Police officials say a shooting instructor died after he was accidentally shot in the head by a 9-year-old girl.
Mohave County Sheriff's officials tell us 39-year-old Charles Vacca, of Lake Havasu City, passed away Monday after being shot in the face at the Last Stop shooting outdoor range in White Hills Arizona.

ReplyDeleteI have no basis to know what the poor girls skill level was but I am a firm believer that untill you can master a revolver and a bolt action, the semi-auto is the next ball field over.

Yes. When there was a single shot at first, I thought it was a model with a selector switch. Don't know. If it wasn't, I guess she just happened to squeeze just right for the first shot and then held the trigger the next time or if it did have a selector switch, did the instructor adjust it after the first round?
DeleteI saw on the news(the video as it happened) that the instructor switched the gun to full auto, the kickback from the gun being shot on full auto made the gun go backwards and to the left, hitting the instructor in the face. Sorry for the guy, his family, and this kid, who probably will never pick up a gun again as she has to live with the guilt of killing the guy. It was a stupid accident that should have never happened. This is the kind of crap that makes for an anti gun/second amendment liberals wet dream.

ReplyDeleteI feel terrible for the instructor, but he dropped the ball on this.... (and now his family, and this very young girl must live with the consequence's of HIS actions for the rest of their lives)!!

Mass. when a doctor got a dealer to allow his son to shoot an Uzzie or something full auto at a gun show. It ran up on the kid and killed him... yes the kid.
I grew up on guns. My dad bought me my first one (of my own) at about age 10 or so and I didn't even ask for it. I was shooting his way before that.
NO WAY would I ever let a child run something full auto unless an adult was also holding on to it and I really can see the purpose of doing it then.
That poor little girl probably had on idea what she was in for and now she'll live the rest of her life with the guilt of thinking it was her fault the man died. If you think she won't feel the guilt you're wrong. My dad and his hired man were electrocuted by sticking an aluminum irrigation pipe in a power line. The hired man died on the spot.
My dad died 3 years later as a result. I feel guilty to this day about that and I wasn't even there. I was about to turn 13 and didn't want to go to vacation bible school but daddy thought I did and sent me on saying "go have a good time". I didn't argue with him. I never did. If I had been there the accident absolutely would not have happened because I'm very observant and he never was. He tended to put his head down and go at stuff like a bull. I'll go to my grave feeling the regret for going to
"have a good time that day" instead of helping out on the farm as I should have.
How can that girl not feel guilty when the gun was in her hand?

DeleteI too am sorry for the loss of your father. Last year I sold my 68 Chevy C-10 to a good friend. 3 months later he was killed under the truck while working on it due to a jack failure. My friend was 35 years old and left behind a wife a 12 year old son and a 3 week old son. I felt for months that if Id never sold him the truck he would still be alive. Your dads passing is not your fault. When its our time to go theres no stopping it. Hang in there and enjoy the good memories. Someday youll see your dad again.

DeleteHis wife still has the truck. Nobody knows what to do with it because of the stigma attached to it. His son has spoke of finnishing the truck but is unsure. Glad you have a 69. Post some pics and details sometime. We love vintage tin up here in Mid WI. Keep em on the road and out of the scrap yard. I cuurently have a 67 Chevelle with a tiny little 427 in front of a turbo 400.
