherent evils, did not rise to the level of genocide. But if you'd like an example of genocide in American history, you might consider the actions of former Union (yankee) Generals Sherman, Grant, and Custer against the American Indian. Though even that is arguable, it comes much closer to the definition of genocide than it does a bunch of good ole' boys reenacting Confederate soldiers.

And, yes, I'd love to go to church with these folks. It's where all sinners should go.

On a bit more cordial note, I'll be posting an interesting link and some information Kevin shared with me recently.

Lawmaker wants answers after cost estimate for health insurance aid rises by $111B

Cost estimates for a key part of President Obama's health care overhaul law have ballooned by $111 billion from last year's budget, and a senior Republican lawmaker on Friday demanded an explanation.

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp, R-Mich., wants to know by Monday why the estimated ten-year cost of helping millions of middle-class Americans buy health insurance has jumped by about 30 percent.

Administration officials say the explanation lies in budget technicalities and that there are no significant changes in the program.

The revised numbers, buried deep in the president's budget, stumped lawmakers and some administration officials for most of the week. At a congressional hearing Tuesday, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, who is in charge of carrying out the health care law, indicated she was unaware of the changes.

French Officers Captured in Homs

Up to 19 French Officers have been captured in Homs by the Syrian Government.

There are also reports of France and the UK supplying anti-aircraft missiles - Just like the US did in Afghanistan when it armed Al-Qaeda.

The funniest part is the officers were captured by the rebels first and then handed over to the Government forces.

No wonder the French ambassador has scuttled quick-smart back to Syria.

"A society that puts equality before freedom will get neither. A society that puts freedom before equality will get a high degree of both."

Rick Santorum's speech at the Detroit Economic Club stirred a bit of controversy when he said: "I'm not about equality of result when it comes to income inequality. There is income inequality in America. There always has been, and hopefully -- and I do say that -- there always will be." That kind of statement, though having merit, should not be made to people who have little or no understanding. Let's look at inequality.

Kay S. Hymowitz's article "Why the Gender Gap Won't Go Away. Ever," in City Journal (Summer 2011), shows that female doctors earn only 64 percent of the income that male doctors earn. What should be done about that? It turns out that only 16 percent of surgeons are women but 50 percent of pediatricians are women. Even though surgeons have many more years of education and training than do pediatricians, should Congress equalize their salaries or make pediatricians become surgeons?

Wage inequality is everywhere. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Asian men and women earn more than white men and women. Female cafeteria attendants earn more than their male counterparts. Females who are younger than 30 and have never been married earn salaries 8 percent higher than males of the same description. Among women who graduated from college during 1992-93, by 2003 more than one-fifth were no longer in the workforce, and another 17 percent were working part time. That's to be compared with only 2 percent of men in either category. Hymowitz cites several studies showing significant career choice and lifestyle differences between men and women that result in income inequality.

Supreme Court Okays Teachers’ Right to Ridicule Student’s Christianity in Class

Godfather Politics
Verbatim Post

Back in 2009, Chad Farnan was a sophomore at Capistrano Valley High School in Mission Viejo, California. One of his classes was Advanced Placement European History which was taught by James Corbett.

Nearly every day in class, Corbett, who had taught at the school for the past 20 years, would ridicule and harass Farnan about his Christian and creationist views. One of the statements made by Corbett in the classroom in front of Farnan’s fellow students was,

“When you put on your Jesus glasses, you can’t see the truth.”

After repeated verbal abuse in front of his classmates, Farnan filed suit against the in December 2007. He accused the of promoting hostility to Christians in the classroom and in promoting ‘irreligion over religion’ which is a violation of the First Amendment.

In the original trial, the judge found Corbett guilty of violating the First Amendment by denigrating Farnan’s Christian faith while in the classroom. US District Court Judge James Selna said,

“Corbett states an unequivocal belief that Creationism is ‘superstitious nonsense.’ The court cannot discern a legitimate secular purpose in this statement, even when considered in context.”

The case was appealed to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which is the most liberal court in the entire US. In keeping with their liberal history, the Ninth Circuit Court overturned the District Court’s ruling declaring that the teacher had a qualified immunity since there was no precedent of any case where a teacher had been held liable for anti-religious statements and those statements been ruled to be unconstitutional.

The case then appealed to the US in hopes that they would make a precedent setting ruling to defend the religious rights of students in public schools. This past week, the US announced that they will not hear the case, thus making the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals’ ruling will stand as the final decision.

A precedent in this case has been set, but not the one hoped for. The precedent that was set allows teachers to verbally abuse, ridicule and harass the religious beliefs of any student and they can do so in the classroom in front of other students.

Yet on the opposite side of the issue, courts have upheld restrictions placed on students expressing their religious views in the classroom. They are not allowed to defend their beliefs but are now forced to sit and take the abuse from the faculty.

Freedom of speech and religion now only applies to anti-Christians and Muslims, but not for Christians.

Lincoln, America’s Caesar

The War Between the States is said to have begun when the Star of the West, carrying troops and under President Buchanan’s orders, left its moorings at New York City in January 1861, bound for Fort Sumter. The intent was to reinforce the fort’s garrison against the State it built to protect, and whose guns were now aimed at Charleston. It is noteworthy that in none of Lincoln’s proclamations is slavery mentioned as a cause of his unconstitutional actions.

