Matrimony, Holy or Otherwise

 photo Marriage_Facts.jpg

If you are a young man, and contemplate matrimony with the love of your life, it is well to look at marriage from the standpoint of reason rather than sentiment. Men are, after all, male, and occasionally capable of reason. The first question to ask yourself is: Why marry? What would you gain? Would your troubles disappear? Would sex be better? Would food be more savory? Would you get tax breaks, enjoy more freedom? Do stock options come with marriage?

Is there any practical advantage at all?

  1. It's about morality, or has that been extinguished by depictions on the tube one
of the true sources of immorality. The hippie generation didn't help much
either, 'love the one your with' mentality. I worked with a hippie from days of old
whom she and her boyfriend moved to Mars Hill, NC, had eleven kids, lived in a shack
with an outhouse and then one day, the boyfriend just walked off. Stability, indeed.

  2. Fred's column is so sad. I understand where he is coming from, but I for one don't want to give up like he apparently has. I was getting my hair cut the other day and was listening to the young women talking about their husbands. One of them was upset about the troubles with her car and how it was in the shop, blah blah blah. Then she said that she had to ask her husband to go get the car for her and to pick up some lunch for her on his lunch break, which he wasn't happy about. He showed up, handed her the keys, then disappeared for a few minutes and came back with her lunch that he got for her, with not a word spoken between them. She didn't even get out of the chair to thank him, just threw the words to him. He looked very stressed, so I blurted out with a big smile, "We think you are wonderful for what you did today." He looked at me, then he looked at his wife and the other young woman, and they both joined in, too, saying how nice he was to do all that for her. He didn't say word, but his face broke out in a big smile as he took off to whatever he needed to do.

What I am saying is that adult men and adult women need to encourage these young people. I haven't heard about this organization, but it sure sounds like they are doing good things:

    1. Thanks for the link and story. Good job, but bet the "ladies" secretly wanted to kill you though. :)

  3. You know, I think they were genuinely surprised - I was glad they jumped on board saying nice things. I would rather spread Love than Anger, or worse...

  4. I found this quote somewhere on the Web.

When that frog hops across the lawn, up to your lawn chair, saying "Kiss me, I'll turn into a beautiful Princess." Your proper response is, "Oh no, I'd rather have a talking frog!"
