Sessions' opponents are badly misinformed

Via Billy

sessions_1.JPG

In the 1970s and 1980s, I represented the Board of School Commissioners of Mobile County, and, in that capacity, I was on the other side of Jeff Sessions when he was the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama and the U.S. Government was a party in Brown v. Moore, the case that led to the creation of single-member election districts for members of the board of the county school system.

Senator Sessions was part of the government team that argued that multi-member election districts disadvantaged African Americans. Ultimately, Judge Virgil Pittman ruled in favor of the federal government and the plaintiffs in Brown.

Some of the Senator's opponents have alleged that Sessions, when he was U.S. Attorney, failed to protect the rights and privileges for board member Dr. R. W. Gilliard, one of the two African Americans elected from single-member districts in 1978. Specifically, they allege that Dan Alexander, then President of the school board, had prevented Dr. Gilliard from voting on certain matters, and Sessions did not stand with Dr. Gilliard in contesting the actions of Alexander.

Grabbing Pennies Off the Southern Corpse

Sherman’s army occupied Savannah in late December, 1864 after Gen. William J. Hardee had evacuated his troops into South Carolina. Offshore and awaiting the occupation of the city by Sherman were US Treasury agents and others anxious to seize bales of cotton and other valuables for government or personal enrichment. In addition, presidential-aspirant Edwin M. Stanton presciently coveted the Negro vote in the South as Grant eventually did, and pretended concern for their future.
Bernhard Thuersam, www.Circa1865.com   The Great American Political Divide

Grabbing Pennies Off the Southern Corpse

“In making the rounds of the city [in late December, 1864, Sherman] was irritated to find that an agent of the [US] Treasury had arrived in the city ahead of him and seized a large stock of cotton there, estimated at 25,000 bales, later found to amount to 31,000 bales.

His chief annoyance . . . was from outside meddlers, agents from the North, the forerunners of the pestiferous army of carpetbaggers that swarmed into the South in the next few months and years. Some were sincere and fervent, but narrow-minded, zealots determined to impose salvation as decreed by the abolitionists upon the Negroes; many were greedy and unconscionable rascals bent upon seizing political power and grabbing the pennies off the Southern corpse.

[Sherman] . . . divined the developing purpose of the Radicals in Congress. It became apparent in the attitude suggested in hints let out here and there by the chief of the northern agents who descended upon Savannah while Sherman was there.

This was none other than Secretary of War Stanton, who hurried down by boat at the first opportunity to look the ground over. Stanton was fussy about many things, peeking here and there, prying, asking questions, seemingly deeply concerned about the Negro and his future, but in reality carefully measuring the political potentialities in this Southern tragedy, thus foretelling his action, a few months later, in joining the Radicals openly in their desperate and vicious Reconstruction program.

Sherman was most resentful when Stanton revealed his intention to quiz the Negroes about [Sherman’s] own policies . . . [and] witnesses upheld Sherman also in the firm policy he had adopted against recruiting Negroes for his army by State agents who rushed into Savannah and were trying to enlist Negroes right and left.

[Sherman] did not want to enlist any Negro soldiers, not only because of the bother of handling such unseasoned troops, but also because he had smarted under the taunts of Confederate General [John B.] Hood at Atlanta to the effect that the North had to use the South’s own Negro slaves to defeat the Confederacy.”

Automation: Nearly Half Of Jobs In Idaho Will Be Automated In The Next 20 Years

Via John

In Idaho, a researcher at the state Department of Labor looked into automation and how it may play out locally. His overall estimate is based on that of the Oxford analysts, that nearly half of state jobs are susceptible within a couple decades.

But there’s no mention that workers are shoppers and are the engine of America’s consumer-driven economy. Nobody is discussing how the financial system is supposed to function without a healthy population of shoppers.

Or that the automation revolution makes immigration obsolete.

The robots haven’t taken over — yet.

Kiss my ruddy, red, rectum Carpetbagger. I'm appalled that you 'teach" at RMC where I went.  Just a few minutes from I-95, so  take advantage of it northbound.

I have a hope for the New Year.

I turn to this hope during every battle over moving or removing a Confederate monument in Virginia, or renaming one of the many streets named after Jefferson Davis. I feel this hope every time I drive past another Virginia Flaggers demonstration, or when I see the Confederate battle flag hung on a truck or in a dorm window.

My hope leads me to this teensy request: Can we drop the Confederate nostalgia? Finally?

There’s no other way to put this: The American South has been on the wrong end of history for 200 years. It’s time to get over it.

NC: Standing Up to Political Bullying Is What Voters Want

Via Mike

After a month of counting absentee and provisional ballots, exploring voter fraud, and recounting 90,000+ ballots in one of the progressive strongholds of the state that were turned in at 11:30 p.m. on election night, North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory conceded that he lost his re-election on Dec. 5.

