Federal HST .45 ACP 230gr P45HST2
Slow motion penetration
Y'all go for it, I'll stick with my 45's.

Based in a combination of factors, including so-called “stopping power,” weight and availability, the FBI study shows that the 9mm round penetrates far enough, allows for shooters to carry more rounds, and is more widely available and less expensive than alternative rounds like the .45 ACP or .40 Smith & Wesson.

Don't get me wrong. I like the 9mm, .44 Mag, and .45. My question is if the article is accurate, then why do most .gov agencies and other LEO carry .40 caliber?
ReplyDeleteThe study — which was concluded May 6 but has just been leaked online — the U.S. military is considering a new handgun to replace its decades-old Beretta M9 9mm pistol, and some law enforcement agencies are debating whether to outfit their officers with heavier rounds.
DeleteI'll guess a payoff.
Oh great, so now they're going to ditch all the .40 smith ammo the various non-enforcement Federal agencies just bought billions of rounds of, at the taxpayers expense, and buy up a shitload of 9mm. Wonderful! And you can bet that all that surplus aint going to be offered up to the public anytime soon. Guess we just have to take it from them.

DeleteThis is a debate that will never end. My father was an army combat vet from the south pacific theater. He had occasion to use the 45acp and said an enemy hit anywhere in the eye was going down. Its all about shot placement and bullet construction. Some years ago we had a domestic shooting here in which a very large woman was shot through each breast and in the stomach and legs with 230 grain ball 45 acp. She walked out of the house and got in the ambulance after being shot 5 times at point blank range. Lastly I had an employee that wears the scars of his youthful indiscretions. While stealing a chicago police cruiser he was shot 2 times through the left bicep. 2 times through left lung and 2 times through left stomach. The officer was shooting 9mm fmj through the back window from outside the cruiser. My employee was of average build at the time and said he never knew he was shot but apparently passed out in a few blocks. Shot placement and bullet construction. There is no magic caliber until you get into the 357 mag. But I am a fan of the 45acp also. Every case is differant.
ReplyDeleteThanks and good info. I do carry a .357, but have a .45 at arm's length most of the time.
DeleteMultiple threats = more shots fired. Pack animals travel & attack in packs.
ReplyDeleteGood point.
Back in the 70's I knew a cop who walked into a guy who had a Browning Hi-Power 9MM loaded with the then brand new Winchester 9MM HP. The guy put all 13 in the cops legs and pelvis. The cop was up and walking around 48 Hrs. later. The shooter didn't fare as well from a single .357 Mag 125gr. HP to the gut. He(the shooter) lived but spent weeks in the ICU and never fully recovered. The silly and I think somewhat paranoid argument that claim's magazine size to be a decider in gunfights is just wrong. The ONLY thing that counts in a gunfight is where you place a bullet in your opponent that packs the mass/ and or/ the velocity to stop the fight. I don't want the bad guy to pass out from blood loss in ten or twenty min. I want him to drop on the spot and STAY down.---Ray

DeleteAgreed.
I'll raise a glass to that! Cheers!
DeleteHere's to y'all! :)
DeleteI'll stick with my Firestar M45... :D
ReplyDeleteWasn't familiar with them . Thanks.
DeleteI recently bought a 9mm. I didn't want one. I wanted a .40 but I got a deal on the 9 I couldn't pass up so I decided to give it a try After shooting it a bit I've come to this conclusion. Based on the theory that a pistol is meant to provide suppressive fire until you can get to your rifle I'm happy with the 9mm. With the extended mags I've got 19 rounds. It's easy to get it back on target and it doesn't break your wrist to shoot it and it's a lot more affordable to shoot. .40 and .45 are probably better but for my use the 9mm is more than enough. CH
ReplyDeleteYep, to each his own.
DeleteOh I certainly wouldn't mind having a .40, 10mm, .357 or .45. I just think the 9mm will do what I want it to do for now.
DeleteShoot what you can thread a needle with. Id rather put 6 rounds of 357 mag in a charging bear than 1 poorley placed round and 4 misses from a 454 casull or 500 s&w. I taught a lady friend to put 10 rounds in a soda can at 15 feet from a 22 (rapid fire) but she cant put one 9mm in a pie plate at same distance.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteThe 9mm did not fair to good in Miami in 1983- that's why they went to the 10mm then the .40 S&W which was birthed out of reduced loads. These guys are idiots and know nothing about firearms.
ReplyDeleteGetting paid, off, I imagine.
DeleteAlways keep a rifle handy. Theres nothing like a 357 44 or 45 colt , or 30-30 lever carbine or an ar ak or mini 14. My 14 year old daughter is downright nasty on bowling pins at 50 yards with her marlin 357 lever. She could handle a group of zombies no prob. And in a gunfight Id rather have a carbine than a pistol.

DeleteGood job!
