Speaking at the American Spectator Gala in Washington D.C. last night, Sen. Rand Paul delighted the crowd with a strong anti-government speech.
He began with a defense of the government shutdown in 2013, pointing out that many Americans in “fly-over country” didn’t really care, and only a third of government was shut down at the time.
Paul blamed Obama for shutting down national parks and national monuments to raise public concern, praising World War II veterans for ignoring the barriers placed in front of their monument in Washington D.C.
“I tell people who don’t understand America, don’t understand that we need to shut the damn thing down, I tell people the image you need to remember is when the World War II veterans got off their bus, took their wire cutters, cut the barricades, and threw them on the lawn,” he said.

To call it a "government shutdown" is a mis-statement. Our congress critters still got paid. What really happened was many people got an unplanned paid vacation. Yes, it was stressful for some, What was lost to many, especially our congress critters and their supports was, if in the running of every day operations, certain agencies and departments were not needed or missed, then why do we still have them. Just maybe the ONLY things Federal are those that are truely essential.
ReplyDeleteMy first step as king :) would be to initially cut the government in half. Those who want to do twice the work get to stay. (Although twice the work for some still isn't too much. Kinda' like fishing, 10% of civil servants do 90% of the work. Been there, done that.)
DeleteWith Obama, if his lips are moving, he's lying. It is refreshing to hear Rand Paul speak so honestly. Maybe people will re-think the rush-to-communism that the Democrats and RINOs have been have been leading our nation on lately and elect a real patriot.

DeletePrecisely.
All Hail King Brock. ;) your much more benevolent than I would be. I would have most of the govt employees shoveling manure for a living. As far as a shut down I think we could save a lot of money just paying based on performance.
ReplyDeleteWell I did say initially :) and performance would work if their boss isn't a liar like most of the rest of the government.
