Wisconsin Governor and GOP presidential hopeful Scott Walker never graduated from college, and according to such critics as Howard Dean, his insufficient education renders him ineligible for the office of the presidency.
I have multiple degrees, including a doctorate degree. For the last 16 years, I have taught philosophy at an array of colleges and universities from Texas to New Jersey: four-year and two-year, research-oriented and teaching-oriented, public and private, big and small.
Consequently I can assure you, the mere possession of a college degree most definitely does not certify that its holder is “educated.”

I think Howard Dean is among those that are obviously educated far beyond their intelligence.
ReplyDeleteYou got that right. :)

ReplyDeleteAin't that the truth!!!
I have seen this in action at work before I retired. Many a recent.college educated engineer or administrator couldn't put a coherent sentence together to save their lives let alone spell words right (didn't even have the sense to use spell check) or get syntax correct. They couldn't see the difference between words like two, to, and too or bear and bare.
When my boss needed an important report done, he came to his field supervisor with
a 1968 high school diploma (I got straight D's in English and Grammar) and two years of junior college. That Viet Nam thing got in the way of completing my degree, but I still did a lot of reading of classic literature and other things and learned to use the language that way.
I have witnessed many a highly educated person who is what I call book smart and street stupid, that didn't have a lick of common sense or the ability to analyze things.

ReplyDeleteComment mirrors the intent/goal of common core. That (indoctrination) higher ed is necessary for anything and the state will eventually tell you who will and who won't be receiving "higher ed".
Mike Rowe has a good article about how education doesn't in any way reflect work ethic. Used to be employment in some fields was hands on by apprentice, or some boss taking a shine to a person and giving them a chance to learn on the job - as this type of training costs the employer more in time and productivity, but can have benefits in teaching a new person in his (the boss's) way of doing things.
Higher ed with it's courses in sexual deviancy, white driveler and anti-rape seminars is just a way to get youth indebted and enslaved for life to the Machine of the State.
