NY woman beheaded in what horrified witnesses first thought a Halloween prank

A man beheaded a woman in her Long Island, N.Y., apartment late Tuesday and then dragged the body and head out onto a street, where onlookers initially thought they were witnessing a macabre Halloween prank, police and witnesses said.

The suspected killer, who was not identified, jumped in front of a commuter train near the Farmingdale, N.Y., home moments later, killing himself, Nassau County police said. Police said the woman appeared to be in her 60s, while the killer appeared to be around 30. It was not clear what prompted the murder suicide or what the relationship between the two was.

Witnesses told the New York Post they saw the man drag the woman's body out of the building and onto the street, where he kicked her head some 20 feet before going to a nearby railroad track and jumping in front of an eastbound Long Island Railroad train approximately 25 minutes later. Police said his body was found about a mile from the apartment.

NC: Meck County monitors people after traveling from Ebola hot zone

Mecklenburg County health officials said they are asking multiple people who traveled to Charlotte from Ebola hot zones to avoid public transportation.

Health officials announced Tuesday they are continuing to monitor multiple people who have been in three African countries stricken by Ebola, but assured the public none of the people had any exposure to those infected with Ebola.

It’s sometimes suggested that libertarian ideas are hazardous because they lack precedent.

Functioning decentralized societies, it’s implied, are absent from humanity’s past.

Yet throughout recorded history, nations have survived and thrived without the overarching authority that President Obama assures us is necessary for prosperity.

My observation is nothing new. Each of the systems I’ll name here has been the subject of at least one lengthy examination by a libertarian scholar.  I have yet to come across, however, a reference sheet that briefly reviews a few of them. I’ll attempt to provide one below.

Italian WWII Pilot Found Buried -- Still On His Seat

The remains of an Italian WWII pilot who died in a dogfight with U.S. pilots 70 years ago have finally been unearthed -- still sitting on the parachute in the cockpit.

Found 13 feet underground with the wreckage of his crashed plane, a Macchi C.205 Veltro, the pilot was identified as being Lieutenant Guerrino Bortolani. His plane literately disappeared in the Padua countryside in northern Italy, planting itself deep in the bank of a ditch as it crashed on March 11, 1944.

BLUE ON BLUE: New Mexico Sheriff’s Deputy Gunned Down By Another After Alcohol-Fueled Argument

  

There is horrible news out of New Mexico today.  Two sheriff’s deputies who stopped to spend the night at a Las Cruces hotel after transporting a prisoner to Arizona got into a dispute that resulted in the unnamed 27-year-old deputy apparently murdering Deputy Jeremy Martin:

Las Cruces Police investigators have learned that the deputies were passing through Las Cruces after transporting a prisoner to a detention facility in Arizona. As the two were on their return trip to Santa Fe they rented a room just before 4 p.m. Monday at Hotel Encanto, 705 S. Telshor Blvd. Sometime Monday evening the two deputies went to Dublin’s Street Pub, at 1745 E. University Ave., where it’s believed they consumed alcohol and got into an argument.

Man Calls a Suicide Prevention Hotline, SWAT Team Shows Up and Kills Him

 

A Roy, Utah man, Jose Calzada, 35, placed a call to a suicide prevention hotline at 4:00 a.m. Tuesday morning and threatened to kill himself, seven hour later he was shot and killed by police, according to law enforcement.

According to ABC 4, neighbors described Calzada as a quiet, friendly man, who was divorced and now lived in the home with his girlfriend and her children.

The first tragic mistake in this case was made when the Weber County Consolidated Dispatch Center sent officers to the residence rather than some type of crisis response team trained to deal with suicidal individuals.

From previous cases, such as that of Jason Turk, who was shot twice in the face after a suicide call to 9-1-1 by his wife, or that of Christian Alberto Sierra, who was suffering from depression and had attempted suicide when police showed up and shot him four times, killing him, most know all too well what happens when you send officers to “assist” people threatening suicide.

Subsequently, a SWAT team came to the residence and “negotiated” with Calzada for more than seven hours before taking his life.

“At some point those negotiations failed and unfortunately the SWAT team was involved in a shooting, and the subject is now deceased,” said Roy PD spokesman Matt Gwynn.