Bernhard Thuersam, Chairman
North Carolina War Between the States Sesquicentennial Commission
www.ncwbts150.com
"The Official Website of the North Carolina WBTS Sesquicentennial"

Lincoln, America’s Caesar:

“The interval of eighty days between the beginning of the war and the assembling of Congress gave the President a virtual monopoly of emergency powers. On April 15, in language reminiscent of Washington’s at the time of the Whiskey Insurrection, Lincoln declared an “insurrection” to exist, announced that Federal laws were being opposed in seven States “by combinations too powerful to be suppressed by the ordinary course of judicial proceedings, or by the powers vested in the marshals by the law,” and summoned the militia of the States to the number of 75,000 to “suppress said combinations.”

By this proceeding the Civil War began without a declaration. This was natural enough, since the South considered secession a peaceable act, while according to the Union point of view such secession was null and required a defensive attitude on the part of the government with a readiness to strike in retaliation for any act of resistance to the national authority.

Lincoln took many other war measures. He issued two proclamations of blockade: the first one dated April 19, 1861, applied to South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas; the second, April 27, applied to Virginia and North Carolina [the latter did not secede until May 20]. It was these proclamations of blockade which were taken by the Supreme Court as marking the beginning of the war.

[Lincoln] decreed the expansion of the regular army on his own authority. Whereas the call of April 15 was a summoning of the militia….a further call of May 3 was for recruits to the regular army beyond the total then authorized by law. Increasing the regular army is a congressional function.

“I never met anyone,” said [Ohio Senator] John Sherman, “who claimed that the President could, by a proclamation, increase the regular army.” The stir of patriotic activity, however, left no time for deliberation as to legal authority; and Lincoln did not wait for till the constitutionality of his action could be settled. “These measures,” he said in his message of July 4, 1861, “whether strictly legal or not, were ventured upon, under what appeared to be a popular demand and public necessity; trusting….that Congress would readily ratify them.”

It was in this spirit that he gave large powers unofficially to citizens of his own choosing who were to make arrangements for transporting troops and supplies and otherwise promote the public defense.

Doubting the loyalty of certain persons in government departments, he directed the Secretary of the Treasury to advance $2,000,000 of public money without security….to pay the expenses of “military and naval measures necessary for the defense and support of the government.” Yet the Constitution provides that “No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law.”

Lincoln himself admitted the irregularity of this proceeding, saying he was not aware that a dollar of public funds “thus confided without authority of law to unofficial persons” was lost or wasted. In Lincoln’s mind the honesty of his act and the emergency which occasioned it excused its illegality. He issued his first suspension of the habeas corpus privilege at this time…In a word, the whole machinery of war was set in motion by the President, with all this meant in terms of Federal effort, departmental activity, State action and private enterprise.”

At least one person of interest identified in alleged birth cerificate forgery

Members of the Cold Case Posse in Maricopa County, Ariz., whose report to Sheriff Joe Arpaio yesterday confirmed there is probable cause to believe Barack Obama’s much-ballyhooed birth certificate document is a forgery, have begun briefing members of the county law enforcement team who may be involved in hunting for those responsible.

At a news conference yesterday, Arpaio and the chief investigator for the specially appointed Cold Case Posse, Mike Zullo, confirmed that they had found evidence of forgery in the creation of the birth certificate image and fraud in the presentation of that piece of work as a real

They also said they found Obama’s Selective Service registration likely forged, and they said it appeared as though officials in Hawaii were covering up information about Obama. They also said it was not outside the realm of possibility that Obama might have been born overseas.

TSA to start fondling drivers now, too?

A U.S. congresswoman was alarmed to learn that blue-shirted Transportation Security Administration agents had left the airports in her native state to begin inspecting cars and trucks, as well.

“Many of my constituents discovered this firsthand this past fall, as those familiar blue uniforms and badges appeared on Tennessee highways,” writes Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., in a Forbes editorial titled “The TSA Is Coming to a Highway Near You.”

“In October,” she continued, “Tennessee became the first state to conduct a statewide Department of Homeland Security Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) team operation [that] randomly inspected Tennessee truck drivers and cars.”

TSA representative Nico Melendez confirmed to the Los Angeles Times that these VIPR teams have also branched out to conduct security checks at subways, trains and cruise ship ports.

Tactical Combat Casualty Care, Part One...Because the Enemy Gets A Vote Too....

To often, members of the American resistance focus on collecting guns and cool-guy CDI gear. Some even go so far as to practice shooting drills at the range and may even slap a blow-out kit/IFAK on their first-line gear. Too few however, spend any time really learning and practicing the vital details of survival on a two-way range where the enemy gets a vote. From practicing small-unit tactics and close-quarters battle, to actually getting out and doing the mind-numbing vital training of ruck marches and PT, many talk a great game, but too many stop at the talking instead of performing the training they talk about performing.

One area that is often discussed in training circles, but seldom, in my experience, actually practiced and trained, is wound management and tactical first-aid. Beyond basic first-aid and CPR, administered by the American Red Cross and American Heart Association, in which I have been continuously certified since my sophomore year of high school, my initial training in trauma medicine took place during the Ranger Indoctrination Program (RIP) in 1994. The version of the then-current Combat Lifesaver (CLS) course taught at the Ranger Regiment during that time period was more advanced than the CLS taught through the rest of the Army, and every Ranger received a solid introduction to the fundamentals of the information, it still left a great deal to be desired. Thus, the creation and evolution of the Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC, or TC3).
