DHS suspends increase in guest-worker visas after Fox News segment

Tucker Carlson spotlighted move amid massive spike in unemployment

Hours after Fox News host Tucker Carlson criticized the Department of Homeland Security for increasing H-2B guest worker visas amid an economic crisis, DHS has reversed course.
On Wednesday night, Carlson reported DHS was granting a total of 35,000 "bonus visas" in addition to the 66,000 H-2B visas the federal government must allow each year by law.

Calling the move a "threat to our country," he pointed out the forecasts of as high as 32% unemployment amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Poll: Large number of small businesses on brink of permanent closure as coronavirus shutdown takes toll

Via Billy

A new survey shows that the restrictions imposed to slow the spread of the coronavirus are causing major damage to the ranks of the nation's small businesses.

In many jurisdictions across the nation, businesses deemed "nonessential" by state or local authorities have been forced to shut down.
The MetLife & U.S. Chamber of Commerce Small Business Index issued a special report Friday on a survey that found 24 percent of small businesses said they were temporarily shut down and another 40 percent expect to close over the next two weeks.

More alarming, however, is the fact that 43 percent of the businesses responding to the survey "believe they have less than six months until a permanent shutdown is unavoidable," the report said.

This was a recent comment that shows exactly the dangers and ignorance that is rampant today. In response to my post on Eating the Elephant, Mr. Dickson wrote this:  ------ Quarantine...enforced or voluntary....is as old as the practice of medicine. This.....OMG....the world is going to end defeatism, has got to stop. Our government is guilty........of trying to save lives and it will only retain whatever power we allow them. -----Yes, the government is good and wholly on our side in this pandemic. I recently described the government as this: "One cannot simply believe that there is no evil in government, it is better to operate as if the government is evil and let the good expose itself."

FDA Gives Emergency Approval To Blood Test To Find Who Has Antibodies, Is Immune To SARS-CoV-2

Serologic testing, which only requires a drop of blood to conduct, focuses instead on finding virus antibodies, the presence of which indicates that an individual has had COVID-19 and is now likely immune.

A blood test to determine who has been infected by SARS-CoV-2 is one thing, but a test to find out who has already had it is a whole different kettle of fish.

Because the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 can infect some people with absolutely no symptoms, an unknown number of people who are likely holed up in their homes have already been infected and are therefore immune. As the virus continues to sweep across the country, a test to find out who is immune will be key to re-opening the economy.

University Where Polio Vaccine Was Created Says They Have Potential Vaccine For Coronavirus

Cathedral of Learning in the morning, University of Pittsburgh.

On Thursday, the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where Dr. Jonas Salk discovered a vaccine for polio, announced they have created a potential vaccine for the coronavirus.

Researchers gave the vaccine to mice through a patch in the skin, and say not only that the vaccine proved effective, but that producing similar patches with a vaccine for humans is scalable and can be produced in large quantities, according to KDKA radio, which notes, “It is the first study to be published after it was critiqued by other scientists ‘at outside institutions that describes a candidate vaccine for COVID-19.’”

Trump Is Right: Economic Shutdown Will Result in Deadly Health Crisis, Scientists Say

On March 24, President Trump expressed an intense desire to begin the process of loosening restrictions in some portions of our country so that the American economy can slowly begin to emerge from the government-imposed shutdown of most commerce.

"We cannot let the cure be worse than the problem itself," he tweeted. "At the end of the 15 day period, we will make a decision as to which way we want to go!"

Later that day, in his daily briefing, he expanded on the point.

"The Demdemic"; Is a national collapse worth it?

ENLARGES

........I put together his flu figures with today's (4/3) USA coronavirus figures in a way that visually illustrates his point quite adequately.

One difference is that the flu numbers are inclusive of October to the present, whereas  the coronavirus is only from February to the present.  It has been about 180 days since flu season began,  In this period we have averaged 227 flu deaths DAILY.

I suspect this is more of a media-fueled Demdemic rather than a pandemic, at least here in the USA.  All reasonable perspective has been eroded.

The rationale that provides sheltering in place for coronavirus should also be in place for the seasonal flu......after all, does it really matter which virus causes the deaths?

Based on what we're doing now, how can we justify keeping this nation open for business only from May through September each year?  Really, this has gotten nuts.

I'm an older person, I'm the one of the ones at risk, but 5 out of 6 Americans are under the age of 60.  They should be at work;  while people my age, with the real morbidity risks, should be the ones sheltering - not everybody.

The stakes are high.  If we allow this situation to irretrievably collapse this economy, the death toll will not be in the thousands, it will be in the hundreds of millions and you rgrandchildren will be using Chinese as their primary language.

Don't think so?  Think again.

Is a successful Demdemic worth that?

Lincoln and Fort Sumter

Charles W Ramsdell - Dean of Southern Historians - "Lincoln and Fort Sumter" "The Natural Limits of Slavery Expansion" - Compiled by Gene Kizer Jr

Lincoln's "First Shot" Strategy at Fort Sumter

Deception Leads To War On April 12th

Lincoln and Fort Sumter  is the most famous treatise ever written on how Abraham Lincoln manipulated events in Charleston Harbor to start a war April 12, 1861 that killed over 750,000 people and maimed a million more. Lincoln's war destroyed the republic of the Founding Fathers and established the supremacy of the Federal Government and Northern majority over the states, which was his goal all along. Charles W. Ramsdell (1877-1942), known as the Dean of Southern Historians, is brilliant and riveting. His In Memoriam at the University of Texas states: "In all that pertained to the history of the Southern Confederacy, his scholarship was decisive."

The Legal Arguments for Closing Gun Shops During COVID-19 Pandemic

Coronavirus and the States: Gun Shops vs. Governors; Chloroquine ...

Any lawyers out there? Constitutional scholars?  Law school professors?

Here’s a question for you: Does it violate the Constitution to shutter gun stores and firearms manufacturers during a global pandemic?

Attorneys for Everytown Law, the litigation arm of Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund, argued in a memorandum this week that closing down FFLs during the COVID-19 crisis does not violate one’s right to keep and bear arms.

Over 160 New Jersey Police Officers Test Positive for COVID-19

SAF recently sued New Jersey over Gov. Phil Murphy’s decision to shutter gun stores during the crisis.  On Monday, Murphy announced that gun stores would reopen.
“We’re delighted that Gov. Murphy has reversed course on this matter, even if it took a lawsuit to get him to do it,” said Gottlieb. “Our lawsuit cut right to the heart of what the Second Amendment is all about, which is personal protection during emergency situations like the ongoing coronavirus pandemic that has gripped the nation.”

New Jersey officials announced over the weekend that as many as 163 police officers have tested positive for COVID-19.

Acting State Police Superintendent Col. Patrick Callahan had initially overstated the number saying that there were 700 officers with the novel coronavirus during a Saturday briefing but in a statement on Sunday the agency corrected the number.

“During a recent COVID-19 press conference, Col. Patrick Callahan overstated the Law Enforcement Statewide Positive cases,” read the statement.

It went on to add that while 163 cops tested positive, another 1,272 officers around the state were in quarantine and 1,435 were “out for other reasons.”