McCrory lost his re-election by only 10,277 out of 4.7 million votes, or two-tenths of 1 percent.

However, repeal of the H.B. 2 “bathroom bill” is not the lesson to be learned from the election.

The governor’s race in North Carolina had barely concluded before the Human Rights Campaign and other LGBT groups began taking credit for having unseated the one-term governor over his refusal to back down to their bullying.

The Human Rights Campaign engaged in an eight-month smear campaign against the state of North Carolina—with McCrory as the primary target—over the passage of North Carolina’s privacy law, which blocked a Charlotte city ordinance that would have allowed men into women’s bathrooms, showers, locker rooms, and other intimate facilities.

Treasons Great and Small

 http://static.westernjournalism.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/cicero-on-treason.jpg

Treason is defined as giving aid and comfort to the enemy. Trump has been accused of walking a line close to treason for complimenting Vladamir Putin for refusing to take the bait thrown out when  Barack Obama retaliated for fictional Russian hacking of the election. That whole premise is flawed and rife with "fake news." But, there is much more evidence in Turkey and Syria that the Obama Administration was funding and aiding ISIS fighters in Syria. The difference is this: the United States is not at war with Russia, but it is at war with ISIS. Obama's actions are a direct act of treason, Trump's, in this context, are the act of a patriot, by refusing to allow a lame duck president from destroying the fragile relationship between two nuclear powers.

Welfare recipients might be able to buy only necessities with their government benefits in the near future if President-elect Donald Trump’s administration approves state requests to limit what items people can purchase with food stamps.

According to The Daily Signal, officials in both Maine and Arkansas planned to ask the Trump administration to prohibit the use of food stamps to buy unnecessary items such as candy.

President Barack Obama’s administration previously denied any requests of the sort, and welfare recipients have been able to purchase whatever junk food they desire instead of necessities.

Leaked Audio Of John Kerry Just Exposed The Truth About Obama and ISIS

Via Mike

A leaked audio recording of John Kerry has exposed Barack Obama's plan to allow ISIS to grow in order to force the hand of Syrian President Bashir Assad.

Truthfeed.com reported: This evidence within this single story would/should forever remove any credibility toward the U.S. foreign policy under President Obama. It also destroys the credibility of a large number of well known republicans. What the recording reveals is substantive:

♦ First, only regime change, the removal of Bashir Assad, in Syria was the goal for President Obama. This is admitted and outlined by Secretary John Kerry.

♦ Secondly, in order to accomplish this primary goal, the White House was willing to watch the rise of ISIS by placing their bet that ISIS’s success would force Syrian President Bashir Assad to acquiesce toward Obama’s terms and step down.

♦ Thirdly, in order to facilitate the two objectives, Obama and Kerry intentionally gave arms to ISIS and even, arguably, attacked a Syrian government military convoy to stop a strategic attack upon the Islamic extremists killing 80 Syrian soldiers.

Poles Smash Kebab Shop After Muslim Employees Stabbed Man to Death Over Firecracker

Via comment by Quartermain on Top liberal student interviews of 2016

"I would be happy if there weren't a single Arab in our country."

A group of Muslims reportedly stabbed a 21-year-old polish man to death in the street on New Year’s Eve after he threw a firecracker in the general vicinity of their Kebab shop.

Poles responded the next day by smashing their shop up and throwing bricks through their windows.

Video of the incident shows a large crowd cheering their retaliatory strike.

“I would be happy if there weren’t a single Arab in our country,” one protester who did not take part in the vandalism said.

“I am against foreigners ruling in our country, in our beautiful town, and that they would do such things! We don’t need them here! They have their own countries, they should rule in their home countries,” he said.

Klan Hysteria

In this past election, like many before it, the left used the specter of The Klan and Old Jim Crow in order to motivate black people to vote for Republicans. Democrats who had previously accused the Republican party of trading in "fear politics" regularly uses historical fear of the KKK to motivate black people to vote for them. Of course in this election not only did we get KKK but we got Hitler re-incarnate. I said earlier that the fact of the matter is that if one is black, one has very little to fear from KKK members. As a matter of fact a black person has a far higher probability of being killed by another black person (usually male) than by a KKK member if for no other reason than the minuscule number of actual Klan members. As if to prove this point, A&E has been caught paying white folks to be Klan members and say "nigger" on tv.

Obama could still force Merrick Garland onto court during ‘intersession recess’

Via Billy

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C1AT3-sXEAAmRT1.jpg

President Obama will have one last chance to force Judge Merrick Garland onto the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday — but it’s a legal gamble and one that has so many pitfalls that even those who say he could get away with it believe it isn’t worth the fight.

Mr. Obama’s moment will come just before noon, in the five minutes that the Senate gavels the 114th Congress out of session and the time the 115th Congress begins.

In those few moments the Senate will go into what’s known as an “intersession recess,” creating one golden moment when the president could test his recess-appointment powers by sending Judge Garland to the high court.
