People who own
all-electric cars where coal generates the power may think they are
helping the environment. But a new study finds their vehicles actually
make the air dirtier, worsening global warming.
Ethanol isn't so green, either.
"It's
kind of hard to beat gasoline" for public and environmental health,
said study co-author Julian Marshall, an engineering professor at the
University of Minnesota. "A lot of the technologies that we think of as
being clean ... are not better than gasoline."
More @ AP
They are finally fingering this out? Hope it puts a stop to the corn porn industry and we can stop using moonshine in our vehicles... If you look at the resale values of hybrids and electric cars, there ain't none... more waste and pollution. Stick that greenies!
ReplyDeletethe resale values of hybrids and electric cars, there ain't none...
DeleteCan't imagine why........:)
If greenies are depending on coal to charge their clowncars for much longer they better get used to walkin.
ReplyDeleteWhat little coal being extracted is being shipped to China.
pa and wva coal are dying. What few that are operating have to wait 3 yrs
for permit approval when expanding the hole (deep mining). And put up a 10m $ bond (mine reclamation act).
Which wont be necessary for much longet because the epa has another dozen or so coal based electric plants to shut down.
china will be burning our coal-enriching the cronies- w/o any scrubbers or filters.
Must be an alternate world.
DeleteEthanol.
ReplyDeletePlant.
spray. Fertilize. Harvest. Dry and process corn at ethanol plants that are now bankrupt.=
net energy loss.
Unintended (or intended?) Consequences of converting millions of acres to ethanol production leads to fertilizer runoff. Algae blooms and water contamination. But the epa is there to make them pay for cleanup which never ends. (Chesapeake bay is going on 30 yrs now) they are pushing for control over phospherus application. Kiss our abundant food supply goodbye.
Anything under Obama is surely intended.
DeleteBlaming coal yet again, this time for the failure of their so-called "green" cars.
ReplyDeleteHere's the thing: is does not matter is it is a coal fired plant, hydroelectric, or nuclear -every one of these systems depends on hundreds of substations to deliver the power to homes, businesses etc. And every one of those substations uses either a Detroit or Caterpillar diesel generator to boost up the power lost over transmission lines etc. Add to that the power losses in converting mechanical energy into electrical energy, transmitting it, storing it as electrochemical, and finally turning it back into mechanical power to drive the powertrain in the car itself. Inefficiency at every step.
Oh, but it is "green" so fruitbats can feel good about running five or six diesel motors to power their roller-skate of a car for 35 miles.

DeleteActually, pathetic.
"A lot of the technologies that we think of as being clean ... are not better than gasoline."
ReplyDelete... and a lot of people that think they are smart, are actually pretty darn dumb.
May of them drive so-called "green" or so-called "smart" so-called "cars".

Evidently they don't realize how ridiculous they look/are. :)
