Masks: the accessory of choice for insufferable scolds

After reusable grocery bags were deemed germ-infested canvas petri dishes, the insufferable scolds among us, desperate to signal their virtue, have turned to masks as their accessory of choice.

It isn’t about protecting others from their germs; that’s incidental.  What matters to them is masks signal to the world just how moral and virtuous you are.

It’s why they make a big deal out of President Trump not wearing a mask — despite the fact that he has repeatedly tested negative for the Wuhan virus so a mask is pointless. To the masked scolds, whether it’s necessary is irrelevant. But it does give them one more reason to view Trump as immoral.

These insufferable scolds have created a cottage industry out of posting videos and pictures on social media of those who aren’t wearing masks.  The more vicious among them directly confront non-mask-wearers in order to give them a piece of their mind.

And they are instilling in their children the same insufferable moral preening:

Japan Ends Coronavirus Emergency With 850 Deaths and No Lockdown

Via Jessica

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has announced the end of his state of emergency declaration for the novel coronavirus pandemic, with just 851 deaths reported and without ever implementing a lockdown.

"I have decided to end the state of emergency across the nation," Abe said during a televised press conference on Monday. "In just over a month and a half, we almost brought (the infection) situation under control."

Confederate Memorial Day - 05, 10, 1911 (My Grandfather & Mother)

Requiem Aeternam - Eternal Rest Grant unto Them

53rd North Carolina, Fort Mahone/ "Fort Damnation" Petersburg, Virginia

My great grandfather and great uncle knew all the men in the "Civil War Requiem" video as they were part of the 53rd NC which was the sole unit defending Fort Mahone. (Fort Mahone was named "Fort Damnation" by the Yankees) *Handpicked men of the 53rd (My great grandfather was one of these) made the final, night assault at Petersburg in an attempt to break Grant's line. This was against Fort Stedman which was a few miles to the slight northeast. They initially succeeded, but reinforcements drove them back. This video is made from photographs which were taken the day after the 53rd evacuated the lines the night before to begin the retreat to Appomattox. I have many more pictures taken by the same photographer, one of these shows a 14 year old boy and the other is the famous picture of the blond, handsome soldier with his musket.

"I say we cannot know your suffering, but this we do know; We love and honour you, veterans, and are justly proud of the heritage you have given us. Just so long as warm blood flows in the veins of man, so long will the words 'Confederate Veteran' cause that blood to tingle with glorious pride, and, if there be one among us, born in our glorious Southland who is not so thrilled, every drop of stagnant blood proclaims him bastard to the South-a coward to all the world."

Asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 Carriers Are Not Very Contagious

COVID-19 infection: the perspectives on immune responses | Cell ...

News from the NIH.
455 contacts who were exposed to the asymptomatic COVID-19 virus carrier became the subjects of our research. They were divided into three groups: 35 patients, 196 family members and 224 hospital staffs. We extracted their epidemiological information, clinical records, auxiliary examination results and therapeutic schedules.
The median contact time for patients was four days and that for family members was five days. Cardiovascular disease accounted for 25% among original diseases of patients. Apart from hospital staffs, both patients and family members were isolated medically. During the quarantine, seven patients plus one family member appeared new respiratory symptoms, where fever was the most common one. The blood counts in most contacts were within a normal range. All CT images showed no sign of COVID-19 infection. No severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections was detected in 455 contacts by nucleic acid test.
In summary, all the 455 contacts were excluded from SARS-CoV-2 infection and we conclude that the infectivity of some asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 carriers might be weak.
If someone doesn’t feel bad and exhibits no symptoms of disease, he can generally go about his business without harming others.  If you feel bad, you should stay home.
