Every deer hunter can agree that mature bucks are just… different.
Every year deer hunters take to the woods attempting to harvest their buck of a lifetime. Fairly quickly, plan B usually takes hold and filling their tags becomes the primary goal by the end of the season.
Most hunters might get just one chance at seeing a mature buck as they are out hunting, but getting that buck within range of a firearm or bow is a different matter of chance altogether.
Here are 5 things you should know about mature bucks that might help swing the odds more in your favor this season.
# 6. They will try to kill you. Last year I was in our woods, sneaking up on one to take a picture. That buck has been around for a long time as I see him every year. He saw me and charged. I did NOT get the picture....

DeleteI bet! :)
Recently, we traversed to the wilds of north PA to see the (protected) wild elk in the area. (along with 9,000 other tourists).
ReplyDeleteIt amazes me how unperturbed these animals are by the humans traipsing around in their habitat and trying to get up close and personal to them. They stand around in yards, in fields, on roads while the stupid humans try to take their pictures, "pet" them... (this isn't directed at you, Chickenmom, I'm talking @ people not respecting their distance to wildlife) and last year a dead bull elk was found to have expired because someone was feeding it corn. ( that's a no-no for hoofed herbivores- besides one shouldn't feed wildlife, it makes them dependent).
It also amazes me that more humans aren't hurt. EIther by their own stupidity with car accidents (because they slam on the brakes in the middle of road as soon as they see an elk standing in a field) or because they get too close to a cow and her calf. Or a bull protecting his cows.
Of course, this is probably going to change, as we enter into the Agenda 21 phase of tyranny. The State Gamelands have already closed off trails to horseback-riders and 4-wheelers. And we were informed by the Game Commission that horses aren't allowed in October at all, anymore, (in the area we were in). It's only a matter of time til humans aren't allowed in the habitat at all. Not unless they are the King and his minions.

DeleteProbably.
