There’s been some mysterious activity in the skies over Mendocino County lately. Folks who live there want to know: Who are the armed men dropping out of helicopters to chop down their marijuana grows?

They dress in combat camouflage, some of them hide their faces. This summer, a group of men in Mendocino County loaded into helicopters and flew missions to eradicate marijuana. They’re not police officers. They work for a security company called Lear Asset Management.

According to their promotional poster, the group works with law enforcement .That’s why Susan Schindler suspected the posse, when her medical marijuana garden was hit last month.

  1. Does that mean you can shoot them as trespassers with out incurring the wrath of cops? If they ain't sworn losesifers I don't see how it is legal for what is basically a merc unit.

You would think so. My father's farms and all the others around had signs which stated Trespassers Will Be Shot On Sight when I was growing up. Of course The Tom Frost Diner in Warrenton had Due To Our Facilities We Are Unable To Serve Colored Patrons.

    2. I've eaten in the Frost Diner. One of the greatest culinary disappointments of my life! That was back in the days before the 4 lane bypass when there was a 10 mile long traffic jam though the main streets of Warrenton every day. Ate at Ben and Mary's once too. Better but not much. I actually kind of enjoyed Ben and Mary's but the food that night wasn't wonderful. CH

News to me as I never experienced such. :) Frost Diner was/is OK, but we liked the one right up the road from there for our 2/3PM nourishment. Can't remember the name right now, though. Ben and Mary's excelled and still does, as far as I know, at steaks. Thanks.

    4. Brock Ben and Mary's is closed down. It changed over to some sort of seafood house or sandwich shop or something a couple of years ago with a name that implied two female owners. That lasted a year or so and the last time I went by there the sign said closed. Yeah I liked the atmosphere at Ben and Mary's. The one time we ate there we had T-bone steaks. They were cooked just fine but the piece of meat tasted like it came from an old dairy cow that had been sent to slaughter. Not the restaurants fault.
The service was good and the folks friendly. I wish I could have eaten there more often but the time of day that we pass through there coming and going just doesn't match up with stopping for a meal.

Back in the mid 80's folks had discovered the short cut from Fredericksburg to Winchester and on up I-81, avoiding DC and Philly
but the stretch through Warrenton was 2 lane. On weekends the traffic backed up all the way through by the Frost and then down the main drag
all the way out to the stop light where the bypass cuts off now. I've spent
half an hour or more on many occasions trying to get through Warrenton.
The one time I ate in the Frost they had just been swamped with business. It was a holiday weekend and their picture and story got published in some coffee table book about diners. We had the misfortune of going in late just after that rush.

My favorite business in that area now is Clark Brothers and a new lawn and garden shop right down the road from it back toward town! CH

Didn't know that, the fifties and early sixties were my heyday there and I believe I only went back twice in the 80's, '86 and '90 for my parent's funerals.

That's where I bought my .45 derringer to fly back to Vietnam in 1969. :)

This should interest you. An example of why I never read fiction as real life is mind boggling.:)

  2. No Constitutional protections exist when the "government" decides to hire "contractors" (or even Hessian mercenaries) to violate your rights.

  3. Since it is legal, what's their problem. Or maybe their not legal - mercenaries?
Or perhaps they are just common thieves. One could place electrified nets
    over their garden patch.
