Crosswind turboprop torment

  1. A few years ago my wife was in England touring with an old high school friend.
Their flight home got delayed 5 hours on the day that a hurricane was approaching our area. While she was over the Atlantic I was watching Flight Tracker and saw that
she had missed her flight home from Charlotte to New Bern. I started to start driving for Charlotte but as I passed the airport in New Bern I pulled in and talked to the folks at the US Air counter. There was one flight left coming from Charlotte to New Bern
and it had two seats left on it. As it turned out one of those seats went to another pilot to fly the plane back out of harms way so she got the last seat. I was able to get her on her cell phone when she was on the ground in Charlotte and told her she had a seat on that flight. She managed to get there in time and got on the plane. It was a US Air (Piedmont) turbo prop similar to the ones in that video. CH

Meanwhile, back in New Bern I had found a place to park where I could see the runway. We were well into tropical storm force winds and driving rain with strong
gusts on top of the already hard wind when they landed. The pilot made a picture
perfect landing in spite of the buffeting the plane was getting. She told me that when
the plane set down and rolled out everyone on the plane stood and cheered the pilot.

  2. Nice recovery and go around on the first one. Woulda used a a little more port side-slip on the last one and and then level and crab with the flare.
