For the past several years, the miners from the Galice Mining District, about 30 minutes west of Grants Pass, Oregon, have been arguing over who has the rights to the minerals in the ground around Galice Creek. The Galice mining district is compiled of a number of claims, owners and miners and has been in continuous operation since the early 1870’s, which makes it one of the longest running operations in the US. This specific operation predates the BLM bureaucracy by many decades in fact.
The area in question has produced in excess of 10 million ounces of gold since its conception, and geologists estimate that only 10% of the gold in the ground has been removed, which makes this area highly sought after by any standard. It is said that children find gold with their hands in the creeks to this day.
BLM has made several attempts to disband the operation through violations that claim improper paperwork filing, ruling changes over time, and other unsubstantiated claims.

BLM: 'Oh you have minerals on your land?'
ReplyDeleteMiners: 'Yup. Been mining here 76 years before your bubble gum agency even exited'
BLM: 'Yeah...about that... we're going to need to....you to leave your land...because. Gold.
Miners: 'Mmm, nope'
BLM: 'Well....*grabs gas can*... it's up to you...'
Miners: '*cocks many guns* A-yup. Sure is...'
I'll be watching this with great interest.
BLM needs to be wholly disbanded immediately. They server no function that the Forestry service couldn't manage...regulating cow grazing was never an intended purpose...

DeleteAmen.
Yes, I too am very interested in following this story. Please try and keep us updated as event unfold.
ReplyDeleteHoping the outcome is the same as we witnessed at Bundy Ranch.
Yes, indeed.
DeleteAnd EPA was harassing miners in Alaska. Seems panning water/ dirt back into its own source is "pollution". I wonder if they succeeded in shutting them down
ReplyDeleteChicken, alaska i believe.
I hadn't heard about that. Thanks.
Deleteyes, Chicken Alaska (and side note, how stoned were they to pick *that* name, lol)

It wasn't simple panning though that brought the EPA, it was the open pit copper mine that was being proposed to be built.
EPA was trying to protect the salmon...with body armor and automatic weapons (reportedly)

DeleteHa! :) Thanks.
Mining is one of the most regulated industries anywhere.
Deleteand you'd think MSHA would be salivating over the chance to harass more miners. Since they've effectively killed coal mining. What few operators there are tell me how bad it is; not surprising how many have shut down.
Infuriating.
DeleteWe're being over-regulated to ...armed response?
ReplyDeleteThey keep pushing.
We were in state gamelands this weekend and my young daughter asked me if they count the leaves and pinecones.

DeleteSeems so.
================
We were in state gamelands this weekend and my young daughter asked me if they count the leaves and pinecones.
Ha! :)
As I see the matter, it is a given that this is all political, with some back room deal made at the BLM, to find a cover to steal the land, in order to give it some one else.
ReplyDeleteAnd, it a question of who soon and not of if/when that some fed.gov agency will push a guy, who thinks he has nothing left to lose and is mad as hell and will not take it any more. Yes, he is going to die, but, he will take with him as many as he can. I pray that TPTB will reconsider and stop viewing the average citizen as the enemy. Sure they have all that uber tactical cool military gear and weapons, BUT, know this, some that stuff WILL wind in the hands of the harrased and po'd guy.
Absolutely, what's good for the goose is good for the gander.
DeleteLooks like the stand-off is over, for now. BLM is illegal.

Thanks, but since there is no link and searching reveals nothing more, I would wait and see what transpires.
DeleteFirstly, until this report was released by Anthony Barson from LFA III% in Washingto state. All of the previous information regarding this situation I read was released by Joseph Rice, the point of contact for oathkeepers of Josephine county Oregon (oathkeepersjoco), 541-326-1911.
DeleteAt this time, I have not found any response from oathkeepersjoco verifying the report made by Barson from Washington state.
Riddle me this, who authorized an individual from Washington state to speak for and respond to information released by a Patriot organization in Oregon? Moreover, who approved Barson's intel report to be run with as the 'Gospel' regarding the situation.
This story makes no sense and is full of holes.
Moreover, nothing at the Josphine county, Oregon website has
Deleteno mention of anything said by the newly minted spokesperson
from Washington state, Anthony Bosworth.

Yes, no link and no other hits.
DeleteSorry to keep beating the proverbial "dead horse."

Not at all and thanks.
DeleteI still have not found (or read) answers to
ReplyDeletethese questions:
Firstly, who authorized an individual from Washington state to speak for and respond to information released by a Patriot organization in Oregon?
Secondly, Bosworth is not a member of oathkeepers, Josephine county Oregon. The question remains, who authorized him to make this statement (regarding oathkeepersjoco) for organization he is not a part of: "Oath Keepers on site will be given new marching orders."
My questions and comments regarding this 'swiss cheese' report to mikey at SSI, where I first found this 'report' posted (well in advance of seeing it anywhere else throughout the NET), go unanswered and censored via his refusal to post any comments regarding this posting on his site.
He has since posted about a dozen different postings since dropping this gem two days ago, and each of them have comments.
I find it to be more likely that I can fly like Superman, than for it to be possible that no one submitted comments in response to this at SSI.
Lastly, and again, who authorized Bosworth (not a member of oathkeepers, Josephine county, Oregon) to speak for and make this statement "Oath Keepers on site will be given new marching orders."
My reservations regarding stewie and the oathkeepers organization at the national level, not withstanding, does not change the validity of my question regarding Bosworth and his "report."
At the moment, Bosworth's 'report' has not been echoed at the OK's (or their websites) at the county or national level. Both websites are still actively organizing to bear witness and provide security for the miners and their property.
refusal to post any comments regarding this posting on his site.
DeleteI noticed that yesterday, but remember he's always right................
Agreed, but honestly I am more interested in
ReplyDeletewho authorized Bosworth to dictate on behalf
of another organization: "Oath Keepers on site will be given new marching orders."
:) Yes and I guess there is more than meets the eye on this.
