    On another blog I read the commentator stated that ICE should instruct US Marshals to arrest the police chiefs and the sheriffs and the prosecuting attorney of any county that releases an illegal alien from jail with out notifying ICE or determining their legal status. I bet that would get them to honor a detainer or determine the legal status. Make it as public as hell too. Perp walk with wrist and ankle shackles those cretins out to a paddy wagon with windows...

      I believe county sheriff's authority trumps ICE.

      Yes, and other Fed agents like FBI and BATF. They need to check in wiith sheriff to operate in his county. --Ron W

    Constitutionally, the county Sheriff holds more powers than a state governor. In this example, while the bill failed, there is nothing to prevent the Sheriff from fully complying with ICE. I believe, but am not certain, no alphabet agency, even in the executive branch, has authority over a county Sheriff. That one I'll have to research more.

    Cooper is up for re-election in 2020. In the last election he received a lot of out-of-state money because of North Carolina's transgender bathroom law. Hopefully that won't happen in 2020 and we can vote him out of office.
